Saram's Equipment

"Silent Hunter," Braze murmured into his earring, voice steadier than he felt. "Containment field's up on the Duck's corridor; it'll slow the depressurization bleed....

You reminded me of what I should be doing back on Sleheyron…

Right now, that means keeping the boy safe is my priority...

That's what we do right? Protect the young first. I've made choices; But there's a kid aboard that ship who's only fourteen, and he's still trying to make a difference. He's just a kid trying to make his mark.

You wouldn't leave one of your own vod's children to the wolves. Don't leave him to this.... Not for me.
Make sure he gets out. Even if I don't.... If you see my blade light, don't come to me."

"Har'chaak," Saram spat to herself in the privacy of her own buy'ce. Braze was making a very good point. He was right, she wouldn't leave one of her vode's childrwn to get hurt, and she couldn't leave Leos Leos to get hurt either. She hit the airlock controls with the underside of her fist, holding her rifle by it's forend with her other hand. The airlock doors parted to reveal the floor of the station, Saram thew a 'Shushai Rugam' Sensor Sphere in through the open airlock. The little sphere bounced twice before coming to a rest. The linked sensor feed indicated no hostiles. "Alright, ad'ika, I'll do it, but you owe it to him to get out of this alive, understand," she responded at last.

Saram dropped down into the station, her boots cushioning the short fall to the point where she didn't feel any force of the impact when she landed. Ir was then that Saram's sensor feeds updated again, this time no longer blocked by both her own ship's hull and the station's. She could see two force users boarding what appeared to be signature-wise a light freighter, a freighter that had Leos Leos ' ship's IFF signature, and it just so happened that one of those force users matched Leos Leos ' signature and the other Kyric Kyric 's. By all indications, that ship was preparing to take off. "Har'chaak, Braze Braze ," she swore to herself as she raised him, "Azure Phoenix, this is Silent Hunter, the boy is safe, Kyric Kyric is with him," she said with a knowing tone. Saram didn't have a personal callsign per se, more of a squad identifier, they stopped being useful once the company adopted self-modulating encrypted frequency hopping comms, so she stuck to using her ship's transponder code identifier.

The battlenet modules in her beskar'gam and her armor were synced, alerting her to the fact that the light freighter with Leos Leos and Kyric Kyric had taken off, and that a shuttle was inbound. The same shuttle the Jetii who were after Braze Braze were using. Shab. That complicated things. They were running out of time. "Shabla Jetii," she muttered to herself, pulling, arming and tossing two PD/AM-01 Pursuit Denial/Anti-personnel Mines one at a time in the direction of the hangar. That was unlikely to stop them permanently, but in the very least it could buy her some time. Had she known she was going to have to try to keep Jetii out of a ruug'la dilapidated station, she would have brought more mines, only she didn't. Saram activated her armor's active camouflage systems, melding into the station behind her for all intents and purposes. Unfortunately that did mean she had no shields. No matter, hopefully Braze Braze would see reason and they could use the time that the mines had bought to get the haran out of here.

She raised Braze Braze again, "Okay ad'ika, you're going to do no good to yourself or that boy turning yourself in. The Jetii are coming. Let's get the haran out of here and we can talk, then we can figure out what to do next." Somehow she got the feeling things just weren't going to be that easy, somehow she got the feeling that Braze wasn't going to agree. After all, he was the one that had left the transponder at Ossus. While she'd have happily fought some Jetii if it meant he got away, she got the distinct impression he was going to make his stand in that security tower.

"If you want me here I am... You have my word. On Ilum's ice and every name I shamed to get this far; I won't run."

"Come to me,"
Braze said into the comms, voice calm as temple stone. "I'm done running."

That was when she got the confirmation that this was indeed the case. "Braze, what the shab are you doing? Let's figure this out! What you're doing achieves nothing! What about Leos?" she asked, panic and concern overflowing into her normally calm, even tone. To haran with comm sec, she needed to try and get through to him. she needed to talk him out of this dini'la osik.

Okuma had suspected that this may have been the Jedi Master, Jasper. Now he knew it based on the man’s words. He’d noticed to that some of his shots had landed, either the Jedi was doing a good job at pushing past the pain, or was at least pretending to. Meanwhile his grip on the blaster pistol began to sting some. Going from cold and unused to suddenly spitting out so much firepower so quickly had likely busted the now overheating weapon so the Kage tossed it aside.

