The Tree of Life (RR and Lightside/Neutral Factions)

“Do I, drink”, the Alderaani prince asked [member="Helly Reyne"] . Between the smell of alcohol and the social ferocity of the young woman, Gar’ith was stunned. Asking rhetorical questions was what he was let with as he was flanked by another young lady introducing herself.

“Pleasure to met you as well Minister Tha’ga”, Gar’ith said after [member="Tha'ga Temi"] had done her greetings. He could smell the scent of a drink on Tha’ga as well. He knew the scent but did not partake very often.

Gar’ith did glance over Tha’ga’s shoulder for a moment. There was [member="Faith Organa"] . ‘I sense Theo’, he sent a quick telepathic message to Faith.

“The question”, he began trying to continue polite conversation answering the lady Reyne. “Sometimes on social occasions I do partake. Lady Reyne, if I was to partake tonight what would you and Minister Temi recommend?”

"Nice to meet you as well!" said Helly as [member="Tha'ga Temi"] introduced herself to the both of them. "You know, it may not seem like it, but I've always been quite appreciative of the fashions from around the galaxy. You don't even wanna see the chaos I've got going on in my wardrobe in the cruiser, I'd feel bad for the thief who tries to steal something important from in there, like finding a needle in a haystack."

She turned back to [member="Garith Organa"] as he wondered what would be an appropriate drink. As much as she wanted to say just try them all, she had kept at least a modicum of tact in her current state. "Want a sip of what I've got?" she asked, holding out her glass in front of the prince. "Probably won't be too helpful 'cause I have no idea what it is, but at least it'll get ya started... And I'd recommend anything that tastes good. Whole lotta types of wine for that. You could totally afford some of the really swanky ones, too."

It appeared she had hit a sore spot with her joke. Up to that point, she assumed that everything was fine between Josh and his wife, taking her to be a...homebody like he was. That didn't seem to be the case, if his feelings were anything to go by.

"Josh, relax," she said, patting him on the shoulder. "They're good people. I've had the pleasure of operating with several of them as of late. Everyone that gave you grief within the Galactic Republic is dead or gone."

By now they had made it to the area designated for the gala. The place was packed, with representatives from various factions both large and small. Some she recognized, like the Organas and the Fel Imperials. She would definitely make the rounds to meet with every delegation, but first, she wanted to meet someone from the Republic Remnant. She had come across their Jedi and their soldiers, but never one of their Senators or government officials. That was the whole appeal to her about the RR, a functioning Senate, a representative democracy.

[member="Josh DragonsFlame"] [member="Allyson Locke"] [member="Transil Gantar"]

"I'm okay" He spoke softly, looking her in the eyes with an expression, a look in his eyes that was... Well... That. Soft. Reserved. He didn't seem to have that confidence in his eyes anymore. Whether it was the joke, or the environment they were in, something had taken that away. "I know, I know" He admitted in almost a whisper. "I'm just... Agh... Jyo, I'm not the man I used to be" Josh would finally admit. It wasn't something he liked to admit but it was there, he'd just never said it aloud. "I'm still getting used to... Well, a lot of the aspects of my old life again. And still making strides to trust again."

He took a deep breath, before gingerly taking her hands.

"Just... Thank you for sticking by me on this. I know I'm probably not being the best... +1, being all jittery and all" Josh would speak, his expression slipping into a small smile. "I'll do my best, promise."

He squeezed her hands a moment before letting go, letting out a deep exhale as he would steel himself. The two would make their way into the gala, and a curious eye glanced around, at people he knew, and others he didn't know.

A'Runda seemed a little interested in her story about her rather old ship and how it was made. But he seemed a little hesitant to want to ask for her help. He surly wasn't going to originally. But she did sound correct in that if put in the effort it could be space worthy. "Hmm..." the Tusken thought over what parts he needed for the life support.

"Well, I am concerned with a part the helps stabilize the pressure when in space. Personally I don't exactly know what it does, but a while ago when I bought it the dealer pointed out this flaw to me. I don't imagine 'ugly' ship for the most part even have life support." He was probably right about that. Since mechanics weren't his specialty he wasn't quite sure what the name of it was. A'Runda would point it out to her and explain it the best he could to Marina.

