It’s a beautiful day in the kingdom.
Lira is helping Buster make his rounds of all of his friends in Heavenheim (and getting treats as well as scratches).
Connel is standing in front of the statue of his father, Caltin just shaking his head. Someone in town had called him something. Not “Knight Vanagor”, not “Conservator”, not “Master Jedi”... no the little girl called him “Master Vanagor”. Him. He looked around as if looking for someone else. It was an innocent thing on her part, make no mistake, but it bothered him. Something he’d have to look the old man over and bring up.
Right now.
You know? For a dead guy… you still know how to cause problems. He exhaled. I don’t know what else you want from me. There was no bitterness in his voice, just exhaustion. He thought having been lucky to find Lira would ease things but they didn’t, they only made things worse. He’s exhausted, from years of isolation, crawling through the proverbial mud, dealing with the pain, the legacy dumped on him.
I spent years trying to figure out what you'd do… Turns out that's a terrible way to live. Standing there quietly as if about to admit the truth. Not a heroic truth, a real one. I don't know if I'm doing any of this right.
He looked down. Lira deserves better… The students deserve better… The Jedi deserve better… Sometimes I think they all got stuck with me because you weren't around. I wasn’t enough…
Then there it was…
You always did overthink everything.
The Force shifted and a familiar presence sat on the pedestal of the statue of himself. Caltin just sat there looking at him with a smirk as if to say “This again?” You’ve spent years trying to be my son. Allow me to let you in on a secret only to you. You always were.
Then Connel went on to tell him how he felt when someone called him “Master Vanagor” and everything started to come together. Connel. The Ghost of his Father looked at him. Do you know what the difference is between a Knight and a Master?
