Philosophy was one of the things Braze was starting to becoming known for teaching. Today would be a good day for teaching the Form that came before all others: Form Zero.

He had posted on the holonet forum, inviting young Padawans to attend a class focused on the questions that shaped every action before it was taken. When was it right to inflict pain in order to protect others? When, if ever, could killing be justified? Where should a Jedi draw the line, and how much suffering could be accepted in pursuit of a greater good? The lesson would also explore the matter of free will and the troubling question of mind tricks… if Jedi were meant to defend the freedom of others, then when, if ever, was it acceptable to influence another mind through the Force? Alongside these discussions, Braze intended to cover practical non-lethal tools as well, including Force Stasis, restraint, disarming methods, and other ways to end danger without ending a life.

Once everyone who meant to attend had settled into place, Braze inclined his head slightly toward the gathered students.

"Welcome to my philosophy class. For those of you who do not know me, I am Knight Braze Kai'el. Today we will be discussing Form Zero, the judgment that must come before action, and the questions a Jedi must answer before deciding how far they are willing to go."

He looked out across the group before asking, "Now then… if stopping someone would require you to cause them pain, but sparing them would leave others in danger, what does a Jedi owe first: mercy to the one before them, or protection to those beyond them? Take a moment before you answer. I am not asking what sounds noble to you; I am asking what you would choose when the moment is at hand and another life hangs in the balance."

"He said pain.... not kill... " He mused aloud as much as he was loathsome to have to attend a class being held by Braze it would seem that Ko Vuto Ko Vuto was insistent this was a class he himself had to learn. He didn't want to take the presume the logical next jump to straight death.

"How comforting. A philosophy class, and you've already skipped ahead to execution....So I take it your solution is to kill first and spare yourself the trouble of thinking longer?"

Location: Dantooine Temple

Dirk sat there and deciphered what Braze was saying. Not having too hard of a time to make sense of the words and translate them for himself. He watched the violet haired lady raise her hand and give a solid answer. Thinking that was a good lead to follow He also raised his hand and gave a reply.

“Save the fabool” He answered in a gravily voice.. Using a familiar creature in place of something needing saving from an attacker.

Casaana twisted in her seat, stretching one arm across her body before turning the other way and doing the other. Form Zero was basically what she'd been doing for a little over a year now. Well, aside from that bit on the Death Star. But they'd been trying to blow up a planet, and you didn't weigh lives then, you stopped the blurgs. "Well, some Masters say pain can be educational, or something to learn to accept and set aside. But there's usually nothing stopping you from just stunning them. Both the Force and a blaster can do it."

She eyed Braze's feet. Were they looking a little cold? Probably not on Dantooine.

Kael sat in his chair truly contemplating his answer carefully, form zero among other philosophical teachings of the Jedi way were foreign to him. Alas, he was still without a master to teach him those things. After a few minutes and listening to the others in the class answer, he raised his hand.

"I believe a Jedi owes mercy to the one before them."

He didn't really know the right answer, but he gave it his best shot anyway.

Oryn had never been to Dantooine, but when his schedule allowed a visit to another temple and attend a class on philosophy, he was sold. It felt like the Force had presented him with just the thing he needed. In his own opinion, his skills were sharp. More importantly, he knew how to sharpen them.

When it came to what it meant to be a Jedi, and how he shaped up accordingly, he felt ready to shatter.

In class, the young Nautolan clung to every word, desperate for the answers. When the question was turned back to the group and himself, he felt at a loss, and it took him a good moment to gather his thoughts. That he held a position opposite to Eloise wasn't hard for him to work out, but he envied her the convinction of her answer.

Oryn knew pain wasn't something he easily could accept or set aside. Still, he felt closest to what Casaana said, and built on that. "Leaving others to danger is unacceptable. But if the only path to avoid that is through causing pain, you have already failed." he quickly tried to read the room, and see if he was completely off base or onto something. "I mean, a true Jedi would solve the problem before it got to that. You can protect others by causing harm, and do the best of a bad situation, but it is only a different shade of failure, if a more acceptable one."

To sum up, he quickly added "I don't think they should be mutually exclusive. A true Jedi can do both. Mercy and protection, and that's what we should strive towards."