"So if I can manage to get that fixed or replaced I won't need to worry about the va-va...vaccume, yeah that's the word. The vaccume of space." It seemed as if the Tusken was still working on his galactic basic. Since Tusken was his first language, and he doubted that they had words like that. Since there was no real need for them in that kind of tribal society. "Uh, thank you Miss Devoe, I'm glad get past that rough beginning." He said with a smile behind his mask.

Tipping over the empty shot glass Allyson sighed and shook her head. She couldn’t spend this entire gala just drinking. It would be just like every other time she went to something like this. Yawning, she turned her back onto the bar and waved off the bartender who had went to refill the shot glass. There was no need for it and she exhaled softly feeling the warmth of liquid courage.

Reaching into her pocket she pulled out a small mint and popped it into her mouth. The last thing she needed was people smelling the caramel of the whiskey on her breath. Arms folded behind her back as she moved through the crowds nodding and saying hi to those she knew. She had one person she wanted to speak with and another she wished to get to know. She walked up as Josh finished talking for a moment with Jyoti. A smile spread across her face as she stepped in as they entered the gala properly.

“Hello General, you clean up quite nice. Didn’t recognize you.” Allyson smiled at Jyoti, then glanced at Josh. “Master Dragonsflame. I’ve heard some amazing things about you. I’m Lieutenant Commander Allyson Locke.” Her hand came from behind her and outstretched towards the Jedi Master. “Pleasure to meet you! You guys enjoying the gala so far?”

Not a flight attendant... just a risk.
"Yea...about that...sigh..
Well, I didn't get too much interactions with non-humans growing up and especially ..uhm...Tuskens...ahem...I mean actually the whole mask thing. " hmm, somehow it was coming out a bit wrong.

"Not against Tunskens or any non-humans like that. Just that I have this hidden fear of masks..helmets mostly, that cover the faces'all. I think it stems from the Imperials... or at least something that has worked itself into my subconscious." She had to explain why she didn't like masks over faces.

"It's like almost a thousand years since the Imperials destroyed my ancestral home of Alderaan. The original Alderaan, rather. New Alderaan is for the most part the only Alderaan I really know.
I'm guessing somehow it has embedded itself into my subconscious...the mask thing. I mean, well, the Imperial trooper helmets. They kind of symbolize the Empire pretty much. I think that is it." Marina started realizing she was sadly reminiscing her past and was feeling sad about it.
But she had to explain as to why she got startled..it was almost like instinct....or she had a bad case of OCD.

"Bah...sorry. I didn't mean to start rambling." yes, she could do that more often than not.

"Anywho, I could take a look and send my droid, TK a pic...or I can just call him over down to this level and have him scan it or something. I'm sure he could quickly look up the original blueprints for it..or even make a better replacement for it. ...with the parts printer of course..lol He doesn't have hands like we do."

"Let me see what he thinks' is best..." Marina raised her finger for A'Runda to give her a moment.

"TK?..you awake?" She spoke into her wrist crono.

What she got was quite a whistle and beep..the sort of beep that certainly indicated the droid was concerned.

"Oh?... you tracking me?" She asked, as her droid informed her she was way off course from the gala. He assumed she was calling him for directions and started to give them to her as to getting to the gala from her location

"Er, no I 'm not lost....No.
No, never mind as to why I'm 2 levels below where I should be. And-...and I don't need to be anyplace but where I ... ahem...want to be." She was apparently in some sort of argument with her droid, making her step a bit away from A'Rumba.

" The queen?
GASP!..the queen!...oh yes, I forgot about Queen [member="Faith Organa"]...." Yikes! In her effort to avoid running into Theo, she had not thought about her place in attending to her queen.

"Shoot...Ok, Ok...yea, I'll get back on over there...sheesh!." She had all but forgotten as to why she were here at the Tree of Life station.

"Oh wait..the reason I called. Ahem" She cleared her throat. "I need you to make a few parts for a life support system.-" She was saying before her droid beeped in.

"What?!..
..er, No the station is fine. I met a new friend who's ship-" Again she didn't get to finish before the droid beeped in again.

"TK?!...enough...now cut it out.
Don't go embarrassing me. It's what I do...I help people. Now track on over to my location and take a look at what needs to ...uhm...be looked at." Marina closed off comm with her droid and walked back over to A'Rumba with a smile.

"No problem..the little tinker was ecstatic on coming over and giving you a hand."

