Otoh Obari
The largest settlement on the planet - and thereby De Facto Capital of Matravash - Otoh Obari is entirely constructed within a massive Blue-Hole within the Otoh Obari Atoll. The city itself is divided into multiple habitation-domes, many of which are free-floating within the Blue-Hole and connected via enclosed walkways and connecting arms - while others are constructed into the side of the walls. The largest central section of Otoh Obari houses a multitude of businesses, administrative, civil, and military buildings, and functions - with an adjoining dome housing amenities for visitors. A number of other domes exist - each with its own purpose - such as private residences, the largest of which show off a family or individual's personal wealth, as well as the Doge's Palace - the de facto ruler of Matravash.

Otoh Salaris
Otoh Salaris - though a minor settlement - is responsible for the majority of the wealth that is sent to Otoh Obari and then off-world once it's been processed. It is also the deepest known settlement and houses the majority of the Quarren species present on Matravash. Otoh Salaris is a city of wealth itself - housing the majority of the banking establishments and vaults present on Matravash - with many mining conglomerates and corporations maintaining a token or primary headquarters in the settlement; usually within their own enclosed dome. Otoh Salaris is located near a number of Hydrothermal Vents and one of the largest Submarine Volcanoes known to exist beneath the waves of Matravash - it is also considered the gatekeeper to the Blackgrave Cavern - as many of its more secluded and protected vaults are hidden within that massive underwater cavern.

Thaloch
Situated in the only known Freshwater Ocean near the Equatorial Belt of Matravash - the settlement sits both beneath the waves and above, sprawled out across one of the larger Atolls that exists on the surface. The structures that exist on the Atoll house the younger Melodie population prior to their metamorphic cycle to their older, completely underwater dwelling age. The rest of Thaloch is sprawled out across the ocean floor of the Atoll, with only a few buildings sitting in the furthest depths of the lagoon where the oldest Melodies call home. The settlement itself and its population keep out of the overall day-to-day activities on Matravash - though are welcoming with open arms to visitors that do not seek to cause harm or kidnap the younger Melodies. They also maintain a close relationship with the Whaladon and Dour populations of Matravash and regard them with great respect and awe.

Ocearai
Save for a few smaller structures that have been constructed on the many Atolls - such as Thaloch and the manufacturing facilities sprawling across the Otoh Obari Atoll - the city of Ocearai is a massive floating city reminiscent of Ahto City on Manaan or the floating cities of Dac. Though not as large in terms of size compared to Otoh Obari - its capability of traversing the planet via the Ocean Currents ensures that Ocearai is never in the same place throughout the year. The city survives off of the harvesting, processing, and selling of Aquatic Lifeforms as Foodstuffs which are shipped off-world - with some of their more courageous or stupid denizens hunting the dangerous Devilsquid and Demonsquid populations.

Location Information
Capital City:Otoh Obari
Planetary Features:Otoh Salaris
Thaloch
Ocearai
Major Locations:Otoh Obari Atoll
Greater Amaranthine Forest
Adamant Bank Reef
Blackgrave Cavern

Otoh Obari Atoll
The sandy ring-shaped island formed from coral that serves as the entrance to the Blue-Hole that the city of Otoh Obari was constructed within - the Atoll itself hosts the bulk of the manufacturing and production facilities of Otoh Obari. This also includes the primary Space-Ports that service the planet. Due in part to the size of the Atoll, space is limited, with companies, corporations, and wealthy families all vying for space, control, and even power on the relatively small Atoll. What area that isn't dominated by some construct, building, or other facilities, is rare - though staunchly guarded and protected from development to maintain some form of ecological and environmental protection whilst also providing green-zones for those denizens that call the Atoll their home.

Greater Amaranthine Forest
A colossal undersea formation that could arguably be described as a 'Forest' - this massive formation of Coral, Kelp, and undersea flora dominates much of the South-Eastern Hemisphere. Home to a myriad of species, it is also the only known habitat of the Intelligent Mollusk that also call Matravash, their home. The region - which is heavily regulated and protected - is one of the most pristine coral formations on the surface of Matravash - and is carefully guarded by a number of Mon Calamari and Herglic guardians, with even the floating City of Ocearai extending its influence over the region and considering it a protectorate of the city. Its name, Amaranthine, comes from the various shades of purple that the flora and coral have taken on - though it is still unknown as to the reason why the flora has taken on such an appearance. The Matravash Amaranthine Dye is derived from the pigmentations of flora collected from this region - though its production is heavily regulated to ensure that the region is not overly harvested - making the dye a somewhat rare commodity in the Galaxy.

