OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To update the shipyards of Mon Cala to the modern era.
  • Image Credit: [ Provide credit to the original artist of the images in your submission. Link to the web page where it can be found and state the name of the original artist if possible. Each image used must be credited. Use TinyEye, Google Image Search, or the Image Credit FAQ to help.]

  • Permissions: [Please link any Marketplace purchase or similar approvals to use other Writers' content as part of this submission.]
  • Links: [ Provide links to any relevant threads, characters, companies, locations, etc here. Canon or otherwise. Especially obscure references, or events important to the submission.]
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Shipyards Name: The Mon Calan Ring
  • Classification: Orbital Ring Shipyard
  • Location: Mon Cala
  • Affiliation:
    • ICMC
    • N&Z StarWorks
    • N&Z Umbrella Corporation
  • Population: Heavily Staffed
  • Accessibility: Access to the physical station is limited to workers and other personnel pertinent to the production and security of the Mon Calan Ring. Other persons who wish to gain access must go through an approval process via the planetary governor, N&Z officials, and most importantly, the Imperial Custodian.
  • Description: The Mon Calan Ring encircles the ocean world of Mon Cala as a continuous orbital shipyard and instrument of Imperial authority. Spanning the planet's equator, the Ring is a segmented chain of drydocks, fabrication arrays, and fortified command hubs, where civilian and military production now operate side by side under centralized oversight.

Once a symbol of Mon Calamari innovation, the Ring has been expanded into a structure of strategic dominance. Its flowing, organic architecture remains, but it is now reinforced with rigid superstructures, defense platforms, and watchful installations that ensure constant readiness.

At key intervals along the Ring, massive orbital elevators descend through specially designed planetary shield interuptors (these hold back the planetary shield from the Axis Mundi) in the atmosphere, linking the shipyards through the planetary shield to the sprawling equatorial megacities below. These transit spires serve as the arteries of the system; moving labor, materials, and personnel with unceasing efficiency while binding the world beneath to the will of the structure above.
OPERATIONS INFORMATION
  • Production: The Mon Calan Ring can produce ships ranging from starfighters and interceptors to star destroyers and the largest battlecruisers.
  • Specialty: While it has the capacity to produce numerous types of starcraft, the Mon Calan Ring is known for its star destroyer production. A large percentage of the Ring has been optimized for mass production of destroyer-class vessels.
  • Output: Mixed - As stated above, there is a large percentage of the Ring that has been designated and optimized for destroyer-class production; however, there are sections of the Ring that are designated for other classes of starcraft. There are sections dedicated to limited-run vessels and specially ordered vessels with specific instructions on construction, as well as civilian vessels, and areas for legacy shipbuilders like Mon Calamari Shipyards.
  • Market: The Mon Calan Ring is designed mainly to supply those in the lower Tingel Arm, the Auril, Instrop, and Tion Sectors, and planets along the Parlemien Trade Route.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Orbital Elevators: Massive transit spires descend from the Ring at fixed equatorial intervals, piercing atmosphere and cloud to anchor within the megacities below. These elevators function as the primary logistical arteries of the Mon Calan Ring, moving personnel, raw materials, and completed components in a constant, regulated flow. Traffic through each shaft is tightly controlled, with dedicated lanes for civilian labor, industrial freight, and military transport. Armed oversight and checkpoint systems ensure that all movement remains compliant with Ring authority, effectively binding the planetary population to the orbital infrastructure above.
  • Ringyard and Offices: The central administrative spine of the Mon Calan Ring, this sector coordinates all production, scheduling, and resource allocation across the structure. Vast command galleries and data-halls overlook active construction zones, where supervisors and officials direct output with near-total oversight. While Mon Calamari design elements remain visible in its flowing architecture, the space has been formalized into a rigid bureaucratic core. Here, civilian contracts and military requisitions are processed side by side, with priority increasingly favoring fleet expansion and strategic assets.
  • Specialist Yards: Distributed along the Ring in semi-isolated segments, the Specialist Yards are dedicated to advanced, sensitive, or experimental construction. These include warship refits, prototype hull development, and modular systems integration for vessels requiring restricted oversight. Access to these yards is heavily limited, with entire sections sealed behind layered security protocols. The Specialist yards also include the few legacy shipbuilders who are authorized to use the Ring.
  • Security Depots: Positioned at key junctions across the Ring, Security Depots serve as both garrisons and rapid-response hubs. Housing armed personnel, patrol craft, and internal enforcement units, these installations maintain order within the shipyards and respond to disruptions with decisive force. In addition to external defense, the depots oversee internal surveillance networks, monitoring workforce activity, transit routes, and restricted zones. Their presence ensures that the immense population operating within the Ring remains disciplined, visible, and controlled.
  • Reactor Grid & Fuel Refineries: Similar to the Bescane Orbital Shipyard, the Mon Calan Ring hosts a long grid of NZ F.A.R. Fusion Arc Reactors, which serve a dual purpose. As with the NZ PF Power Plants and Fuel Refineries, this power grid also has a fuel refinery attached within each section, allowing for storage of fuel onboard the orbital shipyard.

POINTS OF INTEREST
[ What areas within the city are significant? Give a description of any locations listed. You can link structures you've made, or create them on the spot here and provide location entries for them later if desired. ]

SECURITY
[ Provide a Security Rating (choose from: None, Low, Medium, High, Maximum) and any specific security assets in list format. What defenses does this location have, including internal and perimeter defenses? Please note that the rating is relative to the type of location this is. Normal civilian locations have a different scope in security, compared to military locations. As such a primarily civilian location with a Maximum security rating is not on the same level as a military base with a Maximum rating. Consider the 'Stability' and 'Freedom and Oppression' fields when working on this section, and make sure these reflect each other in your final submission. Please link rare or uncommon tech/equipment to the SW wiki article or Factory-approved submission. Common canon items do not need to be linked. ]