A'Runda

There was a lot to unpack from Josh's reply, but she hadn't come to the gala to play marriage counselor, so she tried to dance around the serious topic for now.

"It's fine, though if you disappoint me, be wary of standing near any trash chutes."

She grinned, but from her nonchalant tone, it wasn't exactly clear if she was joking or not. It was fun to keep him guessing and get his mind off domestic issues for a time.

Josh seemed now seem sorted, so she gently led him deeper into the crowd on her search for one of their Republic hosts. However, she didn't make it past a few steps before she was intercepted by Allyson. She was still smiling from earlier, but now it was slight. Allyson had started off by addressing her as 'General' mockingly - which the Corellian knew she hated.

"And I hardly recognize you," she replied, giving her the once-over. "Looking quite the soldier tonight, Allyson."

She stressed the last word as her silver eyes locked onto Allyson's, then she looked past the brunette to either side.

"No Kaili tonight?"

[member="Josh DragonsFlame"] [member="Allyson Locke"] [member="Transil Gantar"]

Nodding, Allyson looked down at the dress uniform and shrugged. “It happens from time to time Jyoti. I do follow uniform standards. Surprising, I know.” Allyson was never one to follow much of the rules, but to avoid giving people she liked she did her best to follow them for the most part. From the tone with her name, Allyson figured she should have been a bit less playful in her opening. She’ll fix that later.

Jyoti poked a sore subject with the Corellian, but she figured she deserved it. Looking around her, she sighed and shook her head. The smile she had fading quickly. “No, Kaili. Just like the last time…no Kaili and probably the next time, no Kaili.” Feeling awkward now, the Corellian rubbed the back of her neck trying to avoid the sharp collar her uniform had. “Haven’t heard much from her, so tonight I came alone. Kind of tired of missing out on these things.”

Allyson forced the smile back on her face as she tried to remain happy for the most part. Crossing her arms, she shrugged. “How have you been? Seems like I see less of you now a days. You look good.”

[member="Jyoti Nooran"] [member="Josh DragonsFlame"]

To be fair, his issues didn't seem to have anything to do with his marriage whatsoever. He had spent a long time in a more quiet state of life, away from these sorts of gatherings where you had to walk on eggshells and be careful not to piss off powerful people. This being a Republic thing made it even worse. He was nervous, he was jittery. He wanted to be here, yes, mostly for Jyoti but he did want to get back to doing what he used to do. He wanted to be an asset to the SJO in all accords he could. And gatherings, negotiations, making allies, getting to know others... It was part of the job, he knew. It just wasn't one he was used to anymore, and his level of trust in others had been a slow job of recovering for a long time.

Still, her jest got a smile out of him. That was how she wanted to play? Well, two could play that game.

"Fine" He spoke as he would lean in to whisper into her ear. "I'll be the best +1 you ever had" He teased, almost in a sort of flirtation into her ear before they moved on. When he looked away from her, his expression was one thing, and it was absolute mischief. In that moment he had returned to his confident self, like the flick of a switch. He looked as though nothing had ever been wrong at all.

The pair would meet with [member="Allyson Locke"] who he didn't know, but had heard of by reputation. The two appeared to know one another, and he would let them speak for a moment before he would respond when she introduced herself to him.

"Please, just call me Josh" He would respond as he would take her hand to shake. A firm grip but still quite gentle considering the size of his hands. "It's a pleasure, Lieutenant Commander Locke."

At her question about whether they'd been enjoying the Gala though, mischief reared it's head. He would gingerly release her hand before stepping back beside Jyoti. And when he did, he would gently wrap an arm around her waist and gingerly pull her close to him, without looking at Jyoti. "Of course! We're having an amazing time, Lieutenant Commander. Jyoti has just been an absolutely amazing date, I am blissfully blessed to have her here with me tonight. She's truly wonderful, isn't she?" He would respond vibrantly and with energy he didn't have during their talk before, after a moment looking toward Jyoti. He kept a straight face here, but there was a glint of mischief in his eyes when he looked at her. He wasn't keeping secret he was getting her back for the trash compactor comment.

"So, a General, huh Jyo?"

He did feel bad for Allyson though, he'd heard the remarks about who was apparently supposed to be her date. Considering his own... Circumstances, he could probably emphasize. But as he didn't know the full details, he didn't speak on the topic.

