  • Slave-Rigged — The Venator Kashyyyk-class has been equipped with an extensive slave circuit system which has significantly reduced the amount of labor required to operate this large vessel.
  • Backup Bridge — The Venator Kashyyyk-class has two towers, one on starboard which serves as command information center, and one one port which serves as the flight control server. When the starboard tower is taken out of commission, it's sister tower is designed to assume emergency control over some of the ship's functions.
  • Medical Ops — The Venator Kashyyyk-class has been equipped with a medical bay that is well-stocked and prepared to provide comprehensive service to those onboard.
  • EMP Weaponry The Venator Kashyyyk-class has been equipped with some large and heavy-hitting ion cannons which can cause electrical disturbances, potentially even incapacitating capital ships that seek to do the environmental cruiser harm.

  • Targeting System Jamming — The Venator Kashyyyk-class has been equipped with a erebus jamming array which can be used to interfere with the targeting systems of opposing ships to try and reduce the accuracy of their long-ranged barrages.
  • Focal Shield — Whenever the Venator Kashyyyk-class receives a sustained barrage from a single direction, the shield force multiplier kicks in, and will concentrate the available deflector shield energy to generate a focused, reinforced barrier, capable of withstanding an impressive amount of sustained enemy fire.
  • Triple-Layered Shields — The Venator Kashyyyk-class has been equipped with a powerful triple-layered shield system that was designed and built by the Mon Calamari Shipyards which provides the vessel with a redundant amount of deflector shields to withstand turbulent environments.
  • Multi-Layered Armor
    • Tough Armor — The carbon-nanofilament layer which encases the hull of the Venator Kashyyyk-class allows this ship to endure some of the harshest environments that can be found in the Galaxy. This material can repel some of the lighter weapon systems.
    • Regenerative Armor — The laminanium and durasteel-vitanium layers work together to seal away breaches that form along the main hull of the ship. The regenerative effects of are exceptionally stronger with kinetic-based and physical attacks than with energy-based weaponry due to the presence of vitanium.
    • Ablative Armor - Sandwiched between the tridurium and durasteel-vitanium layers, the thorilide layer and damage reduction armor component provides the vessel with a level of shock absorption, which protects the structural integrity of the ship from heavy enemy fire.
    • EMP Resistance — The extensive use of tridurium throughout the multi-layered armor, alongside the faraday cage components, has insulated the Venator Kashyyyk-class from most phenomena that may cause electrical disturbances. This would also include weapon systems such as ion cannons and magpulse weaponry.
    • Radiation Resistance — The interior sections of the Venator Kashyyyk-class have been lined with agrinium which provides the crew an additional layer of protection from the dangerous effects of radiation that can be encountered when a ship loses its shields.
  • Interdiction Warning — The Venator Kashyyyk-class has been equipped with a gravity well early detection system which allows this vessel to detect an approaching gravity well in hyperspace when traveling along well-established hyperlanes. This technology provides the ship with the option to drop-out of hyperspace early.
  • Very Fast — The Venator Kashyyyk-class is among the faster vessels in its weight bracket. Equipped with twelve advance ion engines, this environmental cruiser can drudge quickly through a turbulent environment, or retreat from an incoming attack.
  • Gulfstream — The Venator Kashyyyk-class was equipped with the gulfstream maneuvering system which uses gravitationally-enhanced gyroscopic stabilizers to increase maneuverability at the expense of speed (Maneuverability: Average to High, Speed: Very High to High)
  • Microjump — This ship has been equipped with a microjump capacitor which allows the vessel to make a minuscule jump through hyperspace. This technology can be used to travel anywhere from 10,000 km to 1-full parsec.
  • Probes — The Venator Kashyyyk-class has received a complement of twenty Starhunt probe droids, which can be launched to investigate nearby planets.
  • Ecosphere
    • Atmospheric Conversion — This technology was designed to transform an entire planet's atmosphere until it reached a desirable composition. The Venator Kashyyyk-class can use the ecosphere to aggressively transform the surrounding area into a breathable and habitable environment.
    • Environmental Defense — The molecular grinders of the ecosphere can be used to remove hazardous pollutants, poisonous gases, and even airborne microorganisms from the air.
    • Radiation Decontamination — Any radiation contamination that's found in the air is removed when processed through the ecosphere.
  • Ion Ring Projector — Located on the ventral portion of the bow is a device that can project a beam which can influence an area's weather. Using the ion ring projector the Venatork-class can improve or worsen the weather conditions that can be found naturally on the planet. The device must be used from a planet's orbit, and can only affect a single hundred kilometre area at a time.
