We Are the Children of the Sun [Open to Dawnguard]

"Théo, get Boo back on the ship", she whispered to her son as Thurion confronted this Velkar. It would be the best and safest place for her grandson in the circumstances, the battle would not take part in the air, they did not have enough ships for that and although the Tarly had guns, they might come in handy later, the ace up their sleeve so to speak. If at all, this was all unknown to them, and the might and power of these beings was all down to conjecture.

The time had approached, all too soon. Thurion was not the only one battle weary and she drew in a deep sigh at the thought of killing once more, but this was their lot in life, to defend and protect those that can't do so for themselves and the mighty Midvinter needed them all once more. Coci moved toward Cloudancer, spoke softly into her mind instilling a need to leave and go home to her cubs, but Coci knew the majestic gryphon would want to stay with her mate, but it was too important for her to go, even if they all fail today, at least the hope that something wonderful in this world would survive.

She gave the great gryphon as kiss on the forehead just as Thurion moved up next to her, and she smiled at his words, "And here was me thinking I had the temper", she knows her husband better than anyone and it takes a lot to unsettle him but when he does, he is fearsome. "You are not Jedi Master here today, you are Lord Heavenshield and defender of Midvinter .. you always have been", she spoke as softly as he, and he has always been longer before his brother had returned. Today was the day in which the Heavenshield, all of them, would removed their 'Jedi robes' and become Valkyri.

And it was clear to her his Valkyr blood was up, that frightening stirring within the man and her son that simply cannot be denied, the call of battle pulls at them both from a long and distant past, which is passed down through the blood line. It is reckless, bold and death defying and it frightens her so much. She turned her attention back to Cloudander, and bid her farewell and before Skywalker would take to the skies, Cloudancer bed farewell to her mate. It was a sad farewell between two creatures that hold the capacity to love.

However, before Coci could say another word, the ground beneath them began to heave and crack and before they pushing through the dirt the giant serpents appeared. She had not witnessed the show of power from Velkar but she felt it, it was so much more that anything she had even experienced through the force, of the force but not .. it was hard to fathom. "Where ...?", the question did not finished, as soon she was in Thurion's arms and he kissed her hard and deeply. And for that moment, she was taken from this place, from this circumstance of horrors and only lived in his love. Everything part of her being returned the kiss and through it, her love reached into his heart. "Beyond this life", she whispered was their kiss ended. "I will always love you".

And all too soon, they had to part. Thurion prepared to war as he climbed on Skywalker's back and they pushed off the ground. And just for a moment she watched him and hoped that fortune would favour them all. "Audren, may the force be with you", she bowed to the Jedi Master before turning to her son. "Théo", she took her son into an embrace and found it difficult to let go of her son, regardless of the fact a man now stood before her, he is still her boy. "I love you my boy, please don't ..", she could not even bring herself to say the words. The very thought of him injured or worse she would not entertain in her mind, instead she kissed her son's cheek before turning toward the south and setting her mind to battle.

As she stood accessing the battle scene before her, Coci summon the light side of the force to her, strengthening every fibre of her being, fueling her with power and fortitude in purpose as Thurion rang out the battle cry. Ahead she could see Velkar and serpents about to engage the advancing army of the likes she had never seen, they were horrible to witness but here they were finally. And she began to run toward them, covering the ground with the use of the force powering her legs and before she reached them, the master of concealment vanished into thin air, cloaking herself like she had done countless times before. Her mind closed to everything, expect the enemy and for today, the assassin she once was had returned, ruthless in application.

She closed in on Velkar and the nearest serpent, which was about to strike at one of these power pack horrors, she ran up it's back along it's spine until reaching it head and it was only now that she uncloaked as her purple lightsaber ignited and she leaped into the air propelling herself at the first enemy and plunged her saber right through it's head down into its body.

The time was now, everything moved at a sudden pace and there was no more time for explanations. As suggested by his mother, Théo insisted Boo head for the Tarly, at least he would be safer there for the time being and have a means to escape if it came to that. He watched as his mother and father began their assault on the infernal beings that began to drop from the portal, fearsome to behold and no doubt filled with a single purpose which was to bring death to anything in their path. He waited only enough time to see that the boarding ramp to the Tarly was secured and was about to move away which he heard a noise that seemed foreign in the circumstances.

It was the bellowing of someone very familiar to him, Belawir. Now having grown to full adulthood and standing tall and proud as large as any creature of his planet.

Down the slope that would lead Belawir and his brothers into the valley, they ran as swift as the wind, and almost invisible to the eye as their gleaming white fur was akin to the snow. There was at least twenty if not more behind him all with antlers full and proud crowning their heads. He tried to remember the last time he had seen his life long friend, it had to have been the day in which Belawir had gifted Théo with a piece of antler which now forms part of his lightsaber hilt. But Théo would be mistaken, for it was Belawir that had summon Alfr to him as he lay dying from the wound of the great boar. This sacred Vhaanir would forever be his protector, from the day he was born the connection had been made and would remain until the day Théo would die.

The regal Belawir approached him, lifted his head high and snorted with flared nostrils sending out a misty stream of air from them, he's foot stamping in the snow eager to enter the arena of war, as they have done before, his large head shifted toward the portal, his black eyes seemed somewhat unsurprised by the presences of it. But of course, these are the Godly creatures that roam Midvinter and are far older than the likes of the Valkyri. It would seem strange to anyone that had not seen them before or know of their importance to Midvinter, but Théo and placed his fist over his heart in the way of the Valkyri as salute to him, and Belawir's head lowered in return.

Permission was given to ride his friend into battle once more.

"Audren, you want a ride?", Théo spoke as one of Belawir's brothers moved forward toward Audren and bowed in likeness to Belawir. His lightsaber ignited, the white blade humming and crackling with the cold, his blood was up and with little encouragement, both Belawir and Théo rode toward the battle, with the rest of the Vhaanir close behind.

Eregon flew back into the saddle without a foot in the stirrups and took hold the reins once more. The horses shifted unease as the portal swirled and began to open further, Lord Heavenshield drew up a plan on the spot, there was little time to sit and debate this but Eregon was ready to move and fight against whatever would come to destroy his planet, and protect the ones he loves so dearly. He did not speak a word to them, but simply bow his head and turned his horses head toward the south, the Rangers knew what was required of them, every one of them willing to die but they are warriors of the highest order and it takes a lot to bring one down.

