RECLAMATION CREW
RYLOTH

7fGgQKR.png

For thousands of years, the people of Ryloth have been subject to the darkest pits of torment in the galaxy. From the discovery of Ryl spice to the arrival of the Hutt Cartel, the Twi'lek people have always found themselves under the thumb of someone else. Now, after weathering the Second Great Hyperspace War and the following skirmishes between the Galactic Alliance and the Mandalorian Enclave, the people of Ryloth have been offered time to breath. A large cultural shift on the planet has placed a heavy emphasis on cultural reclamation. Many of Ryloth's clans have banded together to push this new initiative forward. As a show of good faith to their new friends in The High Republic, Twi'lek leadership has put out the call for aid....

OBJECTIVE I: RED DUST UNDER SHADOWS
A large spice-extraction operation has been identified in the Nightlands. Ryloth is tidally locked, with one half of the planet that never sees the light of day. Because this dark environment is incredibly hostile, it is unclear how long this mine has been active under the nose of the Twi'lek people. Excursions into the Nightlands are highly dangerous, making it near impossible for the people of Ryloth to address the criminal activity alone. The Jedi Order and the Grand Army of the Republic have mobilized personnel to raid the complex and route the criminal presence alongside local militias. Due to the close proximity of the installation to a documented Lylek nesting site, ground forces are advised to act cautiously and quietly.

For the people of Ryloth, a quick and decisive blow to any underworld presence on the planet would be a massive boost to morale. High Republic personnel are to ensure that this long-awaited victory is brought swiftly.

OBJECTIVE II: TUNNELS FROM YESTERYEAR

An important part of reclamation for the people of Ryloth has been an increase in archaeological activities. The habitable areas of the planet are littered with the ruins of cities not unlike the capital of Lessu, massive structures with large subterranean complexes. Many of these sites were leveled and buried by the Hutt Cartel, retaliatory action brought against cities that refused to bend the knee to their criminal empire. Now the scholars and cultural leaders of Ryloth wish to uncover what it is that they have lost. Volunteers gather to join the excavation project, with a great deal of sponsorship from the Rori Museum of Natural History.

The RMNH hopes to assist in the development of a local academic institution at the capital of Lessu so that, after thousands of years under the boot of the Hutts, the people of Ryloth can curate and tell their own history.

Rayne Runner | Trash Mobile Home
This was Ryloth. The native home of her people. Rayne didn't even know how many generations detached from it she was. It could have been thousands, maybe more. Everyone knew why Twi'lek were the second most common sentient species in the galaxy. It wasn't exactly a mark of pride. Billions across the galaxy like her would reasonably never know what their ancestoral home was even like.

So when the call came for those who specialized in recovery went out, she couldn't help but volunteer. Rayne was a scrapper after all. She dug through ancient ruins all the time. It was an excuse to finally go and see where her people came from.

It was strange. Dry, aerid, trapped in perpetual fluctuations between dusk and afternoon. That was just what it meant to dwell on a tidally locked planet. The Twi'lek of this place were shorter than her too, though most people were. It made her wonder what sort of giant had to slip into her genealogy to make her so tall. The children seemed very interested in her, probably because she was both familiar and different in many regards. The adults? They seemed more perplexed than anything. Rayne was sure that some had disdain for Twi'lek born away from Ryloth.

Not that she'd ever ask anyone.

It wasn't long before she got to work. The several thousand year old ruin of a city complex lay to the East of the capital, the first location that they would begin to explore. Rayne observed the structure from a distance. It was clearly made to spiral around a natural formation, almost like the city were a mound of sorts. Of course, there were no doubt hundreds to thousands of tunnels below, where Twi'lek would have sheltered themselves from the heat storms of the summer. Rayne got her walker into position outside of the one entrance that remained standing, releasing the ladder and climbing down. This place was depressing. It clearly could have been just as bustling as the capital city, but it wasn't. Somebody had stamped it out.

Rayne would take a moment to prepare her gear before she entered the structure....

The heat. Phillip hadn't ever experienced such sweltering temperatures as he rubbed his forearm along his forehead. His clothes were stained, once again, though this time with mud and dirt instead of the usual bright and colourful paint he was used to. It was fine by him though. Phillip needed to get more hands on with things instead of standing in the background.

Perhaps it would have been better for him to be on the mission to deal with the criminals on the planet, but that wasn't something Phillip saw himself as ready for. He was working on his combat skills, but he wasn't ready. Instead he'd help out in what way he could. There was no way he wouldn't help with the excavation work, even if he was starting to get a bit beaten up from moving stuff and carefully dusting things off. It might not have been a painting brush, but Phillip always felt at home with any form of brush in his hand.

He slipped his goggles back on, trying to make sure his eyes weren't going to get messed up with an inevitable plume of dust or dirt. Sure, he'd probably be able to see afterwards anyway, but who liked getting dirt in their eyes? Not him. That was for sure.