SIGNIFICANT WEAKNESS ( 10 )
  • Exposed Rear — The ion engines of the Venator Kashyyyk-class are exposed and lack any weapon emplacements to deter enemy harassment. This leaves this sensitive part of the ship vulnerable to exploitation. Once half the ship's ion engines have been damaged or destroyed, this ship loses a significant amount of it's speed and maneuverability (Maneuverability: Average to Very Low, Speed: Very High to Average).
  • Exposed Bridge Towers — Protruding from the main hull of the ship are a pair of towers, which includes the starboard tower which served as the command information center, and the port tower which served as the flight control center. The destruction of either of these bridges would cause devastating harm.
  • Shield Force Multiplier Dishes — Located on top of each bridge tower is a rotary dish which serves a conduit for the shield force multiplication system. Damage or destruction to both dishes would knock out the system and reduce the effectiveness of the ship's shields (Defenses: Extreme to Very High).
  • Gravity Well Early Warning Antenna — Protruding from the dorsal section of the Venator Kashyyyk-class, beside each bridge tower, is an alusteel antenna which provides the ship the ability to receive early warning when it’s fast approaching a gravity well, allowing the ship an opportunity to evade capture. A concentrated barrage of turbolaser fire or a well-placed concussive strike could knock out system, denying the Venator Kashyyyk-class this advance system.
  • Dorsal Point Defense — The Venator Kashyyyk-class has a matching pair of point defense turrets every fifty meters along the length of the dorsal section of the ship. Once the enemy starts taking out these handful of turrets out of commission, the entire main hull of the ship becomes susceptible to a bomber run, which could cause serious damage.
  • Motors Control Units— Located on the dorsal section of the Venator Kashyyyk-class, toward the bow-end of the ship, are hangar doors which contain the Ecosphere. Along the two-hinged doors of the hangar bay are a series of motor control units that are made-up mostly alusteel and electrical components, which allow the hangar doors to slowly-swing open. A series of concussive strikes, or well-placed explosives, could damage or destroy these motor control units and prevent the ship from either opening or closing the hangar doors. Similar to the rest of the ship though, these motor control units have been lined with tridurium and are resilient to EMP weaponry.
  • EcosphereWhen the Venator Kashyyyk-class opens the hangar doors located toward the bow-end ship, to activate ecosphere, simultaneously it also exposes the sensitive components and surrounding infrastructure that support this powerful machine. A couple of well-placed concussive strike inside the bow hangar could disable or even destroy the ecosphere. Separated between the hangar which contains the ecosphere, and the hangar which holds the flight deck, is a single alusteel wall. When the ecosphere does explode it causes significant damage to adjacent parts of the ship, including the flight deck (Hangar Space: Very Low to None).
  • Ventral Vulnerability — The ventral section of the Venator Kashyyyk-class completely lacks any weapon emplacements to fend off attacks. Because of this, this vessel is unable to return enemy fire from below, which leaves this ship vulnerable to starfighter harassment and anti-air guns once it's entered a planet's atmosphere.
  • Repulsor Lifts — Located along the ventral section of the Venator Kashyyyk-class is an arrangement of thirty-six repulsor lifts which have a dish-like appearance. These devices allow the cruiser to remain suspended-in-the-air once it's entered the planet's atmosphere. The repulsor lifts allow this vessel to glide across the sky. Once enough of these have been destroyed ( 9 repulsor lifts ), the Venator Kashyyyk-class will begin to slowly descend down from the sky. At that point the ship will need to either leave the planet's atmosphere or find a location to land. When the enemy has managed to destroy half the repulsor lifts, the ship will lose the ability to leave the planet's atmosphere and will descend too quickly to land - it will need to instead find a place to make a devastating crash.
  • Ion Ring Projector Installed beneath the nose of the Venator Kashyyyk-class is a device that can manipulate the weather of an area on a planet by emitting a beam from orbit. A couple of blasts from a laser cannon can fry this weather-manipulating emplacement.
WEAKNESSES ( 16 )
  • Slave Rigged
    • Slicing— Because a significant portion of the Venator Kashyyyk-class's systems have been fully automated, this ship has gained an increased vulnerability to Slicing.
    • Naval Boarding — One downside with having so many systems fully-automated through a slave circuit system is suddenly there's a lot fewer people around. This leaves the Venator Kashyyyk-class more vulnerable to naval boarding and made it easier for people to stowaway onboard.
