- Non-Dimetris and Redundant Circuitry - Utilizes non-dimetris and redundant circuitry in the activation loop that renders the lightsaber highly resistant to the deleterious effects of cortosis.

- Material Limitations - The blades of the lightsabers have no particular specialized enhancements or amplified power settings that would push them beyond the strength of a normal lightsaber, even with the power adjustment system set to the maximum setting. As such, lightsaber-resistant materials will naturally present a challenge of varying degrees to the weapons, depending on the material in question, its thickness, and a host of other factors.
- Narrow Blade - Owing to the synthesized Ossus dueling lens, The lightsabers have a narrow blade, which makes precise reflection of blaster bolts somewhat difficult to execute. However, it is practical to use the lightsabers to bat blaster bolts away in a purely defensive sense, but the weapons are largely ineffective in precisely redirecting bolts back towards their shooter or another specific target.
Uncovered by Esmeralda during an expedition to a previously undiscovered ancient Zakuulan tomb from the Inter-Sith Wars Period, the Zakuul Lightsabers were found in a hidden chamber within the ruins, protected by an array of traps and ensnaring devices. However, upon finding the weapons, Esmeralda was cornered by a force of Ultranauts, forcing her to make a deal with Ebony Ambrosia, a powerful dark side Entity. In exchange for facilitating her escape from the Ultranauts, she gave half of the lightsabers to the Entity, leaving the rest for Esmeralda herself and House Io.
Upon their escape from the ruins, half of the lightsabers were given to the Entity as promised, while Esmeralda was allowed to claim two for herself, while the remaining were given to Lyssa Io and Arianna Belasko.
As lightsabers, the Sentinel Blades are products of their time, so they do not feature many of the advanced utility features that most modern lightsabers do. However, they are resistant to cortosis and have a narrow, precise blade, which makes it easier for the wielder to strike gaps in armor. They are also very light and can be wielded with a high degree of fluidity. Ultimately, they are deadly weapons in their own right, so long as the wielder is skilled enough to handle them.