They all sat in the saddle as if born to it, as the column of his men and women formed up behind him, all of them with bow and arrow in hand and allowed their mounts to have their head, and they rode high. As they approached, the funnel from the portal began to reach toward the ground, a horror to witness but the column broke divided and began to form a parameter around the what would be the touch down point of the portal. They were the first to arrive, and the first to see what spewed out of the festering mass of cloud, the sound of it was sickening to the core, cause pain to their sensitive ears but it was a little price to pay.

Every one of the Aelvar are attuned to the Frostvatn, and fueled with the blessed strength it provides them, high alert and senses acute to everything and anyone within range. "Rangers of the Realm of Averlorn, today you bring glory to us all as you stand by all peoples of Midvinter to push back the tide of terror that wants for nothing but destruction. Draw strength from that which is gifted to you, hold your honour above all and may your arrows always find their mark".

With his final words, Eregon joined his Rangers in formation and nooked an arrow to his bow, and awaited the moment in which to unleash the wall of death. Just for a split second there was deadly silence, nothing on Midvinter stirred the creatures having had sense enough to find their borrows and the avian taken flight, even the portal was quietened but not for long.

As the swirling cloud touched the ground the roar of some strange beast issued out across the land, and out step the most vile creatures to have ever set foot on Midvinter soil. It would not even be a heart beat as Eregon loosed his arrow and the Ranger followed suit. The thick black cloud of arrows hissed through the air and thumped into whatever they may. Some of the beasts dropped dead on the spot, others roared with pain but would continue their push toward the Rangers, yet another wall of arrows loosed ...

As he got closer to the eternal enemy, the stench of them he had forgotten. They smell of death and nothing of it was glorious in it, their purpose lacked any sense of honour just evil, a strange sentiment coming from someone without any sentiment. As much as he hated and loved his father, he was the Allfather and without him nothing or no one of this planet would exist, there is no point to a God otherwise. Velkar would fight his father until the end of time, but he would also fight for him and the people of this land who, regardless of what they believe or what they have been taught, need Velkar. He began to run as he approached, the great serpents had passed him and began to strike at the nearest hulking beast sinking their long protracted fangs deep into foul flesh.

Arrows from the Aelvar rangers flew all about him, he did not even give them a thought, but before lumbering with mindless objective was something from the very depths of Beornskald which could harm him, so he was on guard. But he had been here before, knew their strengths and weaknesses and their dull minds. These were the minions of someone else, driven by thirst for blood and in a hope of appeasing their leader. Who was it this time? Father had killed the last one, all of the Gods had laid waste to their armies. And why had they come here?

tumblr_inline_om63i7ZfNS1t9j5dm_500.gif
The green hot fire shooting from his hand burned them alive, he watched with pleasure as their bodies writhed on the ground before him. Again and again Velkar fought and like any good God of Midvinter, his blood was up and the cry of ancient times called to him. His dagger sank deep into the flesh of beast, piercing his heart spewing blood down it's chest, the burning blade cooking skin and blood foul to the senses. Black blood of the beasts.

A ear piercing scream split the air among the sound of war, as one of the serpents here to do his bidding, had been cut just below the head, not severed entirely and writhing in agony with it's head lolling to the side. Velkar turned to the creature that had cut down his serpent, advanced and slit his throat.

As sole ruler of the skies for the time being, Thurion and Skywalker were able to provide air support wherever needed by swooping down and rip the unknown enemy to shreds if they were unlucky enough to make it past the barrage of Aelvar arrows. Down below he noted his wife riding into battle upon the back of one of the Hrothwûrms before leaping into the fray. Not far behind her rode Théo upon the back of a white stag whom he assumed to be Belawir, the young buck who once upon a time stumbled into their lives. Théo and him had long ago forged a bond of friendship, perhaps fated to be part of one another by the Force or otherwise.

At first the battle went wholly in their favour; the initial wave of enemies fell one after the other to their combined efforts, the Aelvar claiming the vast majority of kills. Yet the enemy seemed without number as more and more just kept pouring in to replace their fallen brethren. Their small numbers certainly could not keep up the momentum indefinitely, and with every enemy breaking through the barrage their attentions became increasingly divided. What had began as a minor skirmish soon turned into a sizeable encounter as eventually the Aelvar were forced to commit to melee as well, diminishing their effectiveness at ranged combat.

"Dive, dive," he called out to his gryphon mount over the rush of wind and turmoil of war, and so Skywalker descended upon the battlefield, landing unopposed amidst the thick of the fighting as razor-sharp talons shredded armour and his strong beak tore limb from limb in gruesome yet decisive fashion. Upon his back Thurion delivered mighty blows from sword and shield alike, and within the first minute of sustained fighting they were both splattered with blood and grime. One thing he'd noticed was that whenever an enemy was killed, its body would quickly decay and melt away within its armour leaving only scrap metal as their spirits returned to the portal high above. These beings certainly were not of this world, or any world for that matter.

Eventually Thurion was knocked off his mount from a shoulder-charging foe, yet he was able to get back on his feet within seconds. With his rider grounded, Skywalker now fought side by side with him as he was left to his own devices as to where to focus his attacks, becoming a true whirlwind of death. Thurion issued terrible shield-bashes, utilising the Force to make his shield strike whole rows of enemies at a time, knocking them several feet back and sowing confusion. At one point he threw his shield at a nearby enemy, skewering him before it would target another one to the same effect as Thurion used telekinesis to make it fly in a circle around him, deflecting incoming blows as well as bashing heads in. Once it had made a complete lap around its master, the shield would return to him.

Given a moment's pause, Thurion looked around to see how his wife and son fared before then gazing towards the crest of the hill overlooking the battlefield. "Better get here soon, Thyrian..." Looking back at Coci and noting an enemy about to cut her down from behind with a rather mean-looking axe, he promptly grabbed hold of his wife with the Force and pulled her towards him until he caught her in his arms, seamlessly transitioning into a heat-of-the-moment kiss despite all that was going on around the two. "What's the saying, 'make love, not war'," he smirked down at her. "I figure why not both?"

