SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Amphibious landing craft. A well-armoured, mobile transport craft that can traverse both land and water. Thus the Patriot is ideal for amphibious landings, transporting a contingent of soldiers from ship to shore. It is able to project a protectice bubble to prevent the soldiers from being mown down instantly.
  • Fairly fast, which helps keep the people and cargo being transported from being blown up by defenders.
WEAKNESSES
  • It is a troop transport, not an assault craft. All that cargo and passenger space also means it is big and heavy. Armaments are suited for anti-personnel and some light anti-vehicle duties, but there for defence.
  • Vulnerable to air strikes. Its ability to defend itself against them is limited. Big landing operations are not a good idea unless one controls airspace or can provide air cover.
DESCRIPTION

Over the decades, Firemane has found itself operating on worlds where the seas and oceans play a huge role in transport, trade and thus also warfare. Tygara and Arkas are chief among them. Ships are needed to counter the maritime fleets of other factions, combat raiders and expand the Kerrigan family business' power. While the surface navy was neglected after the initial conflict with the Xioquo had been settled, it has now undergone a programme to modernise it. One of the fruits of said project is the Patriot Class Amphibious Landing Craft, a landing craft that can quickly deploy a contingent of soldiers, cargo and, if needed, vehicles to the shore. The Patriot will be operated by Firemane's water fleet.

The boat has been designed for quick insertions. Massive amphibious assaults are rare, as large numbers of troops are more likely to be deployed via orbital landers. However, it is useful to spearhead assaults or land units of commandos when aerial landings are not practical or would create too much attention. The boat has good protection and speed, though its armaments are below average. But its purpose is to quickly deploy its precious cargo, not actually engage in long fire fights.

The Patriot has been conceived as an over the beach craft. This means it is not impeded by soft sandy beaches, marshes, swamplands and loose surfaces, which are a barrier to archaic landing craft. This improves the craft's flexibility. The design of the boat is based on ancient hovercrafts, but uses repulsorlift propulsion to make it able to not just land on the beach but take units well up and deploy them. Aside from a delfector shield, it also features a hydrostatic field similar to the one used by Gungan vessels. This only keeps out liquids, but can be useful if the Patriot has to float over an acid lake or some other dangerous liquid. The boat is able to carry quite a bit of cargo, allowing soldiers to bring extra gear, supplies and so on. It can also transport a limited number of vehicles. To alert crew and transported personnel of dangers, the boat has good sensors and mapping suites.
