OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
HYPERLANE INFORMATION
HYPERLANE CHARACTERISTICS
  • Speed: Average (overall). This varied based on the part of the route one was in. Hazards to navigation around Bespin required reduced speed (Low to Very Low) in order to safely navigate Velser's Ring, the increased traffic congestion from the interchange with the Ison Trade Corridor, and interference from the Twin Nebulae. A ship captain could make up the time by increasing speed (Average to High) between Karra and Needan. Speed restrictions leading to the exit at Dosuun required approach at Low speed prior to dropping out of hyperspace.
  • Accessibility: Public. This is a commercial highway bridging the Corellian Trade Spine to the economic capital of the First Order. Subspace relay stations and navigational buoys clearly mark the route, which piggybacks onto the Ison Trade Corridor before diverting at Bespin toward Dosuun. Corellia Digital super freighters routinely pass along the route, with patrols conducted by the First Order Navy.
  • Route Hazards: Travel through the Anoat Sector was associated with navigational difficulties created by the presence of the Ivax Nebula -- continuing difficulties encountered in the adjacent sector of the Corellian Trade Spine caused by the Twin Nebulae (of which, Ivax forms one half). Additionally, passage through the Bespin System required careful plotting to account for the Velser's Ring asteroid field. This required older model navi-computers to drop to sublight for navigational checks and track alignment with orbital drift. Pirates were known to operate in this area, taking advantage of the sensor obfuscation to ambush transports and freighters.
  • Rest Stops: At the junction of the Ison Trade Corridor and the Southern Imperial Trade Route, Bespin's Cloud City is the last major economic exit or stop on the hyperlane before Dosuun. The stretches of space between the various inhabited systems is vast and there were no shipyards save for meager maintenance depots at Absit and Needan.
DESCRIPTION
The Southern Imperial Trade Route was the Silk Road of the 860s ABY.

Connecting Dosuun to the Ison Trade Corridor and Corellian Trade Spine, this was the arteries of the First Order economy -- allowing mercantile goods to be traded internally, such as between Dosuun and Anoat, as well for the import and export of goods between the FIrst Order and the adjacent economies, to include the planetary economies of the Karrans, Geelans, and Yatir. The hyperlane was built out of necessity, with the First Order government establishing its political connections to extend its influence from Dosuun to Bespin, while simultaneously inviting companies from the Confederacy and the Core Worlds to conduct business on Dosuun. The Southern Imperial Trade Route was the result, and had the benefit of connecting several key economic assets: The tibanna gas operation at Cloud City, the vamigio mines of Karra, as well as the mining operations on Absit. For this reason, the Mineral Assets Partnership advocated heavily for the hyperlane's use.

The Southern Imperial Trade Corridor ran along the galactic east/west, with the interchange at Bespin and Varonat affording routes north/south, as to include as far as the Core Worlds. This enabled trade with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Corporate Authorities of Denon, and Galactic Alliance (by means of the connecting Corellian Trade Spine). Goods could then be moved along adjacent routes to allow for trade with the galaxy writ large. The space around Varonat was neutral, and not subject to First Order jurisdiction, whereas all parts of the route from Bespin to Dosuun were under the jurisdiction of the First Order (at least as of 864 ABY). Sector patrols were visible, to include freedom of navigation patrols in the vicinity of Varonat, but slavers and pirates still maintained an active presence, operating shadowports in the region.