Audren returned the bow given to him by Coci. He turned to the onrushing creatures, eying their motion, arms, and armor. They appeared primitive if not outright savage, but if they came from the same...place...as Velkar then it would not be wise to underestimate them. Thurion took off on the back of the creature he rode with a battle cry, and Coci began running full tilt at the invaders as well. Along the way, she vanished entirely from sight, a neat trick that he'd have to learn one of these days. When there wasn't a battle to fight.

Boo fell back to the ship, and as the ramp closed there came the bellow of a creature to match any of the giant worms. But behind them. As he turned to examine the new factor, the Sephi could barely see the small herd of animals racing into the valley. Their white fur and general speed made them difficult to track, but the antlers on their heads were simple enough to re-acquire. Instead of racing into battle or attacking Théo and himself however, the creatures stopped near them. The young Heavenshield apparently knew the lead animal; he gave a salute and the creature bowed in return. Most remarkable.

"Audren, you want a ride?"

As Théo mounted the one creature that had bowed, he offered the Jedi one of the others. It - he - moved forward and bowed just like the other one had, which Audren returned. Possibilities and tactics ran through his mind as he in turn mounted the creature, which promptly turned and began moving with the rest of the herd. Before them, the Aelvar arrows blackened the sky and pierced the creatures. Velkar's worms flattened or tore them apart, and Velkar himself appeared to be roasting them alive with fire cast from his hands. Audren could have done the same, but that would have been directly killing with the Force, and of the Dark Side. Thurion was swooping and attacking, taking out swarms of the enemy with each attack. Then he was on the ground entirely, no longer flying, but still a terror to their enemy.

Rather than stay on the back of his mount, where his shorter weapons would do little good, the elfin Jedi prepared himself as they closed. Both feet rose to be planted on the creature's back and propel the rider to his feet. Blond hair streamed behind him as he balanced atop the creature in a half-crouch. The herd lowered their heads to allow antlers to have their say, and at the point of contact where equal and opposite forces came into play, the Sephi was launched. It was very much intended, as evidenced by the graceful arc through the air.

By luck or design of the interlopers, the Sephi landed in a small clearing with nobody within range of his dagger. His skill set was not simply martial however. As he stuck the three-point landing, a powerful wave of Force energy emanated from him. All were blown away from the point of impact, but the closest had pieces of their armor torn off from the force of the assault. The concussion wave wasn't easy on the armored bodies either. Almost as soon as he'd landed, he was up in the air again and heading deeper into the horde. In perhaps an attempt to stop him from duplicating the last assault, two of them rushed with swords held high.

They died in a flash of swirling light.

Where Coci's lightsaber was purple and Théo's was white, Audren's own burned orange. It cut through the creatures' helmets without resistance. Like before, the instant he touched the ground he was moving again, only this time he wasn't arcing through the air. He moved along the ground with both lightsaber and dagger in hand, moving through enemies like an obstacle course. It couldn't last, the numbers were too heavily on the side of the enemy. Eventually they would all fall, overwhelmed by the flood. All they had to do was hang on for long enough though, given that the bulk of the Valkyri forces were on their way. He could almost hear the horns blaring.

As Belawir and the rest of the herd plowed through the snow, kicking up clumps as they moved, Théo saw first hand the enemy up close and they were the foulest beings he had ever seen, which was a big call considering he had faced the Vinterbound so many years ago now. The more they ripped them down, spilling black blood to the ground corrupting the white snow, the more of them that came out of the portal. Before one of them had even set foot on Midvinter, Belawir lowered his heavy set of antlers and dug them deep into the lower body of the first one, piercing him as Théo swung his lightsaber to remove its head, which went rolling to the ground.

However, the impact of Belawir coming to a sudden halt when he hit the enemy had thrown Théo and he landed on the ground with a thud among the bodies that lay dead, but he was soon on his feet once more. Nowhere near as graceful as the movements of Audren, but effective enough. His spare hand unsheathed his sword, and for a moment he was alone without foe to cut down. His gaze lifted to the portal, he was right under it but could the mass of cloud swirling and churning and out of it more came, they had to close this thing somehow but what means did they have to do so?

By all accounts they had one God, but even Velkar had not the power enough to do it or would he have done it by now? Who knew with him. If the Gods are real, why are they not here? Did they not care what was happening to their people and then just as he had that thought, a flash of white lightning ripped across the top most part of the portal and he could have sworn he saw a man with long flowing blonde hair wielding a large sword cutting down one of the creatures before they even had a chance to descend. Helm? Théo stood in awe at the sight, it was like he was watching his childhood superheros in action before his eyes.

A sudden surge in the force snapped Théo out of his revere and he ducked just as a large club swung toward him but sailed over his head, a sweeping arc of his saber cut through the legs of the creature taking out one leg and the foul beast fell to the ground, but Théo's saber plunged through his chest before it realised it's end was now. Around him more and more of the foe fell to the swords and arrows of their small group, but soon they would be overwhelmed and out of energy to fight them all but they had to buy time before the army of the King arrived. Covered in muck and black blood, Théo leaped off one of the dead and threw himself into the fray once more, fueled by the knowledge that they were not fighting here today .. alone.

The battle was not without loss for the small group of defenders of Midvinter, the one called Velkar had sustained losses with his great serpents which he did not take kindly to and seemed to fuel his rage even further. The scent of charred burning corrupted flesh stained the air around them, as green unnatural fire flick across the bodies of the dead or those lay dying from this Gods magic. But regardless of all this horror, what his heart could not bear was the sight of his sacred Aelvar Rangers lay dead on the battlefield cut down by these beasts, those that were remaining had regrouped at his command and set their sights on the portal loosing their wall of arrows to anything that came out of it, filling them with arrows before they hit the ground dead, their accuracy was uncanny and always effective.

