The Finale: Butcher Of Korriban

As Velok had been invited to attend the trial, invited by the Silver Jedi leadership, an ageing Whiphid was in attendance. He wore furs and a small Sith amulet, a necklace of interlocking triangles. From time to time he mumbled to himself.

Aria sat watching, her fists clenched and her body tense with irritation as she listened with growing incredulity to the woman whilst she tried to downsize the gravity of her actions. Was the woman mad? She was admitting her guilt as though being accused of stealing the last biscuit - her words held apology but her delivery held none whatsoever. And still no explanation as to what had led her to give the order, no matter what she said about the heat of the battle or whatever it was that she was using to try and make sense of what she had done. Now she was saying that she would accept death as her sentence while throwing out facts to try and throw them off.

Then it hit Aria - the woman was not afraid; she expected to survive simply due to the nature of her judges. Had she stood trial before any other people, there would have been fear, she might have offered justifications that made some sense instead of throwing out words - instead, she was coolly accepting whatever her sentence would be, safe in the knowledge that so long as her judges were Jedi she was protected from execution. Perhaps there was a flicker of cunning behind the craziness of the woman - she couldn't lose, could she? The Jedi had already been questioned for losing their way since the bombing, and no matter how much letting her live damaged their reputation, killing her would throw the Order into the mud, perhaps forever. They could freeze her carbonite ten times over, throw her into the highest level security prison and throw the prison into a tiny comet in the middle of space, and even then remained the possiblity that one day she would be able to return to the galaxy.

They should just kill her. Now. Conclude the trial, announce the sentence and slice a saber across her throat before she even had time to make sense of what had been said. Aria would even do it herself.

No. Aria was a Jedi, the Grandmaster and Master of the Order were Jedi, even Connor was a Jedi to some extent - if they couldn't remain that way, then the only constant was shattered and the Silver Jedi Order was broken. Charzon Loulan, that villainess, despite everything, would have to win.

But Aria couldn't be there for it.

No matter how important today was for the Order, no matter who was there or what it meant, she wasn't going to watch as the Council struggled over the decision to eventually say what everyone knew they would say, to see the look of victory on the murderer's face as she won. Quietly, discreetly, Aria rose to her feet and left the room.

There were days when she hated being a Jedi.

The heightened reactions from all those in the room only served to demonstrate her own, however Coci sat quietly by the side of her husband and the trail progressed. It was a deadly silence as her eyes scanned over the room and to all those present some of which she did not like the idea of them being here, however that was not important now. Interesting is the messages in dispatches over this event, some voicing support to her from people outside of the faction, others looking to press for influence over the out come which was never to be deemed as important as they do not have the right to set influence over the proceedings in this the Silver Jedi Assembly. Threatened with consequences if the verdict did not go to their liking, which not only is out of place and stupid but in this galaxy where life is cheap, made them no better then Sith in the want for blood for revenge. Weak are those that look to end life as the first option in a case such as this, those that sit and do not bow down to the pressures of others are the stronger as they stick to their mandate. And the Silver Jedi will do just that.

Coci wanted this woman to be accountable for her crimes, wanted for the woman to be sentenced for each and every single life her had extinguished in her so called 'mistake', under the charge of murder, there was more to this as the truth began to spill out of her mouth. Disobeying a direct order from another in authority at Korriban, treason and countless charges to be faced for those injured and living with the consequences of those. Families now without homes and property so on and so on...

As others spoke of their opinions and Charzon answered them in her capacity, it was clear to her that this trail was drawing to a close and it was time for the Assembly council members to convene and discuss the verdict and punishment. The verdict would be simple enough, the punishment .. at least to Coci, was also simple.

Cole cupped his chin with a small sigh as things seemed to settle down a bit. While the tension was still high the outbursts had subsided. Cole passively scanned the crowd before turning back to the main event. Cole was partly confused by the lack of formality in the proceedings and as a result not sure if things were wrapping up or ramping up.

So while he waited he glanced briefly at his guards behind him before he shrugged and went back to scanning the crowd until something happened. He hoped he would actually be able to remain for the entire things but was worried it would continue into the next day. More than anything else Cole was bored................he had being idle unless he was in a Cantina with an ale in his hand.

The old Whiphid shifted impatiently in his chair. He scratched himself. The scent of urine percolated through the nearby seats. He had the grace to look faintly embarrassed, if one had the knack of reading Whiphid expressions.

Thurion made no attempt at preventing the outbursts of the people attending the trial. The accused deserved to hear the grief she's caused from the people directly, and as the others voiced their disgust for [member="Charzon Loulan"]'s actions Thurion took a moment to close his eyes and calm himself. One must not sentence another based on emotion, but rather reason; words uttered to him by his father. It seemed being a good king was not so different from being Jedi, philosophy-wise. Or maybe his mother's teachings had rubbed off on his father in more ways than one. He may never know.

