Makai Dashiell said:
"No, don't think I will. Go ahead without me."

It is times like these where you begin to realise how badly people have forgotten the terror that the Imperial Stormtrooper can inspire in others merely by looking upon the visor of their dome helmet helmets and that particular, terrifying design exemplified by that certain face painted across the front. Entire star systems used to shake in fear or fury at the sight of them. Now mere civilians stared into their faces and felt nothing anymore.

That bolt of blue and the resulting stun would, perhaps, start correcting certain perspectives while serving as a timely reminder that when an Imperial threatens you they meant it.

Victport Graras said:
"That being said, you've made a serious error. You assume I would simply go along with your plan regardless of the hit to my personal reputation. I'm afraid that's not going to happen. What's going to happen is that you release Makai Dashiell into my custody, so that I might at least attempt to repair the harm you've done here..."

Prystill Oasay said:
"Let's get Mister Dashiell somewhere he can recover... And after that, you and I are going to have a conversation about what the words Foreign Affairs mean."

"Look at how polite you both are," Her retorted as the I.C.D Stormtroopers brought Makai on board the train and lowered his unconscious body onto one of the recently refurbished leather seats in the cabin. Opening her eyes, as she ended her standing meditation, Her raised her chin upwards to rest her crimson eyes upon Graras and Oasay as they squared off backed by the agents who had infiltrated the train before it had even got started. "But your politeness and respect isn't going to convince anyone to do what you want. This is particularly true for both myself and mister Dashiell. In that we share something in common."

While the commotion at the front of the train was nevertheless something important there were twenty-three other cabins filled with miners or other personnel who had boarded the train to go to work on this particular day. Take-off was already delayed by several minutes via the stand-off with Makai and the time couldn't wait anymore. As soon as the I.C.D brought Makai on board the conductor on the platform indicated for the train to launch and as Her looked upon Mahporieem she felt movement as the train started moving. Sarcastic jeers and shouts emanating in the nearby cabin behind Graras and Oasay joined the sycophancy of sounds as the old locomotive set course for the mountain mines nearby.

Her lowered their gaze to look upon Makai as he laid there on the couch. "I have done business with this man for over three years. He is stubborn and the type of guy who won't work with you just to spite your face. This is also particularly true now after I just had him shot. There is nothing either of you could say or do to get him back in your good graces no matter what you offered him; and why would Mahporeem offer mister Dashiell anything at all?"

Pointing her finger at Makai Her exclaimed: "I had everything arranged for this man to buy into a consortium based in the Mid-systems. But as soon as I requested for the funds to be transferred to my accounts in Corrox he ended the negotiation immediately. He doesn't want to work with Mahporeem. But I know about someone who will change his mind."

There are a range of settings found on the blaster used to stun Makai. There is naturally a lethal setting given that it is a weapon designed to kill. But in the hands of a Stormtrooper (particularly one trained to serve in a defunct security division) it can also be used to pacify. Stuns can be set and determined at an array of levels. Her didn't want Makai to be knocked out cold if it came to forcing him aboard the train. She merely wanted him to have his faculties temporarily taken away until he was forced into the cabin.

Even now, as Her stood across from Graras, Oasay and their agents, Her felt Makai beginning to stir back awake on the couch. As she looked away from Makai and back onto the Mahporieem contingent Her studied the agents who had barged their way into the cabin. She then grinned widely at Graras. "But this is more like it High Commander! When you really want something done you have to eliminate the aspect of choice! You must make your opponent realise that anything other than the complete and utter surrender to your demands will result in pain, loss and abject terror if they do not comply!"

Her slammed a fist into her palm to signify the crushing that she spoke about.

"While I have no doubts that the Instrop sector will be under Imperial control again I feel compelled to remind both of you that the Shinbone system is not under Mahporeem's domain," Her said smugly to the High Commander and Minister. "Not yet at any rate. This is a negotiation after-all. It's me verses the two of you right now. You are worrying about the wrong person when you should be worried about yourselves."

The slammed fist in Her's other palm remained there in the cup of her other hand as she studied Graras and Oasay thoughtfully. Suddenly that fist was a palm waving through the air towards the two of them and their men followed by a simple maxim:

"Sleep!"

All around the four of them were agents and Stormtroopers collapsing into the ground as a Jedi mind trick told them to do exactly what Her told them to do. They each collapsed simultaneously and fell in prone positions all around Her, Graras, Oasay and Dashiell while being rendered unconscious leaving only the former Warden Primus in the company of three people who she was quickly turning into rivals in an era where the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant was once more resurgent a thousand-years at the end of it's exile in the known Galaxy . . .

The Regulator eventually made Shade's patience worthwhile, though not by leading her to anything she could identify from a distance. He had put enough ground between himself and the fighting to begin believing he'd escaped it, and that was when his behavior changed. The desperate pace slowed, his attention shifting from what might be behind him toward whatever destination he had chosen ahead. Shade continued following without closing the distance until the sounds of the Imperial assault had faded beneath the vegetation and terrain. Ronhar's update came quietly through her comm along the way. The compound was secure, reinforcements were arriving, and apparently there would even be buildings left when she returned. "Acknowledged." Her reply was equally quiet. "I'll bring back anything useful. The person carrying it may arrive separately."

She gave the Regulator a little longer before deciding she'd learned as much from his direction as she could without allowing him to disappear entirely. Shade changed pace, using the cover she'd maintained throughout the pursuit to reduce the distance between them. She didn't announce herself. She gave him little time to make a decision she might have to correct. When he finally realized his escape had gained company, his reaction answered her immediate question. His hand moved toward his weapon. Shade was already moving. She struck his arm aside before he could bring it properly to bear, followed with a hard blow intended to take the fight out of him rather than his life, and drove him down before he could recover. The struggle was brief. Shade had spent too much of her life ending fights permanently to struggle to recognize where that line lay.