But the Bearer of the Aelvar dismounted and unsheathed his sword of Aelvarian design which glistened with the flash of light that streamed from the one called Audren, not that Eregon noticed as his eyes were firmly set upon one of the larger creatures. He walked with determination and a pace that showed his authority not a show of emotion on his face, but inside him his heart pounded with lust for the kill. The power of the Frostvatn, bent to his will, powered him with the force like it had done for so many years now, and his arm raised, the bellow that came out of the man was uncharacteristic of him but turned the attention of several of the foe toward his direction and they lumbered toward him.

For the Rangers that fell this day, their deaths would not go unanswered.

Eregon stood his ground as the four beasts encircled him, a smirk crossed his face as he waited for their first move, the one behind him grew impatient for blood and raised his club but did not get the chase to lowered it, as his guts spilled to the ground before him, as Eregon's moved swiftly in a blur and his sword cut his belly open. The beast stumbled backward, holding his guts but it did not take long for him to fall back to the ground dead. The others now enraged by this come on Eregon together, but the Elf King so fleet of foot moved before their clubs struck and they hit the ground where he once stood. Confused for a moment, until one of them looked to this chest to see the elfin sword sticking out of his chest. Eregon would cut the four of the down.

He had to say he was impressed by the fighting spirit of the mortals around him, they all worked as if in unison to push back the horde as best they could and before long there was a pile of wasted bodies spread across the icy field. The loss on their part was minimal by comparison to the slayed of the immortal enemy, but as one would fall another would stand in its place. Quite frankly, that situation was becoming rather tedious. Brother, they are still getting through! he yelled through godly communication with Helm. Velkar do your job, I shall do mine! Well you are not doing a good enough job!

Velkar looked around the surroundings, he could the pretty one fighting with her saber with total disregard for herself, the self proclaimed God Killer rode high on the gryphon's majestic back cutting his way through the horde until landing finding her, Velkar rolled his eyes witnessing the show of love on the battlefield. God Killer indeed, how many self proclaimed God Killers had met their deaths facing a true one. But through the fight they had found themselves isolated in some case, fighting alone and soon would be over come, somehow they had to regroup, this thought crossed his mind as he slit the throat of another and let it drop to the ground. The army of the King would arrive soon but he had to buy them some time.

gio0c1a.gif
Suddenly all around them all the illusion of Velkar appeared, goading the enemy to come to him and cut him down and just for a moment a pause in the fighting as they turned to see their enemy of old appear in countless numbers before them, the attack turned on him or rather the illusions while the real God walked with a casual air in his stride toward a pocket of tall trees, the only ones found close by, raised his hands toward them and with the power of gods granted to him, he uprooted them all and turned them toward the portal and they flew through the air like spears and entered the swirling maelstrom and as they did, each and every one of them burst into hot green fire which made them splinter in all directions piercing the enemy before they even had a chance to descend, it started to rain bodies which piled up on the ground.

Velkie! I am up here too you know! came the bellow from Helm, as he pulled a piece of burning tree from his leg, although Helm was grateful for his brothers help. Velkar smirked, I know, You'er welcome brother.

The swing of her purple blade cut through the shoulder blade through to the lower torso of the enemy and the side of him slide to the ground in a burning stench, she stopped for a moment to take in a deep breath, refilling her lungs from the fatigue. Suddenly she felt the force grip her, two fold in fact. Firstly alerting her to the impending danger behind her but before she could react, the force grip pulled her away as if flying over the battlefield and into Thurion's arms and before a word could be spoke, his lips pressed against hers for a deep kiss. For in that moment, as always when he does this, she vanished into another world in which only they exist, even the sound of the battle around them vanished and it was wonderful to her senses, revitalising her.

"I love you", was all she had time to say and grinned at him in return as she pulled back from the embrace only to throw her saber over his shoulder with such force, it speared the enemy about to cleaver Thurion in twain. More and more came toward them, those that had not been distracted by Velkar and his illusion. Now why didn't I think of that. She thought as she spun on the spot until back to back with her beloved Thurion and once more the two of them launched into the fray as they had done from the first moment they meet.

"Battle is going well don't you think?", she could not help but giggle at her over estimation of the situation, sweeping her blade once more to sever the legs from under yet another foe.

The march south had been made with relative ease, given the haphazard nature of it all; while his brother and sister-in-law had scouted ahead upon the backs of their gryphon companions, Thyrian remained behind leading the vast army of hundreds upon thousands of men and women with [member="Arnor Oathsworn"] showing them the way to where he and Nina had been ambushed. It was the only clue they had to go on, and the most likely place they would find this new, strange enemy. It soon became rather apparent to anyone that they were going the right way considering the massive, swirling maelstrom forming up ahead, seen for miles upon miles. There was no mistake that this was the doing of their newfound enemies, whoever they were or to whom they pledged allegiance.

"What do the scanners say," the king spoke into his comm-link, asking the Commander of the Judgement; a massive Tulak Hord-class Star Destroyer of a bygone Sith era which perpetually orbited Midvinter ever since Thyrian made the planet his home. Hers was a crew loyal to the very end, forsaking all else in order to serve their former Sith masters. As the years went on, members of the crew would begin to form romantic relations amongst themselves and start families, all of them living aboard the mighty vessel. Of course they were welcome to come down and visit the world they'd helped kept safe for so many years whenever they liked.

"It is... quite the unique energy signature, my lord," the aging Commander replied with his typical Imperial dialect, having never strayed from referring to him by his old Sith title in spite of Thyrian's protests. "Readings show that it is not the same one that occurred during the Netherworld event, but something rather different. Something, I dare say, not of this world. Or any world that we know of," he continued. "We will continue to monitor the situation and provide fire support at your order, sire." This did little to ease the High King's mind, who now looked to his firstborn son riding alongside him. The boy looked like he belonged; not just in the saddle, but at the head of a vast army. He was born into this world and its culture, after all - moreso than he himself was.

"She is alright, you know," he spoke, prompting Thrand to turn his head with an inquisitive look on his face. "Princess Ióunn," he clarified rather knowingly. "That is why you really wanted to go, isn't it? For the chance to see her?" Thrand shied away, trying desperately not to give away the slight blush on his cheeks. "She will be safe in Averlorn; her people will protect her to the last." Their eyes met, with the prince having steeled himself for the ever-fiery gaze that is his father's. "She wrote me a letter, father. She... she is very dear to me. I would be at her side during these trying times." There it was: That same readiness to forsake one's own life for the person you love. He knew it well - better than most, quite possibly.

