ORYN SELVAR
- BACKGROUND
-
Currently: A young Padawan, without a Master, doing his duty to the Order but harbouring doubts he will ever become a Jedi Knight.
Oryn Selvar is a Nautolan born on the ocean world of Glee Anselm. The time spent with his parents was presumably a happy one, though he has no memory of it. His connection to the Force was discovered early, and he was taken in by the Jedi Order. Since then his home has been the Temple, and his family the Jedi.
Training began almost as soon as he could walk. Knowledge of the Force enhanced his natural Nautolan abilities. From an early age, his instructors noticed his strong connection to the emotional currents of the Force, being able to sense the feelings of those around him with unusual clarity.
The young Nautolan showed great potential, and proved disciplined, physically capabpe and highly skilled with a lightsaber for his age. Years of training forged him into an athletic and capable fighter, yet his temperament set him apart from many of his peers. Where others embraced the martial side of Jedi life, Oryn found combat deeply unsettling. The emotions he sensed in others often struck him with overwhelming intensity during conflict.
Oryn has gained a reputation as a thoughtful and unusually empathetic Padawan, one who seeks peace whenever possible. Internally, Oryn begins to fear he has plateaued, and reads his tendency to shy away from combat and become overwhelmed with the negative emotions of others as signs he may not be cut out to be a Jedi, despite it being all he has been raised to become.
- PERSONALITY
-
Oryn Selvar is a deeply empathetic Jedi who feels the suffering of others so strongly that he struggles with the violence required to protect them.
Calm | Empathetic | Observant | Disciplined | Protective | Introspective
Oryn Selvar believes deeply in the Jedi ideals of compassion and balance, and is someone who naturally gravitates toward meditation and understanding rather than confrontation. He wants to believe most conflicts can be resolved without bloodshed, and he struggles with the idea that a Jedi might sometimes need to take a life to protect others. Violence is to Oryn the first step towards failure, and a sign that understanding or patience was lost somewhere along the way. A truly good Jedi should never have to hurt anyone. This belief often burdens him with guilt after battles, even where his actions were necessary in the protection of others.
At times he can become withdrawn, retreating inwards to manage the emotional weight he carries particularly in crowds or during conflict. These situations demands effort on his part to remain centered. While a challenge, Oryn's natural abilities also become his greatest strength. Where other Jedi might see enemies, he often sees frightened individuals caught in circumstances beyond their control.
Being raised in the Temple, Oryn lives and breathes the Jedi Code and its philosophy. He is both patient and disciplined. Whatever turmoil he tries to manage on the inside is often masked by what outwardly appears as the model Jedi.
Oryn can sometimes lose track of what he wants, and has become a bit of a people pleaser. If the people around him are happy, he is happy. He often tries to be funny and light the mood, for his own benefit as much as those around him.

AQUATIC - STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
-
+Empathy - Reads people well, senses emotional shifts, strong in negotiations, situational awareness
STRENGTHS
+Defensive Duelist - Highly trained Soresu practitioner and difficult to overwhelm
+Patience - Oryn rarely acts impulsively. He waits, observes and responds carefully. He trusts in his Jedi discipline and the will of the Force.
+Enviornmental Mastery - As a Nautolan from Glee Anselm, Oryn is extremely comfortable in water. He excels at underwater combat, aquatic infiltration, and navigating submerged enviornments. His eyes are capable of spotting details in lightless oceans.
-Emotional Overload - In chaotic enviornments filled with strong emotions, Oryn can become overwhelmed. Too many emotional signals at once can cloud his focus.
WEAKNESSES
-Reluctant to Cause Harm - His compassion as well as emotional attunement gets in the way of doing what's necessary if that causes pain.
-Hesitant - His patience can bleed into hesitation when decisive action is needed. His desire for the perfect solution makes it hard for him to cut his losses and do what's best in the given situation.
-Environmental Sensitivty - The Nautolans' skin and tendrils are adapted to humid or aquatic enviornments. Long periods in very hot or dry climates causes discomfort and fatigue, and his agility might be reduced. Oryn would require water immersion or hydration breaks to combat this.
-Too Defensive - While hard to break down individually, Oryn is not a naturally aggressive fighter, and will struggle to end fights quickly.
-Self-doubt - Oryn carries the emotions of others on his shoulders. Even when successful, he will second guess what could have been done better. He can feel responsible for things outside his control, which often leads to self-doubt, guilt, and exhaustion. All of these weaknesses combined has left Oryn with a foreboding sense that he is not cut out to be a Jedi.