He turned to [member="Coci Heavenshield"] at his side, and his hand found hers for a light squeeze as he offered her a warm smile, albeit a brief one. Thurion then rose from his seat, his hand raised to silence the room.

"Miss Charzon Loulan. You stand accused of genocide, war crimes, and destruction of property on a massive scale. You've pleaded guilty to these crimes. I see no reason to prolong the inevitable." His gaze shifted over to [member="Connor Harrison"] on the floor with the accused, then back to Coci stood beside him, then finally back to Charzon. "The Order of the Silver Jedi and its Assembly hereby sentences you to life imprisonment in a maximum security facility." He then lifted his gaze to everyone present. "Jedi do not believe in an eye for an eye, and we will not spill more blood for the sake of revenge. That can only lead us down a dark path, and I for one would rather die than walk it, for it is a cold and lonely path. I urge each and everyone of you to take these words with you as you leave these halls and think on them."

With a sharp nod sent Connor's way to let him know to take her away, Thurion slumped back into his seat, fingers tapping the armrest once more. "That will be all," he spoke aloud, ending the trial. No doubt there would be a fair few disappointed faces leaving the room, but as of now the Silver Jedi are done with the likes of Charzon Loulan and the tragic events of Korriban.

Connor Harrison

There was no need for Connor to look anywhere else except the prisoner [member="Charzon Loulan"] stood before the Silver Jedi court. [member="Thurion Heavenshield"] started with his sentence, and it was one that didn’t need to be deliberated or decided by the Council. It was crystal clear, and was the only verdict the Jedi could carry out without handing over their right to be Jedi.

Life imprisonment.

Connor gave a heavy sigh. Part of him wishing the order was there for execution. But it was not meant to be.

One place sprang to mind; The Prism, in Wild Space. Surounded by electrical storms and hidden by a moon, it was a prison founded by Jedi and overseen by Jedi, and hopefully it was a place to throw Charzon in and never see her barbaric face or hear her callous attitude again.

Stepping forward, not waiting longer than he had, Connor took her firmly by the arm.

”Let’s go,” he said, a voice that could cut through diamond.

He started to lead her away from the centre of the court to the depths of the chamber, but with enough time for her to plead, cry out, or protest before she went down, never to be seen by most faces in the courtroom again.

Charzon knew that, no matter what she could have to say, she had to come clean, because she knew that SJ justice and due process would mean that she couldn't be executed, unlike the Mandalorians or the Sith, where she would have been killed no matter what, given the crimes she has committed. So she faces [member="Thurion Heavenshield"] and [member="Coci Heavenshield"] one last time, crying out in tears, even though she made her guilty plea while remaining cordial at all times, despite the anger of the attendees. What she was about to say would have had no bearing on the sentencing, due to their irrelevance to the trial, so she kept these declarations she's about to make for after the sentence has been handed down.

"While I accept this fate the Force saw fit to hand me down, there is one point that needs to be brought up that carries implications for the future of the Silver Jedi Order: since my crimes on Korriban happened, donations to the Order are down to the point where the threat of the Order not even being able to carry out its operations looms large. I believe that you're not acknowledging that, while the Order has given much to its Jedi, and to the brave and loyal NFUs that serve and die in its service, they have a duty towards the Order that extend also to the financial aspect, especially if they run corporations with a significant chunk of its business being conducted in Silver Jedi space. The Silver Jedi financial mismanagement must be corrected in short order. Five years before Korriban, I accepted to take part in a raid on Kuat Drive Yards' orbital facility that was an act of corporate warfare which was, at the time, suspected of being a covert Silver Sanctum attack. My plan to put the Order's finances back in a stable condition is actually pretty straightforward. Since some Silver Jedi own and run corporations, especially one [member="Matsu Ike"], and also [member="Sor-Jan Xantha"], who run the largest two corporations owned by Silver Jedi members, I call for special taxes to be levied on Silver Jedi-owned corporations in six brackets, with larger corporations paying accordingly higher tax rates. These taxes are to be levied until the donations return back to normal. Then again, they may never return back to their pre-Korriban levels, but tax rates need to be adjusted in accordance to the donation levels. Unfortunately I'm aware that such a fiscal plan may cause some of the business-owning Jedi to fall to the dark side for the purposes of tax evasion"

Jessica was excommunicated because of Charzon's crimes, more than because of any real corporate wrongdoing on her part. But she feels the time would not be ripe for her to even mention how Jessica was briefly a Silver Jedi, and ran Ringovinda StarYards after Korriban happened, but prior to her excommunication, nor how Catria, Jessica or even herself held a title that was never officially recognized by the Silver Jedi. The truth, however, was that very few Silver Jedi actually ran and owned corporations. [member="Audren Sykes"] was one of them, and according to Charzon's scheme, his corporation would be taxed on the second bracket out of six; there was no one, to her knowledge being taxed on the fifth bracket according to that scheme, while Sasori Research would be the only one taxed on the highest bracket. And, from the standpoint of Ringovinda StarYards, was Ringo Vinda a SJ world, that corporation would be taxed on the fourth bracket.