As the march went on and they approached the looming portal high above, the cavalry split from the rest of the army to get there sooner. The all-too familiar sound of battle could be heard from afar, and as the king and his forces appeared upon the crest of the hill overlooking the battlefield a thousand horns sounded their arrival, shaking the very earth. "Father, it's Uncle Thurion and the others," his son was the first to spot them amongst the mayhem. "Along with a detatchment of Aelvar Rangers, it appears." Thyrian gave Thrand a sharp nod, letting him know the time had come. "Fight well, my son," he rode in close as he clasped arms with him. "From this day forward you are no longer a child, but a man." With this, Thrand rode off to see to the right flank as the cavalry got ready for the charge.

giphy.gif

"Sons and Daughters of Midvinter," he shouted over the sound of fourty-thousand hooves eagerly awaiting the command. "On this dark day we face an enemy the likes of which do not occur in history books or in stories, for they have never set foot upon our soil until now. Before us stands your brave Defender and his closest kin, keeping the forces of darkness at bay with the aid of our elven allies! But do they stand alone?!" An ear-shattering roar swept over the host of horsemen, spears at the ready and banners of every house fluttering in the wind. "Ride now, for the fate of our world! For the glory of the Gods!"

Drawing his sword which then caught fire, he pointed it towards the enemy down below. "FOR THE HEAVENSHIELD!"

All at once the ten thousand cavalrymen charged down the hill in formation, issuing their battle cries in a frenzy like the fiercest of thunderstorms. Behind them the infantry would follow suit, with the first line being made up of Beorni warriors clad from head to toe in thick armour turning them into living battering rams, unable to slow down once they pick up enough speed.

The march alongside the armies of Midvinter had presented a drastic change in her position since first having come into the company of [member="Théodred Heavenshield"], she whom had never trusted a soul before in her harsh upbringing, let alone any symbol of authority that she could contend and fight against, had nowadays found herself walking in league with not the first but the second great legions of man. The Iron Empire had been the first, that of which Théodred had given his loyalty though hers was not formally sworn rather than more-so a matter of the right time and place alongside Théo whom had gained a portion of her trust at that stage and sought to explore the unique and unusual comfort that she had found in his presence.

Midvinter on the other hand was something inherently different. Part of her might have argued that it felt so at home for her due to the closure and connection that they two had established as a couple, yet it was more than this and deep down Ylva had found a calling here upon this world. It's lands teamed with game, that fullness of life and the violent turns to the natural world, nature pushing every wayfarer or explore to their limits whom sought to trek such a land, it was all so exhilarating to her; she had never known a place so daring nor grown so fond of her surroundings. Théo had introduced her to the Force there upon Midvinter, a power that she had never even dreamed she might posses...-It was her connection to the spirit of the world and her understanding of the wilderness, part of why she felt more at home in the hills and woodlands of Midvinter than she did in most hearth's save for his back in Himmeldal.

Attire: Ylva Solveig's Light Armor
War-Mount: Bjomolf - Ylva Solveig's Guardian
Position: Forward Calvary Regiment (Second wave).

The Beorni were fierce warriors, great ursine with the strength share men could not match. Their's was a thunderous charge for whom rivaled the blackened skies of war and not far behind them, Bjomolf the great dire wolf whose size and mass rivaled even they, carried the redheaded archer down towards the chaos of war. Here there was no time for doubt, no allowance for a change in heart nor fear to cloud ones dedication to the time and moment, the heat of battle already set upon them and in her eyes was a fire to match the aggression that was cast back at them from their indomitable foe. What Monsters were these that they were to face; The likes of walking demons come to plague their world, so large that they would take an army to bring to their knees yet here in the men and women, the alliance of two nations of Midvinter, the Aelvar too, courage was on display for all evil to face and fear.

Lifting her Bow, a spear-tipped arrow head rising against the tremor and gallop of the beasts body beneath her, Ylva Solveig let loose the first shot, quickly reaching for another that she might send of several in swift greeting of the enemy horde. This single arrow would soon be joined in darkening the horizon by the hundreds of others loosed by the Aelvar beyond the charging Alliance, they known by legend for their accuracy in the field and arts of the bow. Ylva herself having coming to witness this upon former days where a younger Aelven woman, Ióunn had crossed paths with her. A time of former peace...

Adredaline peaked as the distance between she and their foe had considerably lessoned, Bjomolf's ferocity showing now as his breathing had taken on a far more vicious growl, his great paws digging deep into the snow laden earth, Ylva forsaking the bow to instead return the ranged weapon over her shoulder in favor for her twin Axe's sheathed against the beasts sides. The Beorni found the first defensive line of the horde, Ylva watching with great anticipation as the Ursine collided against the arms and armor of the strange and unnatural opposition; Bjomolf himself soon to follow alongside the many other men riding horse-back, their calls and warcry's soaring high above them as the two legions met together at great speed, both sides thrown against one another, the clash of swords and steel soon engulfing them as time hastened and all was left to the violence of war.

There was a horde of all bad things.

Having been sent back to the Tarly, Boo was well positioned to be able to observe the situation evolving on the ground. It was a vantage point from which he did not share [member="Coci Heavenshield"]'s optimistic appraisal of events.

The Knights of Ren and the First Order usually had simple solutions for these sorts of problems. Orbital bombardment did wonders for thinning the enemy's ranks. Sadly, Boo had neither an armada of star destroyers nor a death star. Plus, they kind of wanted to maintain Midvinter's ecosystem. And not killing the good guys was also a plus.

In contrast to the brute tactics of the First Order, the Host Lord of the Primeval - the dread prophet Anja Aj'Rou - would have made use of some kind of spell that would have found another way to help even the odds.

Or, better yet, swing them in the favor of the good guys.

...some kind of spell.

The young Pantoran nibbled on one thumb, shifting from side to side anxiously as he debated something which he knew [member="Théodred Heavenshield"] would not like.