"That was the less convenient option." Shade informed him as she secured his wrists and checked him for additional weapons. Whatever he'd considered important enough to carry out of the armory was separated from him and secured as well, though she resisted the temptation to decide what it meant before she could examine it properly. The Regulator himself received a quick assessment to make certain nothing she'd done required immediate medical attention. Satisfied that he would remain alive and considerably less mobile than he'd been a few minutes earlier, Shade transmitted her coordinates over the Imperial channel. "Tane, I have one Regulator secured for collection at my position. Alive, restrained, and likely to be unhappy about both by the time your people reach him. I'm marking the location for whoever is handling prisoners." She glanced toward her captive. "If possible, tell them not to mistake 'secured' for 'needs additional encouragement.' I'd like him capable of answering questions later."

Shade wasn't particularly interested in spending the remainder of the operation sitting beside a restrained man while an Imperial force searched the place he'd just fled. Once she confirmed personnel were moving to collect him, she left the prisoner where they could recover him without difficulty and headed back toward the compound with the recovered item secured in her possession. Ronhar had promised the search would take time, which suited her perfectly. A fleeing Regulator had already shown that the people inside the armory considered some things worth saving, even as everything around them collapsed. Now Shade wanted to know what everyone else had tried to hide. "I'm heading back." she added over the comm as the armory came back into view. "You did leave me a building. I'm almost touched."

Stun affected every sentient in different ways. Settings and physiology often determined how one was going to react. Not quite human, Makai had a good portion of aquatic lineage. Aquatic lineage that was not taking too kindly to being stunned.

Iced azure cracked open and the train cabin started to spin. Makai found himself dizzy and nauseous to the point he felt as if he was back at a Reena University fraternity party. It had been a long, long time since he had felt so ill to the point where he was concerned about being able to move.

Trouble was, even in the haze of his mind, Makai knew he had to move. Had to sit up and at least look alive. Hands pushed on the couch seat, trying to sit up and look somewhat animated.

Suddenly his face was hot, the room spun more. The half-Galan refused to lay down.

Which resulted in him projectile vomiting directly near Her's fashionable shoes. There was probably some splatter.

The decision to eat a hot nuna sandwich before landing was certainly regrettable.

The 88th Stormtrooper Legion were personally raised and trained by Tassar himself. Made up of veterans and recruits alike, they had come from many places in the Galaxy, diverse backgrounds and even more diverse experiences shaped the soldiers who now wore the crimson. But together with their High Colonel's comradery and with the Moff's energy, the 88th had been shaped into a formidable fighting force now deployed for the Mahporeem. They were a professional all-rounder for operations with top-notch equipment and extremely well vetted officers to ensure both an execution of orders as well as a high initiative and reliability for the task structure doctrine that the Grand Marshal was running.

In the capital of Vlemoth Port, the city of Sanshur Flats, the 88th had been deployed in a wide arc to secure the urban areas and then assault Vlemoth Station itself. Red plated Stormtroopers moved through the streets and had made an effort to secure houses, overlooks, canalisations and most other conventional places that any soldier would find with some application of basic thought processes.

The InterStellar Regulators though had been paid well and apparently not wasted their money of menial entertainment. Aside from their fixed positions outside and around the capital, they had, according to scans and scouts, abandoned the capital and withdrawn to the Station for an effective defence.

The bottom tip of Augustus' staff clanked when it hit the ground as he walked across the central market square, flanked by two of his Stormtroopers. His crimson cloak having the same colour as their armour offering some form of alignment and cohesion. Then the report came in. A scout team's check in was five minutes overdue, so was another squad, and another. Tassar's HUD flooded with reports as in an instant almost two entire companies of his Legion were gone without a trace. He kept his stride though. He moved as he heard how the two next to him grabbed their weapons a little bit tighter and raised them ever so slightly in more alert.

He did not believe in a coincidence and while walking, mapped the missing units positions. They were all exclusively underground. The realisation came at the same time as the square was lit up by several repeaters from buildings around it. Stormtroopers started returning fire, others were simply cut down, comms suddenly were flooded with engagement reports.

They had successfully ambushed the Imperials. The entire city erupted in close combat firefights as Regulators appeared on roofs, in alleys and attacked the Imperial invaders. Tassar was in the very center of it and just as his Lion's Talon spoke, obliterating one of the repeater nexts, so did his voice issue orders.

One thing he was certain of: the enemy had made a terrible mistake, they just did not know it yet.

HIGH COMMANDER VICTPORT GRARAS
INSTROP SECTOR, SHINBONE
OBJECTIVE I: HEART OF THE MOUNTAIN

""Look at how polite you both are. "But your politeness and respect isn't going to convince anyone to do what you want. This is particularly true for both myself and mister Dashiell. In that we share something in common."

"Isn't that the truth?", Victport retorted as Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell began stirring and squirming on the floor of the train. "But my politeness and respect only goes so far. Since you've determined you'd rather not deal with me in that manner, I can assure you I have alternate methods to get what I want", Victport hissed as the train continued gaining speed.

"I have done business with this man for over three years. He is stubborn and the type of guy who won't work with you just to spite your face. This is also particularly true now after I just had him shot. There is nothing either of you could say or do to get him back in your good graces no matter what you offered him; and why would Mahporeem offer mister Dashiell anything at all? I had everything arranged for this man to buy into a consortium based in the Mid-systems. But as soon as I requested for the funds to be transferred to my accounts in Corrox he ended the negotiation immediately. He doesn't want to work with Mahporeem. But I know about someone who will change his mind."

"Oh, what a tragedy of galactic proportions!", Victport quipped sarcastically at Her Her 's comment. "Shall I send the fleet to destroy his home planet then? Shall I have the army invade every world that Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell has done business with? Ha! You understand you're petty squabbles with the man are not my problem, yes? And even if they were, you're still missing the point! I invited Dashiell here in good faith, and I told him I would guarantee his safety. I do not care if he was belligerent, unyielding or stubborn: he was an invited guest traveling under my name and my assurances. And you've just stripped me of that agency".

As Victport spoke, his agents continued inching forward, their blasters trained on Her Her in case she tried taking any additional action against the Imperial Remnant. If she was all concerned, she didn't show it. Rather, if anything, she actually seemed pleased with the situation at hand.

"But this is more like it High Commander! When you really want something done you have to eliminate the aspect of choice! You must make your opponent realise that anything other than the complete and utter surrender to your demands will result in pain, loss and abject terror if they do not comply!"

