OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

"Master Jade might be the Order's top blademaster. She even knows Vaapad, the style that's only ever taught to high-level masters of multiple Forms, traditionally. Something to aspire to, eh?"
- Jend-Ro Quill

"She's one of the greatest duelist in the galaxy, and she saved my life"
- Vaulkhar

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Media Name: Koryu, The Way of the Acklay
  • Format: Pages (Book)
  • Distribution: Rare (also backed up to a memory crystal in her possession which only a select people know exist)
  • Length: Medium
  • Description: A page of notes detailing Jade's process in discovering and creating a lightsaber form, and how to go about learning it.

SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Author: Jedi Master Romi Jade
  • Publisher: Self
  • Reception: These are thoughts, observations, experiences, and lessons that Romi has learned over time. She decided to muse and document in her private time with the intention of it helping those who wanted to learn more in the area of lightsaber combat. It's a piece of a larger book she is writing. It's not widely known or available anywhere else for there to be tons of reception. Beyond the pages she authored and spare memory crystal she keeps, this is flying under the radar.

FORMAT INFORMATION
To be included in a larger book Romi is authoring, this reads from left to right on two pages. Handwritten notes, illustrations, and marks that outline her thoughts and her reflections on them, along with pointers, and tips for the studier. The information contained in the crystal could only be accessed when placed in a holocron which, in turn, could only be opened with the Force. Once opened, the three-dimensional appearance and cognitive networks of Master Jade, that could sense the ability and level of a Jedi, would appear to begin explaining Koryu and teaching it's tactics and maneuvers.

CONTENT INFORMATION
These pages cover the lightsaber form, Koryu, The Way of the Acklay:

"It's quick, efficient and focused, and best used in combat against a single opponent."
- Romi Jade

Description:
The Koryu form emphasizes quick, precise strikes and efficient footwork, with the aim of defeating opponents in as few moves as possible. The stance is low and stable, with the lightsaber held in one hand and the other hand ready to grasp the pommel for extra leverage. The style also emphasizes the use of both ends of the lightsaber hilt, with the wielder able to switch between attacking with the blade and the pommel at will. Overall, the Koryu style emphasizes speed, precision, and economy of movement, with the aim of defeating opponents quickly and decisively.
The form drew inspiration from the movements and behaviors of the amphibious reptilian crustacean creature known as the Acklay, a beast with six deadly claws and razor-sharp teeth native to the planet Vendaxa. The gigantic creature is protected by a hard, shell-like carapace of bony nodules. They walk on six hardened, skin-covered

claws, and have grappling hands. Predatory creatures and surprisingly agile, Acklays spear their prey with their claws, biting through them with razor-sharp teeth and snapping limbs -- the form has an emphasis on agility, jabbing and precise strikes at various vital spots.
In the basic stance of the form, the feet are shoulder-width apart and the lightsaber held at waist level. The stance allows for quick movement in any direction.
Techniques:

Drawing Cut: A quick, surprise attack, in which the wielder draws the lightsaber and immediately cuts in one motion. The attack is aimed at the opponent's shoulder or elbow, with the intention of severing their weapon arm.
Parry and Cut: A defensive technique, in which the wielder parries the opponent's attack with the lightsaber and immediately follows up with a counterattack. The counterattack can be a thrust or a cut, depending on the opening.
Rising Cut: A rising diagonal cut, aimed at the opponent's shoulder or neck. The blade is raised quickly from the opening stance, with the wrist turning at the end of the cut for maximum slicing power.
Diagonal Cut: A diagonal cut, aimed at the opponent's torso or legs. The blade is swung in a downward diagonal motion, with the wrist turning at the end of the cut for maximum slicing power.
Thrust: A quick forward thrust, aimed at the opponent's midsection or throat. The wrist is twisted slightly at the end of the thrust for maximum penetration.
Create Void: In a saber clash, manage your strength and hold your ground. Press forward, then slowly start to give ground to your opponent before quickly sidestepping and sending them off-balance and tumbling forward by their own body weight, now you've got full access to their backside.
Hilt Strike: A surprise attack, in which the wielder strikes the opponent with the hilt of the lightsaber. The attack can be aimed at the opponent's head or midsection, and/or vital points in the fourth zone (body) intended to incapacitate, kill, stun, or disarm opponents. -- Visual

