Faction The Family - Epican Reverance

Harvey Denson Harvey Denson

If Denson's angle was making Finn sweat? Mission successful.

He froze up real quick and was about to straight-up bounce before Denson followed up with being dirty. He relaxed almost immediately and laughed at the same time. "Oh, you are cheeky, arentcha." Finn muttered with a shake of his head. "But I shouldn't be surprised the Donna got CSF folk in her pocket, how else does the Family operate on Coruscant so neatly."

The toast was followed by his own.

Again, Finn was only loyal to himself, but self-loyalty meant not being suicidal. You didn't just not say blessings to the Iron (Ivory?) Lady without getting stabbed in the lung, if you were lucky.

"Well, an epic time for one." A grin there at the chitty wordplay. "I am guessing what everyone else brought here. To kiss 'er ring and make sure she knows she got at least one more able hand looking out for her interests." As long as those interests paid money into his pocket anyway. He had even brought a gift with him for Ivory Stroud Ivory Stroud . Nothing so fancy as a bag full of cash, but... something tastful.

If Finn said so himself.

"And you, Detective? How does a lawman go from upholding it to casually prancing about with criminals?" The tease was not accompanied with judgement in the tone however. Finn wasn't in any place to judge anyone.

That stopped being a privilege a dozen or so murders ago.

Harv let loose another chuckle when he saw Finn’s face whiten. It never got old, seeing the Donna’s people react to his day job.

"And you, Detective? How does a lawman go from upholding it to casually prancing about with criminals?"

For the first time this evening, Harvey let out a sigh of disappointment. He tried to keep a plain face, but his dissatisfaction with the CSF goes back farther than he can stomach. Another gulp of whiskey drew out an answer.

“On paper, the Donna offers the same things we do to the people. Safety, protection, prosperity. A future where you don’t need to worry about waking up the next day.”

He cleared his throat, choosing his next words carefully.

“You go into the academy a starry-eyed kid who thinks he can change the world, make Coruscant better. Make it a place where your ma doesn’t have to work two jobs because your dad got hooked on spice.”

“Then you graduate, and case by case, you realize it’s all a pipe dream.”

Harvey kept his eyes on the crowd as he spoke, only turning to Finnegan when another toast to Ivory Stroud Ivory Stroud was raised. He lifted his glass with the rest of them, winking as he said, “Ivory doesn’t let her people down.”

He knocked it back, swallowing the resentment he drummed up with it.

Diocletian had woken early to prepare, and everything was freshly laundered and ready for the formal meal, lye worked wonders in removing blood from leather so that means he didn’t have to fret over matching jackets and trousers. He noticed his hair had started to turn grey, he sniffed in restrained annoyance.

A small blessing in it was he wasn't going bald as Tovald had done as a child. The whole family branch was distraught, they didn't know why it happened but had to be dealt with regardless. Diocletian felt sorry for his brother.

Diocletian sighed in frustration, he is getting old and grumpier. He needed to get there on time so he had to deal with this at a later date. He was on Epica already for an off-the-books job. No questions asked sort of thing, which is why he needed to use 7 boxes of lye.

After getting ready, he made his way to the venue, giving the guard his badge so he would be let in. The bar called him towards it with the promise of a drink for the evening in full supply. The waiter ripped his apron off and threw it to the ground at the sight of the Ubese. Jimmy never forgot the pretzel assault and refused to even do his job.

Diocletian sighed and drank several shots eying the bowl of pretzels with annoyance. They were shimmering with salt, they were sucking moisture out of the air around them and will be preserved for aeons by the looks of it. Go figure.

Some minutes later he made his way to the terraces and where the meal is taking place, staring a goon down on who moved the first confrontation on the stairs. He won, thus able to go the way he wanted to go without hindrance.

He took his seat where one is available.