Adamant Bank Reef
A coral reef located near the surface - which has grown atop the flattop of, arguably, the largest underwater mountain on Matravash. In terms of life, it holds one of the richest ecosystems on the planet and is heavily protected by a myriad of laws and regulations to ensure its safety. The only structure in the region is a research station that maintains the protective quarantine around the reef to prevent any kind of illegal activities that would otherwise damage the region as well as studies the native fauna and flora that flourish on the Adamant Bank Reef. Archaeological expeditions have also uncovered ancient structures from a time when the planet had a drier climate before it was covered in water.

Blackgrave Cavern
Beyond the minor settlement of Otoh Salaris is the expansive, twisting, labyrinthian undersea cave system known as the Blackgrave Cavern. At the mouth of this expansive cave system are a multitude of vaults and secured habitation domes that hold the wealth of Matravash that is extracted from further within the Caverns. Deeper, more secluded vaults are hidden further within the cave system which is populated with just as many hydrothermal vents and submarine volcanoes - their structures covered in the mineral and metal wealth of Matravash - though their extraction is highly dangerous and often leads to just as many deaths and crippling injuries. There are even legends from the Quarren population of massive Devilsquids that reside in the deepest reaches of the cavern system that protect even greater riches.

Culture
The Culture of Matravash can easily be described as a melting pot of a multitude of cultural differences in terms of religion, general beliefs, cuisine, and varying other aspects due in part to the large collection of diverse species that call the planet home. This can often be seen in the larger settlements of Otoh Obari and Ocearai - which house the largest population of diverse species. While the native population's relationship with one another can be tentative at best - especially when it comes to the Mon Cala and Quarren populations - the denizens of Matravash are well known for coming together in the direst of times and uniting in a singular front against any threat that would harm the planet or otherwise pose a direct risk to the population of Matravash. This can often be seen in those times when even their civilian trading vessels join with the established Matravash naval forces to protect the System - despite their often lack of offensive weaponry or capabilities.

All in all, the people are often warm and welcoming to offworlders, provided that they follow the laws and remain in their specified locations and zones that have been set aside for them and their activities. Beyond this, the culture is often seen as Xenophobic - however, to a more discerning eye - they are more often cautious and wary of outsiders due to their destructive nature that they could potentially bring to Matravash in the search of its precious metals and gems that are guarded closely. Nature over Civilization seems to be the prevailing theme that drives many of the laws that the local governments - and by extent the merchant families - maintain, placing the preservation of the ecosystem of Matravash over the destructive mining and extraction of the planet's natural resources to plunder for personal wealth. This can be seen in those times when whole Merchant Families that have been caught in a compromising situation in which they attempted to exploit the natural resources of Matravash, have been stripped of their wealth and titles before ultimately being expelled from the planet.

Government and Economy
Government:Merchant Republic
Alignment:Chaotic Good
Affiliation:Independent
Wealth:Wealthy
Stability:Medium

Wealth
A planet of abundance and splendor filled with riches beyond imagination - from deep-sea caverns filled with crystals to hydrothermal vents and submarine volcanoes covered in precious metals and minerals. The bulk of the wealth present on Matravash is buried deep beneath its currents in the seafloor - making its extraction costly and dangerous, even more so when it comes to those riches located in the Oceanic Trenches far beneath the surface. Pockets of fuel - specifically Liquid Hydrogen and Deuterium - make deep-sea mining all the more dangerous - which has caused the bulk of the wealth present on Matravash to remain untouched and sealed within the planet's crust. Strict laws and regulations ensure that the abundant sea-life present on the planet - that also serves as one of its primary exports - are not overfished or depleted. Those Raw Materials that are not shipped directly off-world, are utilized in the production of Finished Goods - such as jewelry and ornamental pieces. Matravash also sees an influx of wealth through its structure as a Merchant Republic - with large cities such as Otoh Obari and Otoh Salaris serving as the primary trading ports that see countless credits flow through them each day.

