The new Republic interest check

Oh, undoubtedly we'd survive without a GR for a time. You know what really irks me though? How things are being carried out. The general ill will and bad form in which things are being carried out in. People justify it that the GR has done some bad stuff and that that justifies bad stuff being done to them IC and OOC.

Because somehow when a person does what's been done to them back, it's not hypocritical, it's different! Somehow it's okay to dogpile them at every chance, to talk poodoo OOC and generally behave terribly. It's done with a childish kind of glee, the same glee I've seen in kids burning bugs with a magnifying glass.

People have stopped caring about the writers themselves they're doing this too. They either have a personal pet hatred or are just a bandwagon hopper. The bandwagoneers see all the more well-known characters doing something so they have to do it too. They just see a chance to be one of the 'in-crowd' and do what everybody else is doing.

If the GR (and the OS too) are going to fold, why can't it be allowed to happen naturally? Slowly but surely the factions were dying out. They'd have been recalled or gone minor of their own volition eventually. But now it's being done in such a way where even more toxicity happens.

That's my big issue, the high school drama being played out by apparent adults, not so much the faction being gone.

Quite right, in principal.

Speaking of the disdain though:

As long as people are not held to a higher standard by their peers, their faction and, most importantly themselves, there will continue to be pettiness and toxic behavior. I find myself agreeing with what Tefka/Ra Vizsla has been generally saying about how it's not the staff's job to police that. We should be doing that among ourselves.

Faction owners are already largely doing this but we should tell our fellow faction members to stop if we find their words cross the line of common decency. In turn, if we are asked to stop, we shouldn't automatically become defensive. We should consider why the other person said what they did.

That's being an adult about things. Children largely don't understand empathy and it's a big thing that makes an adult an adult. If we did that, the RP judges would rarely have to be consulted.

True, but that doesn't mean we can't strive to keep it as minimal as humanly possible. I'm saying all of what I've said above because I'm guilty of some of that childishness. I can do better and so can we all as a group. It's going to need other people to actually work, as in most things in life.

I'm legitimately disappointed in some of the responses in this thread.

poodoo post on your own threads, don't dog-pile into somebodies interest check just so you can show us how cool and smarmy you all are.

Edit: Upon further review, I take this back, I'm disappointed in the creation of this idea, more than I'm disappointed in the flack this idea has received. Consider this plan scolded.

To answer all questions.

I've been mulling this over and honestly I'd like to go with a different structure than the current Republic.

The New Republic would be pretty much a rip of the EU New Republic. Except the government system I was gonna rip from my old project the free colonies. Here's the sample, just replace it with whatever title makes sense to you.

The Free Colonial Congress
A loose Government runs us. The Federal powers are very limited and Governors can run their worlds pretty much as they please. The Colonial Congress deals with larger issues such as Trade Agreements, Overall Diplomacy and Wartime affairs.
It is a three body system.
The Colonial President
Elected by the Faction Members on a Three Months Cycle.
A figurehead position with power and authority to make deals and agreements with outsiders. Can also declare war and negate deals if necessary.
The Colonial Cabinet
Four positions make up the Cabinet. The Cabinet is appointed by the Pres.
The Minister of Finance: Runs the Coin and treasury of the Colonies. Makes advisories to the Pres.
Minister of War: Runs the overall military affairs and strategy of the Colnies, Advises the Pres
Minister of Diplomacy: The diplomat, brokering deals and helping to advise the Pres on matters outside of our borders.
Minister of Science: Deals with technological advances as well as procurement and building of fleets and other assets. Advises the Pres
Planetary Governors
Much like Senators in the Republic, the Planetary Governors run their respective worlds and maintain order. Their forces answer to them and they may make whatever laws the please.
Planetary Governors are the back bone of the Gov.
Appointed by Request.
--------------------------------------------
Mechanics of Politics
Governors can vote on a bill. 2/3rd majority passes.
Pres can veto or pass it.
Governors can overturn Veto on a second 2/3rds Majority & 2/3rds Majority from the Advisors.
Ministers are for story mostly, but can do things in their respective areas. This is meant for creative options, not to choke-hold ideas. Keep it simple and fun.
Military wise
The forces would be a regular standing force, aided by planetary militia's. Much like the roman legions.

Why?

This isn't too much about having a republic. I just want to see if I can spin off a system that has potential under a Face we are all familiar with. I like the vibe of the Alliance but they seem to have defeated their main foe and slowed down a bit. The SSC is cool, they do their own thing which I can appreciate.

I think having another light sided faction would certainly be a challenge to get people behind.

On the other hand I would see us as the direct counterpart to the First Order. The Alliance is more Jedi driven than anything from what I can ascertain. They have a heavy influence on RPing Jedi restoring the light to the galaxy. The New Republic would have a heavier hand in Diplomacy, Peacekeeping, Protection, Spying, Political strife as well as a more lax Jedi order.

I'd defitely want a bigger focus on the NFU's.

The Jedi part I haven't even figured out yet. There's a million of them so any input would be nice.

#IgiveUP. Roast me.

Our main foe hasn't been defeated, nor are we Jedi driven. We have a high percentage of Jedi, yes, but they're not the true power behind our Federation. Now, as to what you've posted here? That's more or less how our Federation runs. So your "New Republic" would basically the the Galactic Alliance - light.

Look people, love it or hate it. Love me or hate me in particular this is going to happen. Whether you join or not
I'm ok with that. I really just wanted to get the word out. This is going to be a thing.

OOC Know that In hold no grudges against any of you. You have all made valid points and I shall take these into consideration. Thank you and bless you by whatever higher power you do or do not believe in. Drive on, RP and continue to have fun!

:p :)

We're led by a triumvirate, yes, but that's apart of our Federation fluff. Now, as you're keen on starting this, and I am in no way telling you not to do this - despite its redundancy - I'll leave a piece of advice that you're more than willing to listen to or ignore. Just do it. Don't toss up an LFG thread until you've got everything in place. Make the faction, and if you do it well - folks will want to join you, depending on how you are Out of Character.

I wish you luck.