Jai looked around, taking a breath before hearing a voice, seeming to say he should take a break too, and feeling a touch on his other shoulder. He looked towards the voice, seeing Lliara Daeva Lliara Daeva there. It was definitely a somewhat eerie greeting, but it didn't seem to bother Jai too much in all honesty. All things considered it was closer to normal. She then asked about the refreshments, and he chuckled a bit.

"Not as strong as I'm use to, but good, I'd say." He'd listen and nod a bit as Lliara spoke to Marcella Fiora Marcella Fiora . Yeah. A time to rest before the heavy lifting really began. it'd be nice. Then he noticed Mairéad Solus Mairéad Solus come over, noting that she wouldn't take too much time, and just wanted to ask about how dinner was. Jai smiled a bit, nodding.

"Pretty good, Mai. Got say the place is impressive." He'd then look back over to Lliara, thinking for a moment before speaking up. "Kinda wishing I hadn't listened to Ki'tala now and came a bit more comfortable. So how've you been enjoying Epica?"

Harvey Denson Harvey Denson

He listened thoughtfully to Harvey's tale while pulling out a cigarette.

One look at Denson and then he offered him the packet to get one out as well. Seemed the lad might need it.

"Sounds rough, buddy." It might have sounded a bit sarcastic but nothing could be further from the truth. A murdering grave robber he might be, yes, and yet Finn had a father and a mother once. His story was a little bit more macabre... but empathy was still easily extended. "Well, I dunno, if I were ya I wouldn't put too much faith into anyone's generosity."

Maybe Finnegan was pushing it with this. It wasn't a direct criticism of the Donna, but close to it.

Turning in his seat Finnegan settled his back against the counter of the bar. This gave him a better view of the bar and all it offered. The Family really did know how to properly stock-up a bar, that's for sure.

"The way I see it," He puffed out some smoke and lazily glanced on over to the Detective once more. "Ya can only count on one person when your back is against the wall. That's ya'self, see? Nobody gon' sacrifice their health, happiness or fortune to draw you up. Not for free and often not for payment either."

A grim perspective, but such was Finn's world.

"Depressing chit aside, does this mean that if I ever got a parking ticket on Coruscant I can give ya a call?" A smirk shot his way.

Kera made his way to the bar to order another drink. Being a relative new comer to The Family, he didn’t really know anyone. So, he plonked himself neatly between Finnegan DeWitt Finnegan DeWitt and Harvey Denson Harvey Denson . Carefully interjecting himself into their conversation. “Good night for it boys?” The scarred Chiss said as he slid up to bar. He waved down a bartender and ordered another ale, before stepping back to give the two men back their personal space and round out a triangle of conversation. “Bit of a grim outlook you got there friend, never put it past the naive to help someone out.” He said raising his glass for a cheers. “I got a long Chiss name, but folks just call me Kera.”

Xiann lifted her glass to her lips as Kardek Alpha Kardek Alpha walked by and issued his ‘command’. She took a sip before lowering the glass again, “Well, if that’s all you want, handsome.” A smirk crossed her lips as she returned the wink. Her attention snapped to another person when they spoke to her and what a person they were ( Stardust Solus Skirae Stardust Solus Skirae ). A positive giant of a Twi’lek woman, but it did nothing to hamper her looks, it took all of Xiann’s willpower to suppress her massive urge to throw some sort of flirt at her. Best foot forward for now, “That is the hope.”

The woman at the head of the bosses table then took her turn to speak. “And all these talents are at your disposal now. As for joining you. seeing as the handsome gentleman has already asked for that, we’ll say I still owe you your freebie, shall we?” She beamed a smile to the… what did these folks call her, the Donna ( Ivory Stroud Ivory Stroud )? The Twi’lek watched as the Head walked off to talk to another, she was definitely one to keep an eye on. Info on her was almost as rare as Dedata herself. A mystery for another time. For now Xiann needed to find someone to latch onto and socialise with for the evening. She glanced over those on the rooftop, who will it be…

Nalah had figured a bit of wining and dining with the other guests would be a good appetizer before approaching the lady of the hour, but she was quite pleasantly surprised when Mairéad Solus Mairéad Solus approached her directly to welcome her to the party. The Zygerrian smiled warmly at her host's hospitality and tapped glasses in welcome.