"Ruuria," he said, contemplating the name.

He wasn't sure he had ever heard of the world, but that wasn't surprising. There were a myriad of world's out there; more than could be counted. Knowing all of them was a statistical improbability, though he did know a fair few of them. Hers was not one of those. And listening to what she said made him have zero desire to ever visit there, though he was curious about it all the same.

He could see a few others approaching, one of whom he recognized as a general of the Silver Jedi. She and her escort were intercepted by another woman, but he lifted a hand to beckon them over all the same. After all, Toreka was also of the Silver Jedi.

"Don't take this as criticism, but I think what you are really doing is hiding. It might help you to avoid stares, but it's hard to get to know someone hidden behind a mask. It is also impossible to get past the things that burden us when we hide behind a mask, because the mask itself is always a subtle reminder of that which burdens us. You needn't take my word as gospel truth, of course, but if you are a part of the Silver Jedi then you have a great many friends that can help you get past the pain of your past."

He was talking a lot again, which he was aware meant he was in danger, but it was necessary and not of the frivolous kind. Not to him, at least. Granted his motivations we're slightly selfish as he wanted to see what was beneath the mask, but he did also want to help her. Not all Darksiders were evil, after all. For the most part he still followed the Jedi code despite not being a Jedi. Which reminded him he was still hiding his presence so he didn't get mauled by all the lightsiders present.

Going silent and still for a moment, Toreka's eyes narrowed behind the mask, feeling her heart stiffening to near standstill. The jagged fangs lining her otherwise humanoid mouth would have been bared if not for her helm, and the talons at the ends of her fingers would have been at the ready if not for her gauntlets. [member="Transil Gantar"] wasn't a large man, but there was still plenty of meat to be had on his bones. She wondered for a moment what he might look like if she were to relieve him of every last inch of his life-sustaining food. There was no part of a creature more honest than its skeleton.

"You say I hide," she finally said, nearly in whisper by then. "I say you don't want to find me."

Without another word, she abruptly took her leave, feeling her senses slowly returning to her as well as her heartbeat. She needed to feast as her body was telling her, but she needed privacy for that to happen. Privacy and plenty of meat.

Tha'ga Temi

Minister of External Affairs for Hapes
Helly offered her drink to the Prince. “I’m sure what she has will get you started,” reassured Tha’ga. “But if not. Well, I’m not much of a drinker but perhaps a Rummy Tonic? Although I’ve heard Cassandran choholl is very good. Should we all try a shot of that?”

The Hapan surprised even herself with the suggestion, but then again, she was having fun, and especially after all of the turmoil that had gone on recently at the palace, why yes, it would be nice to cut loose a bit tonight.

“Prince Organa, please tell me about the events that happened on Alderaan,” suggested Tha’ga. “I’ve been told that the planet was ransacked by the Sith Empire, and I do fear for your people. How are they recovering?”

[member="Garith Organa"] [member="Helly Reyne"]

While their eyes locked for the briefest of moments its was enough to leave her with one word, Theo. She began scanning around the room Theo was here? Could it be after all this time, after all the time her father had looked was he really here now.

Hesitant steps she took as she studied each face, did he look the same? Was he alright? What had happened? She felt her heart being faster as she walked. She could almost faint from the anticipation of it. Theo.

She tried at this moment to do something she had not done since he disappeared. She called out to him

THEO??

Would he answer? Or was it just wishful thinking on their parts to think he was near.

[member="Garith Organa"]

[member="Faith Organa"] [member="Tha'ga Temi"] [member="Helly Reyne"]

Several emotions were visible upon Garith’s face as a sip of a drink was offered. Surprises being one of them, and there might have been some confusion. He was still enjoying himself though. So Garith took a sip while the discussion continued.

His face continued to visible show his emotions as he was a very honest man and had no intention of hiding anything from these two ladies. It was sweet. It had none of the bitterness his father’s choice of drink had. It was a pleasant surprise Garith did not mind.

He did notice faith’s reaction, the look she gave while looking around the gala.

“I don’t recall ever having Cassandran Choholl”, he answered truthfully.

Garith motioned with his body in the direction of the bar. “We could have a shot or two if both of you desire”, he was ready to walk over there.