Kriff. They had all spoken with such calm and conviction. Was he sweating?

Diogo hadn't seen Braze in a while. That elicited a small curve of the lips. He looked good. Knighthood suited him.

It took great heroic effort for Diogo not to roll his eyes at Eloise's answer. His jaw clicked and hurt something fierce, but he managed. He hadn't seen her since their last meeting, or fight, or whatever it was. How fitting that they'd be brought back together on Dantooine, the place they first met. The temple here may have been restored, but their relationship was... well, ruined. Complicated, if one were to be charitable. It was, perhaps, beyond repair.

Once, Diogo might have shared her answer, but Tython changed many things.

"I would show mercy," he said. "Stun, disarm, maim. But it also depends on who it is. If Carnifex was the one putting people in danger? I'd cut that kriffer into a million pieces."

Late again! Ella cradled a cluster of datacrons while she fumbled with her bag, which hung loosely from her shoulder. How can I always be late for everything?! She struggled as she ran through the hallways to the classroom. She did her best not to interrupt, and squeezed herself through the doorway before she rushed to take her seat. A few of the datacrons tumbled out of her arms, clattering noisily against her chair and on the floor, but in spite of her red face, she maintained her stoic stony-faced expression. She sat straight, looking like the model student, and with a slight brow raise - the only thing indicating her surprise - Elora noticed the class was being taught by Braze Braze and attended by a group that seemed familiar with him.

Her hands smoothed her robes first, and then deftly began to slip the datacrons one-by one into her bag and into the hidden pockets in her robes. Being late was becoming her thing, in an unfortunate way. However, she had excuses. Her roommate had disappeared after forcing her to engage in a Blitzball game with the other students and she had been planet-hopping from Archive to Archive for special education as an Archivist. From Naboo to Pylantia to Dantooine. All of the traveling had begun to wear on her.

Ella was pretty sure she would be celebrating her 15th birthday abord a ship.

Meanwhile she was glad she'd made it to this class, as this was one of her few combat-related classes she actually showed any interest in. Ironically, because of a conversation she had had with Braze during a chance encounter in the training yard. As quietly as possible, she drew a stack of papers from her satchel, some with Aurebesh lettering, while others contained charcoal sketches. A stack of blank papers, slightly discolored from the charcoal, made up the top stack. She began taking notes immediately.

Braze let the last answer settle into the room, his gaze moving over the gathered students, lingering just long enough to make it clear he had listened intently to each of them… and weighed the answers given.

He did glance up at Elora Praithwyn Elora Praithwyn as she entered the room, though he made no move to admonish her for arriving late. Instead, he offered her a pleasant smile, as though simply pleased she had chosen to attend. He paused just long enough for her to settle before continuing, allowing her the full benefit of his words.

"You have all given answers that sound defensible," he said at last. "That is what makes Form Zero dangerous." He spoke simply, as though drawing back the veil from some truth hidden within the idea. "The wrong choice is often obscured by a mask of virtue."

He stepped forward from the front of the room, and yes, as far as Casaana Casaana saw, since her droid had so unceremoniously stolen his socks, he had not replaced them. His feet were still bare at the toes and heels, having forgone anything resembling proper shoes in favor of trapeze boots that protected the instep and arches, but otherwise left the rest exposed.

"To kill swiftly can be called decisiveness. To spare can be called mercy. To stun can be called restraint. To seek a way where no one suffers can be called wisdom. All of those may be true… and any of them may become excuses."

He turned his attention across the room, looking to each student in turn, addressing each stance as best he could without seeking to resolve the debate outright. He meant instead to press against the edges of their thinking, and to test how far those ideas could bear weight.

"If you kill too quickly, you may call fear clarity. If you hesitate too long, you may call cowardice compassion. If you cling to nonviolence when others will die for it, you have chosen your own conscience over their safety. If you speak as though a true Jedi should always find a perfect answer, then you may be in love with innocence more than reality..."

A small pause followed as he let out a soft sigh, his expression settling into something more serious letting his words sink in.

"Form Zero is the burden of choosing what stain on your hands you are willing to carry… and why. Not every situation will be black and white, and not every answer will come cleanly. You cannot control everything another will do, nor should you be expected to carry blame for actions, or inaction, that are not your own. Mercy without responsibility is sentiment. Protection without restraint is brutality... and a Jedi is asked to walk between them while the ground gives way beneath their feet."

