He was deep in his note writing, so at first Samson did not realize he was being sized up.

Only once Madalena sat down did Sam look up.

Blinked and studied her for a moment.

This might be the moment that Madalena realized just how large the man sitting opposite was. It had been misleading, because of Samson hunched down and scribbling. Once he straightened up? He positively dwarfed anyone around them. "Oh, hello, thank you for joining me." Samson said politely, inclining his head to her. He offered his own smile. It only made the scarring around the sides of his head stretch out more. Ugly scars, ritualistic, nothing precise about it like someone had just taken a piece of metal and started carving.

"I am called Samson. I am a doctor, educated at the Coruscant Medical Center, pleased to meet you miss Madalena." A glance at the offered onions, before scribbling something down in his notebook once more. "I heard that the consortium of rebels were on the move and I was interested to see what that would look like. Very fascinating."

A pause there in the middle of his scribbled sentence.

Looking up at her.

The chair groaned at his body's shift. It was most definitely not made for a man of his size. He looked like an adult in a child's chair, except that the chair was for adults and he was a giant.

"What sort of wild things do you hunt, miss Madalena?" Curious look. By the looks of it he was entirely serious in his questioning.

His smile stretched his scars out. Madalena's smile warmed at that. Her own face was scarred as well - recently so. A lapse of judgement had her blow up a certain altar on Ryloth without having her face protected, something that had caused it, quite literally, to fall off. It had more or less been glued back on with the power of science and the Force, but the lines and marks stretched across her face and neck, sometimes even lighting up when she became overly angry or wanted to intimidate someone. In the first days, she had been unable to look at herself, as her looks had been a corner of pride for the woman, though she'd since adjusted, and now sort of loved them.

Still, the skin grafts that were being worked on could not come soon enough. She longed to have her scar-less face back as soon as possible.

His height did not frighten her; she herself was a large woman, and if anything, it was refreshing to be in the company of someone who didn't get dwarfed by her presence.

Coruscant Medical Center? Had they attracted the attention of someone all the way from the Core? She raised her eyebrow ever so slightly, listening to the man speak.

"This mobile station isn't a great example of what we look like, it's just doing some exploration stuff," she said warmly, grinning again, "If you wish to see what we are capable of when we're not liberating planets, you should come to the Scintilla itself. Eve is a marvel to behold, and we have several spheres that can only be considered technological breakthroughs."

And of course… What sort of things did she hunt? "I specialize in infiltration, dealing with the paranormal, and alternate dimensions," she answered. That last one was relatively new… But there was no need to explain that just yet. "I also make sure we get to bring all the boys back home."

Grabbing an onion ring, she dipped it in some mayo before chewing on it. It was good. And it also had to be completely cleared before she could touch the hamburger.

"What about you?" Madalena asked, "What's your field within the Medicine industry?"

A tilt of the head there, considering that invitation for a few moments, before nodding.

"I believe that would interest me, yes. Perhaps once the expedition here is done I will return with it to the... capital." It was still a strange idea to Samson that a nation could have its capital on a large space station. Very out of the ordinary, but that only made it more interesting in his mind. Her own scars were only given a passing glance.

It did not really elicit a response from Samson.

Clearly some sort of battle, clearly something had gone wrong, but the giant did not intrude there. They all had their reasons for the scars they carried as far as he was concerned.

"Truly? Alternate dimensions? That sounds quite exciting. What was the last one you explored?" He inquired, while opening up a new page in his notebook and looking excitingly at her. It was not every day he met an intrepid explorer of alternate dimensions. In fact, Samson had not even realized it was a wide possibility to such a degree it could be chattered about casually. The only time Sam personally was aware of, was when his mother and creator had died and then returned from the Netherworld.

But then confusion settled into his expression.

"You only ensure the return of the boys? But what happens to the girls then?" Taking her quite literally at her word. Oh, Samson was far better at the play of words than in his younger years, but sometimes... well... you see what happens.

"Oh, I am a surgeon, nothing especially fancy. There are far better specialists out there." Samson demurred, while thinking about Farah Farah and I Irajah Ven , now those were actual experts in the field.

In the Darkness there is Truth
Somewhere far away on a nondescript trivial transport common across the rim, a Twi'lek Sith Lady who was more machine than organic observed the stuff that had been going in the thread. Because she was a Master, she also used the chance to educate her minion. Or just plain lecture her. "What is balance in the Force?"
Nur Jahan, her Mon Calamari minion, snorted. "An absurd Jedi prophecy about how their saviour would overcome the darkness."

