DESCRIPTION
The Octarius-class Destroyer was developed as a direct demand for a capable screen and escort ship for the ordinary line of battle, bringing a certain combination of durability, firepower and speed to the battlefield that goes well with the duties assigned to it. Following a more fleet-in-being doctrine where the battle-lines are doing the heavy-lifting of the navy, the escorts are the vanguard and eyes of a fleet, engaging the enemy or chasing them down.
The Octarius-class Destroyer is equipped with a decent weaponry to do this task, sporting a quite strong turbolaser suit for direct engagements but its main purpose is to harass enemy ships with its large missile array and to either draw enemies into battle or chase them down after the battle. Much value is put on equipping the Destroyers with a good all-around suit of armor and weapons while maintaining speed. Though this space is generally sacrificed in terms of comfort and the possibility of sophisticated hangars.
