SHII-CHO, the DETERMINATION FORM
Form I, also known as the Way of the Sarlacc, is the rudimentary lightsaber form that every aspiring Jedi is taught from a young age, and Thurion was no different. He trained extensively as a way to process the grief of losing his brother, finding peace in the repetitive motions and discipline of mind required to achieve the finesse of lightsaber combat. He underwent training in the hallowed halls of the Jedi temples of Tython and Coruscant in the waning days of the Galactic Republic.
SORESU, the RESILIENCE FORM
Form III, also known as the Way of the Mynock, is wholly centered around defense and deflection with minimal physical effort. Having left the Order alongside his master as part of a group of disillusioned Jedi, the 10-year-old Thurion was trained in Form III out of concern for his safety now that they were on their own. His master would not live to see the results of her son's training.
SHIEN/DJEM SO, the PERSEVERENCE FORM
Form V, also known as the Way of the Krayt Dragon, contains two variants of the same concept. While Shien focuses on the blocking and redirecting of blaster bolts, Djem So focuses on melee counterattacks. While physically demanding, the rapidly growing teenaged Thurion, pent up with emotion and fresh grief, let out his aggressions in adopting this form with its powerful strikes and intimidating stance, seeing before him the murderer of his adoptive mother. It has since become his favoured form, his towering height and immense strength lending themselves to overpowering his opponent in swift fashion. He is considered one of the galaxy's paragons of the form.
MASTERED FORCE TECHNIQUES:
TELEKINESIS
A ubiquitous ability among practitioners of the Force, it allows one to manipulate physical matter by moving, pulling, pushing, etc. Thurion is a master of telekinesis, able to manipulate objects in precise motions or with tremendous force with but a thought. More notably, he can unleash explosive shockwaves capable of damaging or potentially destroy anything in its path.
TELEPATHY
Another widely-used power is the ability to telepathically communicate with other individuals, sometimes over vast distances. If sufficiently submerged in the Force, Thurion has been known to telepathically deliver messages across star systems, and has even succeeded in piercing the indomitable mind of Darth Carnifex himself at one point, communicating with his arch-nemesis whilst in deep meditation.
AFFECT MIND
Commonly referred to as Mind Trick, it allows a practitioner to persuade the lesser-willed through the power of suggestion. While well-versed in its use, Thurion rarely relies on the manipulation of the mind out of moral concerns, believing it to be a dishonourable method of effectively bending others to another's will, and only uses it to ensure a peaceful resolution when nothing else will.
SENSE FORCE
A commonly used ability to sense the magnitude of Force energy in an area or sense other Force-sensitive beings, whether light or dark. A skilled practitioner may also discern another's alignment, or use it to mask their own presence in order to blend in or avoid detection. Thurion, if sufficiently submerged in the Force, is capable of sensing and locating a specific person anywhere in the galaxy provided they do not mask their presence. He can also sense members of his family at all times, regardless of distance.
LIFE DETECTION
Similar to Sense Force, this ability allows one to detect other lifeforms in a targeted area, near or far, and can also determine whether they are friend or foe. Thurion relies on it extensively to locate civilians in need of rescue, avoid enemy patrols, prevent assassination attempts, and foil ambushes.
PSYCHOMETRY
Also known as Telemetry, this technique grants the ability to pick up impressions and traces of information by simply touching an object. The user can then view events as if they were there, and experience the sights, sounds, and feelings both emotional and physical that the wielder of the object experienced. Thurion occasionally uses it to track down high-value targets, and sometimes to relive his old memories.
FORCE HEALING
The power to accelerate the natural healing processes of oneself or in others, Thurion was trained in its use by one of the greatest healers of his age, Teynara Jeralyr. He once used this ability to save his long-lost father from certain death, as well as countless others over the years and decades. He's not only able to regenerate tissue, knit bones, and close wounds, but also restore lost faith and mend broken souls.
FORCE LIGHT
An ability unique to followers of Ashla, Force Light unleashes a blast of light bright and pure enough to burn away darkness. It can be used either offensively to drive away, cause physical harm, or weaken a darksider's connection to the Force, or it can be used to purge corruption in a location or in a person. In the hands of a master the likes of Thurion, it can prove a most effective tool.
WALL of LIGHT
An advanced version of Force Light, a Wall of Light manifests as an immense barrier capable of containing or outright purge the power of the dark side from a location, or even sever a darksider's connection to the Force. Thurion has employed this powerful ability more than once, typically in tandem with his wife Coci as to summon a wall of light is extremely difficult and energy-consuming.
ALTER ENVIRONMENT
A technique that focuses on manipulating nature, climate, and weather, a master practitioner could harness wind into vast hurricanes, raise or lower temperatures to scolding hot or freezing cold, or create fog thick enough to protect the user from attacks. Thurion combines his mastery of the Force with brute strength to crush metal, smash through walls, and even rend the very earth asunder.