Stability
The overall stability of the planet is what can often be expected from similar planets on the fringes of the Galaxy that play host to a number of varied species - many of whom, such as the Mon Cala and the Quarren, have a history of conflict. In the larger settlements such as Otoh Obari stability, specifically, law and order are kept and maintained by the local militia forces. Whereas in smaller settlements the stability is often kept by the community and a general understanding of what is and is not moral or upstanding behavior and what activities - such as smuggling, slavery, drug use, etc, etc - should be avoided least an individual be ostracised and banned from the community. This is not to say that Matravash is a perfect haven of righteousness and upstanding law-abiding citizens - as crimes are still committed, though they are largely contained to those quarters which are heavily populated by Off-worlders.

Freedom and Oppression
Those that call Matravash home are often seen as travelers and wanders - those few that eventually leave the surface or rather the depths of the oceans to join the vast trading fleets that issue forth from the System. Individuals are permitted freedom of movement and are often encouraged to travel to the various settlements that lay beneath and above the waves as a means to accrue wealth - both in experience and material. The only individuals that are heavily watched and prevented freedom of such movement without specially issued permits are often those convicted of a major crime or offworlders. This is done to ensure that the criminal elements on the planet are easily watched and tracked and to prevent off-world individuals from damaging or destroying cultural and historical locations and items of great significance to the native population. The massive floating city of Ocearai and the de facto Capital City of Otoh Obari are the only two major settlements that have a sector specifically for offworlders to inhabit and work from - another means to further keep a close eye on these individuals and their activities.

Military
Lacking a standardized, standing military of any kind - Matravash is rather defended by a series of militia that is formed, equipped, and deployed by the separate settlements and cities on the surface and below the seas of the planet. However, much of its resources are dedicated not to its ground forces capabilities - rather - Matravash focuses on its naval power as befitting the Merchant Republic. It maintains two separate fleets - a Civilian fleet comprised of freighter vessels that can be called in to assist where needed, and its Military Fleet which is often retained in the System to protect its holdings and defend the system from attack.

Technology
Often on par with similar Systems in the fringes of the Galaxy - Matravash, for the most part, can be considered to maintain a Galactic Standard when it comes to their level of technology, albeit, that level drops at a steady rate the further one travels from the larger settlements of Otoh Obari, Ocearai, and similar settlements - as technology becomes more difficult to obtain and maintain the further one is from these established settlements. Smaller locations and villages - often hidden in the various Coral Shelves and more secluded Atolls, may have a lower level of technology - still relying on slugthrowers or even more archaic technologies to maintain subsistence. Arguably, one can experience the vast ranges of technological levels on Matravash, from the Galactic Standard to the Stone Age, depending solely on the location that an individual travels to on planet - with the more secluded settlements and tribal groups often preferring a simpler way of life free from the advances of technology.

Galactic History
15,000BBY - The opening of the Kymoodon Era which is marked by the Second Expansion and Colonial Boom of the Republic. During this second expansion and subsequent boom of exploration and colonization, it is a lone Republic Explorer vessel that happens upon Matravash purely by chance. At this time, due in part to much of the planet being covered in water, extensive exploration of Matravash is not undertaken beyond a handful of expeditions to the various Atolls that mark the surface of the planet. The planet itself will remain in the Republic database, though is largely overlooked and forgotten for the next thousand years as events in the galaxy unfold in various ways.

14,000BBY - Following the conclusion of the Alsakan Conflict some three-hundred years earlier - additional exploratory missions to Matravash bring a renewed attention and interest upon the world. Additional surveys reveal the planet's abundant natural resources and future plans for their exploitation are discussed, though no major settlement or mining attempt is carried out at that time. Those handfuls of exploration vessels that return from Wild Space with information on Matravash are quickly forgotten - as many become lost during their attempt to return to Republic Space and others surfer corruption to their databases. A few stranded explorers manage to survive on the surface due to its abundance of natural resources and foodstuffs - though even they are eventually forgotten when they pass, once more leaving the planet a secret jewel of Wild Space - a rumored paradise as fanciful as the stories of Angels that Freighters gossip about in Cantinas.