“As for the recent attack on Alderaan? I was at the Adleraan Jedi temple when we were attacked. I could fill you in while we have a drink.”

A'Runda nodded, "Uh, well I guess you should know that I'm not a Tusken, at least not physically. I'm a human, I was just adopted into a clan when I was very little. The garb covering me in head to toe is more just a cultural thing for me, it's what I've been raised to believe in. That it was offensive to show skin in public, expect for certain occasions." He explained to her, giving a bit of a lesson on Tusken society.

"My clan spoke of a masked demon in black that wiped out a whole clan, wielding a crimson blade. Later I found out that they were some imperial Sith a log time ago. So I feel like I can understand what you mean." He said, sharing some of his people's stories. Knowing what it's like to have a rough history. "So you don't really need to apologies."

Then he listened to her talk over the comms with a droid of her. A'Runda couldn't help but laugh just a little from it. He couldn't understand droid speak, so this would be interesting to have a droids help with fixing his life support systems. "Thank you once again Miss DeVoe. I apologies if me and my old ship got you side tracked some. I'm sure your droid and I will be able to get me craft's life support functional again. If you have business with a queen I wouldn't want to be what got in the way." The Tusken explained to her.

"Is this absolutely necessary?" Jaius nearly groaned out in frustration.

"Standard procedure, sir. For everyone's safety."

The elderly Alliance executive trudged gloomily back towards the passenger bay, leaving the pilots of the Shadow-class transport in peace to finish their post-flight checks and cursing quietly to himself about overbearing regulations. He was Chief of State of the Galactic Alliance Triumvirate, an extraordinarily influential state official, and yet somehow he simply couldn't manage to arrange transportation that could deliver him where he needed to go in a timely manner. Chief Sovv tried to calm down, reminding himself that it wasn't the fault of these young junior officers that he was running late.

It was one of the reasons behind this very gathering, just how busy things had been for him and the rest of the Alliance only a few short months into his term. Generally the first weeks after an election were spent appointing a team and consolidating influence, preparation to pursue the policies his campaign had been based on. Instead sector wide humanitarian crises warranted his near constant attention, for just when their efforts to restore Thyferra had become routine, Sith assaults first on Alderaan and then Corellia had further disrupted his agenda by demanding personal oversight.

"I'll never get used to the sight of that," he commented to his escort when they were finally allowed to disembark, and they caught their first glimpse of a traditional Republic starbird. Sullust had been with the Alliance since its beginning, and Jaius was so used to thinking of their version that he had all but forgotten the subtle ways in which it had been redesigned from the glory days of the Galactic Republic.

The Alliance Guardsmen who served as his personal escort were also young, and Chief Sovv realized to his dismay that their homeland's precursor state was in all likelihood but a dim memory for these agents. They had begrudgingly handed over their service weapons to station security as the Sullustan had warned them they must, but he knew that they would not allow themselves to lose sight of him for even a moment until they were safely back in Alliance space. Before his election, Jaius had spent nearly a year as a political prisoner in First Order custody.

"Ah, I see Her Majesty has already arrived," he nodded in approval, noting a transport bearing the sigil of Alderaan's royal house, "At least we won't be surrounded by strange Wild Space bureaucrats all evening."

Marina DeVoe

Not a flight attendant... just a risk.
"Oh wow... you just like blew my mind..." She certainly were taken back, discovering he was a human.

Marina hadn't really known what race they were, as there was little on the culture, let alone their biology. The galaxy simply had little interest in primitive indigenous species and cultures for what ever reason. As thus, little was really known other than what little was reported by individuals that came across them.
But one urban legend was that Tuskens were for the most part raiders and were not known to take on other species within their clans.
Well, so much for that.

"You're human?...like...human." Marina pointed to herself...then, " ...well....like a male...like that guy over there looking at us?" Again she pointed, but to a man in overalls in the next bay who suddenly found himself being stared at by Marina and A'Runda. He quickly went back to what ever he was there to do on his own ship.

Sure enough, A'Runda confirmed it.
This made Marina take a step back. Not out of fear bu to take a better overall look as to envision a human form under the desert garbs.
"So...you were raised by the Sand people as one of their own?...
That's like...amazing!
I mean, there isn't much insight as to their culture really. I mean, not directly." She was fascinated.