He heard the door shut behind him, but didn’t look back to confirm it with his eye. Only gave his head a slight tilt. “I’m starting to think that your apprentice may be more valuable than you or I know.” Okuma said as he took a few steps back before he nearly pressed himself against the door that locked him in the cockpit. Gauging just how much space he had here before locking a single yellow eye on Jasper.

The Kage readied him in a defensive stance. Not even drawing another weapon. Given the reputation of the man before him Okuma felt confident in his ability to lay out the Jedi master here and now.

Okuma quickly pulled up his leg before a loud jet of flame came to life at his foot and shot his durasteel toed boot straight towards the jedi’s noggin. Using his jet-boot to give him a surprise burst of speed and power in his opening roundhouse kick.

Jasper let out an exhale. As Okuma took a step back than reared forward with a jet-powered roundhouse kick, the Jedi Master stowed his lightsaber with calculated ease. His breath came out as a frosty mist, and runes were spoken by the Jedi's tongue which had been taught to him by Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble long ago now. A globe of ice formed around his head like a protective fish bowl, which would take some of the incoming kinetic energy. The rest was taken by his head, made resilient by Soft to Solid.

When the kick made contact, shards of ice exploded out from the epicenter. As the ice fell away, Jasper's face came into view. His head had a purple-like aura emanating from where he focused the Matukai technique, but blood was still very clearly trickling down his forehead.

That didn't matter. He had Okuma where he wanted him. His hands immediately moved to grasp hold of the Kage's leg, wringing his ankle with brutal force.

"I know what he's worth," Jasper stated. "More than me."

The Jedi Master reared up his strength and attempted to swing the man over his shoulder by his leg to slam him into the ground.

"There is another vessel leaving the station," the pilot droid said, its clawed hands moving over the controls. "Shall we pursue?"

"Are there indications of Braze being onboard?" Jand asked as he watched the ship in question start to depart.

"Negative, scanners indicate his bio-data is present on the station," the droid replied simply. "I shall continue to the hangar."

Behind, Kellan mentioned the situation and his concerns. Jand agreed.

"Yes, I feel this is getting out of hand," he said in a low tone, as he stood and joined the others to exit the vessel. "If the option is available, we avoid harm to those caught up in this. Braze has likely deceived them with half-truths, at the least."

The shuttle landed, the ramp descended, and Jand turned to join his fellow Jedi. The ship indicated the station engaged a decompression safety protocol, which likely had stemmed from Jasper's leap through the void of space and the consequent impact on the hull glass; That had been something to see on approach, but now wasn't the time to focus on it, as other dangers likely waited ahead.

Then came Braze's announcement over the comm frequency. Kellan responded. It echoed much of what Jand would have said, more or less.

<<"Braze's communication came from the station top.">>

Jand nodded to the others as the droid spoke through their comms, also. They now had an approximate location.

"Let us move, quickly but cautiously."

And the Jedi started to move deeper into the hangar. Ahead, Jand felt a ripple in the Force, something wasn't right - he couldn't quite put his finger on it, but there was something (or someone) that was beyond sight. It wasn't like a Jedi Shadow, it certainly wasn't like a Sith, but something... somewhere nearby...

"Mines."

The increased awareness had given Jand a moment to look, where his experiences in wars against Sith and Imperial had been honed to a keen edge, and he was able to spot the explosive device planted ahead, pronged on six plates. He wasn't familiar with the design, but he could only assume it had tampering failsafes, since it was deployed against Jedi - and moving it away with the Force would be too easy.

Jand took out one of his Tehk'la blades.

The size and make do not indicate thermal detonator-like properties; it likely has a payload with a sharp fall-off of explosive power, potentially aimed at stopping infantry or holding specific points - like a hangar entry. If I had made it, I would estimate a range of around ten to fifteen meters.

Jand felt they were out of the range, his natural Nagai aptitude for technology having been a boon in the wars thus far. He threw his dagger, pinpoint accurate, with a small enhancement from the Force for speed, and watched as the projectile knocked into - and bumped - the mine.

The explosive blew, as the stabilizers activated, sending out a wash of heat and debris from the hangar entry.

"That changes the plan," Jand said with the ringing in his ears, as he looked to the others. "We cannot afford to chance ambushes or hidden explosives by going through the main station structure. We ascend outside, within the shielded atmosphere, using grappling spikes."

Jand turned and pulled his launcher from his belt. He ran and jumped with the Force before he fired and struck home. He zipped upward, catching the edge of the hangar bay, before he crawled up and disengaged the hook. It reeled in. He fired again, higher up the station, and began to ascend higher and higher toward the - now revealed and bright - light source presented by Braze.

