Born from the insidious genius of Darth Carnifex Darth Carnifex , Taeli Raaf Taeli Raaf , and the mechanical brilliance of Lord Thaumaturge Prospero, the Sutta-class Sith Battlecruiser was the next evolutionary step in Carnifex's grand design for galactic conquest. Constructed entirely in the automated shipyards of Malsheem, and built upon over a decade of research and experimentation by the Sith's most gifted minds, the Sutta was heralded as the ultimate expression of power projection and terror.
Measuring in at three-thousand meters from prow to stern, the Sutta was not the largest ship ever produced by the Sith, but it made up for that deficit in technology more advanced than anything utilized by the Sith prior to this moment. The Sutta's crew complement was drastically reduced with the advent of advanced automation and simplification of internal systems. Simplified bridge displays with limited colors further aided bridge crews to disseminate large amounts of complicated data quicker than before, with fleet technicians manning turbolaser batteries and other weapon systems aided by Tsudakyr drones and overminds which improved accuracy and rate of fire.
The inclusion of Tsudakyr improved many of the onboard systems found on the Sutta and allowed more conventional naval officers to focus on strategy and tactics rather than general maintenance or more mundane positions.
Arming the Sutta involved the installation of hundreds of weapon systems, the most striking of which was the axial reactor-fed supercharged laser cannon. Based on the designs pioneered on vessels like the Behemoth II and Goliath II, the Sutta's prow-mounted cannon was fed directly by the warship's isotope-5 reactor. The energy produced by the reactor was harnessed and channeled through amaranth crystals, which increased the output of the energy by a multiplier of twenty, before being launched from the barrel of the cannon. A small almost inconsequential tracer beam was used to guide the destructive beam of energy towards its target, which would be used as the vector by which stronger and more destructive energy pulses would travel towards the target and explode when they reached the end of the beam.
The drawback of using such a powerful weapon was twofold. Firstly, all other weapon systems could not be operated while the primary gun was firing, creating a potential risk hazard during this short window. Secondly, the weapon itself was connected directly to the Sutta's reactor. Significant damage to the weapon could create a chain-reaction leading to the reactor core, causing the ship to suffer critical damage and systematic destruction of the entire warship.
Other weapon systems included; fifteen-hundred turbolaser batteries, seven-hundred ion cannons, one-hundred-and-sixty-five point defense laser cannons, one-hundred-and-ninety flak guns, one-hundred variable ordnance warhead launchers, and sixty gravity mine layers. The majority of these weapon systems were fully automated through Tsudakyr drones, although the more powerful weapons also included non-automated gunners alongside Tsudakyr. These gunners were hooked up to their equipment via specialized neurocrowns, fully immersing the gunner in the control of their weapon.
The Sutta featured two small lateral hangar bays for personal shuttles but was otherwise lacking a large hangar bay. This was intentional as the Kainate began to focus more on maneuverability and decentralization of fleet assets. Each starship of the Kainate was lightspeed capable and could move independently of carriers, and thus the warships of the Kainate went without space for fighter complements and other ships except executive shuttles and other personal officer vessels. A single Sutta was garrisoned by a division of ten-thousand strand-cast soldiers. The officer crew of each Sutta was not artificially created, but rather chosen from among the Kainate's privileged upper class of cultists who suicidally worship the Sith'ari.
Eight medium ion drives and one large ion drive propelled the Sutta through realspace, while a class one hyperdrive was installed as the secondary means of moving through hyperspace. Unlike conventional starships, each Sutta warship was staffed by a group of Sith known as Navigators. These Navigators had specialized in the arcane mysteries of the Dark Side and commanded great power over instinctive astrogation. By sealing themselves in meditation spherecraft hooked up to the primary systems of the Sutta, the Navigators could pool their power and collectively open up hyperspace wormholes to other locations in the galaxy. This allowed the Sutta to move unrestrained by hyperlanes. The command module of the Sutta, which included the bridge, could be detached from the rest of the warship in the event of potential destruction. This module was outfitted with an advanced one-point-five class hyperdrive to facilitate the officer crew's escape.
Barracks, med centers, and various other locations were evenly spread through the Sutta's interior. An advanced repulsor-tram system allowed for the quick movement of crew and troops from one corner of the battlecruiser to the other. Override controls for the tram system were located at a recessed operations bunker deep within the battlecruiser's interior. A brig was also maintained for potential prisoners to be interred within.
Much like Malsheem, the Sutta also carried with it multiple onboard production facilities which could fabricate most anything the crew or the ship itself would need. Garments, droids, armor, and weapons could be produced in this manner. All that was required was raw materials, which were easily accessible through asteroids or wreckage pulled into the zero-space bay near the bridge tower via tractor beams and then broken down before being processed through molecular furnaces. These furnaces could rearrange the molecular composition of matter, transmuting otherwise worthless debris into raw building materials. Droid-operated assembly lines could then use the collected raw material and configure it into new products.
The soldiers of the Sutta itself could be easily replaced as well through onboard exowombs, which were programmed to produce certain strains from a genetic matrix.
As the Kainate grew in strength, more and more of the Sutta-class Sith Battlecruiser were produced to replace the conventional warships borrowed from the Sith Empire. Often, the Kainate would break down decommissioned warships to repurpose their various components to build new Sutta warships. Though the majority of these new vessels were kept far from the public eye, several were dispatched across the Sith Empire's territory to aid in combat operations during the Third Imperial Civil War and the Sith Schism.