By this point, Her Her was becoming increasingly more theatric, as she slammed her fist into her other hand as if too prove a point.

"While I have no doubts that the Instrop sector will be under Imperial control again I feel compelled to remind both of you that the Shinbone system is not under Mahporeem's domain. Not yet at any rate. This is a negotiation after-all. It's me verses the two of you right now. You are worrying about the wrong person when you should be worried about yourselves."

"That can be changed rather quickly", Victport said dangerously quietly. The former Warden Primus was, to be sure, someone with a fair amount of power behind them. But so too was Victport. And last he checked, the Warden Primus no longer held any authority over the Imperial Remnant. Victport made up his mind: he was going to order his men to arrest the Warden Primus once and for all. But before he could even think to give the order, she did one thing that sent his plans grinding to halt.

Sleep!

With a simple command and a wave of Her Her hand, the Warden Primus knocked out all of Victport's guards and Her Her own contingent of stormtroopers, sending them tumbling to the floor in a deep sleep. Conversely, Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell finally arose from his stunning, only to turn toward Her Her and immediately vomit onto the floor where she was sitting.

"Charming", Victport muttered dryly as he stood up to move away from the mess Daishell had made. How much had he heard of what Victport had said? Would he still trust him after everything that had happened? Would he even care?

"So now what?", Victport asked Her Her . You've got you're captive audience, at least for the moment, but the second this train stops it will be swarming with my men and my agents. If you have something else to say...now would be the time to do it!"

Prystill had encountered the Force before.

Enough times, in fact, to know that when someone raised a hand and spoke a single word with that particular certainty, whatever happened next was rarely going to improve her day.

"Sleep!"

Pry stiffened. Her hand moved instinctively toward her side as bodies began hitting the floor around her. One. Then another. Then another. For the briefest instant, Pry waited for whatever had struck them to reach her. Nothing. No sudden exhaustion. No fog settling across her thoughts. No inexplicable compulsion to curl up on the floor beside the nearest Intelligence agent. Her reddish eyes moved quickly around the cabin.

Victport remained standing. Makai was beginning to move. Her certainly wasn't asleep. Pry looked down at the agents. So that had been deliberate. She crouched beside the nearest fallen Mahporeem operative. Two fingers pressed against the agent's neck. Pulse. Breathing. "Agent?" Nothing.

Pry straightened slowly. Her gaze settled upon Her again. So that was Her's answer to choice. For all the speeches about politeness failing and strength requiring the elimination of alternatives, the former Warden Primus had now provided a rather literal demonstration.

Pry wasn't especially interested in providing one of her own. Not while the train was moving. Not with twenty-three other cabins occupied by miners and workers. And certainly not after Her had just demonstrated how little protection a cabin full of armed personnel actually provided against her.

Then Makai sat up. Pry's attention immediately shifted toward him. "Mister Dashiell—" She managed one step in his direction. Then Makai vomited. Pry stopped. There was a brief silence from her. Her eyes went from Makai, to the floor, to Her's shoes.

Victport supplied his assessment. Charming. Pry considered the situation with all the solemnity expected of Mahporeem's Minister of Foreign Affairs. "I'm withholding my official assessment."

She stepped carefully around the mess and approached Makai, stopping close enough to help without immediately putting her hands on him. "Mister Dashiell, don't try to stand yet." He looked terrible. Whatever setting had been used against him might not have kept him unconscious for long, but that certainly didn't mean he had shrugged it off.

"Can you hear me?" Pry waited rather than touching him without warning. "If you need help, tell me." There wasn't much else she could responsibly offer. She wasn't a physician, and the people who might have summoned one or assisted Makai were currently scattered unconscious across the cabin floor.

Her gaze briefly moved toward one of those agents. Then back to Makai. "And what I said before still stands." Her voice was quieter now, directed toward him rather than the room. "When you're able, if you want off this train, I'll see that you get off." A glance toward Her. "Apparently that needed repeating."

Whether Makai ever wanted to speak to Mahporeem again was his decision. Her had already declared that nothing Pry or Victport could possibly say would repair the relationship. Perhaps she was right. Pry found that considerably less important than Her apparently did.

If Makai didn't want to do business with Mahporeem, then he didn't. Foreign investment was useful. It wasn't worth kidnapping people over. Pry gave Makai what space she could within the cabin before turning back toward the confrontation.

Victport was still standing. That was reassuring. More surprising was how closely the High Commander's objection mirrored her own. Pry had boarded the train prepared to prevent old grievances between Mahporeem and the Dashiells from poisoning another meeting. Instead Victport had defended the guarantee he'd given Makai even after the man had refused to board. Pry would remember that.

Her attention returned to Her. The former Warden Primus had gone to extraordinary lengths for this. An elaborate invitation. A moving train. An unwilling businessman. Corrections Directorate stormtroopers. And now a display of the Force that had removed everyone from the conversation except four people. Her. Victport. Makai. Prystill. That selection mattered.

Victport asked the obvious question. So now what? Pry folded her arms. "Yes." Her eyes briefly traveled around the sleeping agents. "I'd particularly like an answer to that."

Whatever anger had been visible earlier was gone. What remained was considerably colder. "You've demonstrated that you can incapacitate everyone in this cabin who isn't necessary to whatever performance you're staging."

Pry glanced toward Makai. Then Victport. Finally Her. "Which means the four of us are still awake for a reason." She made no move toward a weapon. No threat of arrest. Victport had already made clear what would happen when the train stopped. Her had just made equally clear what might happen if they attempted to force that confrontation prematurely. Pry could wait.

"The High Commander asked you a question." Her arms remained folded. "You've stunned one guest, put two security details to sleep, delayed a train full of miners, and made an enemy of practically everyone in this cabin." Pry's gaze dipped momentarily toward Her's footwear. "Possibly including your shoes." Then her expression settled. "You've gone to considerable trouble to make certain we're the only people awake to hear whatever comes next." A beat. "So I'm listening."

Makai Dashiell said:
Which resulted in him projectile vomiting directly near Her's fashionable shoes. There was probably some splatter.

