      • Traction grip nodes composed of programmable microstructures (nano-scale articulated filaments) are embedded just beneath the suit’s outer layer on the palms, forearms, and soles. At rest, these nodes sit flush. However, when engaged, the nodes reconfigure their texture in milliseconds, changing from smooth to high-friction grip patterns tuned to the surface beneath. Passive micro-sensors in the palms, forearms, and soles continuously scan texture, hardness, and thermal conductivity of whatever they touch, to identify the surface type. Profiles include ice (microscopic spike protrusions), polished alloy (micro-suction and gecko-inspired molecular adhesion), loose gravel (splayed, high-surface area treads), and yet more. After contact, the programmable surface resets back to smooth mode, shedding dirt, ice, or debris automatically. Self-cleaning transpires via vibrational micro-displacement, preventing buildup that would compromise performance.

STRENGTHS
  • Weather the Storm: Due to its Agrinum impregnation, liquid-aenite electronic treatment, and combat de-ionizers, the Imperial Gunnery Suit is highly resistant to the deleterious effects of Ion and EMP discharges.
  • Super Loader: The reactive polymer underlay offers a moderate (~1.5x base wearer strength) boost to the wearer’s strength. This allows for easier hefting of heavy equipment the likes of shells, missiles,capital-grade weapon power cells, and more.
  • Hazard Duty: The Imperial Gunnery Suit has several protective systems which are designed to protect its wearer in the hazardous, demanding environment of a live gundeck. The most notable of these are the FAE/C-03 BioMedical Support System which functions as a suit-integrated life support system, the integrated radiation shielding (and the accompanying radiation screener), a heat-resistant construction utilizing duravlex and synthweave, and an automatic polarizing visor in the helmet. These systems, and more, ensure that the gunner can remain combat-ready through even the most dangerous firing conditions.
  • Hyper Gunner: The SmartGunner Chip and the Symbiotic Ghost Link subsystems both function to allow the wearer/gunner to simultaneously control multiple weapon systems, provided they have the mental conditioning and training to do so. In addition, the Ghost Link can enact mental enhancement by heightening and accelerating the wearer’s thought processes by supplementing them with processing power from the suit’s onboard computers. Although both of these systems demand considerable cognitive training, willpower, and discipline to become proficient in (the vast majority of users do not come close to unlocking the full potential of Ghost Link and the SmartGunner Chip), the Imperial Gunnery Suit can allow for one hyper-skilled and hyper-trained gunner to do the work of several, if not more.
  • Mentalism Resistance: Frequent uses of mentalism in modern fleet engagements has compelled First United Astral Engineering to integrate stabilizer masks into their designs. The Imperial Gunnery Suit is no exception in this regard. As such, the suit is resistant to mentalist attacks, thereby shielding the wearer’s mind.
WEAKNESSES
  • Direct Fire: While the Imperial Gunnery Suit is designed to protect from plasma “splash” or “splatter” from accidents which might occur on a gundeck, the suit can not withstand most forms of direct small arms fire for long. In this, the suit's protective value comes in the form of reinforced weave, and does not include energy shields (unless the wearer opts to attach a separate shielding device) or hard armor plating. Thus, blaster fire, slugs, lightsabers, and similar attacks will likely see the wearer grievously harmed, barring any additional forms of protection.
  • Acerbic Affliction: Unfortunately, acid weapons are very effective at eating through the suit’s protective material to harm the wearer directly, potentially inflicting a host of dangerous effects.
  • Tensor: In firing compressed tractor beam waves, tensor weapons can bypass most of the suit’s defenses and affect the wearer’s body at a cellular level, with the potential to cause severe injury.
DESCRIPTION
Commissioned by the Imperial Confederation Navy, the Imperial Gunnery Suit is a successor to the venerable Imperial Gunner Uniform used by the First Galactic Empire and the successor Imperial successor states. The suit is designed by First United Astral Engineering, who was awarded the contract for their proven expertise in military cybernetics.

The Imperial Gunnery Suit is in effect, a significantly more advanced, versatile, and resilient version of its ancient counterpart. Like its predecessor, the suit includes several systems to facilitate working in hazardous environments, including those suffused with radiation, heat, and rogue plasma discharges. The suit’s sealed, climate-controlled design allows a gunner to operate in a vacuum or toxic atmosphere for extended periods, making them a durable node in a ship's defensive network.

In order to directly improve a gunner’s performance, the suit includes a Symbiotic Ghost Link, a cybernetic interface that directly supplements the wearer's neural processing with the computational power of the suit's onboard computers. For a gunner with the requisite rigorous mental conditioning, this link enables true cognitive multi-tasking, granting them the superhuman ability to control multiple weapon systems simultaneously with individual intent. The integration of the Mk XII Smartgunner Chip partially automates this process, but the Ghost Link is what allows the gunner's mind to become a central, conscious command point. This capability, however, comes at a cost. The neural stress is immense, and only a small fraction of gunners ever unlock its full potential, thus creating a new elite within the ranks of Imperial gunners.

Nevertheless, the Imperial Gunnery Suit is anticipated to be a cutting edge platform to vastly improve the performance of Imperial gunners. It transforms an elite, hyper-conditioned gunner from an peerless single-weapon operator into a sector command nexus, capable of projecting coordinated, devastating firepower across an entire battlespace. This platform forges a new class of gunner warrior, unifying sentient and machine to impose absolute order.