"Thank you, Ms. Solus. I wanted something more formal for the occasion." She smirked over the lip of her glass as she added: "Do I have to say that you look stunning this evening, or is it just understood?"

Slightly corny? Perhaps, but still honest, Mairead did look beautiful in that dress, and complimenting your hostess was never bad policy in Nalah's book.

"Thank you again for the invitation, I think I'm going to enjoy my time here." From what she had seen so far, the Family knew how to operate with plenty of class, and if there was one thing Nalah loved, it was a classy operation.

It was at that point, however, that a rather rugged looking man ( Jai'galaar Gred Jai'galaar Gred ) approached Mairead and greeted her rather informally like an old friend, although how they knew each other was a question Nalah wanted to see answered.

"Well hello there, another associate of Mai's? You have excellent taste in friends." She asked, offering the man a hand. "My name is Nalah Tezan, pleasure to meet you."

The Mirialan leaned in a little closer to Jai'galaar Gred Jai'galaar Gred with a smile. "Let me know your preferences, and perhaps I know someone that can provide." Not at that very moment, but it never hurt for someone to know somewhere they could find a choice drink. Some luxuries in this galaxy were not to be abandoned for whatever one considered 'duty.' Even a woman like herself had a recreational vice or two to counterbalance all the toil.

Speaking of which, a certain handsome face-man had a quip for her ear. A golden eye peered back at Kardek Alpha Kardek Alpha , her smile undisturbed. "I would never." A brief pause. "Too impersonal." And too straight-forward. Everyone suspected poison in the drink. Lliara hadn't lived as long as she had and devised as many ways of killing people as she had to engage in something a rank amateur would do.

Well, unless she needed to kill an entire army. Sometimes the straight-forward approach was best.

Still, wouldn't crashing a space station down on their celebration be more creative? If only a little.

With the man passing, soon it was Mairéad Solus Mairéad Solus offering her welcome to the affair. "No trouble at all. You only need let us know if there is any." Hopefully Mai and the rest weren't foolish enough to keep 'trouble' to themselves. Lliara was many things, but someone that would complain about a celebration being interrupted for duty was not one of them. In fact, she enjoyed her work. Tremendously.

Jai'galaar Gred Jai'galaar Gred turned back to her after the brief procession passed. Lliara faced him again. "Delightful place. I have plans to claim a place of my own. To keep it near. What of yourself? Situated? Plans? And just what did Ki'tala tell you that troubles you so?"

The olive-green woman's eyes rose slightly as a furry creature drifted in closer. "Better than you know," Lliara replied smoothly to Nalah Tezan 's compliment toward Jai. "We haven't met. Engaged in anything interesting?" Should she presume the stereotypes held? The woman looked the sort. Slender. Confident. Could be useful, or could be bothersome. It would depend if the woman thought to steal her conversation partner out from under Lliara. That would be trouble, wouldn't it? Kardek would have genuine cause for concern then.

Reveries, Epica

He would bow his head in acknowledgement as the Assassin accepted his small invitation. He sat down, adjusting himself as he leant back in the chair with his hands folding neatly in his lap - smoothing down the wrinkles out of habit in a bit of a fidget. Unlike most of the other patrons here, he was more than likely one of the few that was without a drink or glass of some kind. “Samuel Exel.” He said, reciprocating the introduction with a hint of amusement in his voice.

“Kardek is quite the eclectic figure,” In idle comment. “But I don’t think I’ve seen your face before. I presume you're under, his group?” It provided a semi-decent segway into conversation, at the very least. “Or maybe a friend?”

Samuel himself was not the greatest at social interaction, this he will admit. Try as he might, there was always a hint of awkwardness. Regardless of that fact, he tried anyway. “Though, if your expression a moment ago was any indication, you don’t seem like one who quite enjoys gatherings like these.” The sentence was accompanied by a soft hum; observance was an important trait for a Bartender, and a variety of other skills.