It had been a beautiful dress that would have been the envy of any aristocrat living in Theed up until Makai threw up on Her. With a face curdling into a mixture of disgust and anger Her stepped back to look in disgust at the vomit that was now clinging to the bottom of her formerly white garments as High Commander Graras and Minister Oasay begun to shout.

In the background, as the train whirred and wheeled along the tracks towards the mountain, a series of sarcastic jeers and shouting of their own emanated from the cabin compartment behind them. Although the miners in there could not see what was happening in Cabin A they nevertheless had their own ears and intuition. It was certainly an interesting morning comparatively to all the others they had gone through as they began their day of work in the nearby mountain mines.

Her heard it all and it made her furious. Fury had a way of eroding all trepidation and anxieties in the moment. It was time for a mask off moment.

Victport Graras said:
"So now what? You've got you're captive audience, at least for the moment, but the second this train stops it will be swarming with my men and my agents. If you have something else to say...now would be the time to do it!"

When the Mahporieem participated in the Thandon Incursions they had been cutthroat, aggressive and ruthless as they fought the Sith. Yet Commander Graras and Minister Oasay were showing a level of courtesy or good-standing that Her hadn't expected as they stood in this train. It was concerning because their behaviour was something Her wasn't used to dealing with. She certainly hadn't expected them to care about what would happen to Makai Dashiell.

Her was used to dealing with bad men. Kilran had been the type of man who would do anything to get to the top. Von Strauss was pragmatic and cunning to the point that the deeds deemed to be bad were not beyond reproach so long as he wasn't in the know about them. He would work with anyone if it meant advancing his cause it seemed. Then there was Sularen who possessed the type of reputation that would see him glass an entire planet if it meant achieving victory. Her was too used to dealing with these types of Imperials that she had genuinely forgotten what it was like to deal with good men or women in the Imperial movement.

She had overestimated these Mahporieem and their capacity for violence. A mistake that could prove costly now as the train drew closer to it's next stop.

"Schutta," Her muttered about Makai as she took one of the nearby seats to try and clear the sick off her shoes.

Prystill Oasay said:
"So I'm listening."

"As I explained this is a negotiation," Her reiterated. There was no doubt about it now. Makai had permanently ruined her shoes and dress. She would never wear them after today. "Let's negotiate."

"I am an opportunist High Commander Graras. Minister Oasay. When I saw that Mister Dashiell was on Shinbone I took an opportunity and acted accordingly,"
Her went onto explain. "Our deal for Penumbral Surveyors has yet to be completed. If I cannot coerce or convince him to pay then I will force him into compliance. There is work that I am going about in the Mid-systems related to the Svivren Pass and Tarsai's proposal that requires expertise related to shipping that neither Mahporeem, Umbrella or our mutual associates can cover. So I need leverage before I approach Danger Arceneau to negotiate A.T.C's involvement in my work. Makai is my leverage and I will have it by day's end."

Cleaning her hands and wiping them dry along her stained, ruined dress Her looked back up to the group as they stood at the other end of the cabin. It was a ludicrous sight Her quietly admitted. They were surrounded by a dozen unconscious men, on a moving train, filled to the teeth with an assortment of other hard grafting miners on their way to work; and here was Her talking about schemes that Dashiell, Graras or Oasay were either not completely familiar with or didn't care about.

There was also now a ticking time bomb in effect. If Her didn't convince Graras to call off his men then the Mahporeem connection would die on Shinbone before it could blossom. Her had no doubts that if that were to happen then her five year plan to become Umbrella's C.E.O would also end today. L.O.H had been very clear: the N&Z would no longer tolerate the behaviour that had seen to the demise of other favourable opportunities that had been lost due to Her's scheming.

Naboo was no longer a safe commodity anymore either. She had Ala Quin Ala Quin and Aurelian Veruna Aurelian Veruna to thank for this. There would be no-where to go after today if Mahporeem tried to arrest and incarcerate her. Her done was playing prisoner. If Graras and Oasay made an enemy out of her then this day would live long in the memory.

Her would assure it.

"I have overestimated the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant," Her admitted as she looked up to the others from her seat. "I genuinely didn't think that either of you would care about what happened to Mister Dashiell. Here is a man with no sympathy for your government or your work who is not associated or working alongside any particular individuals or organisations that are working for Mahporeem who would care enough to ask you to stop me. This is also a man who at the very first mention of your planet ended a negotiation that he had, up until that moment, was going to enter into business with a consortium I am working alongside on Kenari. So, yes, I brought him onto this train to force his hand, and I don't mind shooting him to get the job done."

Lowering her gaze to study her manicured fingernails, Her frowned and said almost to herself: "I had no idea that I was dealing with such decent people. Not after what the Mahporieem did on behalf of my Project Tion. You were so cruel on Brosi, and yet here you are, defending a man that doesn't like you and doesn't want to help you. But I want to help you. I am already helping you."

A loud, audible sigh came from the enigma as she looked back up from her fingernails. She studied Graras thoughtfully. To Her there was only one way to meet strength and it was by being strong yourself. Appealing to powerful men's better nature or mercy was antithetical to her beliefs and point-of-view. As far as Her was concerned, despite the consequences of which loomed a mere station away when this train next docked to pick up or disembark more passengers, Her wasn't going to back down from the High Commander and the Minister to his side. If they were going to make a threat then they best carry it out or die trying.

"In the next few minutes this train is going to stop again to pick up more people on their way to work," Her explained as she went back to admiring her nails. They were laced with esoteric patterns similar to the tattoo found at the base of her neck. As she followed the intricate patterns Her calculated a series of things such as how she would evade Graras' men (if he didn't capitulate to her threats) and how long they had left until the next station arrived. There wasn't a lot of time left at all.

"If I am arrested by you, High Commander, then Vūm will cease operations on Mahporeem," Her threatened Graras and Oasay. "We will withdraw the funding that we have been providing. We will tell the Shinbone Mining Company that Mahporeem is going to push them out. We will tell Umbrella to stop working with your military, science and salvage ministries. Conversely we will sabotage any negotiations for diplomatic relations with the High Republic that you are presently seeking. We are positioned to accomplish all of this. I can assure you both of this."

