OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: Terminal City
  • Classification: Ecumenopolis
  • Location: Terminus
  • Affiliation: Free Spacers Guild
  • Population: Crowded
  • Demographics: Extremely Diverse
  • Wealth: Wealthy. Terminus is the largest port world in the Western Reaches. Where the far ends of the Hydian Way and Corellian Trade Spine meet all manner of commerce pours into the system from every corner of our galaxy and even beyond. Nearby Crusader's Way provides access to Hutt Space commerce as well as the Rishi Maze. The Nagai Trade Spine winds through the region marking Terminus as one of the few markets in the galaxy with goods from exotic Firefist.
  • Stability: Low. The city has more in common with Nar Shaddaa than Coruscant. Planetary defense is outsourced to hired OPA crews and other mercenaries. There is a Terminal City Constabulary but its officers are corrupt and poorly trained. Hired investigators are often the only reasonable option for addressing a grievance. Justice like everything else on Terminus is more or less privatized.
  • Freedom & Oppression: Terminus is barely above a state of anarchy. Only trade keeps it functioning without a complete breakdown in law and order. It is a common saying that 'there are no laws on Terminus, just cops'. Whether bought and paid for by the trade guilds, big business, or organized crime their purpose is to make sure the industry is protected not the people. Civil liberties are high and the local HoloNet is filled with all brands of garbage programming representing thousands of opinions on thousands of subjects with plenty of corporate advertisements.
  • Description: Terminal City is known for its exotic domes, sculpted columns and gothic arches. Its skylanes buzz with unending traffic of ships by every description. Spaceports both large and small are scattered all across the upper levels. It is a melting pot of countless species being the most populous urban center for several sectors. Industry rages and a distinct culture of space pilgrims has formed out of the diasporic gestalt.
Like other city worlds it is broken up into various districts or Wards, however it is an unplanned ecumenopolis and designed by as many alien intelligences as near-human thinkers. Instead of contiguous regions Terminal City's districts are like snaking tentacles all vying for a dominant position. Some wards completely encircle portions of others. Some wards vary from level to level. There is no logical layout to anything. Only the lower levels are consistent in their relative squalor.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • MARKET WARD (Trade District)
    8RQU3nM.png
  • GUILD WARD (Political District)
  • THE SPRAWL (Residential District)
    • Terminal Docks - Smaller spaceport in a state of mild disrepair.
    • Gus Treta - Predominantly human/near-human sector and largest piece of the ward.
    • Little Sullust - Excavated from one of the planet's last standing mountains. Not only Sullustans but a variety of subsurface dwelling creatures.
    • The Aquarium - A large hydrostatic field bubble filled with imported ocean water is maintained for the sake of Mon Cal, Quarren, and other aquatic locals.
    • Bugtown - Mostly Rodians and Trandoshans but a large variety of reptilian and insectoid species make their home here.
    • New Ryloth - There is a large enough twi'lek disapora to justify their own community separate from Gus Treta.
    • Ithorian Gardens - Wherever they go the Ithorians bring a little bit of nature with them. The Gardens are an oasis of nature infused with architecture for those uncomfortable in all this urban squalor.
    • Mandalorian Covert - There is a mandalorian settlement here if you know where to look for one.
  • SCRAP WARD (Industrial District)
  • UNDERCITY (Lower Levels)
    • Red Light Ward - Countless shops, hab units, spice dens, and brothels under contested gang control.
    • Terminus Underhive - Massive OPA command facility.
    • Lone Star Agency - Investigative firm. Guild accredited.
    • Horizon Tech - The garage beneath Yula Perl's flat. Also a droid manufacturer.
    • Tricks of the Trade - A small specialty workshop that designs high end mercenary gear.
    • Swoop Shops - Gang central.
    • Fighting Pits - Not just pits. Arenas and cages too. All kinds of fights for all kinds of stakes.
SECURITY
  • Low - Some security presence at spaceports and other large enterprises. The upper levels are patrolled to disincentivize open violence. Other than docking fees the planet has very little regulation. There are no laws on Terminus, just cops.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Terminus has always been a port world. The foundations of its cityscape were a series of ever expanding spaceports to rival the great works of early cultures. It was built up piecemeal over thousands of years until its transformation into the young ecumenopolis it is today. Terminal City is blessed by geography. Situated at a hyperlane nexus the likes of which very few exist in our entire galaxy the system receives commerce from anywhere and everywhere. Although it has flirted with democracy and corporatocracy in the distant past for most of its history the planet has been managed by trade council.

An early Galactic Alliance hub, when war with the First Order dragged on a growing isolationist movement petitioned for Terminal City's right to secede. Outer Rim Coalition representatives were selected as mediators and thus began their relationship which would culminate after the GA's fall when an Imperial pacification fleet sought to test the system's so called neutrality. The uprising on Terminus drove it firmly into Coalition hands and cemented the world's legend as a hive of rebel scum and villainy. After the Colichemarde incident it was ground zero of the Coalition's genesis into an Outer Planets Alliance.