Going to the back of the Tarly, the boy rummaged through the things that were packed there, until at last he came up with a leather-bound tome. It was a book. Loub-paper yellowed with age.

It was knowledge forbidden from time immemorial.

It was Sith, the work of one of the architects of Dark Side magic. An early pioneer in Sith sorcery. The witch, Broodica.

He had stumbled across it on Sekalus as a young knight errant of Ren. And he carried it still. Never quite ready to toss it out. Never willing to destroy it.

Not brave enough to read from it, instead it just existed. A temptation of past lives and time spent as an assassin at the beck and call of the Primeval and the Hutt Cartel.

As he came down from the loading ramp and stepped into the light of day, two blue fingers traced along the cover of the tome.

He need only read from the book...

The pages spilled open, the work of the Dark Side seemingly turning itself, until the boy arrived at a spell. A terrible, awful spell. It was not at all what Théo would have wanted.

But it was, perhaps, what Théo needed.

In stepping out from the blood and fire of the Primeval and the First Order, the Pantoran had taken one step forward.

He now took two steps backward.

How familiar the feeling? The ring upon his finger. Cold as the grave, yet hotter than any smoldering ember. The pain familiar, as though he had re-discovered a part of himself that he had merely forgotten.

The Dark Side of the Force moved around the child as his hand returned to the pages of the book. The words of the page seemed to come alive, their meaning now clear, as the boy's glowing, amber eyes saw with a clarity that only the damned could possess.

The words rolled off the tongue. The language arcane, forsaken.

As he spoke, the air grew still. An eerie calm falling like a shroud before the temperature dropped. Lightning clashed overhead, as a bolt came down just a meter apart from where the boy stood.

Smoke billowed from out of the scorched, blackened ground.

And that smoke began to take on human form...

The witch-boy had come to Midvinter. And the Dark Side was ever his companion.

Now perhaps the hordes would have something new to fight.

As the last of his foe fell to the ground at his feet, Eregon was able to take breath and just at this moment, as if the day could not get any stranger, appeared a visage of a being of smoke the likes of which he had never seen in his life. A female form swirling in the air with a power that seemed to come from the source that feeds the Frostvatn. He knew that others in the world had this ability like his own, some of them on the field of battle today, the Heavenshields and their companions are attuned to it, and they call it the force.

But this being of smoke was dark, seeping from an evil that had not graced these lands for many a year, oh there had been some of his kin that had used this power before, and had died as a consequence of it, as their only purpose was to bring ruination on this Midvinter. It had been fuel for the hatred between the Valkyri and the Aelvar so many years ago but nothing the Aelvar said quelled the suspicions of the clans and so they warred and the once friendships had been destroyed with mistrust.

Yet it was not Aelvar nor Valkyri that had summon this evil, Eregon’s head turned and found a small boy of blue standing as if in a trance, it was the young son of Théodred of the north. The form of smoke twisted the minds of the enemy and pulled them to her only to perish as they neared and the sound horns split the thunderous sound of battle and beyond the field on a high slope rode the King and his banner man charging into battle. Eregon could breathe again, and just maybe with turn in events would they finally prevail.

“To the King!”, he yelled to his Rangers, who all turned their attention to the charging horses and they would ride and cut down anything in their path until they meet the King of the Valkyri in the middle.

Velkar’s exploding trees would provide respite for a few minutes as dead bodies of the enemy dropped from the gateway and Théo had to scramble to get out of the way or else he would be buried in them. He found Belawir once more, standing on the edge of the field with his black eyes piercing the area before they found Théo’s. There was a shimmer of light that crossed them and for a fleeting moment the eyes of another looked into Théo’s heart which caused him to blink.

“Who are you?”, he suddenly asked his lifelong companion. For as long as he could remember, there was this strange connection with the Gods of Midvinter, him and his sister Mysa had had communications with them, and both of them had put it down to childhood dreams, but now Théo was not so sure of that and with Velkar here as large as life, it was too much of a coincidence. There would be no answer to his question however and he would have to revisit this later.

The thundering sound of the charging army, the horns of battle loud on the air turned his attention as they come into a clash of bone and metal. His uncles had arrived and just at the right time, for they all would outnumbered very quickly, the relief washed over him immediately and battle fatigue set in, and he leaned down to rest hands on his thighs to take in long wind into his lungs. His small break did not last however as the black moist nose of Belawir nuzzled into his side of his face, urging him to mount his back once more.

A doubled sensation of heightened awareness through the force hit Théo in the chest like a bolt. A strong pull on the darkside, so familiar to him that it’s author could only be one person, Boo. Damn it Boo! He should be on the ship and safe from any of the dangers they all face, even though Théo knew Boo had seen more than a child should in his life, he was trying to shield him from experience more and only wanted to provide Boo with a life void of it as he could and let the boy be a boy for a while. It is an impossible dream of course, anywhere in the galaxy .. something always comes to destroy peace.

It was not the fact that Boo used the darkside to manifest his power that made Théo angry, it was the fact that his son had no choice, that had been taken from him, and Théo understood more than most that not all of users of this dark power are evil, many he had known use it to fight for good but boy was it a sight to behold as big as life in a swirling visage of evil and .. it was very effective and much helpful to them all.

And then there was the presence of his beloved Ylva. A sense of relief washed over him coupled with fear which cut his soul in two, she is a warrior and well and truly take care of herself but that does not stop the ones that you from fear of the worst. Besides, this enemy is the likes of which none of them had ever seen before, anywhere. He could see her in the distance astride the fearsome wolf, cutting her way through the throngs of such horror. For all the world he wanted to run to her but from where he was that was path was cut off to him.

Without any more hesitation, Théo launched onto the back of Belawir, the purpose in their direction was known to them both through a connection that Théo did not understand and for the most part, had given up trying to and they raced around the edge of the battlefield firstly toward Boo.

As they both approached, Théo extended his hand, “Boo! To me”, he yelled hoping his son would take his hand which Théo would take and pull him up on Belawir before they would turn to enter the fray once more and find Ylva.