"Whether you like me or not, whether you like what has happened to this man or not, I am going to complete the negotiations that I begun with Mister Dashiell and he is coming with me one way or the other,"
Her continued to say with a matter-of-fact tone of voice. There was no smugness or arrogance laced in the sentences. It was as if she had already made up her mind and knew how to hurt Mahporeem if Graras and Oasay continued to protect Makai from her.

"If you do not stop worrying about him and focus on yourselves then today is going to end in a disaster for the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant. Please do not sabotage the extensive relationships that I have fostered with the Imperial movement over one Galan too stubborn or too thick to see sense or I am going to hurt you. Badly."

Her raised one of those manicured fingers and pointed it to Makai next.

"As for you I would suggest that you start seeing sense as well. If you don't do the right thing here and talk my associates out of trying to help you then I am going to find Perse."

Tension filled the cabin and it was so thick that not even a Lightsaber could cut through it. The jeering and laughter coming from the back cabin wasn't helping. Although those hard men were undoubtedly amusing themselves before starting another day in the mountain, as they broke their backs and sacrifice their health for a job that would rather escape from, all Her could hear in that moment were people weaker than her trying to do something right for the wrong reasons and Her had had enough of wearing that certain façade to convince them to do what was right by her.

In her view there was only the strong, and the powerful. It was only through power that one attain victory; and it was through victory that she would be free.

Feet firmly on the floor, Makai was forcing himself stay upright. Eyes cracked open once and the dizziness returned. If his eyes stayed closed he could somewhat function. Head locked straight ahead, unmoving. Makai surmised the stun combined with the motion of the train was a horrific combination, nor did he have any type of stim to counteract the effects. One of the MIR Representatives was speaking to him, along with some rants with Her mixed in between. There was someone else there, a man. Another Representative if he was remembering correctly.

"No. I'll be okay. I'll....send me your cleaning invoice for the train. I'll be getting off next step, need not worry I add to the mess."

He couldn't vomit on the train and not offer something in return. As for Her's dress, she would have to foot her own dry cleaning bill. In fact, she kept rambling on. First about how stubborn he was - no denial there. Then about their business transactions, and Danger, then Persephone. Makai was mildly surprised she did not threaten his younger children. Persephone was an adult, a spitfire, and much much harder to kidnap. He would also reach out to her current suitor to ensure an extra set of eyes would be on the socialite for the next several months at a minimum. It was an attempt to get him to act. To possibly attack. He wasn't completely stupid.

"Have you ever asked Danger outright to do business or have you just sulked and whined? You consider yourself this major mastermind but your penchant to be mysterious for no fucking reason is your downfall. Should you have laid out all details about the survey company in the beginning we could have worked something else."

He had more to say but was it even worth it? He wanted to roll his eyes at her rant about the MIR government needing Vum and somehow he felt that was false. If the government was truly tied to one business they were utter fools.

As the train came to a halt and the doors slid open, workers began to get on. Two Noghri entered the train as well and immediately made their way for Makai. Hired by Arceneau herself, they trailed him since a near-death experience ages back. Imposing, the workers moved to the side as the pair moved to pick up their charge by the armpits.

"Its time to go Mister Dashiell. We would have arrived sooner but was giving you the benefit of the doubt until the next stop."

Taken by his armpits, the Noghri drug him out with little ceremony. There was no time to toss him over a shoulder or explain further. Their shuttle was already waiting to take off and leave the area. The quicker they left the better.

Prystill listened. That was what Her had wanted, apparently. A captive audience. Now she had one. Pry remained silent as the explanation unfolded, and with every new detail the original purpose of this meeting seemed to become less relevant. Penumbral Surveyors. The Svivren Pass. Tarsai. Danger Arceneau Danger Arceneau . Shipping expertise. Leverage. Makai Dashiell hadn't been dragged aboard because Her believed his involvement was necessary for Shinbone. He had been dragged aboard because Her had seen an opportunity to solve another problem entirely. Using a meeting to which Mahporeem's Foreign Minister and High Commander had been invited. Pry's expression remained carefully neutral.

Then Her admitted she'd misjudged them. That almost earned a laugh. Almost. Instead, Pry's brow rose slightly as Her explained that she hadn't expected either of them to care what happened to Makai. After all, he didn't like Mahporeem. He hadn't wanted to do business with Mahporeem. He had no particular allegiance to Mahporeem. Apparently that was supposed to matter.

"You misunderstand." Pry finally interrupted. Her voice wasn't loud. "Mister Dashiell doesn't need to like Mahporeem." She glanced toward Makai. "He was invited here under our protection." Her attention returned to Her. "If our guarantees only apply to people who already support us, they aren't guarantees." That was all Pry had to say about Mahporeem's supposed decency. She wasn't particularly interested in proving that Mahporeem was kind. She was interested in making certain its word meant something.

Then Her began making threats. Pry listened to those too. VūM would leave Mahporeem. Funding would disappear. Shinbone Mining Company would be turned against them. N&Z Umbrella would be encouraged to abandon cooperation with Mahporeem's ministries. Even the High Republic would apparently become another front upon which Her intended to retaliate. All because Victport and Pry objected to allowing her to abduct a man who had arrived under their assurances of safety.

Pry's expression gradually became unreadable. She didn't tell Her that Mahporeem could survive without VūM. She didn't question whether Her actually possessed enough influence to accomplish everything she threatened. She didn't threaten her in return. There was something much more useful Pry could do. Remember every word.

Then Her threatened Perse. Pry's gaze flicked toward Makai. That one wasn't hers to answer. Neither was Makai's response. She remained quiet while he finally addressed Her, and Pry couldn't entirely disagree with the central observation buried beneath his considerably less diplomatic choice of words. There appeared to be an extraordinary amount of scheming involved in avoiding straightforward conversations.

Then the train began slowing. Pry felt the change beneath her feet before the station appeared beyond the windows. Makai had already made his intention clear. I'll be getting off next stop. Pry had made a promise of her own. If you want off this train, I'll see that you get off.