"To gorram slow." Her voice rasped.

Eyes watching the mining operation behind the visor of the second-hand helmet. Her body visible relaxing on the upper seat of her Speederbike as she fiddled with the blaster in her hand. Passing time as her ship was loaded with the warning from the sensors that had been set up.

The operation had been haphazard to begin with.

Mining right under the noses of the locals and trusting the perpetual night and day cycles to keep them from meddling with things. It would have been easier to make an example of someone to keep them from calling for help altogether, but that didn't seem to be the hand the operation manager wanted to deal with. Not to mention that stupid nest that made her skin crawl with every glance in it's direction.

Another knock against the ones running the show. But she was getting her due finally. The only real reason she had been hanging around was the decent prices on Spice inspired by the growing presence of this High Republic group.

Supposedly integrating folks into their system with welcome, open arms.

Dara didn't believe it for a second.

Everyone had a price or a motive. And the more people gathered round, the higher the price and the deeper that motivation became. Wasn't no ones fault that every being in the galaxy worked the same way. Everything started somewhere with someone wanting to make things better. Was just the way the wheel worked. Innovate things to make your life easier, and in time you have the ability to dictate the lives of millions.

Pushing the thoughts aside, she folded her tongue and pressed it to her lips. A sharp whistle filling the air despite the call for quiet as heads whipped around to look at her.

"Ya'll have got forty standards to get this loaded before I start picking it myself with the crane." A mix of expressions meeting her announcement as she snapped the blaster closed with a resounding hum as the power pack provided the deadly weapon with power. "Don't be holding nothing when I start working or you'll be part of what I pick."

A glint of dark humor in her tone as she spun the blaster before holstering it. The pace of the workers quickening as she grinned behind the visor.

Objective: Investigate Rumoured Illegal Mining Operations

The reports to High Republic Command got passed around to Grand Army of the Republic and the Jedi Order. A young man named Kas Larsen decided to aid and support forces heading off to the Nightlands. He visited Ryloth before with fellow Padawan Learner Valoria Elryne Valoria Elryne another Twi'lek. Back to reality instead of the past. Kas arrived in one of the ships landing in a makeshift outpost.

Stepped out of the shuttle he took coming in to represent the Jedi Order and support the High Republic in boosting the Twi'lek populace in ridding criminal activities here. Making Ryloth a world more cleaner and safer for its natives. In hopes to achieve freedom and peace.

Kas didn't come in his usual Jedi get-up gear still had his Lightsabers hidden within his leather jacket but had his sidearm blaster pistol by his right hip in a holster. Blended in with perhaps rugged and laboured smugglers maybe casual soldiers at a push. Kas went in with a squad of Republic troopers to cautiously and quietly make his way throughout the Nightlands.

Been informed about the Lylek nesting grounds within the vicinity. This wasn't going to be an easy assignment for Kas.

He followed a squad and perhaps accompanied by other Jedi forces that were enroute and nearby.

"Remember about the Lylek and the nesting grounds. Be cautious and quiet." Kas said to the team.

Locating the mining operation that criminals from perhaps the Hutt Cartel or possibly another criminal organisation group may be operating here. Kas hoped with what he can do alongside Republic troopers and fellow Jedi. They'll drive any remnants of criminal activity off Ryloth.

Sound strategy and tactics being undertook while Kas and other forces were advancing forth in the field - in the Nightlands. The success and effort placed into the objective here this will provide great support between the High Republic and Ryloth itself. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast but not dwindle or fumble on the way to these reported mines.

"Time to be a Jedi here Kas. Let's make our efforts and presence here count." Kas said and thought to himself as he continued on.

Bitter Roots, Gentle Hands
The Twilight lands of Ryloth never truly slept, but they never full woke either.

He stood at the edge of the ridge, boots settling into the soft loam of a world caught in limbo. The sun never quite touched this land, its glow forever dimmed by the planet's slow spin. It left a realm soaked in long shadows and cold light. Bioluminescent moss clung to the cliffside walls, and somewhere below, the glimmer of Ryll crystals pulsed faintly through the rock.

His breath fogged in the chill air, datapad in his hand flickering with coordinates. He matched faded Republic surveys to the natural etchings of the land. "Ryll extraction site... JX-3." He muttered to himself.

Ryll was powerful, unstable, and precious. It had earned a reputation as a smuggler's prize and a poison in the wrong hands. However, if refined properly through diligence and patience, it could be of more use than it was commonly known for. It could heal.

That was why he'd come.

The Republic needed alternatives. Medics in the field needed options when it came to serving their units in combat or peacetime. The people of Ryloth deserved more than to see their world gutted for profit fueled by evil intent.