While she was still within his embrace Thurion looked down into those dark pools that formed [member="Coci Heavenshield"]'s eyes, able to swallow a man whole as he tries to discover their depths. He raised a hand to her cheek, wiping away some dirt despite the futility of it, knowing she would just get messy again moments later. But in this moment, Thurion did not say anything but simply stood taking in her every feature as if he'd never laid eyes on her until now. He was hers, and she was his - mind, body and soul.

But the battle raged forever on, and as the enemy inevitably closed in once more the two assumed their stance back to back, covering every possible angle of attack creating an impenetrable wall. They'd faced the worst the galaxy had to offer; no mindless slaves such as these would stand any chance while husband and wife still draw breath. Still, this new threat was far more capable than the Vinterbound which came before them. No shambling corpses were they, and they fought just as fiercely and with the same zeal as the living.

Great horns of battle sounded in the distance, soon followed by the thundering of horses and the deafening screams of their riders. The King had arrived, and so had the entire Valkyri army drawn from every corner of the realm. Banners of every proud clan fluttered wildly in the wind, and as the cavalry lowered their spears as they charged they tore through enemy ranks, sowing chaos and destruction just as the defending forces were being overwhelmed. Many Aelvar had given their lives already, yet for every one of them the foul creatures had suffered a dozen casualties. Riding past him at full speed, the High King turned to find his brother's gaze as time all but stood still, and the two shared a momentary interaction before it caught up to them.

After the cavalry charge had freed up the defending force and inevitably got stuck in themselves, the next wave came in the form of Beorni battering rams, lead by Arnor himself, sending enemies flying soon followed by the countless infantry unleashing their fury, drawing strength from chanting their gods' names and getting worked up into a battle frenzy. And yet for every one of them, more and more came pouring through the swirling portal above their heads. It was a tide never-ending, and Thurion could not help but wonder whether it would ever end. Were they all trapped in an endless cycle of death and destruction?

Coming to his and Coci's aid were the forces of Fridheim, spearheaded by the elite Lionguard brandishing their shimmering greatswords. "There you are, lad," the familiar voice of Belegar struck his ears which prompted a smile. "Couldn't wait to take on more than you could handle, could ye? My lady," he briefly greeted the Lady Heavenshield before getting to work breaking skulls with his mighty hammer. "Hey, where's Birdbrain at?" Just as he'd given word to his question, a huge number of enemies were bring torn apart revealing Skywalker in the thickest of the fighting, screaming and roaring to his heart's content. "Never mind!"

There was complete chaos around them, no different to any battlefield she had trod on before this day, the difference being that the enemy was in countless supply. Around them was the many corpses of the enemy but they just seemed to come no matter what the small group of defenders threw at them but with the coming of the king and his army, Coci was able to lower her saber and her defences for just a moment to allow herself to breath once more. The army rode passed them, a deafening sound of war cry and hooves churning up the ground now sodden with black blood.

She could feel Thurion's back pressed to hers as they both stood watching and she knew this moment of reprieve would not last long as they would be back among the fighting soon enough. And soon enough Thurion's Valkyri blood would summon him to throw himself into it all again, especially with Thyrian here, her eyes looked around the area, she knew Théo was still alive she could sense it, but it did not stop a mother from wanting to see him with her own eyes, and lo and behold there he was riding at pull pelt on the back of a Vhaanir with fire in his blood just like his father. Her black eyes followed to where he was headed and they found Boo standing with the darkside pulled to him as strong and anyone she had encountered over her life time and on any other given day she would have frown upon this but not today. She was so very proud of her boys. The day was not over however, they still had not put a dint into the enemy and anything could happen to any of them which did not bear thinking about.

Coci saw the sight of the one called Ylva riding at speed into the battle like the shieldmaidens of legend without a thought to her wellfare, it was a sight to behold so brave and strong is she that it was admirable and her connection to the force so raw and wild, that girl had much potential through the force and if they where all to survive this day, Coci would see to it. And she wondered on the connection to her son.

Master Sykes was always a man of few words, but he let his actions speak for him and in the grace of his movements one could tell there was fire beneath the stoic face. He is a most formidable warrior and swift of foot and hand like she had never seen before. And all in his wake fell before him. But she knew eventually all of them would be overcome with battle fatigue, even force users fall to it so the arrival of the army was a salvation for the time being.

The Lionguard formed up around them both, the best of the best of the Westmark and awaited their Lord's command but before that was given, Coci turned and with her tired arms she grabbed hold of her husband and kissed him hard as her love for him poured through her lips into his heart, and forgot the battle for a brief moment, she wanted this moment to last a life time just in case this was their end.

Audren kept moving, most of his attention on the fight. Anything less would mean his demise. While that itself would not turn the tide of battle, his death would mean more of the invaders left alive, which meant more of his allies would die. However, what little of his attention was left was aware of the surroundings and was trying to plan. The mix was always in flux, sometimes had a bit too much on the fight and sometimes too much on the overall situation.

He'd taken a couple hits here and there, so far nothing big. Typically elbows or physical contact when he stopped paying enough attention to the horde around him, which would cause bruises, which weren't debilitating in and of themselves but would add up. Even then, he took the unanticipated direction that contact sent him in to move unpredictably and prevent himself from being skewered or otherwise maimed. Both hands were constantly in motion while his feet kept him stable even amidst the fallen bodies. He used the Force both to sense items and actively manipulate them: his position in relation to those he was fighting, upcoming attacks against him, tripping up legs, and slowing attacks just enough.

The portal needed to be closed, that much was obvious. If it wasn't, even the armies of Midvinter would be overwhelmed. He could see no way to do that though, other than maybe sending one of the Tarly's missiles into it. If the ship even had missiles. Duck, hamstring, bisect. It would help if they knew what was causing the portal, but that would involve getting someone up there...who knew if the thing ran backwards? Trip this one, stumble the one behind him and the two on either side of that one. Even if they got someone up there, who knew if the thing ran on equipment or something else entirely; Velkar had already displayed powers unknown to the rest.