The doors opened. Two Noghri entered. Pry watched them move directly toward Makai. There was no uncertainty about why they were here, and their explanation confirmed it. Danger Arceneau's people. Interesting. Pry stepped aside. No protest. No request that Makai remain for another five minutes. No suggestion that perhaps, after being stunned, abducted, threatened and violently ill, he might still be interested in discussing investment opportunities on Shinbone. His guards took hold of him.

"Mister Dashiell." Pry waited until she had whatever portion of his attention his current condition allowed. "My word still stands." A slight inclination of her head followed. "Safe travels." Then she let him go.

Only after Makai and his Noghri had disappeared through the doors did Pry's attention shift back into the cabin. For a moment, she looked toward the station beyond the windows. Her needed Makai as leverage before approaching Danger Arceneau. Danger Arceneau's people had just walked aboard and removed Makai from Her's custody. Pry slowly looked back toward Her. "Interesting timing." Nothing more.

The doors would not remain open forever. Neither would the opportunity to settle what remained between the three of them. Pry stepped around one of the still-sleeping agents and faced Her again. "Mister Dashiell has made his decision. Whatever negotiation you intended to have with him aboard this train is over." There was no triumph in the statement. The entire affair had been too disastrous for anyone to claim victory. "But there is still one negotiation remaining."

Pry clasped her hands behind her back. "Ours." Her tone changed subtly. Not threatening. Official. "I want to make certain I understood what you just told us." Pry began counting the points without bothering to use her fingers. "If High Commander Graras prevents you from taking Mister Dashiell against his will, VūM will cease operations on Mahporeem and withdraw its funding." A pause. "You will attempt to convince Shinbone Mining Company that Mahporeem intends to force them out." Another. "You will attempt to persuade N&Z Umbrella to end its cooperation with our military, science and salvage ministries."

Her reddish eyes remained fixed upon Her. "And you will attempt to sabotage diplomatic relations between Mahporeem and the High Republic." Pry allowed several seconds of silence. She wasn't asking whether Her could do those things. That could be determined later. She was asking whether Her had just threatened to do them. "All because we refused to permit you to abduct a guest traveling under Mahporeem's protection." Pry tilted her head slightly. "Is that your position?" There was no anger left in her voice. Just a question.

And Pry wanted an answer. She waited. Whatever Her said next would determine considerably more than whether VūM continued doing business with Mahporeem. Eventually, Pry's gaze shifted briefly toward Victport. The High Commander had already made his intentions toward Her quite clear before the Force had removed his agents from the equation. Now the train had stopped. Makai was gone. And somewhere beyond Cabin-A, Victport's people presumably knew exactly where their commander was. Pry looked back to Her. Foreign Affairs had reached the limits of what diplomacy could accomplish alone. Whether Her walked away from this station was no longer entirely Pry's decision.

HIGH COMMANDER VICTPORT GRARAS
INSTROP SECTOR, SHINBONE
OBJECTIVE I: HEART OF THE MOUNTAIN

For all of Her Her apparent bluster, the former Warden Primus was rapidly losing control of the situation she had attempted to engineer. Danger Arceneau Danger Arceneau 's "employees" had quickly entered the cabin they were in and scooped Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell up as if he were a sack of Corellian Potatoes, beating a hastily retreat as they attempted to get off just as quickly as they had entered. There rescue attempt wasn't pretty, and Victport was curious to see if Her Her would allow them to proceed or attempt to block them from leaving entirely.

More pressing, at least for Victport, was the rant that Her Her had gone on just mere moments before. Promises of withdrawing Vum from Mahporeenian operations. Threats to have Shinbone refuse Imperial cooperation. Attempts to have the N&Z Umbrella Corporation stop working with the Imperial Remnant. Honestly, Victport wouldn't have been surprised if Her Her would have claimed that she would turn the entire galaxy against them, as if she was the first person to try and do that. Well, at least the first person to do it deliberately, notwithstanding the damage Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen had done with his kidnapping of that High Republic senator several months ago.

Victport remained quiet as the Noghri guards continued dragging Makai out of the cabin. While he appreciated Prystill Oasay Prystill Oasay 's attempts to keep an open form of communication up between them, Her Her was right about one thing: Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell would never trust or want to work with the Imperial Remnant again, even if this whole situation was not what Victport had intended. The fact that he had been unable to protect Makai spoke volumes to how Makai surely saw any relationship going forward with the Imperial Remnant to be.

"Are you quite finished?", Victport asked Her Her , his voice barely raised above a whisper. "Because now its my turn. I fear you are perhaps under some false impressions here, or that you somehow have the wrong idea about us. Allow me to correct that. Mahporeem does not need Vum. Vum needs Mahporeem. You understand we were on our own for nearly a thousand years, yes? Confined to the scrapheads of our planet, subsisting on the most meager of whatever resources we were able to dig up. We know what its like to suffer, what it is to struggle on a daily basis as the galaxy continues around you like you're little more than an insignificant speck of dust floating around the cosmos of space. Yet here we are, having accomplished so much with so little. Do you truly believe your threats to withdraw from our business dealings mean anything to us? That you are somehow integral to our plans, that nothing can be done without you? Granted, losing Vum would be painful, but it would not be fatal, and there are a dozen other companies that would run to take your place the moment you withdrew. Do you truly believe Shinbone or the N&Z Umbrella Corporation stupid enough to cut off dealings with us? And even if they did, are you truly under the impression that that would somehow stop or defeat us. I'll remind of what was said to Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell and the others back on Corrox some months ago: we're fulfilling our ambitions with or without you in the picture. You can continue to be a part of that and profit from our relationship, or you can decide to leave. At the end of the day, it matters not. So go ahead: withdraw your company, complain to Shinbone and N&Z and the High Republic: we'll do our best to carry on with or without you."

With that, Victport stood up to exit the train as he gestured toward Prystill.

"Forget it", he informed her. "We've wasted enough time here. I'll be making my own departure."

Just as Victport reached the exit, he turned around to speak one more time.

"Oh, and one more thing? If you do continue to work with us, let me be explicitly clear: pull something like this again and it'll be the last time you do."