His gaze swept the room once more studying the students expressions.

"Very good, Diogo … the situation changes when we possess special knowledge of our opponent... Though I will caution you against speaking the Butcher King's name as it draws' his attention. " Braze's tone remained even, though the lesson beneath it revealed it's teeth. "For those of you unaware, Darth Carnifex Darth Carnifex is an imposing figure of immense power; A Dark Lord seated high within the present-day Sith power structure, and he is no fool. Death is an inevitability he fears so deeply that he has layered himself in ritualized esoteric protections, and amassed a degree of power and control few could hope to match. He is not so easily dealt with as a fruit vendor on Tatooine. To defeat such an enemy requires tact, judgment, and understanding beyond what most ever need to cultivate."

He paused considering what else to impart on those gathered as this was not an intended subject for today's lessons but a good point that was raised.

"But you are right to note the difference. He is precisely the sort of being who delights in making these types of situations far more difficult to deal with. He sows despair because despair serves him. The Sith understand the unfair edge the dark side may grant them against those who serve the Light, and they waste no time in abusing it. Not merely to kill, but to corrupt the space around the killing. Innocents are butchered not only to remove them, but to leave abject terror behind in those forced to watch. Fear bends people to their knees and grief weakens them, whilst guilt lingers."

His eyes narrowed slightly with the seriousness of the subject.

"So do not be too quick to believe you could have stopped his hand every time, or prevented every death, and do not claim his sins as your own. That is one of the oldest snares such monsters lay before you. They want you off balance, and to be burdened by helplessness. They want your spirit to stagger before your body ever does. And they want you to feel rage at their actions because then they win. YOU will never find a 'fair' fight with them."

His voice lowered then, though it did not soften in tone or edge as he continued to give his final note on this particular subject.

"It is a hard thing to face… and even Masters may struggle beneath the sight of such immense cruelty. What you witness in those moments can shake your footing more severely than any blow..." he trailed as that pale jade green gaze became distant perhaps at the stir of old memories.

"That is why you must learn to see the trap for what it is; fear makes the wolf loom larger than he is. The point has been illustrated well enough, I think, so I will set Dark Lords of the Sith aside for now. That path would carry us too far from the lesson at hand and into deeper theory than I mean to burden you with today. If any of you wish to pursue the matter further, I will remain after class to discuss it."
He said in conclusion on that topic.

"So... let us make the question uglier." He paced from one side of the room to the other, gesturing lightly with his hands as he spoke.

"The person before you in this scenario is armed. They have one hostage in hand and others behind them. You have but one single instant. " He said raising his index finger and holding his hand up to emphasize this part. "A clean stun may fail, and a disarming strike may cripple, and a killing blow may save everyone else.... But.... They are afraid, desperate, and not yet beyond reach… but if you misjudge them, someone innocent may die."

He tilted his head slightly, letting the new scenario take shape in the theater of the mind.

"What do you choose now… and what consequence would you accept for choosing it?"

He gave them all ample time to offer their suggestions or words before he crossed the room, rather than pacing the room at large, he closed the distance one student at a time to offer a few of them more specific questions geared towards their answers.

He came to a stop before Eloise Dinn Eloise Dinn , his attention settling fully upon her.

"And if you kill to protect five, only to learn later the threat might have been stopped another way… what has that choice made of you?"

He turned next toward Valor the Forsaken Valor the Forsaken , drawing nearer until the question no longer belonged to the room, but to him.

"How long do you permit yourself to think before thought becomes delay...? And if you stay your hand because you see fear in them. In that instant, they strike past you at someone smaller, slower, weaker. Is that blood partly yours?"

When he came before Kael Venn Kael Venn , he paused again,

"Do the people behind your enemy not deserve mercy too? When does sparing one become abandoning another?"

He moved again, the turn of his body carrying him toward Dirk Dirk

"If saving the fabool means crippling the one before you, do you do it? There are two innocent Fabools... not one. One is beside you. One is farther away. You can only reach one in time. Who receives your protection first?"