It wasn't long before the Sephi found himself in the middle of a group of the enemy, one coordinated by an officer of some sort. The officer had uglier armor and an attitude to match. He gestured with the large sword carried in a single hand and spoke, some sort of guttural language. Audren didn't speak troll however, and stated such. It was clear that his words were not understood, but the derisive tone was. Somehow the Lieutenant's face got even uglier and he barked out a command. Three of the group rushed the Jedi from disparate angles, aiming to grapple him. He lithely slipped through the gauntlet, sliced his dagger through the hamstring of the one closest, and pushed another. The clang of armor contact was most impressive though largely lost in the overall battle, and the three were down.

"You'll have to do better than that."

Again, no understanding, but the mocking and derisive tone carried more meaning than words would convey. Another barked command, and one of them lurched at him with sword raised high. A single thread of Force power tweaked the ground beneath the creature's feet, causing him to stumble past and impale himself on the sword of another making up the circle around the Sephi. The raised sword fell, itself cutting deep into another of the invaders. No words were spoken this time, just a single expressive look at the carnage.

The officer had apparently seen enough. He grunted another word, but this time instead of a rushing alien there was a rush of power. The being's sword burst into flame and he moved forward to confront Audren personally. The Sephi shook his head in mock sadness, then gestured with the same hand that held the dagger. The flames on the sword abruptly jumped the distance between them and gathered before the outstretched hand, compacting into a brilliant ball of flame. That sphere was hurled up into the air at the portal, clearly visible all across the battlefield. It would have been powerful enough to send through the armored bodies of several of these enemies, but again that would be killing with the Force. Instead he tried to drop or destabilize the place the attackers originated from.

Not willing to appear weak in front of his soldiers, the Lieutenant swung his sword hard...only to have it intercepted by the orange lightsaber blade. The metal was sheared in two almost without resistance and a lightning-fast reversal decapitated the being. Or tried to, as it happened. The blade of light left a glowing orange slash mark across the gorget that protected the officer's neck, and a second look showed a shallow cut in the rapidly-cooling area. Whatever metal it was made of, the higher-grade armor was lightsaber-resistant. Another sword was brought up from the ground, and this time a serious duel was had. Well, serious to a degree. Audren was testing the armor, seeing if the rest of it was the same quality. There were differences, but it was the same more or less. It wasn't without weak points though, as evidenced by the incineration of the being's heart and lungs via piercing stab to an armpit.

The surge of dismay from the encircling creatures was palpable, but only one tried to exact revenge immediately. Not having learned the offered lesson, it rushed Audren. With a flash of insight, the Jedi spun out of the way, the spin allowing the lightsaber to disembowel the attacker, then spun back and used the Force to push the creature up and into the sky. At that same moment, a number of loud cracks were heard and wood shards came hurtling through the air. What would have hit Audren instead speared through the flying creature - armor and all - while other shards pelted those around him.

As bodies dropped all around, horns were heard. Real, actual horns now, not the ones he'd foreseen coming. Midvinter's army had arrived, thousands strong. The assault provided a moment of respite. While badly needed, the pause also made the Sephi aware of the aches and pains that were just the beginning. A dozen small cuts from flying shrapnel, bruises all over...he missed his armor. Then the Dark Side made its presence known. It crawled across the battlefield, and the origin drew Audren's eyes: Boo Chiyo. That was unfortunate for the boy, there would be consequences from such use.

By the hundreds, the Valkyri army rode pass him at full speed, throwing horse and rider into the fight. The sound of swords cutting through flesh and metal added to the already busy battle but even for Velkar it was a welcomed relief, if only for a short while. Not that he was fatigued, in fact the opposite, he had energy to burn, figuratively and literally but it allowed him a few moments to think. There was something different, something much strange about this turn from the eternal enemy, they are more driven, guided and he should feel the presence of this guiding hand upon them, but he did not know who.

What were they after?

He knew the workings of them, this was but the first wave of their attack much more would come and all of the Gods would be needed to repel them. It was like this in the past and it was so powerful and deadly that Beornskald would feel the aftermath of it for centuries to come, so what would be the result of the mortals? Eradication? no, there was no point to that, at least for a God unless one wanted to start all over again, or take over the world for their own .. in this case it might be both, which would mean the end of the Gods of Midvinter as well.

A big brute of a man suddenly stopped his mount near by, throwing himself and his mighty flaming sword into the never ending enemy with such might and command that even Velkar had to watch him for a moment. Ah so that is the king of these dull creatures. The Valkyri had always been thus to Velkar, although Velkar had always conceded that without them he would not exist so for that alone they were worth saving. And there was fire in the man, literally, although he was not a pretty sight by any means, but this fascinated Velkar.

Velkar approached [member="Thyrian Hearthfire"], a leisurely stroll as he sunk his blade into the back of one of the roaring heap of flesh and did not even wait for it to hit the ground. Another of these hideous creatures moved and stood in his path between the king and himself, a mighty axe raised to cleave off the king's head but the axe did not even reach full height before a shaft of hot burning green flame shot from Velkar's hand into it in the shape of a sword, and the brute fell in a burning heap right behind the King.

"Now I am impressed".

"Ssu ce'lla sh'a ffryn dor..."

Dark Lords of the Sith made this stuff look really, really easy. Force Lightning from your fingertips? No problem! Force Choke without even looking at you? Yep, they could do that, too. Manage a smoke demon while multi-tasking between their morning newspaper and a krakana-lox bagel? Absolutely!

So... maybe it was a good thing that Boo wasn't really all that great at this Sith Sorcery thing? "Ssu ce'lla sh'a ffryn dor..." the Pantoran repeated, the Ancient Sith language rolling off the tongue as he kept the grimoire open and one hand focused at the glowing sigils on the page.

He was maintaining the smoke demon's corporeal form, but -- to be totally honest -- he wasn't as certain about controlling the smoke demon.

Luckily, almost everything that there was to smash that was within smashing range was all stuff that they wanted it to smash. So, even if he wasn't in control of the smoke demon, the end result was more or less what the situation needed.

“Boo! To me.”

Oh good, the nerf herding cavalry had arrived.

Closing the grimoire, the smoke demon faded back into the breeze as the spell was un-done. Tucking the book into his satchel, the Pantoran extended his arm and was pulled up into Théo's lap atop...

...whatever it was that they were now riding.

Craning his head back, Boo just looked up at Ser Scuffy and offered a quiet, "Hi!"