He adjusted the strap of his medical satchel and began the descent towards the mouth of the cavern ahead - the entrance was framed by old Twi'lek carvings, smoothed by time and half-consumed by moss. Dilapidated watchtowers loomed liked ghosts above the cliffs. Silent sentinels from another war or maybe the same war just dressed in new uniforms.

He paused, resting his hand on the stone.

"This land remembers," he whispered to the ancient memories that lingered even still.

Harvest the Ryll. Process what could be done on-site. Keep operations small. Get out clean and without disturbing the local ecosystem.

That was the plan.

But Ryloth had a way of complicating even the simplest of intentions. Especially here - where the light never fully reached and secrets grew in the dark like roots beneath the earth.

Fervos had long travelled the stars in search of a worthy battle, one where he could do good. His search had most recently brought him to Ryloth, a planet that was no stranger to crime and war. Perhaps he could ease the troubles of the people of this world, that would be a worthy cause indeed! As he fought in the eternal shadows of the Nightlands, he came to find out about the Grand Army's involvement. They were a powerful force to be sure, one which often did right by the people they served, a rarity in such uncertain times.

If he were to come across the Grand Army in his travels, he would consider pledging his sword to them. Until then, he would do as much damage to the underworld scum that controlled the Nightlands. They would be need to be snuffed out before he could ever consider leaving Ryloth. To that end, he followed rumors of a mining facility on the planet.

The mines were permanently lit, an attempt to chase away the shadows, a futile one at that. This made them fairly easy to find from a distance. Clad in a well-worn cloak and his traditional garb beneath, the feline warrior strode towards the lights. It would be difficult to maintain stealth with such constant illumination. No doubt patrols would be watching the shadows, keeping the creatures of the night at bay. Fervos decided he would use these shadows to his advantage, climbing up a rock wall to watch the patrols below.

From his perch, the Togorian watched, waiting for his moment to strike. Soon he leapt down with dramatic flair, driving his blade into a guard, before pouncing on another. With claw and sword he would dispatch his enemies. It was a grim duty, but an unavoidable cost of removing filth from Ryloth. Fervos gave a silent prayer, one for both protection and forgiveness. Hopefully his ancestors would be with him this day.

There would be much more this night, many more warriors who would be sent to meet the spirits of their forefathers. With any luck, he would not be among them.

After he finished with the first patrol, he ran towards the checkpoint that lead into the mine proper. It would only get harder to blend in, and soon he would have to alert his enemies to his presence. Without doubt disabling the mine would kick the hive, but it was worth the risk to put a squeeze on these thuggish gangsters!

WHAT DAY IS IT AGAIN?
FIZZLEN IN THE HIGH REPUBLIC vol. 1
Issue #1 w/ Open to Interaction

Fizzlen clutched his head in bewilderment for a brief moment as the events of the previous night flooded back to him. He had been relishing a short afternoon getaway on Ryloth, pretending it was a mission from the Jedi Council to look into some recent criminal activities that might be linked to the Black Sun Syndicate.

Naturally, he had been goofing off during this mission, taking the time to explore some of the cantinas in the capital city, which led to an encounter with some local thugs.

By all measures, he would have triumphed in that fight if it weren't for his decision to avoid using the Force to cleanse his body of the toxins, instead opting to fully embrace his adventurous lifestyle filled with hard liquor.

Now, as he surveyed his surroundings, he found himself knee-deep in trash cans emitting a rather foul odor... oh wait.. He took a whiff of himself and realized that the source of the stench was him.

Well, no one would notice as he reached for the bottle lying beside him, his eyes widening at the truly horrifying sight.

"The booze is all gone, by the force...." Fizzlen exclaimed in disbelief, rummaging for some spare change but finding none.

His paycheck was barely enough to support his drinking habit, but luckily, the force seemed to smile upon him when a report came through on his transmission device about the High Republic investigating some spice shipments.

Spice always sold well...well enough to settle his own debts.

RIS Cadet Sara Celwik lay in the permanent twilight of Ryloth's nightside, the lights of the mine burning against the cold darkness working in her favour. It gave the occupants and guards night blindness, while she sat in the darkness, with the light diffused by distance, so that her eyes were properly adjusted.

For the moment, she was being directed by an off-site but on-planet handler. With her,
Sara had a squad of five experienced GAHR commandos under her direct command for this, trusting that their experience would help smooth over her rough edges in the moment-to-moment issues that may crop up during the operation. Since the operation was cooked up entirely in-house, Sara did not have information on any friendly operations in the area, but had been briefed to expect them.

Sara's objective was simple: enter the mine site, get the commando slicer into whatever computer systems they could find, recover any information that might link the mine to clients, and extract all while remaining undetected. Their secondary objective was to render the mines inoperable for the time being. The official briefing had them laying some time-delayed pheromon defusers to draw the local Lylek population to the mine site while extracting, however, they were told to improvise if that plan was no longer the most effective option.

