This is honestly a big one. When counting writers it should be UNIQUE writers. And when you do that it shouldn’t be one person writing 5 characters and contributing 30 of the 70 posts posted. That doesn’t scream activity especially when the other writers have only 1-3 posts in said thread.

but this would be a non starter from my perspective purely based on the points others have raised.
When we judge applications for Major Factions the only criteria that you need to apply with is located here - That does not guarantee entry. We look at it very carefully from every angle...Have the interested parties listed posted in the faction? Have there been reports or significant behavioral issues from the staff team in the past?
That's not even the half of it.

Second, while I respectfully disagree you’ve all raised some very good points, and I do appreciate that things have been clarified, thank you for doing that! I have a much better understanding of the whole process and will be striving to be in a place where I can eventually apply for major with confidence
Third, just want to reiterate that again I’m not part of Farworlds, I just think they’re really neat
Seriously though, thank you all for giving me a better understanding of what I need to do on my end, and for keeping things civil. I know this is a hit button topic, so it’s nice to see we can discuss things in a constructive manner. Cheers!

I think this thread just reads more that you wanted clarification on the major faction decision process. Clarity is nice but it’s probably hard to be 100% transparent because there are so many different issues etc.
I like the simplicity of major and minor only.

As someone who has been party to getting three factions successfully to major status in the past few years (Dark Empire, The Foundation, and The High Republic—I have been an admin for all three), I can tell you that one thing that was a huge driver of activity that each of those three had in common was writing with other factions in the pre-Major period.
Now, I'm aware that isn't part of the requirements, but look at almost any faction that's gotten to Major in recent years (outside of those that attained Major with the relaxed requirements during the Planeshift event, in May 2025—that is, BSS, ME, and TIC) and the vast majority will have some significant activity involving writing, usually, with an existing Major Faction.
If they haven't been writing with another faction, then they've likely pushed a ton of activity regardless; note that the last faction to achieve Major status on their own was I think the Tingel Arm Coalition a little over two years ago... but that fact may very well mean nothing.
That's my $0.02

When it comes to RP threads all we look at is the quality and quantity of the faction RP, in whatever form it takes.
I just wanted to clarify that in case anyone was working under a misconstruction of the facts.

And i'm sorry if my post came across implying otherwise. Of course it's not required. I've reviewed the site rules so many times I've lost track, as a perpetual faction admin... I know, John! And hey, I'm one of those nerds that
Really, the only places talking at all to another faction seems to be in any way necessary is with Junctions (goes without saying, you have to talk to each other to set that up), Diplomacy threads (again, you can't just do trade or annex diplomacy threads without a teensy bit of collab), and after dropping an invasion or annihilation notice (if allowing allies, you have to talk to each other and come to an agreement)... but invading someone without prior discussion before dropping the invasion notice is understood as poor form in the community, anyway. Communicating with your duel partner, if you're duelling in an invasion, is also pretty key to a good duel, and not communicating often just leads to problems.
But far as I can see, a faction doesn't even have to do any of those things as a faction if they don't want to. Nothing in the rules requires it. A faction can conceivably get by on Dominions, Populates, and Faction threads, if playing with their own group of people is fulfilling enough for them!
If that's what makes them happy, then simple as! I can't besmirch another's happiness if it's not harming anyone.