12,000BBY - Prior to the formation of the Pius Dea and the succeeding Pius Dea Era, Matravash makes a minor appearance in a number of historical documents localized to the Unknown Regions and Wild Space. It is during this time that colonies of Whaladon, Duor, and Intelligent Mollusks are transplanted from their original homeworld of Dac - more commonly known as Mon Calamari - along with a handful of Mon Cala and Quarren settlers that take up residence on the planet. Colonization efforts are minimal, and in most instances, large populations are unknown. It is not until the following Pius Dea Crusades that saw a rampant xenophobic atmosphere focused on the destruction of alien species, that Matravash was largely colonized - more often than not, by alien species seeking a safe haven away from the Pius Dea Fanatics.

11,000BBY - 2,000BBY - With the proclamation of the Ductavis Era and the subsequent dissolution of the Pius Dea religious cult and any remaining vestiges of power they may have had - Matravash entered what could arguably be considered its greatest extent of development for the next Eight-Thousand Years. Large populations of aquatic species from across the Outer Rim Territories and other Coreward Systems, make their own pilgrimages or actively attempt to colonize the planet. During this era of the planet's colonization and expansion, a number of disparate communities are established on the planet. These earlier years however see tensions rising between these communities - which nearly threaten to break out into open conflict - specifically between the Mon Cala, Quarren, Herglic, and Aqulish species. It is only through the intervention of the Whaladons that a tenuous peace is achieved - and even then, it is fraught with distrust and paranoia.

1,900BBY - 1,000BBY - With the Draggulch Period marking renewed strife and conflict in the galaxy with the opening of the New Sith Wars, the planet of Matravash once more became a beacon in Wild Space for those seeking to flee the conflict and find a place that they could call home. A new wave of colonizers and aquatic species arrived and set down their own roots on the aquatic planet. Some older species, like the Quarren, delved into the deeper depths of the oceans to avoid these newer populations, while others welcomed them and worked with them to create new homes. It is during the Draggulch Period that the massive floating city of Ocearai is constructed and set to explore the currents of Matravash. Saris - the precursor city that would later become Otoh Salaris - is also founded in the depths of Matravash's oceans, near the Blackgrave Cavern, and begins to amass a modest wealth and influence. As the Draggulch Period passes into an era that is known as 'The Great Peace of the Republic', Matravash has seen its population nearly triple, and the first vestiges of what would later become its Merchant Republic, begin to form as wealthy families begin to exert their influence.

500BBY - During the continued conflict between the Human colonist of Naboo and the Gungan Natives, Matravash sees an influx of Gungans - this eventually leads to the founding and construction of Otoh Obari and ultimately the expansion of Saris into Otoh Salaris. Additional species are also seen making Matravash their home - with the Melodie community of Thaloch being formed by a group of Melodies saved from a future of slavery by an unknown benefactor. The growth of Matravash's natural wealth through the discovery of the natural resources deep within the Blackgrave Cavern and other deep-sea formations sees their influence grow, with the vestiges finally coalescing into the Merchant Republic as the wealthy families and minor corporations come together and pool their influence. The next couple hundred years are marked by the rapid growth and construction of a Matravash Naval Force - both a military arm utilized in protecting the System and a civilian trade fleet that is utilized in further growing the wealth of the planet.

32BBY - 19BBY - Prior to the oncoming events, the Council that makes up the ruling body of the Matravash Merchant Republic is approached by an unknown benefactor claiming to represent a number of corporations and other systems within the Outer Rim Territories. Though the offer that is provided to them is tantalizing, the council ultimately decides to take a more neutral stance and refuses the offer. With a potential war and threat to their own sovereignty looming on the horizon, the next ten years see a massive influx of construction - specifically in the expansion of the Matravash Naval Forces to further secure the system and ensure their neutral status if both respected and keeps them out of any potential conflict. It is the onset of the Clone Wars following the Invasion of Naboo and the First Battle of Geonosis that causes Matravash to recall many of its civilian trade vessels back to the system; with only a handful of trade missions continuing - and those that do are often see in the presence of well-armed flotillas of Frigates, Cruisers, and Destroyers. Throughout the conflict, Matravash remains staunchly neutral, refusing access to their System to either the Confederacy or Republic fleets - and strictly monitoring their borders to prevent spies from entering or other attempts to gain access to the system from being successful.