  • Backup Bridge — When the port bridge tower is forced to take control of the ship because the starboard bridge tower has been lost, some of the important functions they lack, include the ability to communicate with the crew of their own weapon emplacements, and the ability to jam the enemy's communications.
  • Hemisphere Firing Arc The armaments of the Venator Kashyyyk-class are located along the broadsides and the dorsal section of the ship. No weapon emplacements were installed on the ventral section. Because of this fact, when engaged in ship-to-ship combat, the Venator Kashyyyk-class must work to prevent an enemy from getting into a position directly beneath the ship's hull.
  • Light ArmamentsWhile the Venator Kashyyyk-class has been equipped with an impressive array of armaments to counter-starfighters and other smaller craft, this vessel wasn't equipped with the sort of heavy weaponry needed to counterbalance other capital ships. Because of this fact, the Venator Kashyyyk-class frequently requires an escort when entering a combat situation.
  • Broadside Trench — Spanning the width of the Venator Kashyyyk-class is a trench which lacks any weapon emplacements. A starfighter could run the length of the ship and afflict damage with impunity.
  • Erebus Jamming Array
    • Optimal Jamming Range — The the erebus jamming array operates best when the enemy ships are at a far distance. As the enemy draws nearer, the array's effectiveness at misdirecting enemy fire correspondingly decreases.
    • Signal Interference — The erebus jamming array becomes ineffective under certain environmental conditions. When the Venator Kashyyyk-class enters a nebula or similar space phenomena, the surrounding radiation and matter can weaken the array's ability to connect with and mislead enemy targeting systems.
  • Focal Shield
    • Lopsided Shield — When the Venator Kashyyyk-class is receiving a sustained barrage from a single direction, the shield force multiplier will cause deflector shields to concentrate around that spotting, leaving the other areas of the ship minimally shielded.
    • Irregularity Shield Exploitation — The focal shield being generated by the shield force multiplier requires the enemy to sustain a constant barrage. When an opposing ship fires too infrequently, this prevents the shield force multiplier from activating.
    • Multidirectional Shield Exploitation — When the Venator Kashyyyk-class receives an enemy barrage from multiple directions, the shield force multiplier gets scrabbled, and is unable to create a focal shield. This means Starfighters could work in tandem with a capital ship to collapse the focal shield being generated by the shield force multiplier by hitting the armored frigate from multiple angles.
  • Hangar Bays — When the Venator Kashyyyk-class launches smaller craft, the titanium blast doors are wide open, and the only thing separating the hangar from the vacuum of space are magnetic shields. These magnetic shields allow physical objects like shuttles and other support craft to leave the hangar bay, but on the flipside, can also let concussion strikes in once the deflector shields are down.
  • Interdiction WarningThe Venator Kashyyyk-class can only use the Gravity Well Early Warning System when traveling along a well-established hyperlane with millennia of astronomical data to pull from (i.e. canon hyperlanes, see link). This technology can only be used when the ship is traveling to systems that are directly situated along a hyperlane pathway.
  • Gulfstream
    • Gravity Flux — When the Gulfstream Maneuvering System is activated creates a signature that is can be easily detected from a great distances by standard sensor systems.
    • Reduced Speed — When the Gulfstream Maneuvering System is activated, the ship decreases in speed to increase its maneuverability.
  • Defenseless, Probes — The starhunt probe droids the Venator Kashyyyk-class has been complemented with are not equipped with any weaponry and cannot be used for offensive purposes.
DESCRIPTION

Following the collapse of the Core Imperial Confederation, many of their former Venator-class attack cruisers had been slated to be scrapped. Seeing an opportunity, the leadership at the Federal Cooperative would buy up the majority of the attack cruisers and relocate them to their deep space shipyards. There they would begin the process of refitting them.

Because the Venator-class was designed to serve as a battlecarrier, the process of refitting the ship was noticeably easier than work on other well-established designers. There were entire levels and vast areas that were vacant – intended to serve as flight decks and storage space, these areas soon became the canvas for the FedCo engineers’ imaginations.

In total the Federal Cooperative would end-up developing five variants from the Venator-class, which would include the following:

  • Venator Commenor-class Freight Carrier
  • Venator Kashyyyk-class Environmental Cruiser
  • Venator Samaria-class Medical Cruiser
  • Venator Kessel-class Interdictor Cruiser
  • Venator Allanteen-class Attack Cruiser
The Federal Cooperative would begin launching the refitted vessels in mid-860 ABY to sectoral governments across the Galaxy.


Rating Disclaimer — The Kashyyyk-class Environmental Cruiser is currently one point over. I've listed ten weaknesses I considered candidates for a significant weakness to create balance.