WINTERWALK
Unique to Thurion, this power allows him to traverse the galaxy in mere moments. When the Wellspring of Life came under threat of being corrupted, Thurion was one of three powerful Jedi summoned to defend it. Each was changed by the event, with Thurion being bestowed this ability that he might mete out justice wherever he's needed. Initially beholden to its beck and call, he's since mastered the ability and can even bring others with him. A mist rolls in, and upon entering he finds himself in an ethereal snow-laden forest outside of time and space. There dwells spirits of innocents slain, and upon reaching the end of the path he steps out into realspace.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
GENTLEST of GIANTS, TRUEST of HEARTS
Given his immense size and strength, it is easy to feel intimidated by his presence. His physical size, however, is only outmatched by the size of his enormous heart and generous nature, ever striving to uplift others and spread joy wherever he goes. Even in his darkest hours, he will comfort others, as he believes acts of kindness are the greatest weapon one can wield against any darkness.
DEFIER of the DARK, LIGHT of the RADIANT SUN
Through his many bouts with servants of darkness, be they followers of Bogan, horrific monstrosities, or demons of ancient origin, the Heavenshield stands defiant against all threats with the might of mountains and an unshakable will. To stand beside him on the battlefield is to feel invincible, capable of taking on anything. To stand against him is to crumble into dust, their souls banished by his light.
The LION KING, GOLDEN and RESPLENDENT
He is the Lion King, sovereign ruler of Midvinter and head of House Heavenshield. His leadership skills are the stuff of legend, and his statesmanship is without equal. Earning his people's love and loyalty through honourable deeds and decisive action, he is a paragon of leading by example. There is no end to his accolades; each one earned through sacrifice and great toil.
WALKER of WINTERS, the DARK ANGEL
As his blood stained the hallowed grounds of the Wellspring of Life during the fateful clash that threatened all living things, Thurion was named Justice of the Force - imbued by the souls of the unjustly slain with the power to appear where he is needed to dispense justice to the vilest of villains and desecrators of the dead. When called, the Dark Angel answers with a vengeance.
PATRIARCH of the LION'S PRIDE, FATHER of ALL
A loving husband and father-of-many, arguably Thurion's greatest strength and weakness comes from his tight-knit family. It is affectionately said his foremost skills lie not with the sword or the sceptre but with the stroller, as evidenced by his many descendants, all of whom revere the King of the Pride.
The HORNS of BATTLE SOUND, and the LION ANSWERS
Now settled on Midvinter after many years of galactic service, Thurion devotes his time to caring for his family, leading his people, and safeguarding his homeworld. Still, whenever the Galaxy needs him, he will answer, arriving like a champion of old summoned from the mists of legend.
CODE of CHIVALRY, a RELIC of the OLD WORLD
Considered an outdated concept by many, this one adheres to the forgotten ideals of gallantry, honour, generosity, and courtesy. Generally soft-spoken towards women and boisterous towards men, his ways are those of ancient nobility long absent from the greater galaxy.
DEFENDER of the WEAK, CHAMPION of the SMALL
Born an orphan forced to live on the street, Thurion holds a special fondness for unfortunate souls and children of all ages and will go to any lengths to defend them. He has a history of adopting the lost and the lonely into his steadily growing family, loving and caring for them as if his own flesh and blood.
ASPECT of DESMIUS, an ACCURSED GIFT
Marked by a ritual performed during the Imperial Siege of Coruscant where Thurion fought to hold the steps of the Grand Jedi Temple, he was faced with the ghosts of the countless perished by his own hand. While traumatised by the event, the Lion was able to overcome and accept this dreadful aspect of his existence, and as a result has gained the ability to see the truth when faced with illusions or trickery of the mind.
HEAVY of HEART, DROWNING in a SEA of SORROWS
From his first breath, Thurion has been cursed to watch loved ones wither and die around him. His mother and father, his brother, the woman who raised him, as well as the countless friends and companions of his youth, are all gone, leaving him with only bittersweet memories. None of these, however, rank above losing the love of his life after five decades of marriage. Though her ultimate fate remains unknown, her husband will wait an eternity for her return.
BATTLE-HARDENED VETERAN of a THOUSAND WARS
A peerless warrior and a master tactician, the Lion has seen more war and death than most living souls. Despite his martial mind being sharpened to perfection after many decades, every horrific violent act leaves its scars. There are times when the trauma becomes unbearable, threatening to cause permanent harm to his psyche. The soothing presence of his beloved Coci would prevent the nightmares from overtaking him, but she has been missing for many years.
ONLY in DEATH DOES DUTY END
Despite many attempts at a life of peace, fate has seen fit to foil him at every turn with new duties upon his shoulders, each more demanding than the last. As the ruler of an entire world, Thurion's strong sense of duty prevents him from seeking that increasingly elusive peace he's sought all his life. He takes solace in the knowledge that, when his time has finally come, he'll be reunited with those he's lost along the way.