"It's not mental toughness, it's biology."
- Romi Jade

Vital Points:
This form emphasizes a set of vital points, or spots to direct blows to the body with your hilt to cause the most damage. These spots encompass super sensitive nerves, pressure points, organs, and places where the bone aren't as thick, built to human to humanoid bodies. The emphasis on knowing anatomy with the form allows users to fend off attackers, and diffuse situations quicker and efficiently because no opponent would be able to protect all of these vulnerable places at once.
Liver: Blunt force to the liver can be excruciatingly painful, and an especially effective shot will incapacitate a person instantly. Making contact to the front of the ninth and tenth ribs upward to the base of the shoulder blade toward the spine, can shock the liver, a center of blood circulation, and cause the victim to lose focus and drive, and can cause a breathless feeling in the victim.
Kidney: Kidneys are especially vulnerable due to their location and are difficult to block because they are behind you. Attacking with a sharp, stabbing motion to effectively minimize the force distribution across the back muscles can cause soreness and discomfort with any movement, even breathing.
Solar Plexus: Located in the center of the body just below the rib cage is the diaphragm. Not only will a strike here hurt, but it also knocks the wind out of you and makes it hard to breathe.
Spleen: A forceful blow to your abdomen can cause a ruptured spleen. It's more likely to rupture causing internal bleeding, pain in the upper left abdomen, left shoulder pain, confusion, lightheadedness or dizziness.
Chin: Striking someone on the chin can knock someone out because it forces the head to twist so suddenly and severely that it rattles the brain.
Scenario 1:

The Jedi, using the Koryu form, faced off against the Sith, who wielded a red-bladed lightsaber.
The Sith struck first, lunging forward with a fierce overhand strike. The Jedi sidestepped the attack, then countered with a quick thrust aimed at the Sith's chest. The Sith parried the attack, then followed up with a flurry of strikes aimed at the Jedi's head.
The Jedi deftly dodged and parried the Sith's strikes, then delivered a sharp cut to the Sith's leg. The Sith grunted in pain, then unleashed a powerful force push that sent the Jedi sprawling backwards.
The Jedi quickly regained their footing and charged back towards the Sith. The two combatants clashed in a flurry of strikes and parries, with the Jedi switching seamlessly between blade and pommel strikes.
The Sith tried to gain the upper hand by using force lightning, but the Jedi was able to deflect it with their lightsaber. Taking advantage of the opening, the Jedi delivered a swift cut to the Sith's arm, causing them to drop their lightsaber.

Scenario 2:

The Jedi, using the Koryu form, faced off against the Sith, who wielded a double-bladed lightsaber.
The Sith attacked first, swinging both blades in a wide arc towards the Jedi's midsection. The Jedi quickly stepped back and parried the attack with their own lightsaber, then followed up with a thrust aimed at the Sith's chest.
The Sith spun around and countered with a flurry of rapid strikes, forcing the Jedi to backpedal to avoid being hit. The Jedi then leapt backwards, somersaulting in midair and landing several feet away from the Sith.
The Sith sneered and advanced towards the Jedi, twirling their double-bladed lightsaber menacingly. The Jedi stood their ground, waiting for the Sith to attack.
As the Sith lunged forward, the Jedi dodged to the side and delivered a powerful slice to the Sith's back, causing them to stumble forward. Taking advantage of the opening, the Jedi launched a flurry of strikes, switching seamlessly between blade and pommel strikes.
The Sith parried the Jedi's attacks, then unleashed a powerful force blast that sent the Jedi hurtling backwards. The Jedi rolled to their feet and charged back towards the Sith, leaping over the Sith's head and landing behind them.
With the Sith off balance, the Jedi delivered a swift kick to the back of the Sith's knee, causing them to drop to one knee. The Jedi then delivered a decisive cut to the Sith's lightsaber, severing it in half and leaving the Sith defenseless.
The Sith glared at the Jedi in hatred, then ignited a hidden blade and lunged towards them. The Jedi parried the attack with ease, then disarmed the Sith with a quick flick of their wrist.
The Sith fell to their knees, defeated.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Romi Jade has always been somewhat of an anomaly when it comes to the Jedi Path. Between 830-840s ABY, In her youth, padawanship to Knighthood, Romi chose the unorthodox in every approach to her training, and highly emphasized overall preparedness for any situation. These traits stuck with her well into her Mastership when she began to take on apprentices of her own. With the structure listed above in mind, she was a hardy and tough Master who ran an intense program that often proved extremely difficult for her students to withstand in the beginning stages.

She went on to open her own Enclave on Jakku that adopted similar practices and used a harsh environment to instruct students in the ways of the Jedi. These practices were still in place when she moved to be Headmaster of the Ossus Jedi Praxeum. Her methodology has always been to provide students with what she believed they needed to start and maintain a Jedi career with longevity in a Galaxy engulfed in constant war.

It wasn't until recently that she decided to document and record her personal history, experiences, and new discoveries. Becoming Headmaster of an Enclave and then a Praxeum, and a bunch of near-death experiences made her want to author some sort of tome and record data for her Holocron one day. The tome once complete will be used to teach the next generations.