Akio Diachi

For it was All but a Dream
The sentence was given, and while it was not what Akio had in mind—a life of forced labor—well, it was a wise choice. He hadn’t been there when the bombing took place, but he had seen the images. It was gruesome. Thurion was a wise man of great intuition and a level head, and to be frank, he probably made the choice that was the most fair and just. Akio was glad they had such an even thinker as a leader.

Then…. For some reason… this condemned woman thought she had the right to give some sort of half-brained tirade about taxes. TAXES? She was not only a confessed and condemned prisoner, she was also sentenced to prison and she believed she had the right to give tax reform to the Jedi codes. The Blue Pilgrim gave a face palm and sighed. There was only one real explanation; she had lost her marbles. The life in prison had caused her to completely go over the edge of insanity. He didn’t know why she thought she had the right to call for tax reform after being condemned to life in prison for mass murder. Who did she think she was? And then she called a few names out. Akio could only imagine the reactions of those she called out would resemble something like this:

The Pilgrim shook his head with a sigh and rose, smoothing his armor underlay out. He was sure there was a lesson to be learned in all of this. It took him a moment to unravel it all, but his mind began to formulate a Haiku to convey it:

Quantum is your thing
Genocide is yours as well
Your name is Charzon

Yup, that about summed it up.

Cole returned his active focus to the trial as Thurion stood and spoke. Passing a much expected guilty verdict and then a sentence of Life Imprisonment Cole watched as Charzon was lead away. Standing Cole turned to his own captors.

"Unless I am going to be put on trial next I would like my belongs returned to me and to return to my ship."

It was then that Charzon's opening sentence made him turn back curious as to what would be her first words as a free woman would be. Cole shook his head and chuckled as she chose to apparently try and order taxes raised against the people...........well businesses owned by the same Jedi who took away her freedom. Cole shook his head.

"Who is this woman?"

It was uttered under his breath and not actually a question to be answered by anyone who heard it. Cole turned back to the guards.

"Shall we?"

Unless interrupted Cole would gather his things and depart headed back to Mandalore.

The chiss was sitting there and listening to what was being said as she looked up confused. "Ah wait did she just admit to attacking another planet and claiming she was doing it under the orders of the Silver Jedi?" She said it more to herself and not as loud but she was amazed and trying to... something.. make sense... find reason about how a sentence went to raising taxes to do... She was uncertain and fairly certain there was the taste of copper on her tongue now as the quantum space time effects had to be proof of the multiverse imploding. She was just glad there was something and that if they were lucky it could be done and over with... Maybe as she rose up with the dark purple hair.

Akio Diachi

For it was All but a Dream
It was a rare moment to see another of his race—at all. Of the few he had ever met, his love Dryzl was the one he had the most contact with. The Chiss hadn’t even been raised among his own kind, but was raised by Umbarian assassins. So when he saw another Chiss in attendance, he had to do a double take. Was he having hallucinations again? Akio rose, taking his monk’s spade in hand as he came closer.

He heard her confusion at the declaration of the Mass murderer and her order to reform the tax code of the Jedi. Honestly, the Blue Pilgrim was having a hard time himself making sense of this.

“Perhaps some are truly just insane,” he offered with a half shrug, “I suppose it would make sense for a woman’s mind to degrade after such events—she was not trained and went to war, and was just informed she was going to spend the rest of her days in detention,” he waved his hand to the side in dismissal. “I hope she knows better in her next life than to make such actions.”

Akio gave a half bow, “Excuse me for my manners, I am Akio Diachi, the Blue Pilgrim. No one of consequence. An honor to meet you.”

Very interesting Rianna thought she had listened this whole time, there was some value to be found in acceptance of fate, She could not help but give a soft laugh when the prisoner decided that she could now levy taxes on the Silver Jedi.

Rianna could only shake her head at this, perhaps it was the prisoners way of trying to help but in truth there were very few who would listen to a murderer of thousands. How sad, Rianna hated to see life wasted in such a way. She believed that life was given for a reason this just went against what she believed.

Life imprisonment. Perhaps there the young woman would find some kind of solace to her crimes in that time.

Rianna rose up and slowly slipped away.