“So, what brings you here? I wouldn’t blame you if I was correct - I’m not much one for this stuff, either.” In a small jest. Small-talk was a hit-or-miss, so it was good to establish and see if the other individual preferred it or would rather more engaging conversation.

A glance was given to Mairead as she made her rounds with a small smile and a nod, polite ‘Thank-you’s’ before she went on her way. He was all well-rehearsed in the manners and such, though it still felt like he was a fish out of water.

Thayne smirked at Samuel’s mentioning of the Hellmakers, but he refrained from commenting. He wasn’t sure it was wise, even at a Family gathering, to go spouting off about being a member of the galaxy’s deadliest team of killers. Instead, he answered the bartender’s following question.

“It’s nice to make a good first impression,” he said plainly. That was a lie.

He was here for the drinks. Also a lie.

It dawned on him suddenly that he wasn’t really sure what possessed him to fly to Epica and rub elbows with the Family’s finest. Maybe he just wanted company? To be a part of something… of anything?

He took another sip of wine. Wash away the thoughts. Assassins don’t need friends. Ghosts haunt the world alone.

“How about you?” Thayne asked, adjusting the focus of the conversation. The less he spoke about himself, the less he’d have to admit.

Jai couldn't help but smile a bit at the question. "Usually go for the strong stuff. I was... raised around I guess." He would then chuckled a bit at Lliara Daeva Lliara Daeva 's reply to the quip from Kardek Alpha Kardek Alpha . Though... earing drinks wouldn't be poisoned was still something of a comfort. Really, despite the suit, it was nice to relax a bit and be able to unwind in a way he couldn't usually do. The assassin seemed to be enjoying herself too, noting that she had plans to set up something on the world before asking Jai what he had planned, and what Ki'tala had said.

"Well, working on a shipping yard out on one of the rivers. Got a couple of amphibious starships, and some contract pilots from around the place. Not much but it's something." He chuckled a bit, thinking how to answer the second part. "As for Ki'tala... well she's my ship's engineer. A Jawa with a lot of tech knowhow. And... well she's the one who convinced me to wear the suit. Would've rather been a bit more comfortable, but her... attempts at being a wingman are a lacking." He sighed a bit thinking about it. But it wasn't really a sad one. It was nice to know Ki'tala was trying to something for him, no matter how "effective" it was.

He then saw Nalah Tezan , who asked if he knew Mairéad Solus Mairéad Solus , and noted his taste in friends. Jai couldn't help but blush slightly as Lliara mentioned this as well before speaking up once she had finished. "I'm... Jai'galaar. Good to meet you as well Nalah. Kinda curious like my friend here too."

Kardek smirked, taking a sip of his drink and offering a playful wink to the Twi'lek, choosing to let her interpret that as she will.

Mairéad Solus Mairéad Solus said:
"And congratulations to you for out dressing us all."

Kardek bowed playfully with a smirk, "I try." He teased. "You look great yourself." As she came in closer to whisper something, the man leaned in a bit as well, turning his ear...

Mai said:
"And trying to woo your superior... how shocking..."

He scoffed in amusement at the irony of such a playful accusation coming from Mai of all people. He turned his head back towards her, his piercing eyes looking into hers as he raised an eyebrow, "You're one to talk, aren't you." It was more a statement than an inquiry, his tone was playful yet carried an element of seriousness in it as well. His eyes drifted up to Marcella Fiora Marcella Fiora , then back to Mai, as if she didn't already know who he was referring to. Then a light smile flashed across his lips as she went to move on to other guests, "Good to see you to."

The Demone Superiore smirked, nodding in approval as a seat was provided for him by the Emerald Dragon. He sat down next to her, straightening his suit a bit and cracking his neck to one side. They did look quite exquisite together, with matching red and black themes outfits. Kardek got the attention of one of the waiters, motioning for both his and Stardust Solus Skirae Stardust Solus Skirae 's glasses to be topped off.

