For one night only! After putting out a call to the galaxy, the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant received dozens of submissions for its starfighter design contest. However, a brutal testing regimen has reduced that number to five remaining contestants. Now, the final test awaits the creations of these intrepid designers: a live fire exercise against Mahporeenian droid fighters! Outnumbered 1 to 20, each remaining starfighter will compete to destroy as many starfighters as they can as quickly as possible, with the winner being selected for mass production by the Imperial Remnant. Who will have what it takes to be crowned king or queen of the scrapheap?

CORROX CONVENTION CENTER, CORROX
MAHPOREEM
OBJECTIVE I: SCRAPFEST 5000

Mahporeem-Con was finally in full swing!

For months, the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant had been planning this event, sourcing vendors and attractions from all over the galaxy to come set up shop in the Corrox Convention Center. No expense had been spared in order to make the convention a success, and the Imperial Remnant had plenty for attendees to do over the course of the three day event. Visitors would find themselves immersed in a world of Imperial and Mahporeenian culture. Dining options and places to shop existed in abundance, and their was no shortage of attractions and activities that visitors would find as they made their way throughout the convention center. Yet, of all the events that the Imperial Remnant had planned, none was as hyped as the fabled SCRAPFEST 5000, a combination of a starfighter design contest and live fire exercise.

The entires to the contest had come in alarmingly quickly, and the Imperial Remnant had received dozens of different submissions from all across the galaxy. Yet, by the time SCRAPFEST 5000 had come around, the Imperial Remnant had narrowed that number down to five different submissions, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses to take into consideration.

From Aurelian of Vandemar Aurelian of Vandemar came the TIE/van Vanguard, an impressively fast moving and agile interceptor type starfighter. Though offering excellent speed and maneuverability, the starfighter had also been noted to be difficult to pilot, and several inexperienced Mahporeenian cadets had already crashed their TIE/van Vanguards while learning how to pilot the ship.

From Captain Charles Captain Charles came the NZ Rapid Insertion Craft, a derivative of the venerable U-Wing Starfighter. Of all the entires submitted to the Imperial Remnant, the NZ Rapid Insertion Craft was perhaps the cheapest to manufacture and easiest to maintain, though its chances of winning the contest were looking quite slim due to the existence of the Imperial U-Wing.

From Alex Stern Alex Stern came the TIE/as Ascendant, a ship striking a good balance between firepower, reliability and ease of piloting, though its speed and maneuverability was somewhat inferior to the other selected entrants. Whether or not that would prove to be in Alex Stern Alex Stern 's favor or detriment remained to be seen.

From T3-J6 T3-J6 came the Mauler Strike Fighter, which was already available on the open market even before the competition had been announced. Such a ship was already in heavy use with the Imperial Corsairs, where it was noted to be effective in its role, though it remains unclear if the Imperial Remnant is willing to use a ship associated with such a unsavory organization.

Finally, from Illithor Du'thra Illithor Du'thra came the TIE AXE, a highly modular and customizable starfighter system. Indirectly inspired by the TIE/sa SLEP, the TIE AXE was easily the most versatile starfighter of the finalists, though one that was also noted to be quite complex to manufacture and required high maintenance to keep running.

Five unique entires, all with advantages and disadvantages. But which one would the Imperial Remnant select as its winner?

To help decide, a demonstration had been scheduled around each of the ships. The idea around it was simple: three ships versus thirty Mahporeenian drone fighters: 10 TIE/D Vultures, 10 TIE Striders and 10 Tri-Wing TIE Droids, with the goal being to destroy the Mahporeenian droid fighters as quickly as possible. The Imperial Remnant wanted to see how the ships dealt with superior numbers and overwhelming odds against them, and this final demonstration would be a good indication of how the ships would perform out in the field.