It took several minutes, but Jand reached the top of the station and landed firmly, staring at the pale-haired criminal.

"Braze," Jand said as he put the grapple into his pouch and pulled his lightsaber free. "By order of the Jedi, I am detaining you for crimes against both the Jedi, the Galactic Alliance and Coruscant and its people... I ask you to surrender, willingly, to avoid risk to anyone else. You know what you have done, and you know that consequences were to follow."

Jand waited, poised.

"There will be no further warnings."

Kellan felt a tinge of annoyance rattle through the back of his head upon the deadly presence of mines on board a space station were spotted by his fellow Jedi at the front of their team. He clicked his teeth whilst stepping back slowly, giving the Nagai enough breathing room to let his brain filter through their next course of action. Meanwhile he kept himself busy with keeping an eye on their six, watching and perceiving the feintest of abnormalities through the force in order to minimize the potential of an ambush coming when they least expected them to happen.

A rattling boom shook the corridor not too long after, the sound being dampened by the pair of commbeads canceling out the worst of the explosion from the more sensitive parts of his ears.

"That changes the plan," Jand said with the ringing in his ears, as he looked to the others. "We cannot afford to chance ambushes or hidden explosives by going through the main station structure. We ascend outside, within the shielded atmosphere, using grappling spikes."

Kellan would nod in response to this, choosing to avoid the choice set of words he'd nearly fired out for a muted gesture instead. It was one thing to show restraint when dealing with a noncombatant, but he was bordering on Braze's surrendering being nothing more than a ploy after they'd nearly stumbled into a well-placed mine of the anti-personnel variety.

He reached for his belt once an alternate path had been sourced out, whipping the device in his hand to the right of the Nagai's intended path upwards and letting off his zipline's hook in unison. The rest of their small team followed after, but Kellan was already approaching at Jand's side with his lightsaber gripped ready in one hand, the cerulean blade igniting with life as it was held loosely at his side.

There was no need for him to interject past what Jand had already laid down already. His beef with the kid wasn't personal, and so he kept his mouth shut, his gaze vigilant to their surroundings, and his thoughts open and aware to the force.

Braze offered Saram Kote Saram Kote a weak smile.
"Saram… you did more for me than I deserved. You made me think I could be better. But I can't keep running from what I did… not after Coruscant. I'm not trying to die a martyr, and I don't want their pity. I just want to put an end to the cycle.

But... If I stand and draw them here, Kyric, the boy, even you… you all get the chance to walk away. That's what I owe you for trusting me when I didn't deserve it.

I betrayed the Order, and I betrayed a brother in arms. I know what that means. They'll feel gutted, dishonored... their reputation demands they hunt me down. If they don't, my actions stain them too. That's why I can't run anymore. Jedi don't draw their blades first. They'll give me a chance to face this.... and Leos Leos will get a chance not to get wrapped up in this... if I keep running they'll keep chasing and we'll get no peace nor rest. What would you do... if one of your own betrayed you? Besides... My Buir'ika is here... I'll be safe. "

He asked before trailing off, looking to her with somber eyes.

By the time Jand Talo Jand Talo and Kellan Jericho Kellan Jericho scaled their way up Braze slowly disengaged his sabers.. one after the other moving cautiously.

"If you want me, I'm here. Just leave the others out of it."

He didn't really mind what was likely to happen to Okuma Milogen Okuma Milogen but his supicions told him that Okuma was one of thier own in a way too... or at least he used to be. He didn't want to leave Leos Leos , Kyric Kyric nor Saram Kote Saram Kote . But he knew this was the better choice in the long run to end this now.

Ice was surprising to the Kage. Not what he expected from the Jedi’s bag of tricks. The tiny glittering shards of ice from the impact was rather eye-catching for Okuma. At least for the instance that they made contact. Tanking his hits wasn’t quite what the mercenary was expecting as far as defense from the Jedi. Most Jedi didn’t wear armor so tended to evade and avoid. Those who didn’t were at least wearing armor, Jasper seemed to employ neither defense.

The uncertainty caused him to hesitate just a little. Enough to find himself caught by the jedi. The force of getting tossed over alone hurt his ankle as it felt like the Jedi was going to sever his foot from his leg. But that paled in comparison to getting thwacked against the metal floor right after. The pain mixed in with a loud yet silent dinging noise that resonated through his head. He wouldn’t let the soreness hold him back however.