Moving like shadows, the hexad silently descended towards the mine site, small sensor jammers making them appear to be malfunctioning if anyone tried to use technology to locate them. Not a perfect solution, but good enough to close the gap.

She had finished tracing another line of the checkering pattern with her finger when the back of her hand itched.

An idle feeling that made her pause halfway through removing the offending sensation. Scanning the area around her more intently. If it hadn't been the Nightland's with its fething cold, she might have kept her helmet off to hear better. Things were already difficult enough to see if you didn't have the right gear. Never mind trying to listen to anything on a barren cold rock when it tried to freeze your exposed bits off.

And the itch wasn't exactly going away. Turning into the same sensation of a hand held too close to the fire.

<Hey. How much longer? Or do I need to come motivate every fething body down there?> A call made to the one overseeing her loading procedure through her helmet as she switched the speeder from idle to active.

<Another five standards should have you fully loaded and moving. So long as you quit bothering anyway.> The attitude that came back across the line fixed her idea of giving them a warning.

She just had to make sure she wasn't caught up in whatever was brewing for the place. Her post just above the loading area of the mine now worthless to her. The payout was nearly hers, and whatever happened beyond that was likely a strange sort of fate. Slowly putting the speederbike into a crawl as she moved away before heading down, down, and further down along the switchback path until she was in the crater that had been used to hide her ship. Moving between the bodies on loading duty and parking the speeder beside the cargo crates.

Deploying the kickstand before the engine quieted as she turned her head in that slow scanning search. The heat in her hand growing as she moved to grab her shotgun. Never stopping her searching look as a few wary eyes watched her tap twice on her wrist computer.

"Don't point no nothing at me, and y'a'll get the same." Her only warning that made little sense to the workers as they continued. The ship droid-mod coming to life via text on her wrist computer.

Writing out a few things back and forth as panels along the bottom side of the ship hissed open. Two sets of groundbuzzer cannons swiveling into view as she stepped outside once again. Making the long walk back up towards the surface as the crater she had parked in began to light up. Her ship beginning to warm up as she kept the shotgun handy.

"Fething idjits." They only had to have played nice until she was painting them with her ion drives to get a warning. Her helmet scanning the direction toward the nest with a nervous twitch of her hand against the shotgun.

Now it wasn't just gonna be her engines burning them up. Whatever that might be.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The patrol hadn't seen him coming. The mess he left behind not drawing attention in the dark as patrols moved slowly. Lazily in their patterns from weeks of easy, uninterrupted work.

The guards around the landing area however took note of the woman beginning to move. Leaving visibility after heckling the quartermaster. A few minor messages back and forth between them about her getting a bigger gun making the ones nearby a slight bit more nervous than those inside the facility itself. Now paying far more attention as the feeling of unease began to slowly spread from it's origin to those around it.

Those more attuned to the natural order of things feeling an unseen wire begin to draw tight as they messed with their weapons. Started eying the doors and passages that surrounded them with each comment about the woman outside.

She'd been right about the Lyleks. Who was to say she wouldn't be right about whatever else was happening?

Twitchy fingers were abound now as each body in the facility began to become agitated and move with nervous energy. Moving closer to their groups instead of isolating as the reminder of how dangerous the dark could be came to their minds.

Objective: Investigate Rumoured Illegal Mining Operations

Making progress in reaching the apparent Mining Operation digsite with the squadron that Kas was supporting not taking any leadership roles. He believed it best to allow Military officials to fulfil their roles on the field. Jedi are always available and supportive to guide others not command them with any authority. It just wasn't appealing or suitable.

Keeping quiet not to disturb the Lylek nesting grounds nearby unless others had caused issues. Avoiding detection of any nearby patrols all while there was a patrol group that had been dealt with by Fervos Kej Fervos Kej not clear who done this but Kas' guard went up. The squad he was with continued to find a suitable point to enter the Mining Operation.

In passing the fallen gangsters, mercenaries and thugs left behind. Kas looked to his commlink thinking is it best to make contact. No that'd cause a riot with the squadron close to the Lylek nesting grounds. They were heading inside of the mine and making their way inside.

One of the troopers signalled to Kas that they were catching up with a figure that made their own way inside of the Mines. Couldn't quite make out the individual just yet but they weren't hostile as far as Kas can tell. A possible friendly where Kas made his approach towards Fervos Kej Fervos Kej cautiously however.

The soldiers Kas was with were keeping an eye out if they were able to come into contact with another squad perhaps led and commanded under Sara Celwik Sara Celwik any indications would be good.

Kas quietly made his approach but kept a cautious distance from Fervos Kej Fervos Kej just in case.

"Was that you who dealt with a patrol. I'm Kas Larsen, a Jedi and here with with some troops." Kas kept his voice volume low and quiet. Enough to be heard by Fervos while close enough.