19BBY - 0BBY - As the Clone Wars came to a violent close with the expulsion and decimation of the Jedi Order, it is the founding of a New Galactic Order that causes Matravash to fully pull back from the Galactic Stage. Thinking more in the terms of protecting its people and their natural resources from an exploitative Stellar Empire, they utilize their amassed wealth to erase as much knowledge of the planet from the galaxy as is possible. In time, with their campaign being somewhat successful, the planet of Matravash is known as a fabled 'Planet of Gold', with rumors and tales swirling about in regards to its location, its mountains of gold, and the fanciful peoples that inhabit the planet. It is not until the fall of the Empire that Matravash once more makes contact with the overall Galaxy and reestablishes its flourishing and robust trade empire.

0ABY - 425ABY - The events of this period of time are often filled with misconceptions and misinformation in regards to what had happened following the fall of the Galactic Empire - and the eventual rise of the New Republic. While some historical texts claim that the Yuuzhan Vong presented the greatest threat, others claim that it was the first iteration of the First Order that posed the most danger after their destruction of the Hosnian System, the apparent resurgence of Emperor Palpatine, and the near completion of the Final Order. Just as many fanciful tales and historical texts missing context also exist in regards to the events surrounding this era when it comes to Matravash itself - with some stating that the planet had never existed in the first place, or that it had fallen to the Yuuzhan Vong or some other invasion. What little remains from the historical record on the planet itself, recovered only recently, tells a different story. Its location in Wild Space made Matravash an unlikely target for conquest from any extragalactic or reemerged Emperor Palpatine - even considering its abundance of life and wealth. It continued for the next few hundred years as a regional power, utilizing its amassed wealth as the Merchant Republic to carefully guide the economical development of neighboring systems to further their own goals - with even minor contact with such planets as Lastwall and Kazutal.

425ABY - The darkest hour of the galaxy. An unknown individual only later identified by the moniker of 'Zero' unleashes an unknown plague that quickly ravishes the Galaxy and destabilizes the Galactic Community in a matter of months - if not weeks. Galactic Powers and Stellar Governments go quiet and entire systems are left to defend themselves as Governments are incapable of ensuring the needs of their people. Matravash is not left untouched as the plague ravages the planet - it is only those species that flee to the deepest reaches of the Ocean Floor that manage to outlast the virus, and even then, the cities of Otoh Obari, Otoh Salaris, and Ocerai are left as mere shadows of their former selves, ghost towns and cities of the dead as corpses fill the streets. Even the most powerful and wealthy of the Merchant Families are not left untouched - and in the wake of it all, those that remain and somehow managed to survive, are left to rebuild it all.

430ABY - 835ABY - With much of the galaxy decimated from the Gulag Plague, entire Systems seemed to have become depopulated nearly overnight with others left struggling in the darkness. It was no different on Matravash, as the small population that had survived began to slowly make progress in rebuilding. From rebuilding their naval power, both military and civilian trade vessels, to reopening contact with other worlds - Matravash slowly began to flourish once more in Wild Space. Relying more heavily on its neighbors as well as its own wealth, they once again began to open up trade routes and commerce began to flourish once more - though it was only in the last hundred years of this great darkness that the planet seemed to have somewhat recovered - though its population was still slowly restabilizing and once again reaching pre-plague numbers.

836ABY - 844ABY - A galaxy in Chaos - as the Galaxy stepped out of the darkness caused by Zero and many systems finally recovering from the destructive plague, just as many individuals and groups began to look towards the stars to expand their own power. Strange events occurred during this time, from a Robotic Uprising to a strange Black Ichor apparently reanimating the dead. All the while, Matravash sat quietly in its corner of Wild Space, carefully rebuilding and expanding its wealth. All the while, the planet, and its denizens, among the countless billions in the galaxy, remained blissfully unaware of the next great cataclysm that was to grip the Galaxy tightly.