But before that, each of the finalists were lined up outside the convention center to be displayed to the general public, where their creators could make last minutes adjustments to the ships for the upcoming contest. After all, the crowed at Mahporeem-Con had come expecting a show, and the starfighters involved in it would have to be in top operating condition for SCRAPFEST 5000!
Once introductions are out of the way and the contest begins, contestants will be asked to roll a D6 on the Chaos forums. The contest will take place over several rounds, and every dice roll will correspond to a number of droid starfighters destroyed. The "winner", as in whoever destroys the droid fighters the quickest, will receive a UC prize from me and the chance to have a custom factory item made for them. An OOC panel will choose the ships that gets to be added to the Mahporeem factory roster. Please let me know if you have any questions, and good luck to everyone involved!

An Untold Awakening

My arrival to the first annual Mahporeem-Con came beneath a sky the color of tarnished durasteel, Mahporeem's personal twilight, while the vast bulk of the Corrox Convention Center rose before me like some ancient servent dredged from their abyssal dreams into the waking world.

Within those cavernous chambers gathered five of the most enlightened minds of the galaxy's shipbuilding society, architects of war and visionaries of steel, each eager to unveil their newest creations before the naval command of the Imperial Remnant.

Around me swarmed officers, engineers, financiers, and admirals, their voices merging into a droning chorus reminiscent of cultists whispering prayers before an altar.

Yet my gaze remained fixed upon the colossal hangar beyond, where aerial mechanical beasts slumbered beneath floodlights, their armored hides gleaming like the scales of metallic leviathans praying to be re-awakened.

Though my presence lent the exhibition an air of solemn gravity, I had come not as a participant, but as a witness. I desired to behold the demonstrations, to watch these forged predators ascend into the heavens and carve their signatures across the clouds like celestial predators hunting unseen prey.

One by one they would be unleashed, screaming through the atmosphere on engines that howled like tortured spirits trapped within iron cages, or silent mutes hexed never to speak a sound, each creator hoping to earn the admiration of Mahporeem and the favor of its military elite.

Outwardly I would remain composed, allowing myself to be wooed and awed by their spectacles of engineering mastery, but beneath the still waters of my expression lurked a hidden tribunal. In the silent chambers of my mind, I would measure every design against the standards of not eternity itself, but metal against engineered flesh.

I would weigh elegance against lethality, innovation against reliability, and vision against purpose.

By the time the final machine descends from the heavens and the aerial show's thunder fades into memory, only one among them would stand above the others; the question was, which one?

Illithor was already here ahead of the Scrapfest 5000 attending to other business. He stood in the area designated for his entry to the contest that had recently arrived. The prime prototype TIE AXE arrived recently ahead of Scrapfest 5000, its pilot was busy working on swapping the pod out for the double ball double laser.

The crew and pilot answer questions as Illithor walks in "Hello Avruu, I trust the flight in was uneventful?"

The pilot Avruu turned his stoic looking helmet in his bosses direction before a much chipper voice could be heard, "Hey Mr Du'thra! Never thought I would get to pilot a prototype ship through that chaos. Thanks to two different areas having interdiction fields I got to engage hostiles twice. Booth times they disengaged when I out performed them."

Illithor shook his head in amazement with a smile on his face "I am glad you are here in one piece. This contest means a lot. That ship can replace multiple squadrons with its interchangeable components. Hopefully we can walk away with the win."

The TIE AXE is sitting with its top solar panel folded down over the how swappable pod. The bottom solar panel folded under the cockpit. Along with the few deployable landing feet down. Around the TIE AXE is a large space that has a few racks of parts, racks of different armor panels, and a bunch of pods.

Illithor turns to the crowed "Hello evyone! I am Illithor Du'thra CEO of Du'thra Engineering, creator of this ship. Anyone have any questions about the TIE AXE?"

An Untold Awakening

I sat comfortably within the high-backed chair, allowing its dark upholstery to swallow me as though it, too, understood the virtue of stillness.

In one hand I held a cold, frosty fruit beverage, condensation gathering upon the vessel like the sweat of some frightened little creature, while the other rested upon a datapad displaying the schematics of the first entry; the
TIE AXE.

Pale blue lines and technical figures crawled across the screen, revealing the anatomy of the starfighter in all its austere Imperial geometry. I scanned each section with patient scrutiny while listening to the conductor of this ship's birth speak his opening introductions and intended purpose.