He had returned the glancing smile received by the Donna. She looked every bit the leader of a thriving Syndicate. Kardek hoped to engage Ivory Stroud Ivory Stroud in conversation once she returned to her seat.

Kardek took note of Samuel Exel Samuel Exel 's presence, offering him a pleasant smile and a raising of his glass from across the table. He seemed engaged in conversation, and so did not desire to interrupt. It was unfortunate that they hadn't gotten much of a chance to connect since that one night at the bar. Life always seemed to be moving, and quickly at that. Hopefully soon they would be able to talk again.

Kardek nodded respectfully at Diocletian Kahmen’’a Diocletian Kahmen’’a as he joined the party. It was good to see him. He then turned his attentions back to Stardust Solus Skirae Stardust Solus Skirae , leaning a bit towards her as he spoke in a manner more private in nature, "The Family is growing. And we will protect them." Kardek raised his glass to Star, clinking it against hers as he then took another drink. He turned and surveyed the gathering once again, "Would it be terribly uncultured of me to enjoy a smoke?"

So how've you been enjoying Epica?"

"My word, this planet is so beautiful, I haven't managed to explore much yet but some mechanic managed to hook me up with an old wheeled bike its pretty cute." she grinned and turned to Nalah Tezan , blushing a little but enjoying the complement.

"Do I have to say that you look stunning this evening, or is it just understood?"

She laughed gently, "Of course you don't have to say it, but who doesn't enjoy hearing such a complement." she sipped from her drink calmly and looked around the room, who to introduce her too first, she gestured at a few of the others, she would not give too much information about each of her associates and bosses, just pointing out a few key faces. "Jai here and me have known each other a while now, he's a good guy."

The main courses were about to come out. "I'm guessing the steak?" she grinned to her zygerrian associate, famously carnivorous, she couldnt imagine a Zyggy passing up on a beautiful Epican steak. She herself was having the fish and her mouth watered at the thought of it. "We will have to get another dance after meal." She said to Nalah as she took her seat and waited for the service to begin. The food was exquisite, the chef had excelled himself and everyone's dishes had come out looking lovely, she knew the man tended to cook a little on the rarer side, but the quality of the Yharwod meat demanded nothing but the lightest touch on the grill.

"Bon apertit, my friends" she said with a huge smile.

“Like you said,” Harv joked with a coy smile, “I don’t scratch backs for free.”

He parted his lips to carry on, but held his tongue as a new face joined them at the bar. Harvey took half a step to the side to give Kera some space, taking a brief interest in what the man was ordering. Ale was never his drink of choice, his favorites being those that were strong and easily blended into a hot cup of coffee, but he wouldn’t turn down a pint if he were thirsty enough.

“Nice to meet you, Kera,” the Detective said with a friendly nod before turning his eyes back to Finnegan DeWitt Finnegan DeWitt .

“I never said I trusted the Donna,” Harvey continued his thoughts from before, speaking a bit lower now as he went.

“She’d drop me in a heartbeat if our mutually beneficial arrangement became any less… mutual.”

“Nah, the way I see it, Ivory knows what this galaxy needs, and she’s got the balls to deliver it. Just so happens I agree with her vision, so as long as she throws me a bone here and there, I do the same for her.”

Give-and-take, dog-eat-dog, whatever you want to call it - Harvey was sitting pretty these days, and he wasn’t about to buck the system. You play the game, you go home, and you pass out with a cold beer in your hand and a few extra Credits in your pocket.

At least, that’s how Harvey did it.

"Then I'll say it again for good measure, you look great." Nalah was glad to see Mairéad Solus Mairéad Solus approved of her fashion assessment, if her coy reply and reddened cheeks was anything to do by. There was something deeply pleasant about Mairead's laugh, besides the fact that it meant she was keeping her new boss happy. Her two other partners in this conversation, on the other hand, were an entirely different matter, as Jai'galaar Gred Jai'galaar Gred and Lliara Daeva Lliara Daeva seemed to have a much closer connection with their hostess than she did. A fact that maybe, just possibly, ever so slightly, got under her skin, although she didn't show it, she just smiled pleasantly and chuckled.