Okuma spun himself around on the floor to where he was laying on his back before performing a kick up to get back onto his feet and facing Jasper. Bringing his hand up to his head Okuma discarded his eyepatch and opened the eye that it concealed. It had a ruby hue and low glow. Looking to rely on cybernetic enhancement to get more of an advantage. His now two eyes scanned over Jasper’s form erratically. Drinking in his details and any subtle micromovements that he could. The kage assumed a unique defensive stance, reminiscent of his training back on his homeworld, Quarzite.

Jasper let out an exhale as he took in the mechanical eye of his opponent. So this was going to be how it was. His eye seemed to be flickering in a manner that suggested observation. He expected heightened senses. Jasper himself had the amulet enhancing his senses. To that end they were on an even playing field.

Or at least, physically speaking they might have been.

The Jedi Master was quick to close the gap, reaching up to his head to wipe a bit of blood from his wound onto his finger. He scrawled out the rune for electricity onto his palm and let his fist light up with crackling yellow energy. When he was up close and personal, he'd unleash a flurry of punches.

"Saram… you did more for me than I deserved. You made me think I could be better. But I can't keep running from what I did… not after Coruscant. I'm not trying to die a martyr, and I don't want their pity. I just want to put an end to the cycle.

What would you do... if one of your own betrayed you? Besides... My Buir'ika is here... I'll be safe. "

Saram stayed silent as Braze spoke. It was a lot to process, even for her augmented mind. Enhanced data processing didn't seem to help, her thinking felt painfully slow, stifled, torn even. Betrayal was a concept that was so foreign, so unthinkable to her, that she'd never even asked herself that question. She didn't know what she would do. In fact, if one of her own betrayed her, she'd hope they'd have considered her enough of a threat to have finished the job. The very thought of Ran, Jaing, Anila, Viraen, Ruusan or any of the others betraying her, hit her harder than she'd ever been hit before.

Saram blinked back the sudden onrush of emotion. Is that what Braze had done? Was it as bad as he was saying? She had no way of knowing the truth, of verifying things. Now was hardly the time to pry, in any case. Peace, however, that was something she understood. She didn't understand why he felt that giving in was his only choice. For her and hers, she would have fought for that peace to her last breath. Then again, Braze was a Jetii, he wasn't a Mandalorian. This was how they did things, and no matter her feelings on the matter, this was how he wanted to do things. He was paying for peace with his own freedom, that was a cost she could never empathize with paying.

The fact that his buir was here was here was what bothered her, that this was the path he had chosen. Then again, he too was a Jetii, perhaps this was just the Jetii way. She shabla hated it, but she didn't have to like it, she just had to accept that this was the path that Braze had chosen. After all he had said she was as ready as she would ever be to do so. "Alright, ad'ika, you've made your point. A heavy price, but k'oyayci. Come back alive," She trusted he'd understand her meaning, obviously he couldn't come back from a prison sentence per se, but she hoped in the very least as he'd promised he'd stay alive.

She'd hate if this was the last time she saw the Jetii who reminded her that even if she didn't save a whole world like her two ori'vode, she was still making an impact. After all, if she could make such an impact on a Jetii without even consciously trying to, who knew how many others she had managed to convince that there was more to Mandalorians than the shabuire out there who wore the armor had tried to prove otherwise.

ꜱᴡᴏʀᴅ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ᴊᴇᴅɪ
It seemed the situation would end without further violence. Jand had anticipated further combat, but it seemed Braze had reached his own realization of what would continue to happen. It was true that the Jedi, specifically those present, would pursue him for as long as needed; it was a matter of setting some wrongs right, a matter of justice, and finally holding the New Jedi to account.

Others would be arrested, also, in time.

But, for now, Braze had surrendered willingly, and the opportunity for arrest had presented itself. Jand stepped forward and nodded as he secured the shorter Jedi's weapons, before he said:

"We will, so long as they remain out of this."

Jand had his own personal sense of honor; he would uphold it. If Braze's companions attacked, they would regret it, and an aggressive response would follow. Yet, for now, it seemed things had reached a crescendo; all that remained was checking on the status of Jasper and bringing Braze in. Jand opened a comm to the Jedi Master:

"We have Braze in custody. He has requested no further violence in return for coming peacefully. Acknowledge?"

