"Force damn it, they're little more than... mildly prophetic paperweights."
- Adrian Vandiir, Pillar of Advancement
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Darth Prospero
  • Affiliation: Certain Invasion participants; listed below, one for each, can be re-gifted.
  • Model: Oracle Shards, aka Korribanian Proto-Oracles.
  • Modularity: No.
  • Production: Limited
  • Material: Synthetic Crystal, Force Essence.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Oracle Shards are based upon the earlier Prosperian Soulstones but designed to house only a single soul, now and forever. They cannot be reused and are only ever capable of holding a prophetic spirit conjured from the Netherworld; if said spirit was banished, somehow, the Shard in question would be nothing but a fancy paperweight, the same applies more temporarily in areas where Force-use is impeded.
  • In addition to prophecies, Oracle Shards are telepathic (used almost solely to communicate with their owner; may involve actual prophecy or just idle chatter, can be difficult to tell apart with some more quirky Oracles) and are able to mildly electrocute those that touch it, though not to the point of actually doing any damage unless they have an extraordinarily weak heart. They cannot move but seem able to perceive their surroundings to a distance of around ten metres, assuming no major obstacles.
STRENGTHS
  • Mildly Prophetic Paperweights: Oracle Shards all have the gift of prophecy... but rather than predict events of galaxy-changing importance, they seem to primarily occupy themselves with more personal matters. This can include advice on how to avoid one's death or find the love of one's life but is far more likely to involve them waxing poetic about how you are doomed to suffer a speeding ticket in two weeks.
WEAKNESSES
  • Uncooperative Nature: Oracle Shards are as uncooperative as they are idiosyncratic, refusing to share their insights unless their particular desires are met; known examples include watching sentient beings die, reading romance novels, and being polished with sand taken from Korriban itself. (NB! Individual quirks/preferences decided by the recipient. May be dangerous, annoying, or harmless.)
  • Fancy Paperweights: Oracle Shards are even more useless than usual in the presence of Force-dampening artefacts/creatures.
  • Singular Purpose: Oracle Shards are decent at prophecy, but that's about it; they can mildly shock those that touch them, however.
DESCRIPTION
Among the last projects worked on by the late
Adrian Vandiir, the Oracle Shards were ironically enough a resounding failure - intended to replace the insights of the Voss Mystics following their world's conquest/liberation (depending on your local propaganda provider) by the Silver Jedi, the prophetic spirits bound to these strange relics proved fickle, emotionally unstable, and completely uninterested in matters of strategic importance.

Frustrated by repeated failures to transform them into something more useful, Vandiir abandoned the artefacts in a Korribanian storage facility; when the Galactic Alliance
launched its assault on that most sacred of worlds, they were among the varied items evacuated...

... but upon realising their lack of strategic or cultural significance, the Sith scholar whose desk they had literally and metaphorically landed on opted to dole them out to individuals who had contributed in some way to the defence of Sith territory - ridding herself of a headache in the process.

To no one's surprise, the process was a largely arbitrary affair, with one ending up in a long-abandoned safehouse and another an SJC hospital.