Whether or not he meant he'd terminate their working relationship or something more sinister, Victport did not elaborate. He simply exited the train as dozens of Mahporeenian Intelligence officers silently surrounded him, just in case Her Her had any ideas about following him or trying something else against him...

Makai Dashiell said:
"Have you ever asked Danger outright to do business or have you just sulked and whined? You consider yourself this major mastermind but your penchant to be mysterious for no fucking reason is your downfall. Should you have laid out all details about the survey company in the beginning we could have worked something else."

As Dashiell verbally tore into Her she got up and turned her back to the group as the train rattled along the trains on course for the station. She turned to the window situated between the exit and the doorway that led into the train controllers room while Makai continued to speak. Her couldn't stand to look at him. In the reflection of the window panel a look of utter disgust and frustration was etched along the woman's face. Only the quiet standing Jedi meditative techniques that Her continually practised (despite her fall to the dark-side) kept her from pulling out her Lightsaber and carving the entire cabin up in red lights.

What frustrated Her the most was that there was certain truthes in what Makai had said before he got off the train. The constant enigmatic stance and esotericism was alienating to a man like Makai Dashiell. He wasn't a Junker-Imperial looking to restore Mahporeem after a thousand-years in exile. Makai was a normal man by comparison to the associates Her usually dealt with. He had no grand designs or schemes in mind; and so to someone like Her she found it increasingly difficult to gain leverage over him as it came to business. It was clear now that Her didn't know Makai at all and that was why he felt determined to never work with Her again. She could feel it in the Force as he finished his verbal assault and climbed off the train.

What made it worse was that Makai now knew why Her had invited him to Sojourn all those times to discuss potential business opportunities for the pair to work in. He knew why she had chosen to accept Danger Arceneau Danger Arceneau 's petition to attend the first Convocation of Sojourn. Why she had arranged for Aina Holdings to be involved in the Obredaan Peel or how the Doonium mines (previously held by Drey Incorporated) were sold into Makai's portfolio. Her wanted leverage over the half-Galan and then juxtapose it against Arceneau Trading Company in some proverbial negotiation set to happen in the future. Makai knew that now and so all advantages Her sought to have were all gone.

Victport Graras said:
"...You can continue to be a part of that and profit from our relationship, or you can decide to leave. At the end of the day, it matters not. So go ahead: withdraw your company, complain to Shinbone and N&Z and the High Republic: we'll do our best to carry on with or without you."

But as she stared through the window Her personally felt that this was not to her doing.

This was their fault. Not Her's.

Her had a plan up until it had been thwarted. She had come out strong against Graras and the Mahporieem High Commander had called her bluff thereby preventing Her from taking Makai today as she claimed that she was going too. He had made her a liar. Warped by her own sense of ego (and by her underlying powers in the Dark-Side) Her turned her red eyes to look into the reflection in the window to settle her gaze upon the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the High Commander as the latter followed Makai off the train.

These Mahporieem had stood up against Her. Called her bluff and prevented her from taking Makai somewhere where he would be convinced.

In Oasay and Graras, Her found new rivals amid the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant.

Prystill Oasay said:
"Is that your position?"

When Dashiell and Oasay disappeared out of view (through the window panel) Her turned her gaze to look at Oasay's reflection. "Yes. I meant what I said. Mahporeem has made a mistake today. You will rue the consequences of ruining my negotiation tactics with the Arceneau Trading Company. I can assure you of that."

Yes. That was the answer Prystill had wanted. Not because it was a good answer. Not because she wanted VūM withdrawing investments, interference with Umbrella, problems with Shinbone Mining Company or another complication added to whatever relationship Mahporeem might eventually establish with the High Republic. Pry wanted it because there could no longer be any ambiguity about what had been said.

Her meant every word. Pry gave a small nod. "Thank you." There was nothing sarcastic about it. Her had answered the question. That was enough.

Victport apparently agreed that there was little more worth accomplishing aboard the train. Pry listened as the High Commander answered Her's threats with an assurance of his own: Mahporeem had survived without VūM before. It would survive without them again. Whether Pry would have phrased it quite the same way didn't particularly matter. The important part was that Victport didn't take the bait. Neither of them needed to. Makai was gone. The kidnapping had failed. Her's threats were now explicit. And the people sleeping around Cabin-A would presumably wake with one hell of a story.

Victport gestured toward her. Forget it. We've wasted enough time here. Pry looked once toward Her. There was fury there. Perhaps something more. Pry had spent enough of her life around Sith to know that lingering in a confined space with an angry Force-user merely to secure the last word was generally a poor survival strategy. Fortunately, she didn't need the last word.

Her supplied it anyway. Mahporeem has made a mistake today. Pry stopped at the doorway. You will rue the consequences of ruining my negotiation tactics with the Arceneau Trading Company. For a moment, Pry simply regarded Her. This woman had stunned Makai Dashiell, dragged him onto a train, threatened his family, incapacitated two security details and threatened an Imperial government because nobody would allow her to use an unwilling man as leverage in a business negotiation. And somehow Mahporeem had ruined her negotiating tactics.

Pry decided against saying any of that. "Then I suppose we'll see." No threat. No declaration of rivalry. No promise that Foreign Affairs would destroy VūM. Just an acknowledgment.

Pry stepped through the doors onto the platform. The presence of Mahporeem Intelligence surrounding Victport was considerably more reassuring now than it had been before she'd watched Her put an entire cabin to sleep with two syllables. Pry fell into step nearby.

She waited until there was sufficient distance between them and the train before speaking. "High Commander." Her voice was low. "Whatever happens next with VūM, Shinbone Mining Company or N&Z Umbrella, my office needs a complete record of what happened in that cabin."

Especially the threats. Especially Her's confirmation. "And I would recommend we don't answer any of them today." Pry glanced back toward the train. "If she withdraws VūM, we deal with that. If she approaches Umbrella, we speak with Umbrella. If she approaches Shinbone Mining Company, we speak with them." Her gaze returned forward. "But I'm not going to negotiate against threats she hasn't carried out yet."