A press of a button on Jand's belt sent a signal to the shuttle in the hangar, which the droid pilot received, before it lifted off and circled up to meet the Jedi on the station roof. The vessel approached slowly, as Jand waited beside Braze, one hand holding the weapons and the other ready near his own lightsaber. Just because the wanted Jedi had handed himself over, that didn't mean he was wholly trusted - he had to earn that by showing he would follow his own terms.

"We will return to Ilum and a trial of peers held. Your friends are not invited and are expected to leave us to Jedi business."

As soon as Jasper checked in, the situation would de-escalate and Braze's fate would be known...

Kai'el Brat "Guardian of the Light"

Braze’s wary gaze lingered on Jand Talo Jand Talo , Kellan Jericho Kellan Jericho , and Rakaan Horne Rakaan Horne . All unfamiliar faces, yet from the moment their boots struck the rooftop his somber jade-green eyes had tracked every micro-shift, the way they moved, how they carried themselves, the subtle rhythm of trained bodies. He was drinking it all in, and quietly calculating a plethora of thoughts.

With a slow exhale, he disengaged his sabers and offered them up without resistance. Anyone who dared brush against his surface thoughts would find no welcome, only a barrier like a fortress wall of steel, shut tight and frozen over with permafrost. No cracks, no gaps, and no door left ajar.

Unbidden, he sank to his knees. His hands rose, palms open, a quiet declaration that he held no weapons, nor tricks. Yet his eyes never left them, watching what Jand would do with his surrendered blades. Even now his young mind whirred, assessing, projecting, mapping countless paths forward.

“I have no peers,” Braze said at last, voice quiet but edged with something final as he looked up at Jand Talo Jand Talo .

And it was true. At least to Braze's perspective it was.

A peer was an individual who is equal to them in rank, abilities, age, background, or social status, or someone who shares a similar experience or identity. Peers share common challenges, perspectives, or experiences, which creates a basis for mutual support and understanding.

Braze felt that in truth had no peers. No one he knew or met was like him. Not truly. Those even marginally older than him knew he trained beyond reason on the pyres of obsession. He didn't find joy or comfort from breaking away from the Order to indulge in normal 'teenager' behavior.

There was no one with a heritage as mixed as his, none who had endured the same treatment in their younger years, and fewer still who carried the same weight of potential his vessel could wield through the Force.

Perhaps there might have been a few near his age, but nothing quite on the mark, nor any of them that had spent as much time growing up within the Temple's walls, none who went to war and actively sought to fight as young as he had to defend the Alliance.

Maybe… just maybe Kyric Kyric might have been the closest one to a true peer, but even there lay differences that set their experiences apart.

ꜱᴡᴏʀᴅ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ᴊᴇᴅɪ
Jand observed the younger sentient, his expression remained stoic, unchanged, even as he heard the declaration of lacking peers. He spoke, low.

"Do not mistake my restraint as weakness. I agreed to capture because I respect Jasper, who is a friend and war companion." Jand sighed. "You are correct, we are not your peers... because we are not traitors, nor do we exhibit unimaginable depths of arrogance. Now, cease looking for openings or opportunities to take advantage or plan. You will find none. I am Nagai, your adoptive father understands that implication, even if you try to persuade yourself that you stand a chance of taking me by surprise.

"So, out of respect for him, stop."

The shuttle ramp way opened and Jand motioned.

"Now, board the vessel."

The light-freighter hurriedly set out from the station at Leos' behest. It cleared the hangar as the brief confrontation rose to a crescendo, and for a moment, Kyric considered wrestling away the yoke from Leos to turn the ship around. The thought of leaving anyone behind did not sit well with the kiffar. But rational thought got the better of him.

What he felt from those still aboard the Sable Verge suggested the battle already neared its conclusion.

Braze's intentions from the moment Kyric met the echani betrayed a quiet yearning for something. Support, or maybe a connection, Kyric couldn't be sure. Never harm, pain, nor malice. If the younger man had the opportunity to end the conflict before things went too far, he would.

"Doesn't look like anyone is comin' our way," Kyric said after a long stretch of silence. He rose from the navicomputer and turned back to watch the station grow smaller with each passing second.

There was little in the way of time to identify the nature of the assailants. The kiffar ran his good hand through his hair, pushing it back out of his face as he mentally pieced together what he felt.

Purpose. Discipline. The Light.

That narrowed down the pool of possibilities... sort of. A multitude of traditions existed that favored Ashla over the likes of Bogan. Others prescribed to the idea of mastering both, much to the dismay of the Jedi.

