PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Mia Monroe has a lean, athletic build shaped by years of training and active service. Her dark brown hair is cut into a short, slightly tousled bob that frames a face defined by high cheekbones, a strong jawline, and vivid blue eyes. Fair-skinned and sharp-featured, she carries herself with a quiet confidence that is difficult to ignore.
She is almost always seen wearing her distinctive black and gold Mandalorian armour, a polished set of beskar plates that has become synonymous with her reputation. Away from duty, which is a rarity in itself, Mia favours practical, comfortable clothing in dark colours, choosing utility and ease of movement over fashion while maintaining the same composed, disciplined appearance.
PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS
Mia is a woman shaped by duty, loss, and years spent carrying responsibilities that were never meant to rest on one person's shoulders. She is disciplined to the point of habit, rarely acting without purpose and almost never allowing her emotions to dictate her decisions. To those who know her only by reputation, she can seem distant, intimidating, even cold. In truth, Mia simply learned long ago that leadership often requires sacrifice, and that showing uncertainty can place others at risk. She carries herself with quiet confidence rather than bravado, preferring competence over recognition and results over praise.
Beneath the armour, however, is a fiercely loyal and deeply protective individual. Family, clan, and those she considers her people are the centre of her world, and there are few lengths she would not go to in order to keep them safe. While she possesses a dry sense of humour and occasional flashes of warmth, those moments are usually reserved for trusted friends and loved ones. Mia is not quick to trust, but once that trust is earned it becomes nearly unbreakable. She values honesty, self-reliance, and perseverance above all else, and has little patience for arrogance or empty promises. Though the weight of command often leaves her carrying burdens alone, she remains driven by a genuine desire to build something better for the generations that will follow, even if she never receives credit for it.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
▲ Leadeship: Mia leads through example rather than speeches or charm. Her people trust her because she consistently puts herself in the same danger she asks others to face and never shirks responsibility when things go wrong.
▲ Protective Loyalty: Nothing motivates Mia more than protecting those she considers family, clan, or kin. Once someone earns a place in her circle, she becomes fiercely devoted to their wellbeing.
▲ Mental Resilience: Years of loss, warfare, and hardship have forged an exceptional level of emotional endurance. She can absorb setbacks that would break many people and continue moving forward when others would falter.
▲ Combat Mastery: Mia is a highly experienced warrior whose effectiveness comes from discipline, adaptability, and practical skill. She is equally comfortable leading a battlefield engagement or handling a threat personally.
▼ Emotionally Guarded: Mia keeps her deepest fears, grief, and vulnerabilities locked behind carefully maintained walls. Even those closest to her often struggle to know what she is truly feeling.
▼ Overprotective: Her instinct to shield loved ones can become controlling without her realizing it. She often carries burdens that should be shared because she believes it is her responsibility to bear them alone.
▼ Stubbornness: Once Mia commits to a course of action, changing her mind is extremely difficult. She trusts her judgement and experience, sometimes to the point of overlooking alternative perspectives.
▼ Self-Sacrificing Nature: Mia routinely places duty and the needs of others above her own wellbeing. Given the choice, she will endure exhaustion, pain, or personal loss rather than risk someone else paying the price.
▼ Uncontrolled Response to Mental Attacks: Attempts to influence, manipulate, or invade Mia's mind provoke an unusually aggressive response. Rather than calmly resisting, she reacts as though personally attacked, often escalating conflicts unnecessarily.
HISTORY
The Life Before
Mia Monroe was born on Corellia, though little of her early life was spent connected to the world of her birth. Orphaned at a young age, she was taken in by the Mandalorian mercenary Jaxx, who became both her guardian and her teacher. Rather than being raised within a traditional home, Mia grew up aboard his ship, learning to survive among the stars. From childhood, she was taught piloting, combat, survival, and the traditions of Mandalorian culture, developing the independence and adaptability that would define much of her life.
After inheriting Jaxx’s ship, the Wayward Angel, Mia spent years travelling the galaxy as a smuggler, courier, treasure hunter, and mercenary. She lived outside the formal structures of Mandalorian society, relying on her own skills and instincts to survive. Over time, she built a reputation as an exceptional pilot and capable independent operator, though her actions increasingly brought her into contact with the wider struggles affecting Mandalore and the galaxy as a whole.