From there he stepped toward Casaana Casaana , the faintest trace of awareness passing through the line of his mouth as though he had not forgotten her droid's earlier theft in the slightest… but the humor did not linger as this was a very serious lesson.

"Usually is not always. What do you do when stunning fails? The target is armored against stun, half concealed behind a hostage, and already injured enough that another shock may stop their heart. What now?"

At last he turned toward Oryn Selvar Oryn Selvar ,

"What do you call the Jedi who arrives too late through no fault of his own? Does calling it failure help the innocent survive it?"
He paused briefly letting the first two questions settle before pressing harder with the next, "Say you arrive after the 'failure'... The fire is already burning.... A blade is already raised.... And there is no earlier intervention left to you; What does your philosophy offer now?"

Only then did Braze let his gaze leave the last student and pass once more over the room as a whole.

"Not what comforts you," he said softly. "Not what flatters the image you hold of yourself as a Jedi. What do you offer now… when the moment has already soured in your hands, and still demands that you choose?"

Some guy sitting behind her was yapping. Eloise ignored him at first, only glancing over her shoulder when it became clear his words were directed at her.

"How comforting. A philosophy class, and you've already skipped ahead to execution... So I take it your solution is to kill first and spare yourself the trouble of thinking longer?"

"Yes," she replied. "You have to act according to the needs of the situation - and if someone is using deadly force, you can't afford to waste time debating what to do."

Next was a caveman grumbled something about gabagool, followed by a chorus of naive youngsters insisting that they could just stun the bad guy, right? Eloise didn't say anything, leaning back in her seat with arms crossed. Anyone dumb enough to think they could stun their way out of a battle with a Sith was in for a rude awakening.

Her relatively calm state was disrupted by the sound of a painfully familiar voice. She knew Dio was there, having sensed his presence in the room, but hearing him speak was harder to ignore. Especially when his words seemed to echo what was said during their last... confrontation. Mercifully, Braze took over before she could say anything that might be construed as directly aimed at her ex. Although for a guy who stressed that they should be careful not to mention Carnifex's name too much, he sure did spend a lot of time talking about the old bastard. Finally, he addressed each of them:

"And if you kill to protect five, only to learn later the threat might have been stopped another way… what has that choice made of you?"

"It would make me a hero," Eloise replied, though her tone didn't indicate any joy or pride in that fact. "I would've done what I believed needed to be done to protect five innocent lives. Their attacker's fear and desperation doesn't trump other people's safety. It just makes them a fool caught up in something they shouldn't have. And a dead fool is better than a killing fool."

Kael was impressed with everyone's answers. He felt like he came up short at his particular answer, but he wiped the sweat off of his brow and took that on stride. He was there to learn, as a Jedi, so that's what he was doing.

Do the people behind your enemy not deserve Mercy too? When does sparing one become abandoning another?
That really stood out and made Kael think. He thought long and hard before muttering out another answer.
"This seems like a trick question. The unfortunate thing about being a galactic peacekeeper is we can't save everyone. Everything has consequences, if you save one, you might not save another. A philosophy I heard once is, if you never attempt to save one life, you'll never save any." Kael looked around the class room before training his eyes on his instructor.

Ella raised her hand meekly, then looked around at her fellow classmates. Her lips parted and she quietly said; "If the Will of the Force is the greatest power in the Universe, won't everything work out if you simply do... nothing? If any action is a resistance to fate, is it not better to simply let what happens happen?" There was more than one Force Cult that believed so. Ella did not entirely, but the question deserved to be asked.

"The answer is; that the Force guides you. It leads you to the skills you gain in life, and prepares you for the moment you will face your destiny. Whether you live or die, save all or none, it is the Will of the Force that knows the outcome. One Jedi may fall to the Dark Side, ignore his Jedi teachings and kill thousands of people. Then, one day, he may be faced by a Jedi who convinces him of his errors, turns him against an even greater evil, and he may die, but his fate is completed. Attempting to understand the Force and why it leads us is futile. We must simply be able to act in the now."

As she spoke, she was thinking of Fay, the Jedi who had lived for hundreds of years without aging. She had forgone the use of a lightsaber, and died from a Sith's lightsaber during the Clone Wars. A Jedi who studied nothing but Peace, and died in the most violent way. Ella propped her head on her arms in thought and looked down at her sketch. The drawing was of the components of a lightsaber.