Speaking of the Jedi, Kyric knew not the state of Braze's position within the Order, but he found it difficult to believe the New Jedi Order—or even the Lightsworn for that matter—would pursue the echani this far. What purpose did it serve to capture one rogue Jedi while the Core burned?

"Once we get to Veridia, I'll put out a call to some friends. See if we can figure out what we're facin' here."

It wasn't much, but a start was better than nothing.

"Once we get to Veridia, I'll put out a call to some friends. See if we can figure out what we're facin' here."

"I... think that Okuma guy did something terrible," Leos muttered. "He doesn't act like you guys. He acts like a hired thug... the guys my dad works with. If we ever see them again... I think everything is going to be different."

He hoped Braze would be okay. The Echani seemed to know the people who were coming for him. As the Themian pulled out of the Mud Duck, he saw Braze seemingly enter their custody, no conflict. All the fighting now was left to that... crazy person who boarded the ship. Would Okuma even still be alive? He didn't know.

Maybe this was the last he'd ever see of Braze. He didn't know him well, but this felt so wrong.

"Alright... I'll get us out of here."

Leos maneuvered the YT-1760 to a spot where the space before it was clear and jumped to hyperspace.

The rest was up to fate now.

Kai'el Brat "Guardian of the Light"

"You presume too much," Braze said evenly after listening to the Nagai spin his own narrative, blind to the truth, and blind as well to the weight behind Braze's words. It was the kind of self-assurance that had so often driven Jedi to snap-neck, rash decisions, choices that cost countless lives when they believed themselves right. The irony of the Nagai's speech was great enough to draw a faint smile to the half-Echani's face. Still, he schooled himself not to laugh at a time like this, instead adopting a more austere expression. If they chose not to secure him, that was their folly, a clear display of their own arrogance.

Slowly, he rose to his feet and complied with the request, though his eyes never left the strangers. He had never met them before, and he did not yet know where their intentions truly lay.

Every movement, and every word, could be read as either posturing or threat.

Naturally, there was fear in the unknown, and for good reason. Not knowing one's opponent, not knowing their abilities, their weaknesses, or even their intentions... that was where danger truly lived. For a warrior, ignorance was sharper than any blade, and often served a great equalizer, for knowledge was power. To underestimate what cannot be seen, to presume control where none exists, that was how battles were lost before they even began.

Despite this, the snowy-haired young man betrayed no sign of fear. His posture carried more the weight of wariness, and that of a guarded mistrust, than any trembling uncertainty. Fear, after all, only served those who sought to exploit it, and often opened up a doorway into which the Darkside could penetrate and permeate.

He had wisened over time, and he had listened, however reluctantly at first, when Gabriel Pryce Gabriel Pryce had pressed him to study Jedi history. It was a bitter education. Time and again he had read of how the Order turned inward, how Jedi raised their blades not against their enemies but against one another, convinced that their vision alone was righteous. The tale of the Prophecy Massacre resurfacing now. How many lives had been squandered that way? How many students silenced by masters, how many masters cut down by the very apprentices they once guided?

The lesson lingered with him now; a dangerous truth that those around him seemed blind to. For all their vaunted wisdom, Jedi were not immune to arrogance, nor were they strangers to betrayal. And so he watched these strangers carefully, jade-green eyes narrowed in quiet calculation, as though weighing whether history would choose to repeat itself or not.

Okuma’s inquisitive topaz and ruby eyes watched Jasper closely. Narrowing some as he wasn’t sure what the man was doing. Doodling. In the middle of a fight? They were runes, and Sparks of electricity manifested. Runes and lightning? What kind of self respecting Jedi relied on cheap sith magicks like this? Internally Okuma became offended at the display and clenched his fists.

The Jedi these days really weren’t what they used to be. As Jasper readied their onslaught Okuma would activate his Response IMprOVMENT Package. Once the augment was active his world rapidly began to slow and his natural yellow eye quickly dilated, and he began to feel short of breath. The time to fully make use of his enhancement was limited. His lungs couldn’t oxygenate his body fast enough to keep up so he needed to be quick.

His body snapped into action, moving to intercept Jasper’s own assault with his own. Attempting to outpace and overwhelm the Jedi master by unleashing The Fifty-Two Fists. Okuma reduced this battle into a race to see who could annihilate their opponent first.

It was a bad idea, but his arrogance over facing a jedi like Jasper as well as witnessing their very unjedi-like abilities had the mercenary ignore caution.