Libertas chuckled. "Don't dismiss it out of hand just because the source is so...ignorant."
"It is fitting that, of all things, the so-called chosen one was only supposed to wipe out the Jedi's enemies? End the oppression of the rim at the hands of the Core? Aid Coruscant's downtrodden and purge the corporate tyrants? No. Maybe the Force wanted him to wipe out the Jedi. They had their thousand years in the sun."

"Accurate, and yet only part of the picture. Existence is struggle. We Sith strengthen ourselves by facing adversity and overcoming. As do the Jedi. Would Luke Skywalker have attained the power he did if he spent all his life in a cave peacefully meditating? Balance - true balance that is - consists of strong Sith facing strong Sith. A victory over a weakling is no sign of strength. It only makes us indolent, corrupt and weak."

"Like many present powers," Nur Jahan remarked.
Libertas smiled thinly. "Exactly. Stagnation has long been the rule of the game." They had served the cause by pitting Libertas' wayward ex-apprentice against Firemane's complacent Corporate Queen. Alas, the cub had gotten between the Sith and her prey. But all three would never forget this confrontation...and would pursue each other.
"Is this why you are interested in these...Agents of Chaos?" Nur Jahan looked sceptical. "They are random anarchists with no rhyme or rhythm to their actions."

"Precisely. I do not care for their ideology. Frankly, it strikes me as an excuse to throw bombs and cause devastation out of nought than spite. But they have shaken things up. They have tested the self-indulgent Business Sith, as these so-called New-Imperials test the Empire. In that regard, they are useful. And if there is one thing few Jedi or Sith are...then it is useful."

Whether it was a sale or an agreement about coming to see the capital, Madalena wasn't certain, but it didn't keep her from nodding and offering, "I could show you around if you're interested," with a friendly smile.

But when he opened his notebook and began to ask about the alternate dimensions, she could not help but loft a brow. Of course. Scientists. She had, at first, wanted to keep the whole alternate dimension thing more or less under covers, but since she still couldn't fully control it, there had been more than enough people who'd seen her open the portals up. It was just a matter of time before it would be considered public knowledge anyway.

"As far as I'm aware, most dimensions don't really name themselves," she laughed, "but I don't actually go in to explore them. Not yet, anway. I've only made two jumps this far; from my home dimension into this one, and from this one into… Well honestly, I don't know almost anything about the one I was in for a bit, except that what happened to my face happened there. But I open portals left and right, and I'm still trying to figure out how to control where they go. It's a process."

It was also a long story. Madalena hadn't originally been born here in this reality, but it would take quite a few hours to go through her story, and while Samson seemed nice so far, he wasn't close enough to hear it all just yet. Nothin wrong with giving small tidbits in the meantime though.

"It's a saying," she laughed again, "Getting the boys back home pretty much refers to everyone. I have a good tendency to have the highest rates of bringing combatants back home alive. Had it everywhere that I served. Dying for a cause isn't always worth it."

Now her glowing green eyes moved down - to look at his notebook. The clicking was slow, but now Madalena realized he'd had it already when she sat down. Another onion ring made it into her mouth as she thought about it for a moment.

"So what have you been writing down about us so far?" she asked, nudging the tray a wee bit towards him, wondering if he'd take an onion ring or not.

“Fifty souls? How long have you been...here?” Bella responded to the commander. The implications of the numbers flashed within her mind as the man spoke, his voice tired, yet relieved and elated in speaking to her. Based on the dating information her craft's data-brains had inferred from the sensor readings, he had almost certainly been there for over eighteen months, and possibly longer. If she accomplished anything today, she wanted to make sure that the Armada brought him and his crew to safety. To that end everything the man said was being patched back to the Happy Tree Friends, hopefully keeping whatever personnel and officers on the bridge abreast of the situation, she also needed to maintain contact with them in order to verify the information herself, especially since her life form scanners had only indicated two signatures. However, the fact that the remaining were in cryosleep explained why her scanners had failed to pick them up.

“Okay umm...Commander? Search and rescue should be arriving within a couple hours.” Bella continued. As she spoke, she went through the standard emergency assistance procedures, which included patching emergency personnel on the Scintilla into her feeds as well. Fifty people in cryo was a lot, and would potentially necessitate the deployment of an Ashla-class from the Scintilla. The medical bay on the Happy Tree Friends, while large, wouldn’t be able to deal with an influx of that many patients without having to initiate triage procedures. They also didn’t have any search and rescue ships within the main hangar.