As conflicts with the Sith and other threats escalated, Mia became increasingly involved in Mandalorian military operations. Her experience outside traditional military structures gave her a unique perspective, and her abilities as both a fighter and strategist saw her rise quickly through the ranks. She distinguished herself during anti-Sith campaigns, eventually achieving the rank of Field Marshal and becoming one of Mandalore’s most capable military leaders.
It was during this period that Mia met Rel Connory. Their relationship developed during one of the most demanding periods of her life, and Rel became one of the few people Mia trusted enough to see beyond the soldier and commander she presented to the rest of the galaxy.
The Rise and Fall of the Liberator
Following a period of political instability within Mandalore, Mia took up the mantle of Mand’alor. She became known as Mand’alor the Liberator, a title earned through her efforts to reunite fractured clans, strengthen Mandalorian forces, and rebuild a society weakened by years of conflict. Her leadership focused heavily on reform, preparation, and ensuring that Mandalore could survive the challenges ahead.
However, the greatest challenge of Mia’s leadership came not from an external enemy, but from the legacy of Velok.
During the conflict surrounding the destruction of Velok on Yaga Minor, Mia received a hidden contingency left behind by the Dark Side Master. When Velok died, his memories and knowledge were transferred into her. At the time, Mia was already Force-sensitive, but her abilities had largely been developed through personal experience rather than formal training. The sudden addition of Velok’s accumulated knowledge fundamentally changed her understanding of the Force.
Mia found herself struggling to separate her own thoughts and instincts from the memories and influence of someone else. The knowledge of a Dark Side Master gave her abilities she had never possessed before, but it also left her questioning whether she was still fully in control of herself. The fear that she could become something dangerous became a constant presence in her life.
Rel remained one of the few people Mia could confide in during this period. He became a stabilising influence while she struggled with the consequences of carrying Velok’s legacy, offering her support when she was increasingly uncertain of her own judgement. Despite the trust between them, Mia eventually reached the conclusion that remaining Mand’alor while questioning her own stability placed Mandalore at unnecessary risk.
Rather than allow fear and uncertainty to affect her people, Mia chose to abdicate the title voluntarily. Rel helped her step away from leadership, leaving behind the position she had spent so long trying to protect.
On the Edge
Mia’s withdrawal from Mandalore was not a simple retirement. Rumours surrounding Velok’s possible return caused her to distance herself further from her people, fearing that her presence itself could become a danger. During this time, she encountered Jorus Merrill and joined the then-Rebel Alliance, operating on the edges of the galaxy as a mercenary while searching for purpose outside of Mandalorian politics.
When Velok was finally defeated and his soul sealed away, Mia believed she could safely return to Mandalore. However, the years away had changed her. The experiences she had endured left her increasingly focused on eliminating threats before they could reach her people, and her hunting of Sith became more obsessive than strategic.
This eventually led to her capture by Nemene Taltih. During her torture, Mia lost her hand and one of her eyes, and she was poisoned with devaronian blood, leaving her with injuries and pain that would continue to affect her for years afterwards. The experience changed not only Mia but also those closest to her. Rel was deeply affected by what happened to her, eventually leading to a suicide attempt and becoming the first major fracture in their relationship.
The Cost of War
Seeking a way to give Mandalorians a better chance against Force users, Mia turned her attention toward technology and weapons development. At Miri Farms, she began creating new methods of combating Sith threats, combining the knowledge gained from Velok with her own experiences fighting against the Force. Her goal was not simply to defeat enemies, but to ensure that ordinary Mandalorians were not helpless against them.
When the One Sith rose in power, Mia once again returned to the front lines. During the assault on Coruscant, she found herself at the centre of the conflict alongside her brother Ordo. When Ordo became possessed by the Dark Lord of the One Sith, Mia attempted to reach him and save him.
However, grief and desperation clouded her judgement. Driven by the need to rescue her brother, she fought recklessly and failed to notice the danger around her. She was struck by an amphistaff and killed during the battle.
