PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Multi-Layered Protection
  • Angled Design
  • Explosive Outer Layer
  • Electrically Charged Disruption
STRENGTHS
  • We're Safe in here, Right? -
    • With six layers of defenses, the 'Svalinn' is more than capable of protecting most standard starships from anything but the most stalwart assault - with the outermost layer capable of protecting from ion strikes, reactive skin plates capable of absorbing physical projectiles before they reach them, and even a uranium plate to ensure that armor piercing ammunition would still find a hard time breaking through - all for the sake of protection.
  • High Voltage! -
    • More focused explosive devices, those that utilize HEAT ammunition or melted metal injection overall, would notably find a serious issue in the highly voltaged inner layers - as the moment the two are connected, the injected metal shot is disrupted by the plasma. This disrupts the advanced geometry of such a strike, ensuring that it is incapable of breaking through the layers.
WEAKNESSES
  • ... Right? -
    • Due to the highly modular design, the ship hull varies heavily in its ability to protect; and while it can be put on the majority of ships, its protection level varies substantially. This means that for many - this is simply a way to ensure that there is a standardized armor design for Jaeger vessels; regardless of its effectiveness.
  • High Voltage! -
    • The internal voltage compensation for metal injecting and plasma orientated shots does come at the cost of severe power draw - which is not something most standard reactors can help with in addition to the various other weapons and the like they require. This means that unless someone is utilizing Jaeger designs and understanding - there isn't a great chance for the armor to work as intended.
DESCRIPTION

-- Overview --
The AB-163 "Svalinn" Class Starship Hull is an advanced hull designed and produced by Jaeger Industries for Jaeger Industries vessels - as they've home brewed various unofficial armor designs in the past, and even outsourced others to the likes of Mon Cal; but now, has moved to the point of internalizing designs to ensure profitability and consistency.
-- Design --
Originally reverse engineered from an often used Mon Cal design, the 'Svalinn' was referenced from various ground force armor plating utilized by some of the most militant factions in the galaxy. Sith, Mandalorian, and even Hutt vehicles and starships through the eras were dredged from the archaic death they had been given - for a quick glance at just how they did their protection. While the majority of references proved useless - a few notable ones allowed a strong reference for a foundation.
The majority of the design is based around six layers - laid over top of one another with an expertly machined precision; with a thickness varying heavily on what the requirements of the vessel are. For large industrial ships, a focus on the Quadanium takes place, while for more military forced, an equalization of Uranium and Quadanium is offered; though for the highest end vessels, the Quadanium can be replaced with more high end alternatives such as Impervium, though this certainly requires a far high production cost, and thus a far lesser run than what this system is designed for.
-- Supporting Systems --
While the layers themselves offer a gracious design capable of taking severe punishment, the other aspects of the design focus more on scientific defenses. From the outer reactive skin plates, to the more heavily designed electrically lined inner plates; the 'Svalinn' is capable of stopping a variety of shots that many other armors may not react to properly, or at all if they are more mundane. For this reason, one could imagine the 'Svalinn' as a 'Smart' Armor.
First and foremost, the skin plates on the exterior of the armor server two purposes; the first being the reinforced duraplast helping to absorb ion energies with a startling efficiency, while the second feature i the reactive plating. Launching the skin plates is meant to occur when missiles or other bulk masses are detected within close range of the hull by a variety of sensors; and when it is determined to be a threat, the skin plates explode with minor charges to meet the target before it reaches the more delicate hull. This initial explosive is enough to set off most missiles, and help to alleviate the velocity and energies of mass accelerated shot.
Second, is the high voltage system built into the inner layers. With the outer set to an exceptionally high voltage, and the inner a ground - should the layer be penetrated there comes a point where the voltage will transfer over, and create an arc through the round or metal that hits. This massive voltage will melt larger penetrators, and otherwise disrupt metal injecting piercing rounds - such as HEAT. This does come at the cost of energy, which Jaeger Reactors are built to take, but does mean that it is exceptionally expensive to field compared to other more mundane armors.
Last, the depleted uranium inner plate allows a surface that those rounds that made it through the other layers would face with an excruciating struggle. Denser than most known metals, and dangerously hard - the Uranium serves to stop all but the most focused rounds, depending on the thickness and focus of the shot itself. The radioactive nature, however, forces a secondary more heavy duty radiation layer to be put in the inner most layer for the sake of protecting the crew - and otherwise sensitive equipment. This isn't a huge concern, but can be should the uranium get energized by external sources - such as stars, military weaponry, or nuclear devices.
-- Summary --
Overall, while a strong foundation for an armor - it is an exceptionally expensive armor to field in most designs, and specialized for Jaeger branded projects and designs. When all is said and done, the armor is certainly a good start to protecting ones vessel - but is only as effective as the requirements of the ship in question; meaning it can be just as bad as it needs to, or as good as someone requires.