When a question was invited, I raised my hand, calmly waiting for acknowledgment before lowering it again.

There was no need to rush. Machines, unlike living things, could afford the luxury of being dissected before they were born.

Eventually, my finger tapped against the datapad, enlarging the projected cost figures until the price stared back at me like an accusation.

I took another slow drink before speaking.

“The TIE AXE is an impressive creature, but its price is excessive.” I dragged my finger across the schematic, examining the various components and their associated costs.

“Are there alternatives that would lower the manufacturing price without compromising its overall performance? We must remember what starfighters are. They are weapons of war, and weapons of war have notoriously short lifespans.

Pilots crash them. Enemies destroy them. Engines fail. Metal burns. Even the finest machine eventually becomes debris drifting among the stars.”

I leaned back into my chair, my gaze remaining fixed upon the figures.

“A starfighter should not be chained to a hefty price tag simply because its designers became enamored with perfection. If the TIE AXE is expected to die young, then it should at least have the decency to die affordably.”

We Want You!

Location: Corrox Convention Center, Main Exhibition Floor, Mahporeem Military Pavillion, Recruiting Booth
Character: Captain Orrin Darge, Company Commander MSOC "Valkyrie"
Tag: John Mahporeem John Mahporeem Captain Charles Captain Charles Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane R'ayne Asara R'ayne Asara Illithor Du'thra Illithor Du'thra

The heavy blast of air from the pavilion's overhead cooling vents hissed as Captain Orrin Darge stepped up to the main tactical terminal, hoisting the heavy travel case of a disassembled M-120F "Harrower" Heavy Repeater onto the metallic display deck.

His uniform was the rugged, scuffed battle-dress of MSOC Valkyrie—the flat battleship-gray fabric accented with tactical field-green block stripes. Underneath his high collar, the faint, healing crimson lines of his freshly driven "blood pin" were completely hidden, but his demeanor carried the grounded, calm confidence of a special forces officer who had just crawled out of the ash trenches of Oricon.

Orrin set the heavy weapon housing onto the mounting rack beside a deactivated M-31A "Firestorm" Launcher, checking the manual safety selectors before looking out over the sprawling recruitment booth. The pavilion was a clean showcase of the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant's forward military capability. Behind the weapon racks, a pair of pristine, matte-black Lambda B-TIE flight simulators hummed softly, their repulsor housings active as local spacers lined up to test their skills.

He eyed the terminal, monitoring the foot-traffic entering the exhibition sector. Truthfully, Orrin wasn't under any illusions about why Special Forces Command had dispatched him to a civilian convention on Corrox. While his eyes instinctively scanned the unruly crowd, occasionally logging one or two raw prospects whose solid frames or hyper-focused gazes hinted they might possess the baseline grit to survive the grueling MSOF selection pipeline, headhunting these elite recruits wasn't his primary mission today.

He was here to be a poster-boy for the Mahporeem Imperial Army.

Sovereign Command needed bodies to fill the ranks of the conventional infantry line battalions, engineering corps, and logistics fleets. By placing a highly decorated, newly promoted special forces captain at the front of the pavilion, clad in the battle-hardened, custom Valkyrie armor plates that had anchored planetary fronts, they were giving the civilian masses a tangible, romanticized ideal of what a Remnant soldier could become. He was the living blueprint meant to inspire army enlistment.

"Chaos is just unchanneled energy," Orrin murmured to himself, a faint, confident smile breaking across his features as he adjusted a display rack of standard-issue G-12 Assault Carbines. "They look sloppy because nobody has given them a challenge worth bleeding for yet. We give them an anchor, put them through the academy, and hopefully forge them into the shield that protects our borders."

He turned his gaze out toward the edge of the pavilion rail, tracking a pair of star-struck Corrox Tech students who had stopped to eye the specialized ordnance on display in his recruitment booth.