Resurrection
For Mia, even death did not bring an end to her struggles.
Through unnatural circumstances, she returned to life by taking possession of a clone body within a facility owned by Jared Ovmar. Awaking in a galaxy that had continued without her, Mia immediately searched for Rel, only to discover that he had disappeared. With little else to hold onto, she returned to Miri Farms and once again immersed herself in the war effort.
When news eventually reached her that Rel had resurfaced, their reunion was intense, but it quickly became clear that neither of them was the same person they had once been. The bond between them remained, but too much had changed. Their relationship ended not because the care between them had disappeared, but because the lives they had lived had taken them in different directions.
In the years that followed, Mia continued to struggle with the weight of her past. The memories of Velok, the trauma of her torture, and the experience of her own death all began to affect her ability to find stability. When Ra Vizsla became Mand’alor, he appointed Mia as one of his Cuir Rekr, naming her Katlaydr and placing her in charge of United Clans technology and weapons development.
The structure and responsibility helped keep Mia focused, but when the Republic collapsed, Ra disappeared, and power shifted to the council, the uncertainty surrounding Mandalore once again and the combination of her trauma’s began to break her.
The Burning of Mandalore
By this point, Mia had spent years carrying the weight of decisions that had cost her everything. The memories of Velok, the trauma of her torture, her death and unnatural return, and the repeated loss of those closest to her had begun to erode her ability to see a path forward. She had spent her entire life trying to protect Mandalore, but over time that responsibility became something she could no longer separate from herself.
When Ra Vizsla disappeared and Mandalore once again fell into uncertainty, Mia became increasingly convinced that her people were trapped in a cycle of stagnation and self-destruction. She believed that if nothing changed, another enemy would eventually bring about Mandalore’s extinction. However, the years of trauma and isolation had altered her judgement, and the line between saving her people and forcing them into survival had begun to disappear.
In her unstable state, Mia came to believe that only a crisis large enough to break Mandalore from its old ways could allow it to rebuild. She convinced Ijaat that the only way forward was to force her people into change before they destroyed themselves. Together, they carried out a plan to drive a nuclear weapon into Mandalore’s core through a volcanic passage.
The result was catastrophic. Earthquakes tore across the planet, tectonic plates shifted, volcanoes erupted, oceans surged, and Mandalore’s environment collapsed. The world Mia had spent her life trying to protect was permanently changed by her own hand.
In the aftermath, Mia disappeared. Ijaat confessed his role in the disaster and ultimately died for his actions, while Mia was left to face the consequences alone. The Burning of Mandalore became the defining example of the danger Mia had always feared: that in trying to protect her people from destruction, she could become the source of it herself.
The Civil War
For years, Mia lived away from Mandalore, hunted by survivors and carrying the consequences of what she had done. The event became one of the greatest sources of guilt in her life, forcing her to confront the possibility that her desire to protect her people had sometimes led her to choices that caused the very harm she wanted to prevent.
When news reached her ears of Ra Vizsla's return, suspicion drew her out of the shadows, discovering his views on Force-sensitive Mandalorians had shifted from suspicion to outright hostility as a result of her actions.. As his policies moved toward eradication through death or a so-called “cure”. Mia returned to public life and once again took up the mantle of Liberator refusing to let her people suffer for what she had done.
The conflict became one of the most destructive internal struggles in Mandalorian history. Mia led the forces opposing Ra Vizsla, but ultimately she was defeated and killed.
A New Life
Decades after her death, Mandalore had suffered another devastating conflict with the Sith, leaving much of its population destroyed. Friends, family, and those she had fought beside were gone or missing. Ijaat, resurrected by Ashin Varanin, made a bargain that ultimately resulted in Mia being pulled from the Netherworld and placed into a new body. The galaxy and people she had known had gone.
With Mandalore needing stability and direction, Ijaat convinced Mia that abandoning their people was no longer an option. Reluctantly, she agreed to help rebuild. When Ijaat became Mand’alor the Rekindler, Mia served as his right hand and helped establish the Mandalorian Protectors.