The absence of blank stares told him he had not ridiculed himself. He took a deep breath to steady himself.

Braze had a way with words that made his ears perk up. Out of all the adjectives used to describe Form Zero, dangerous was not one he had expected. What followed reminded him on something he had read on virtue ethics. Bravery was not a simple equation of being either brave or a coward, as too much bravery bled into recklessness.

If you cling to nonviolence when others will die for it, you have chosen your own conscience over their safety.

That hit home for some reason. Was it really cowardice? There simply must always be another way. Violence was an admission of failure. But at what point did pursuing a nonviolent solution that wasn't presenting itself turn into actively making the problem worse? A flame that once easily could've been quenched, allowed to turn into an inferno no one could control.

The question that stuck with him was how. How do I know what is the right thing to do in every moment? What can I do to practice Form Zero? "How do I keep myself from freezing up?" … People were looking. Kark. Feth. Sithspit. He hadn't meant to say that part out loud.

Now he might as well go on, so as to seem like less of a lunatic. "I mean, how do you know what to do? In the heat of the moment" when the answers aren't obvious.

He can't be held accountable for the actions of another, Braze said. But he, as a Jedi, ought to be able to cut through to the right of it with ease. The Jedi were meant to be as close to a perfect being as one could strive to be. And he felt so far away from it.

'Do not claim his sins as your own' - but how can I free my mind of them?

The conversation moved on, and the topic got, as Braze put it, uglier.

Oryn didn't know what was the right answer, but he immediately felt what he would do. Reading people was his strength. If he failed at that, well… He could truly say he had given it his best effort. "Alleviate their fear. Show a path away from desperation." he replied, even as he had a feeling the 'correct' answer probably would be a quick and decisive strike. Yet he knew he couldn't make that choice, certainly not in the split second this scenario gave him to decide on his course of action. He would read their heart and find a way to bring them peace. And if the innocent died? Perhaps he ought to as well.

As to the second part of that question, what was the consequence he would accept? The only answer he could think of was 'I am not a Jedi. I don't have what it takes'. It took him a moment to shake that off, silence stretched as he searched for other alternatives. In the end, he offered "I… I don't know. I will accept the judgement of my peers, and the Council." stripped of rank, cast out of the Order, relocated to the AgriCorps…

Again the topic moved on, and another question was posed to him. What do you call the Jedi who arrives too late through no fault of his own? Oryn struggled to understand the question. How could it not be any fault of his own? The Jedi who arrives too late fails. Maybe he is late because he did not discover where to be, his fault. Maybe he is too late because the Jedi were put on the case too late, in which case, perhaps the Jedi had not instilled the confidence in the public so that they reached out in time, or the proper communication centers had not been made. Every way he tried to look at it, it came back to failure of the Jedi, whether singular or plural.

"Failure can lead to death in the moment. But it needs to save lives in the future."
without him, of course. Stripped of title, sent to the AgriCorps… "What went wrong must be studied and rectified. To say there was nothing we could have done, that it's not our fault… It's not good enough. It's to be blind. It's always our fault."

"Say you arrive after the 'failure'... The fire is already burning.... A blade is already raised.... And there is no earlier intervention left to you; What does your philosophy offer now?"
"Shame. That I was not better. And opportunity to learn, do better." Or resign. Leave the task to someone more worthy.

Braze looked to Eloise Dinn Eloise Dinn curiously.

“Sometimes you must act and take a life to protect others, and acting according to the needs of the moment may be right… But in the space of a heartbeat, to choose decisively and choose well is not so easily done,” he said simply.

He might have wanted to say more to her, but he withheld it. The lesson was broader and the next turn of it would soon be brought to the whole room. His gaze moved instead across those who perhaps may have seemed, in one way or another, uneasy with Eloise Dinn Eloise Dinn ’s choice.

“Does everyone here believe Miss Dinn’s actions would make her a hero in your eyes?” he asked.

The question was left to be answered for a few long moments before his attention turned to Kael Venn Kael Venn .