"I'm a more recent associate of Ms. Solus, but I'm eager to get involved in her affairs." She replied coolly over her glass before taking a sip. "What about you two, I'd be very interested to hear what you're engaged in."

Jai had the look of a man who could strip, clean, and reassemble a blaster blindfolded, a useful person to know in case any Family business took a violent turn, and Mairead's personal recomendation was excellent as well. Lliara, on the other hand, just looked like trouble, but whether that was good trouble or bad trouble remained to be seen, and Nalah aimed to find out before the night was over. It was just then, however, that succulent scent of wood-smoked Epican steak wafted over the room, causing her fur to bristle with unconstrained excitement. Mairead was right, Nalah loved a good steak, and that smelled like particularly excellent steak.

"Yes, steak." She replied, master of wordplay that she was, before snapping back to focus at the mention of a dance. "I'm going to hold you to that, Ms. Solus."

"Shall we take this discussion to the dinner table?"
Nalah turned to Jai and Lliara, interested to see if they would like to discuss their business further.

A chuckle.

"I will be sure to have a credit chit or hundred on me whenever I am on Coruscant then." Finn teased in return. Now that's something he could understand. The veneer of comradery and family was foreign to him. Cold cash and favors exchanged? That was familiarity. Their conversation was interrupted by a newcomer.

Finn shifted to give the man some space and raised his glass to him.

"I prefer calling it targeted realism, buddy." Grinning there as he sipped from his glass again. "But yar right. There be plenty o' folk that wanna help an' get stabbed for their efforts. Name's Finnegan DeWitt, usually folks call me either Finn or 'That Arsehole Who Stole My Money'."

Hence the reason why he didn't ever help anyone unless it benefited him in some way.

At least then if he got stabbed it was on his own terms.

"So, what is this vision then? Everyone keeps talking about it like I oughta know." Which... maybe Finn should have if he was here. But when you were chasing a credit into an establishment you didn't particularly stop to talk philosophy or lifestyle. You just wanted to snatch the chit and shove it into your own pocket.

Fair's fair, right? But Finn was curious.

"And how about ya, Kera. You also an ardent to the Donna's philosophy for da Galaxy? Family an' profits an' mutual agreeable self-interest?"

Reveries, Epica

Noting the small smirk that was uncommented upon by the latter, the man merely acknowledged it with a, “I’ll take that as a ‘yes.’”

This statement was followed by the man’s reasoning for showing up here in the first place. He recognized that certain curtness in his voice. Either the man didn’t like small-talk, or he didn’t like answering questions in general. It was something he would do often, himself - keep it brief, let others that want to talk do the talking.

…Or he was just really bad at making small talk in the first place. Which was a very real possibility. The Bounty Hunter didn’t think he was the most engaging conversation partner.

After taking a moment to quirk a brow at the shift of topic back onto himself, he rested his arms on the table. “...Much the same reason as that mentioned one, I suppose. Minus the ‘first.’” He mused, “Or, that would be one of them. I don’t quite know all of them.” In contrast to the assassin, Samuel was rather forthright about as to his own lack of reasoning for being here. Impressions did not matter the most to him. He had already made his first, and while keeping employers happy was important, that more so pertained to results rather than attending get-togethers. No, instead, “Maybe I was curious to see if there was an off chance I met anyone to talk to. Get the feeling for the crowd that is corralling around this little community over here. Awareness is usually a good practice.”

Underneath the table, legs cross in another idle motion, fidget, whatever it could be called or perceived as. “I’m not really much a judge for character, though.” Spoken in a coy tone, attempting to impart a light-hearted jest. “So I just have to see for myself what some people are like.”

With another adjustment in his seat, “Personally, I’m not usually one for these sorts of things. You?”