During this era, Mia began forming new connections while attempting to rebuild the family she had lost throughout her life. She encountered Malum, a Sith whose goals eventually aligned with her own search for a way to defeat Carnifex. Their relationship remained complicated and secret, but Mia eventually came to see him as someone worth protecting.
She met Liorra and saw within her echoes of her grandmother Sobhan Kerrigan, a person Mia had once considered a close friend. Mia took Liorra under her wing as a mentor, hoping to guide her while avoiding the mistakes that had shaped her own past. She also met Elise, becoming her mentor before eventually adopting her.
For a time, Mia found something close to the family she had spent so long trying to rebuild. Her relationship with Ijaat grew into something more personal, and she became deeply invested in protecting those around her.
History Repeated
However, Mia’s greatest strength remained one of her greatest weaknesses: her instinct to protect others, even when that protection came at the cost of trust.
When Ijaat disappeared without explanation, the foundation of the Protectors began to weaken and Mia found herself pushed toward leadership once again, despite refusing to take the mantle of Mand’alor. Her relationship with Elise fractured when Mia attempted to protect her from her connection with Malum, struggling to accept that Elise had the right to make her own choices. Elise eventually left, becoming one of Mia’s deepest emotional wounds and forcing her to confront the possibility that protecting someone too fiercely could become another way of pushing them away.
Her relationship with Liorra suffered a similar fracture when Liorra discovered Mia’s connection with Malum. Their argument challenged Mia’s beliefs and forced her to confront the contradictions in her own actions. Rather than responding as the mentor Liorra expected, Mia reacted from a place of hurt and anger, and their relationship deteriorated.
Without strong central leadership, the Mandalorian Protectors eventually fractured. Conflicting visions for Mandalore caused old divisions between clans to resurface, and the organisation eventually dissolved back into independent groups. Mia withdrew once again, focusing on her own clan and attempting to recover from yet another series of losses.
A New Empire
When Aether Verd rose as Mand'alor the Iron, Mia Monroe approached him with caution. After witnessing the collapse of previous attempts to unite Mandalore, she was unwilling to place her faith in another promise of rebuilding without understanding the foundation beneath it. She sought to understand Aether's vision for Mandalore and, more importantly, whether his Empire was designed to endure beyond the strength or influence of any single individual.
Ultimately, Mia chose to stand beside him, not because she believed in another idealistic vision of restoration, but because she believed Aether was building something with the potential to survive its founders. His focus on stability, structure, and a future beyond individual leaders represented something Mia had rarely seen in Mandalorian movements before: the possibility of a legacy rather than simply another era of conflict.
Aether appointed Mia as Warmaster and his Second-in-Command, placing her at the forefront of the Mandalorian Empire's military efforts. In this role, she serves not only as a commander but as a trusted advisor, bringing with her the experience of someone who has witnessed the consequences of fractured leadership and endless cycles of war. Mia remains committed to ensuring Mandalore possesses the strength, unity, and stability it has so often lacked, while also serving as a reminder of the cost that comes with pursuing those ideals.
Her position within the Empire has placed her alongside warriors and leaders who know her primarily through reputation: as a soldier, a commander, and a symbol of survival. However, somewhere along the line she has formed a connection with Itzhal Volkihar that challenges that perception. Unlike many who see only the armour, the title, or the legacy surrounding her, Itzhal sees Mia as the person beneath it all. In turn, Mia herself looks beyond his own reputation and recognises the individual beneath the warrior.
Their relationship is developing gradually, becoming something separate from the obligations that had defined so much of Mia's life. Each of them cautious and fearful of the possibility of losing that which they could come to love.
Despite the stability she has found within the Empire, Mia continues to confront the personal consequences of the years she spent consumed by war and duty. She has begun attempting to rebuild fractured relationships with those closest to her, particularly Liorra and Tessa. These connections remain complicated, shaped by past choices, distance, and the weight of everything Mia has endured, but she has come to understand that rebuilding Mandalore is not the only thing worth fighting for. For the first time in years, she is making an effort to repair the bonds she once allowed herself to sacrifice in pursuit of protecting others.