“Very good, Padawan; you are correct. We cannot save everyone. That is a simple fact… but no, this is not a trick question. I am not asking so that one of you may stumble into the right answer and be rewarded for it. I am asking because the idea and form of your morals often seems clean from a distance… until they are tested by circumstance.”

His hands were gesturing gently as he walked about and spoke.

“When faced with impossible odds, sometimes you must accept that not everyone can be carried through the fire. Sometimes you must remember that your own life is precious too. Too often, Jedi are so enamored with the idea of being noble, of being the one who saves the day, that they throw themselves into ruin without considering what their loss will cost afterward.”

His gaze lowered for a brief moment, not looking at any one in particular as he said this.

“Every action carries consequence, for good or bad. This is not to dishonor those who have fallen protecting others… but sacrifice should be made with open eyes, and a clear mind. You must weigh the outcome before you commit yourself. If you rush forward to grasp the fire knowing you will be consumed, what of those who relied on you to return? What becomes of the people in your care once you are gone?”

Then he looked to Elora Praithwyn Elora Praithwyn

“And who is to say the Force is the greatest power in all the universe?” Braze asked, in a coy edged question.

Much to the dismay of beings like Darth Carnifex Darth Carnifex , Braze understood well enough that there were powers greater than the Force itself, or perhaps more accurately, forces no less captivating...

“Doing nothing is also a choice… and it too bears consequences all its own. The Force does not move the hand of Fate, nor does Fate command those born with free will. Even seers who glimpse what may come understand this much: no future is fixed. Prophecy is not a chain. The future is malleable; it yields, shifts, and curves beneath pressure.”

He lifted one hand slightly, as though tracing unseen paths through the air, before a glimmering display of sparkling blue lights appeared visually branching off in various small directions across the air abouve the room.

“Think of it as a river. One current parts around stone, another carves a new course, and yet another vanishes beneath the earth only to surface elsewhere. You do not truly know what will come to pass until the moment arrives.... daming one path often leads to new paths of which water will flow. Acting within an instant is a necessary skill… but so is learning to see beyond the instant before you. Panic narrows the mind and blinds us to the choices available, whilst wisdom and experience widens our lens."

His attention settled then upon Oryn Selvar Oryn Selvar .

“And freezing is a natural response of the nervous system… one far too often ignored when people speak of fight or flight,” he mused. “Not everyone rises to action nor clarity in the moment they are tested. Some stand still and falter, whilst some only understand what they should have done once the danger has already passed.

Hindsight grants a cruel kind of perfection. It lets us arrange the ruins of what has come to pass neatly and call it understanding. But even then… there are moments where nothing cleaner could have been done. No better hand could have been played. You must learn to tell the difference between failure born of fear, and grief born from the simple truth that the world does not always leave room for better choices.... be cautious that you do not fall in to the trap of higndsight... It's alluring in a way to try to comfort yourself in trying to relive a past mistake only to find no solution. You will trap your self in a vicious self deprecating loop if you linger too long on should haves and could haves. ”

His eyes moved over the class once more,

“Now then… let us make the presented problem a step harder...”

A small pause followed allowing them to catch up with the idea that there were in fact far worse predicaments to come to.

“The armed assailant before you is not a hardened killer grown into their violence.... They aren't a warlord, nor a monster in the shape of a man.” His gaze passed from student to student. “It is but a child.”

That settled over the room...

“A young one with a blade in hand. Frightened, cornered, perhaps used by another… perhaps fully intent on killing despite their age. Perhaps there is still time to stop them without ending their life. Perhaps there is not. Does your answer change?”

He tilted his head slightly drawing his attention back to Eloise Dinn Eloise Dinn

“If Miss Dinn strikes then, is she still a hero? If she hesitates and another dies for it, is she merciful? If you are the one standing there, what do you choose… and more importantly, what truth are you using to justify it to yourself? Tell me, then… does the innocence of youth change the morality of the act, or only make it harder for you to look at plainly?”

The... Force... not being the most powerful thing in the Galaxy was an alien concept. What did he mean? She wondered, but her hand dropped dejectedly. She'd already failed her first test, and a flicker of fear flashed in her eyes, which flickered back and forth from one student to the other in cautions anxiety. Her face didn't show it but she was buzzing with it.

