OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Age: 60
  • Force Sensitivity: Force Dead
  • Species: Near-Human (Half Human, Half Umbaran)
  • Appearance: Toloth wears his age well and could easily pass for fifty. He has strong, handsome features, and his gray hair is usually combed back. He wears traditional modest Chaldean garb, as well as sunglasses to protect his sensitive eyesight.
  • Voice: Jeremy Irons

SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Toloth Threepwood
  • Loyalties: Chaldean Potentium
  • Wealth: High; while far from being filthy rich, Toloth is a well-paid political representative. Prior to being elected, he was the headmaster of the Chaldean Academy, a position of considerable prestige.
  • Notable Possessions:
  • Connections:
  • Skills: Toloth is a teacher turned politician, with a natural charisma and a commanding, even intimidating presence. In his youth he was a soldier and a Chaldean Paladin with a reputation for ruthlessness. He fought in the Chaldean Civil War and has the scars to show for it, though injuries he sustained in combat have left him with a limp and significantly hamper his ability to fight.
  • Personality: Toloth is practical, reserved, and intelligent. Once a cold and calculating assassin, after a serious injury put his career as a Paladin to an end, he devoted himself to teaching, eventually becoming the headmaster of the prestigious Chaldean Academy. Today he is a beloved public figure, a mentor and family man who has long served as a pillar of his community. He is cordial to his friends and colleagues and cool to his enemies and rivals, but always maintains an air of respectability. Considering himself a reformed sinner, he proudly governs his life by a set of religion-bound principles he simply refuses to break, no matter what. Consequently, he has a rather high opinion of himself and feels a certain degree of moral superiority, especially compared to those who do not follow the same faith or cultural values as him. In private, he reveals a much less serious side; he has addresses his wife Charisse by the pet name "pooh bear" (though only at home, where no one can hear him) and can be quite a romantic fool where she is concerned. He loves his two children dearly, though they have disappointed him greatly. He and his daughter Ishani have a particularly rough relationship, with the two occasionally not on speaking terms with one another. Recently he became a grandfather, with two young grandchildren whom he dotes upon.
COMBAT INFORMATION
  • Weapon of Choice: His intelligence
  • Combat Function: While he is no stranger to combat, injuries sustained in previous battles have left Toloth physically crippled. He is reliant on his personal guards to protect him. Expect him to act as their commander and strategize.
Strengths:
  • Umbaran Heritage: Thanks to his Umbaran heritage, Toloth's eyes can see into the infrared spectrum.
  • An Ambitious Man: As the former headmaster of the Chaldean Academy, Toloth holds considerable sway within Chaldean society, a fact which allowed him to be elected Senator by a landslide. He is very loyal to his homeworld and seeks to place Chaldea's best interests before all others.
  • Force Dead: When he became a Paladin, Toloth severed himself from the Force, becoming Force Dead. He cannot be directly affected by the Force, and Force Users cannot sense his presence, emotions, or tell if he is lying.
Weaknesses:
  • Don't Let Me Forget My Sunglasses: His eyes are sensitive to bright sudden flashes of light, which will disorient him.
  • Lame Duck: Toloth walks with a limp and his body is permanently damaged by injuries sustained in his youth, leaving him largely useless in combat.
  • Tell Me Of Its Absence: Toloth was born Force sensitive, but in accordance with the ways of the Paladin, he underwent the process of "severing" himself from the Force, becoming Force Dead.

Messala on Toloth Threepwood
Toloth Threepwood was born on Chaldea to an Umbaran father and a Human mother. His family was well off and he had, by all accounts, a happy childhood.

When he was a young man, he enrolled in the Chaldean Academy, a prestigious school meant to train future Mystics. Toloth dreamed of becoming a Mystic, seeing it as a higher calling to religious devotion, roughly akin to joining the priesthood. Also attending the Academy was Messala, a hideously deformed former slave, and his teenaged "son" Errol, both of whom had emigrated to Chaldea. Toloth and Messala became friends due to sharing many of the same classes and overlapping interests in philosophy and the history of the Force; Toloth treated Messala fairly despite his appearance and status as an outsider, believing he could make something of himself as both a Mystic and a citizen of Chaldea. As time passed, their friendship devolved into a not-so-friendly rivalry. This competition started over a woman they both loved in their own ways: Persis Solusar, a blind seeress tortured by visions. While Toloth pitied Persis and encouraged her to cut herself off from the Force to escape the nightmares, Messala was in love with Persis and convinced her visions were a gift meant to help prevent catastrophe.

This conflict came a head when Errol and Messala joined the Children of Vergere, a terrorist group corrupted by the teachings found on a holocron in the Academy's vaults. The Children bombed the Academy's west wing, killing several people in the process. Because Messala had warned Persis not to be there, she and Toloth determined his involvement and both turned against him.

Toloth fought on the side of the Potentium during the Civil War which wracked his homeworld. Like so many of his countrymen, he emerged from the conflict with a passionate zeal and devotion to their cause. Becoming one of the first official Paladins, he cut himself off from the Force and helped to hunt down and remove—or kill—all remaining Force Users from the planet. In a fight with a Dark Sider, he was badly injured, leaving him with a limp and various other wounds which would prevent him from further fighting. The experience was eye-opening for him, and convinced him that the pacifism of his ancestors was the true and proper way to live.

Finishing up his education, Toloth became a teacher at the Academy he had graduated from. Over many years he rose through the ranks, eventually becoming headmaster. During this period, he would marry Charisse Guerre and have two children, a daughter and a son. By all accounts, he is a pillar of the community, an upright individual who has done more than his fair share of work to better the lives of his people. However, he did suffer a recent scandal: the sudden disappearance of his teenage daughter Ishani, who was later found to have run away to join a short-lived Sith faction. A year after her disappearance, Ishani returned home, pregnant and repentant, and after giving birth to twins she began training as a Mystic. Her family was relieved to have her home and quite forgiving of her circumstances, though Toloth made his disappointment in her choices clear.

A short time later, Chaldea joined the Galactic Alliance following a vote among their leaders. The decision was made mainly out of fear of the Brotherhood of the Maw. An election was held to decide who would be Chaldea's representative in the Galactic Senate—and while Toloth planned to run, a strange twist of events would prevent him from announcing his candidacy. Thanks to the political machinations of none other than Persis Solusar, who had experienced a vision of the future in which she believed Toloth drove Chaldea to ruin, Ishani had registered herself as a candidate. Under Chaldean law, close relatives cannot compete for political office, thus barring Toloth from entering the race. Against all odds, Ishani wound up winning (though rumors persist that the election was rigged) and became the Senator of Chaldea.

The resulting strain on Toloth's relationship with his daughter had a profound effect not only on the family, but it also affected their reputation as well. Ishani was seen as a political pawn of the Chaldean Mystics, exacerbating internal tensions and heating up the long-standing power struggle already simmering within the Chaldean Potentium. However, Ishani's term as senator would be suddenly cut short after just two years in power with her sudden resignation from office. The resulting power vacuum threw the Chaldean government into turmoil, as they rushed to find a suitable replacement. Toloth, by then in his sixtieth year, immediately stepped up to the plate, and was elected by a landslide, becoming the new senator.