There were too many actual problems on Shinbone already. Pry exhaled softly. "As for Mister Dashiell..." That was considerably less pleasant. "I don't think we contact him." Not yet. Maybe not for some time. "He came here voluntarily. We promised him a choice. He was stunned and abducted before we could keep that promise." Pry glanced toward Victport. "He knows we objected. He knows you tried to enforce your guarantee. He knows I let him leave." That would have to be enough. "Anything we send him now risks sounding like we're trying to repair a business relationship before he's finished recovering from what happened." Pry shook her head. "Let him go home." Perhaps someday Makai Dashiell would answer another message from Mahporeem. Perhaps he wouldn't. Foreign Affairs would survive either result.

Pry stopped for a moment and looked back toward the repulsor-train. She had boarded expecting to mediate a disagreement over mining investment. Instead, someone had been shot, someone had vomited, several people had been rendered unconscious through the Force, a corporation had threatened the government, and two Noghri had carried a businessman off the train. Pry turned away. "I'm going back to the miners." Wonma had been left alone with Illithor Du'thra and a proposed mining cooperative. After this morning, that sounded almost relaxing. Almost. Pry started back toward the settlement. Foreign Affairs still had work to do.

Illithor surveyed the gathered miners, he could see more happy faces than concern on their faces. If Mahporeem was to do what other more militant Imperials always try and fail at... they would need their own approach. By making cooperatives, by getting competition within their own economy it strengthens the over all robustness & view of new worlds they wish to bring in.

The Iron fist and dominion of old always breeds rebellion.

"Can we determine whether either clan still has representatives on Shinbone?" Wonma glanced toward Illithor. "And if they don't, I'd like the claim history checked before anyone starts reopening anything beyond whatever stabilization is necessary for safety." She tucked the information away. "Abandoned equipment is salvage." A small smile. "Abandoned property gets more complicated." That was a distinction she'd learned considerably earlier than diplomatic school.

Wonma turned back toward the miners. "We've just discovered something potentially valuable." She gestured toward the report. "And our first question was who already owns it." Her large dark eyes moved across the gathered operators. "Remember that." Because every independent miner here had probably wondered what Mahporeem's arrival meant when something valuable was discovered beneath their claim.

Would the Empire decide it was strategically necessary? Would some enormous corporation arrive with lawyers? Would the owner discover that independence lasted precisely until someone wealthier wanted what was underneath them? Wonma couldn't promise none of those pressures would ever exist. She could demonstrate how Foreign Affairs intended to approach them.

Her attention returned to the holographic projection Illithor had brought. Two stations. One capable of providing the mobile shipyard infrastructure he'd already demonstrated. Another providing automated foundries. Substantial assets. Possibly transformative ones. Wonma stared at the projection for another moment. Then she looked at Illithor. "All right, Minister." There was a dangerous little hint of enthusiasm in her voice. "You've convinced me to start asking the boring questions."

She produced her datapad. "You said each participating operator gets a seat." Wonma began taking notes. "Is that one operator, one vote? Or are votes weighted by production?" Another note. "The cooperative owns both stations?" She emphasized the word. "Not your ministry. Not Du'thra Engineering. The cooperative."
He listened to Wonma for a time "Well my aides are currently running down where they are. At least from a few miners in the crowd my aides had heard they still were around somewhere." He nodded in agreement, the mine regardless needed stabilized.

He beamed at the "boring questions" that's what makes everything work in the end. "Yes, each operator gets a seat and a vote. As for production they split it the way of how much they put in." Then the important question, the stations. "Yes the cooperative owns both. If they didn't want to run the mundane parts my company will for .3% cut of either raw material, finished, or credits."
Wonma continued before the answers could carry them too far in one direction. "Who pays operating costs? How do members schedule access? Who sets refining and fabrication fees? What happens when somebody leaves?" She glanced toward the miners. "And if Du'thra Engineering operates the stations on their behalf, what does that cost them?" Wonma lowered the datapad slightly. There was no accusation in her expression. Quite the opposite.

Illithor had brought something tangible to the table. Now Wonma wanted to make certain it became what both of them claimed it could be. "If we're asking independent operators to stop competing long enough to build something together, they should know exactly what belongs to them when we're finished."

Her gaze shifted toward the neutronium report again. "And if we can locate Thain and Kurast..." The pieces fit together remarkably well. Wonma looked around the processing yard. "Maybe we already have our first test."

The abandoned mine required stabilization. Equipment. Engineering. Extraction. Processing. Transportation. Buyers. Exactly the collection of problems they had spent the morning discussing. "We approach the owners," Wonma continued. "We tell them what's been discovered beneath their claim. Then, if they're interested, we show them what reopening it through the cooperative would look like." She smiled faintly. "They keep their mine." A gesture toward Illithor's projected infrastructure. "The cooperative proves it can actually do what we're standing here promising."

Wonma looked toward the assembled miners again. "And Mahporeem gets its neutronium without teaching every miner on Shinbone to hide whenever an Imperial surveyor finds something valuable." She paused. Then added: "Seems like everyone wins."

Wonma glanced down at the list of governance questions on her datapad. "Assuming we survive the boring questions first."
With her next questions he realized he had gotten ahead in a singular point. He paused for a moment
"Well great questions. Well cost, access, refining & fabrication fees, will be divided as their board decides. It's recommended that it's divided by volume used. If a members wants out they can sell their spot to another interested party or their share is bought out by the rest of the cooperative."

There was much to do, but the ground work had started. Illithor's aides were busy collecting information from those present while the first female aide continued to look through information to find Clans Thain & Kurast.

Illithor spoke again "That is the goal, but also I am willing to foot the stations for additional cooperatives if there is interest. As for the ones present now. My aides are collecting information, preliminary documents should arrive in the next few days. The two stations will arrive five days after the last signature is inked."

He paused when a data pad was handed to him "There will be a few more technical meetings for those who sign on. So we can hammer out the rest of the details.-" Illithor brings up one of his wrists and types in a bunch of words before a hologram appears above his wrist guard and vanishes. "-I have to go and meet with the Muun's. I think I can hammer out an investment fund with them. It has been a pleasure Wonma, till next time." Illithor gave a smile and a slight bow.

Illithor walks away joining up with a few aides & security droids. They get into two of the TIE AXE's and head off in the direction of the Muun's in the city.