She stuffed her hands in her robes though, and went completely quiet. Maybe I can sneak away before anyone notices? She clearly had a lot of research to do, if her information was this limited. Of course she could have spent Yoda's entire lifetime in the Archives and not learn everything. Ella lamented that weakness silently.

Kael's gaze never faltered, never switched off of the very wise master speaking before him. He sat there contemplating all of the possible scenarios that could occur. He was always the type of person, let alone Jedi, to always snap to action. He was the sheer epitomy and definition of fight or flight, but more fight than flight. More like, fly into the fight. However, he understood that it isn't always about action, and every action a Jedi commences has consequences. Always.

"Master. As painful as the sheer concept of it is, as people let alone Jedi of the order, who brings balance to the galaxy, we aren't going to be able to save every soul, as hard as we may try. Someone will always lose, but if we don't try, then what really are we? What do we stand for? I will always try. However, I see your point of view on the matter regarding our own wellbeing. No point in trying to save someone if we are just going to perish ourselves. So better safe than sorry, even if it means someone can't be saved. We must always take precautions to stay safe as well. However, on another note, I believe that everyone in the galaxy can be saved. Not just physically, but emotionally as well. And I will try to save them as well, even if it is a risk, it's well worth the risk to save that child from the dark side. The light side always prevails Master, in one form or another." Kael took a long breath and relaxed after answering. He hoped he was beginning to understand the lesson.
Braze Braze

Location: Dantooine Temple

Dirk thought some over Braze’s follow up question. Now there were two fabools in the equation which made it far more complex to him. Internally reasoning out the options to the best that his primitive mind could handle. These moral and ethical questions were not something the Dantari teen was used to. His whole life was a dog eat dog world until very, very recently. He offered kindness to other creatures when he could do so which wasn’t too often.

Hearing some of the others along with more of the instructors words made it a bit harder to focus on the specific question he was asked.

“Mmmmm… No.” Dirk eventually responded. “I would not leave Fabool for another.” Dirk didn’t think it was acceptable to forsake one being under his direct protection for another. Something about it just didn’t feel right to him. It could also be risky and put everyone in more danger if he did so.

There was also the other question asked about what to do about a child assailant. Dirk shook his head. “Child too small, no threat.” Dirk himself was still a child by many standards. But he was by his own standards was on the cusp of young adulthood. So to him a child had to be quite little.

"Mnn… there are a great many scenarios that could unfold, and just as many things that could go wrong, so allow me to introduce you all to a helpful technique using the Force; one that may aid you in those tense, confusing situations that sometimes arise. Kael Venn Kael Venn and Casaana Casaana , would you two please join me at the front? I would like some assistance in demonstrating what I am about to explain… Every one else please find a partner to pair up with.

Now, everyone here is aware that it is more difficult to affect other Force users with techniques that rely on the Force, yes? The reasons why a Force push is harder to achieve when your opponent is aware of your presence? The Force flows around each user in its own current, and when another is alert, that current tends to resist sudden intrusion.... Instinct rises and so to does their guard rise. Their awareness meets your will, and simple applications become far less simple.

However,
Stasis is a skill that can be of great assistance in such moments. Rather than relying only on forceful impact, it may be used to hinder movement or... to interrupt action, even maybe to steal a crucial instant from the chaos before you. And sometimes… sometimes an instant is all that stands between disciplined control and a catastrophic demise...

Had I been better trained myself, I might have known that in one such tense moment when faced with a difficult choice, my brother-in-arms, Ko Vuto Ko Vuto , might still have his sword arm... So do not dismiss this as some minor technique. In a difficult encounter, this kind of skill can make or break the outcome; it can buy you precious time, create an opening, or keep a terrible moment from becoming irreversible."

At her name being called, Casaana lifted her head from where she'd been resting it on her folded arms to stare at Braze standing in front of the class through hare half-lidded eyes as her brain caught up. Reluctantly, she stood, loose robes swirling around her legs as she hesitantly made her way to the front. She hated having all eyes on her and just knew that Braze would be getting a kick out of it. So instead of hiding it or shielding her emotions, she let her discomfort radiate out through the Force so those near the front of the class would be able to feel it.

Standing ready, she resigned herself to being used as a training dummy.