Orrin stepped forward, his presence commanding yet entirely accessible to the locals. "Step up, spacers! If you're tired of siphoning fuel scrap for corporate cartels and want to see if you've got what it takes to become something more, the Remnant might just have a berth waiting for you. Can YOU earn the title? Come show me what you've got."

Charles | Somewhere | Corrox Convention:
He wasn't here to see is design win. It had been designed in a sketchbook during his free time and validated by his engineers. He was here because he wanted to see the other things that would be happening at the convention. The demonstration being the primary objective.

The Convention was already bustling with hundreds of attendees, everyone excited to see the new fighters or the other available stands. In the distance he saw the MSOF stand with two young men approaching it. Good luck gents, he thought to himself.

He wasn't planning on staying for long. Though at this rate he might be staying longer than planned.

Illithor talked to a few people in the crowd before R'ayne Asara R'ayne Asara piped up and spoke.

“The TIE AXE is an impressive creature, but its price is excessive.” I dragged my finger across the schematic, examining the various components and their associated costs.

Illithor walked in her direction as he smiled, first folding his hands for a moment before gesturing as he spoke.
"That it is impressive. But also not designed to die young as you say. The thing is yes this is expensive in the short term. This is merely a prototype... The prime prototype at that. There will be refinements. But one must also look at the trade offs. This is more expensive, but it can be a heavy fighter, light fighter, Special forces shuttle, bomber, electronics warfare platform, and super heavy fighter."

He left there be a pause for effect "The goal was to build something even if not winning this contest would be used for my corporation. It can replace multiple other models of craft & still be better. Like for instance giving it the special forces module, and then heavy armor to counter the expected resistance. Swap out the engines for faster ones it blends into the others of its kind like a ghost. When an enemy sees one they will have anxiety.... what's this one got?"

Really Illithor was in it to win. He mulled over in his head Well, I wonder what I could add to replace other craft?

CORROX CONVENTION CENTER, CORROX
MAHPOREEM
OBJECTIVE I: SCRAPFEST 5000

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, PLEASE MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE DEMONSTRATION FIELD! THE SHOW IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!"

With introductions out of the way and explanations given for their starfighters, the main event was about to begin. The test itself was simple: three starfighters against 30 droid fighters, a classic scenario pitting superior numbers against more skilled and experienced organic pilots. Each squadron had been given ample timing to get their starfighters ready, and soon enough the air was buzzing with TIE/D Vultures, TIE Striders and Tri-Wing TIE Droids, ten apiece.

As a sort of control, the first contestants up against the droids were a trio of STX-TIEs, the starfighter that the contest was looking to have replaced or at the very least supplemented by the winning entry. Against such large numbers, the STX-TIEs performed admirably, destroying all the droid fighters in a number of minutes, though each craft was hampered by its low armament, considerably slowing down the amount of fighters they could destroy every minute. The crowd could seemingly care less, loudly cheering each time a droid fighter was destroyed, gasping at every close call that the STX-TIEs, and yelling and shouting insults at the "enemy" fighters as the STX-TIEs continued destroying them one by one. All in all, it was a perfectly adequate appearance by the STX-TIEs, but the Imperial Remnant was no longer looking for merely "adequate". They wanted excepetional performance, and they were going to get it one way or another.

Eventually, the field was reset, and 30 new droid fighters were summoned out into the air, once again buzzing around in all directions as they swooped and dived, aiming to hype up the crowd as much as possible for their inevitable destruction.

"Next on our list: coming from the mind of Illithor Du'thra Illithor Du'thra , ladies and gentlemen, I present to use the utterly unique and completely unconventional TIE AXE! Let's all give them a big round of applause!"

Three such examples came out onto the field, having been configured by Illithor Du'thra Illithor Du'thra 's mechanics for the his event. They performed some acrobatic maneuvers of their own, but stopped as a series of horns began blowing. That was their signal to begin, and they now had the objective of destroying the 30 droid fighters as fast as they possibly could! The battle was on, and the stakes were high: a poor performance would eliminate the ships from contention, while a good one might just catapult them to the winner's podium. Only time would tell if Illithor Du'thra Illithor Du'thra had a winning design or a lame Porg of a ship!