“Help is on the way, Commander.” Bella said in relief, when the confirmation messages pinged back from the Scintilla, indicating the deployment of a number of small search and rescue vessels and a single Ashla-class medical frigate. “For the time being, hold tight and don’t wake anyone up. There are trained personnel on the way who can safely perform the de-icing procedures. Also, if you have any dire cases, mark them as priority so that the teams know who to attend to first. It shouldn't be long.”

Jai just sat there in the cockpit, scratching his head. How... how did they? He switched his comm frequency so that these newfound survivors couldn't hear him. Jai knew creepy, mostly cause he'd use creepy, but this.... How....? "Not to discount these guys, but... how do you survive that long in a hulk? I mean, I guess I'm one to talk living in a sewer for months, but.... Wouldn't the stores spoil by now?" The Mando just couldn't shake the bad feeling about all of this. It just didn't seem right.

The screen flared to life and cut him off, a single incoming message informing him that the emergency group had been contacted. Eyes glossed over the screen, scanning for information. First Order Fleet. Life signs even after two years. Fifty cryo-sleepers aboard. The ships couldn't be in that great a shape being adrift with no resupply or maintenance. This was likely to be a delicate spot.

He wondered quietly just how bad the spot could be. Could be they miraculously made it through with minimal damages. Or the opposite. The group was in an asteroid field, so large ships were out of the question...or where they? He stood, slamming the drink in one large gulp before pushing a comm link and finding the signal.

"Send the recovery team asap. Get me two monarchs and the lullaby. We need to clear that asteroid belt of debris so nothing can hide in it." Dimitri called over the line, sending the message to the mess and Rimes both. The emergency team went ahead of the other three vessels, the usual starfighter attachments being removed for the possibility to use the space for recovery purposes.

Sasmay leaned forward, thinking about her own times in space. "Unless they stored the goods in the vacuum. Would save them for a minute due to the cold so long as it hadn't started molding. Lot's of use for empty space when you aren't moving." Sasmay offered over the comm to Jai'galaar Gred Jai'galaar Gred . That had been one trick rather than running the systems aboard the transport she currently owned.

When she wasn't the owner that is.

People used the trick sometimes to reduce their energy signature when waiting someone out, or when they were hiding. Remove the perishables, put them in space to let the lack of oxygen and unending cold help. Was a mixed bag obviously, as you had to wear a space suit to go get said goods after that. "More concerned with how they have had power for this long. Or water..." The pair of lifesign's had to be in absolutely horrid shape given the length of time they had been adrift.

"What do we do in the meantime?" She asked in general over the comms.

Alwine rose from her seat and walked over to where the holomaps were being displayed near the controls. They had opened enough distance between the Scintilla and where they currently were. She saw absolutely no reason to continue forth; the more time they spent moving forward, the more they were going to have to invest, and the gains' worth would subside with every few lightyears.

"I believe this is far enough," she said after pressing the comms, "We can expand our defenses to here. Send the coordinates back to the Tower, send a team to deal with the people found by the Sapphires, and call it a day."

They had found no other secret planets, asteroids, life (except those they were going to rescue), or unwanted surprises. No Grysk or Vagaari, no hidden ships of any other enemy they had so far made. Perhaps, they had missed a few, but what were the odds? If threats were still there, they would be removed once their defenses arrived.

"Mission complete," she announced. They were truly done.

The galaxy was full of wonderful and interesting things. And still, with so much space to fill up, sometimes there was more or less nothing exciting to do. The Agents of Chaos had ventured North of the Scintilla (and the Deep) to mark where they would expand their defenses to, and on the way, they had not stumbled into opposition and had not stumbled into any unwanted surprise.

All in all, it was as mundane of a mission as a mission ever could be.

Still, new bonds were formed, relationships deepend, and people seemed to be having fun with one another. So while perhaps the mission itself wasn't the most exciting one, it seemed most of the people would be returning home from it with a little something gained, and the Agents of Chaos would have their defenses reach a tiny bit further away from their large space construct.

All in all, not a wasted few days.

The story of how Agents of Chaos expanded into this part of the 'verse has finished, but everyone is welcome to resume their personal stories indefinitely. Happy RP'ing!

"I'm sorry, but did you just say fifty? That is like..."

He started to count on his fingers. Once he got to ten he finished his sentence.

"...way more than two!"

He sat in his X-Wing, watching the ship in front of them. How could they have survived that long? He grabbed his drunk and raised it to his lips. Tipping up the glass he realized that it was empty. Dropping it to the floor of the ship we leaned back, relaxing. So far, successful mission. X-Wing has a fresh new paint job, part of the fridge is cleared up thanks to him, and we just made fifty new friends. Could today get any better?

Sorry for the late reply, got caught up with other things. Hopefully I'm not too late in the story!