844ABY - In an instant - Billions were gone - displaced from the Galaxy into a place known as The Netherworld. Entire governments faltered and collapsed, their territories decimated and broken as they sought to hold onto what little vestiges of power they could retain. No world was left untouched by this cataclysm, and Matravash - a planet whose population had just barely recovered in the wake of the darkest years following the plague, was once more rocked to its very core. With countless billions disappearing overnight, and those that remained unsure of what the future held - Matravash faltered, though it was only due to its wealth and the leadership of the families that made up the Merchant Republic that the planet managed to survive the cataclysm; even once more leaning on neighboring systems and supporting them as the stage was reset and once more conflict swept into the vacuum left behind by those Galactic Powers that had been gutted by the Netherworld Event.

845ABY - 864ABY - With the galaxy barely surviving the Netherworld, and those responsible for such a catastrophe being dealt with, the survivors began to pick up the pieces in a bid to return to some form of normalcy. Though it seemed that the galaxy was not prepared to allow that to happen. New conflicts broke out as old powers fell and newer powers rose to take their places. And even still, newer conflicts sparked once more between ancient enemies, and a terror that seeks to consume the galaxy has brought together the most unlikely of allies to stand before it in a bid to prevent its ravenous appetite from consuming the whole of creation. In this time of unknowns, Matravash has remained in its little corner of Wild Space - biding its own time and amassing its wealth and power as to ensure that it could stand against anything that might threaten the planet - though what the future holds is unknowable even to the denizens of this watery world.

Srina Talon Srina Talon My apologies that it has taken this long to complete this submission. I'm still making slow progress, and have added a bit more to the submission today. I should hopefully have it finished sometime this week.

Watcher Lord ALRIGHT. So, first and foremost - I am a Codex Judge in Training, so please forgive me for any possible confusion and such.

Second, I love this sub. Very detailed and thought out and overall just plain good. Just a few things to address here and there.

  1. Please change the Manon Alexandre link to the direct Artstation here. Just makes things smoother!
  2. Can you give us a brief description of the world's placement in the V'Shar Hex so it can be easier for map placement in case you go through with that?
  3. Please modify Resources to follow the planet's format. I.E. Change "Resources" to Unexploited Resources, or Add an Unexploited Resources section above it. Any of the linked items that you would like to have in Unexploited Resources, please add them there.
  4. This is just a question for my training brain - where in this submission do you utilize the Pathfinder links aside from "Matravash" and "Obari." Am I just overlooking it? Thank you for clearing this up for me.
Please let me know when you complete these!

  • Artstation link has been added and replaced the previous link that was utilized.

  • Generally speaking, a precise location of the planet in a given hex is usually required when requesting that a custom planet be added to the map via the Map Thread Update located here. I'd like to draw your attention to two of my previous planets, Lastwall, and Kazutal which share a similar layout with their locations being marked as within a specified hex - while their precise location in that hex was added via the above Map Thread Update.

  • The resource section is the planet's unexploited resources. I utilized similar formatting in the Lastwall and Kazutal planets with the omission of the word 'unexploited' to prevent the formatting from otherwise messing with the table. In this instance, it has been edited to include the word 'unexploited' as it appears to not have a detrimental effect on the coding.

  • The Pathfinder links were included to cover any basis or issues that may have come up from utilizing the words "Matravash" and "Obari" as when Matravash and Obari Ocean are both searched on google, the first result is the respected Pathfinder Links themselves.

Heyo! Let's get to it.
  1. Thanks for the updated link!
  2. As per the Planet Creation 4.0 Template - Location: [This can be a screenshot of the hex from the map with a marker, or you can say that it is located "in X planet's hex" and give a general description of positioning. If you intend to add this planet to the Chaos Map please review the rules thoroughly.] You'll still have to follow the template's requirements as written by the Staff. Codex doesn't operate on the precedent of past submissions, as stated in the Generalized Codex Rules 4.0: "The Codex will not base judgments on precedents or the approval of prior submissions."
  3. Thanks for the update there!
  4. Ah, that makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the clarification.