His reflexes allowed him to strike first and hard. His fists shot out and retracted like the pistons of a mighty engine. Firstly toward’s the Jedi's abdomen. Stomach, liver, kidney, he tried to hit all sorts of vital spots within Jasper. 52 strikes was the goal, all with lethal intent.

However, he wouldn’t even manage seven before it was too late. Just before the seventh punch was about to make contact with Jasper’s sternum. The Jedi finally caught up to him. His body was already burning from his cybernetic enhancement. His colorless grey skin even began to take a reddish hue. But now as lightning coursed through his body he felt like he was on fire.

It overrode the cybernetics in his body. From his perspective the shocking flurry of blows he was subjected to felt longer and harsher than it otherwise should’ve as the lightning kept him from deactivating his Response IMprOVMENT Package. His whole body seized up, immobile and helpless.

Once the wayward Jedi was on the vessel, Jand followed and nodded to the others in the group assigned to the task. It had been an endeavor, for sure, but it seemed they were near the end now. Justice was important, especially now, and seeing it fulfilled was an important part of how the New Jedi Order would progress forward. There would be no more accusations - especially from governments - that the New Jedi ignored the missteps of their own, that they turned a blind eye.

"Prepare for the departure to Ilum," Jand said to the pilot droid, once all were settled appropriately. "Also alert Jasper to our intended destination."

The droid beeped and began moving its metallic hands over the controls. Before long, the shuttle was escaping the atmosphere and the hyperdrive engaged, throwing the vessel through the stars across the galaxy...

THE TRIAL
0Ut9qV2.png

LATER...
JEDI TEMPLE, ILUM

The Jedi Temple was familiar to those present. Most, if not all, had been to the crystalline structure within the snow and mountains. It was a place of Jedi, a place of peace and meditation, of knowledge and learning - and, at times, of trial and justice. The meditation chamber had been selected for the proceeding, with the small number of Jedi present alongside Braze.

The white-haired youth was not bound; that was not necessary.

"Braze, you stand accused of misdeeds, assault, and betrayal of the New Jedi Order, Galactic Alliance and the innocents we protect," Jand began, as he looked to the other. His voice was low, somber, with hands clasped in front of him. "This tribunal of New Jedi has been authorised by leaders within our order, including those that remain from the Council, to state your crimes and apply sentencing. Your adoptive parent, Jasper, is also present out of respect for his legacy within the order and to bear witness."

Jand turned to look at his fellow Jedi, before he nodded slowly. It was time.

"The following are the crimes this tribunal will seek judgment for:

The attack on, and dismemberment of, a Jedi Knight - Ko Vuto. It is believed that influence and coercion were involved.

The evidence from security holo-feeds of involvement with the disabling or tampering of Coruscant shields during the recent attack.

And finally, the allegations of mind control, affording the possibility of threatening or dangerous or even dark side corruption or actions."

The Nagai let the words settle before he raised his eyebrows.

"Do you deny these charges? You have the option to speak, should you choose, Braze."

Ko was present for the trial. Thankful for those who managed to apprehend Braze informing him of it, and thankful that they could accomplish what he could not after his recent fight on Verida with the young Echani.

He had felt a measure of shame for failing to capture Braze then. His emotions and attachments had clouded his judgment. Not to mention that he still hasn’t managed to fully adjust himself to being dismembered. His fighting style still needed plenty of work.

Still hurting, Ko stood with his cane. The simple hidden bladed weapon gifted to him by his Master years ago. Now it came in handy for supporting his body and weight.

The Kel Dor listened to Jand’s words. The severity of the charges couldn’t be understated. Braze’s betrayal came at a critical moment. Yet Ko did not subscribe to the idea that the Dark Side’s corruption was at play in this case. During his fight with Braze there was plenty of violence and ferocity, but an odd lack of malice. More akin to fighting a hungry nexu. Just going through the motions and doing what it must no matter how grisly.

Kai'el Brat "Guardian of the Light"

Braze stood silently, jade-green gaze sweeping across those present.

He glanced toward Ko with a faint frown before looking back to Jand. An uneasy feeling settled over him and he felt incredibly small and ill at ease.

"I can't deny what happened," he said quietly. "I see my actions every time I close my eyes. I acted on my own volition when I dismembered Knight Vuto. I removed his sword arm because, in that moment, it was the only way I knew to keep him from killing Master Zark San Tekka Zark San Tekka . It was a decisive action of my own accord. The second time I faced Knight Vuto was on Veridia, and I was… commanded to kill him."