Here was a living prodigy that upturned all that the galaxy had assumed of the Tusken Clans and cultures. No one had ever gone inside and experienced day to day clan life, not to mention family structure of the sand people on Tatooine.
A'Runda, as Marina came to realize; could well be the missing link in getting to know and understand these indigenous desert people of Tatooine. And who better to meet A'Runda than her queen [member="Faith Organa"]?
A'Runda could for the better part be a spokesperson...a representative of the Tusken people on Tatooine.

All this was rushing through her head like a revelation...causing her to momentarily seem dumbfounded. But it was like a flood gate opening up and she was for the most part thinking of all the possibilities that never before had ever been attempted or accomplished. At least to those in the Galaxy that cared. And for sure, Alderaan cared.

Be de beep be... Her droid startled her as she stood there in front of A'Runda. He had come down as she requested to look over and evaluate the ship's life support system.

"Oh my....
Oh yes...yes, of course TK.." She replied to her droid. For a moment, she had forgotten she had called it down from her ship.

"Uhm.... A'Runda...if you won't mind; TK here could take a look...maybe scan what parts need replacement and maybe he can replicate them on my ship's 3-D parts printer.
In the mean time.... would you be interested in going to this gala thing?" She then asked.

It would be like feeding two birds with one feeder. A'Runda had been curious about the gala and TK could maybe make him new parts while he accompanied her back to the gala.

"Hmm, do you now?" she asked, looking at the bright red bloodstripes stitched onto the side of her uniform.

Allyson deflated at the mention of Kaili, but she had expected such a response to her subtle jab.

"Thank you. It's back to field work for me, so I'm not much of a temple body these days, I'm sorry. There's always a place for you within the Shadows, if you'd like to see more of me."

Josh laid it on thick in his appraisal of her so far, practically singing her praises. She had to struggle to hold back a snort.

"You're just too kind," she said, giving him another pat on the shoulder. "Shmi is so lucky to have you."

She continued walking, expecting everyone to follow as she resumed scanning the room again for any RR VIPs. Finally, she noticed one as Toreka stepped away. For a moment, she just followed Toreka with her silver eyes. There was something uncanny about that Knight, and it wasn't just her choice of dress. She considered checking up on her later, never having spoken directly before.

Vaguely she recalled the man, her knowledge of his existence stretching back to the time of the GR. Now she knew him to be some big honcho within the judiciary branch of the RR.

"Hello," she said, extending a hand to shake. "Mr. Gantar is it? I'm Jyoti Nooran from the Silver Order."

Allyson continued to smile while the giant man of a Jedi spoke highly of the woman he had accompanied to the Gala with. Nodding in agreement, it seemed Jyoti had collected quite the fan club. Chuckling, the Corellian took a step forward feeling a bit more comfortable with the pair. Hazel eyes spotted where the Jedi Master’s gaze had wandered and Allyson dusted off the freshly stitched First Class Bloodstripes. The story behind them was one that Jyoti knew, but Allyson wondered if the woman was aware that she had received them.

Jorus had come to visit her in the hospital as well and presented them to her and thanking her for her duty to Coreallia. A fond memory, but it also had its pains.

Jyoti’s voice continued as Allyson nodded her head, understanding why the Echani had disappeared from the temple. Allyson had gotten herself more involved with Onyx now that she was feeling a hundred percent and more. Surprise broke the smiling face of the Corellian as Jyoti made the offer for a place in the Shadows. The reason why Allyson had met Jyoti was when the Galactic Alliance’s espionage group was working with the Shadows on missions. The Technomancer recovered quickly and her smile returned.

“That sounds pretty awesome. I have some experience with the shadows and would be excited to join them. After we have our fun tonight - we can talk more officially about it.” It would be a perfect fit for the former SIS agent along with how well she already knew she worked with Jyoti. The woman peeled away and Allyson followed close behind, looking around she somewhat wished she was a higher rank, would sound a bit more impressive - still, she was an XO and a Lt. Commander. Letting Jyoti do the talking for now, Allyson nodded her head towards the man the Jedi was addressing. The Republic Remnant, the whole reason why they were here.

Suddenly Allyson became very interested in the political side of things, that the Jedi seem to handle. A nod and Allyson introduced herself to [member="Transil Gantar"] as well. "Lt. Commander Allyson Locke, nice to meet you."