He fell silent, searching for the memory of the rainy night. "I don't know why I did what I did. But I felt compelled to follow through. I did my best to resist the compulsion. My body moved without thought... it was much harder to control myself… like being trapped in a waking dream."

He paused, drawing a slow breath before turning to the issue of the planetary shields.

"The shields… I only meant to power-cycle them, just long enough to escape the planet... not to destroy them. I never wanted innocents harmed. Several explosions went off on-site that weren't my doing, and I was caught in the aftermath and injured. I bled to try and keep others safe, even if it cost me. I didn't cut down allies for pleasure. I didn't tamper with the shields to hand the planet over to the enemy. I tried to survive, and to protect where I could, and I tried to keep 'worse' from happening…"

He exhaled heavily, voice softening as his eyes became glassy. He tilted his head upwards glancing at the ceiling and drawing a heavy breath once more before letting it out slowly.

"I don't remember everything from so long ago. I have night terrors about those times I try to forget. I've been fighting something inside me since I was a child… something that makes me feel like no matter how hard I try, it will never be enough. If that makes me guilty in your eyes, then I'll accept it. Just know it was never what I wanted."

He howled before the world around him melted away into darkness as he lost consciousness.

Jasper let out an exhale, his shoulders slumping as he dropped to one knee for a moment. He was quick to remove the amulet from his neck and let his mind breath. The strain was great, and he had not walked away uninjured, but this wasn't anything he hadn't experienced before. Jasper pulled out his communicator.

"Target secure," he relayed. "En route to Ilum. Blip, call Knight Toth. Have him tow the Mud Duck to safety..."

And just to be safe, Jasper procured some of his bandage wrappings from his pocket and meticulously gagged the Kage, just so he wasn't able to say any activation words.

That was the easy part over... Getting his body torn up was preferable to what was to come.

"Thank you for being honest about your feelings," Jasper said as he entered. "But I have some context that will clear things up that you don't fully understand. I've done my best to find everything I can on your condition."

Jasper stepped forward. He still had dry blood on his forehead, but that hardly mattered by now. He put forward a datapad, one which could be passed around with a summary of his findings, as well as the testimony of Braze's biological family. It contained receipts of Okuma's employment as well.

"Braze was conceived in a manner that left him with an abnormally strong openness to the Force," Jasper stated. "Even in my training of him I found his capabilities to be far greater than average. This affinity, for worse, made him a target of a darkside entity, which sought to groom him into a host. It assumed control of his mother and performed a series of psychological conditioning sessions, leaving him susceptible to key words. When he was ordered by the Kage named Okuma to kill Ko Vuto, these phrases were utilized. While Braze claims he acted willingly to bring down the shields, if only temporarily, the direct consequence if he were to ignore the orders given to him would be more of what Knight Vuto witnessed first hand. He speaks the truth when he states he did everything in his power to ensure nobody died. It was either that or be the blade which cut down his allies."

Jasper then pulled up a hologram of Okuma.

"After touching base with Master Tirin Raene Tirin Raene , Okuma has been identified to be a Silver Jedi defect," He explained. "Whatever the case for his betrayal was, he turned his talents to mercenary work. It seems he's also been severed from the force. The entity that assumed the role of Braze's mother Lady Kyoteru Seraphine Lady Kyoteru Seraphine hired Okuma to retrieve Braze and bring him past the Blackwall so that it may complete it's goal of assuming my student as it's new host. He was delayed in his efforts, so he turned to personal grudges. Okuma attacked the Veridian Jedi Temple and reclaimed his lost lightsaber. That is where Ko Vuto nearly apprehended him, only to have Braze ordered against his will to take his life. Braze also made attempts to relay his captivity to others. His call to Knight Loomi Loomi would be the very act that set me on his trail, where he made an effort to offer direction despite the risk to his safety. On Ossus, the tracking device we recovered was only there because it had been left for us to follow. In short, had it not been for his own efforts, we may have never even safely apprehended him."

A sigh escaped his chest. That was it. Everything he knew. It was the evidence clear and concise, laid out to make it apparent that Braze was as much the victum here as anyone else.

"The Jedi Temple on Veridia is looking into a means of correcting this brainwashing to ensure Braze does not be used in such a manner again," the Master added. "My student did not ask for this. He did not choose this. I have watched our best Jedi fall to darkness, kill senators in cold blood, defect to raise the banner of our enemies all of their free will, yet they have been offered open arms when returning to the light. Risen to lead and atone for their transgressions. I can only ask that you consider the evidence as well as Knight Braze's cooperation. I have nothing more to say."
