Private High-Priority Package

Vinis Rimen

The Last Son of House Rimen
Location: The Ulterior Motive, Trellen Trade Route (approximately one hour out from Rasterous).
Enemies: Ar'tal Ktruok Ar'tal Ktruok || Deryn Kaaldos Deryn Kaaldos
Allies: Kain Seafire
Objective: Protection of the Ulterior Motive, safe delivery of the package.

As a man who had dedicated the better part of his life to trade, captaincy, and commerce, Vinis has dealt with his fair share of low-lives and vagabonds. From corrupt bureaucrats wanting him to move their illegally accrued wealth from one backwater to another to crime lords needing a powerful ship to protect their convoys or operations for a time. Despite his innate and every-growing elitism, Vinis lived by a simple creed: a scumbag's credit is still a credit all the same. In that regard, Vinis was willing to do any job so long as it paid well. However, something seemed off about this job form the start. One of largest caveats when Vinis signs a contract was that he got to decide how it was done and who he brought on for the job. Most times, employers didn't much care, seeing as the reason Vinis was being hired was for his cruiser, not the mercenary companies he brought along.

So imagine the ageing Captain's annoyance when his mysterious employer suddenly informed him that Vinis was going to receive a Bounty Hunter of all people. This was, of course, after the contract was already signed, Vinis had collected his up-front pay and he package, and was halfway to Zeltros. Not only was he stuck kicking around on that pheromone ridden hellscape, but he was forced to bring some sleazy, scum-of-the-galaxy Bounty Hunter of all people. Ordinarily, Vinis had no reason to disdain the more mercenary aspects of the galaxy, he was one after all, but there was a difference between Vinis or the mercenary companies he hired when compared to a Bounty Hunter.

Bounty Hunters were little more than wild children, lacking control or a leash beyond payment. A mercenary company, for all their lack of intelligent members, were at least structured and had some set and established rules. The same could not be said about Bounty Hunters, who, from Vinis's experience, changed their morals, if they had any, by the day. To have one not only wandering the halls of his ship, but also putting to risk his plans for the potential defence of the 'package' made the native Chandrilan very unhappy.

However, he was nothing if not professional. Loathe though Vinis was to admit it, he needed this job. It had a massive payout for what seemed to be a small package, and Vinis didn't even need to shoulder the Bounty Hunter's costs. So, it was en route to the hyperspace intersection near the Rasterous System that Vinis met with his unwanted guest.

Vinis's office, much like the rest of his ship, was mostly spartan and rigorously formulaic. The only sign that a human called this office his own was the single picture, a plain frame with a flimsy photo inside, of his dear niece. Only an in-built hologram projector, which was flipped up and merely awaited commands from Vinis, sat between the Captain and Kain Seafire. Vinis fought to keep the disdain he felt from showing on his face as he addressed this... individual with his typically apathetic tone.

"I must admit, I am not a man to oft accept changes to established plans, less still when they are my own," Vinis's core accent was pronounced even after all his years away from his home planet. He made no attempt to mask the clear distrust and suspicion in his tone, "However, our mutual employer has deemed it fit to involve you, so here we are. For the sake of brevity, introductions are in order. I am Captain Vinis Rimen, of House Rimen of Chandrila, and commanding officer of this ship, the Ulterior Motive."

Finally, Kain got a mission again. It was just to long ago, the last time he had a mission. But who could blame them? Everybody who knows Kain knows, that he's just an annoying fella with an explosive addiction. He just likes to blow shit up and makes comments about it. And to be added, he simply does not care about casualties. But he had to change. The lack of missions was visible in his wealth, which was pretty much non-existent. So he had had to change a little bit in order to receive missions again, but still, his unfunny jokes will always be a part of him.

So here he was, just hours before the contract would start, flying with his shitbox named "Rosalita", which is a Razor Crest, to his destination. The "Ulterior Motive" was it called. Shieet, even Rosalita is a better name than Ulterior Motive. Which braindead Hutt invented that name? But hey, it's not Kain who had to fly this thing.

So here he was, sitting right on the opposite side of the man who was apparently his Allie. Introduction needed, he listened. Listened to Vinis Rimen's introduction.

"Yea yea, I am Sir Francis wet pants, just call me Kain. No need to get into a relationship right ma guy? Just tell me your plan, and I will make sure, my explosives will roll the right guys. The bad guys, right ?"
he simply replied, while smiling and leaning back to his chair. Typical for Kain. Don't care just gemme ma misison.

Astounding, never had a single string of sentences claimed so many of his remaining years. The immediate disdain Vinis felt for this, and he used this term loosely, man aside, he kept his expression as collected as he could. The only sign of his simmering annoyance was the bearest clenching of his jaw before the Captain managed to calm himself enough and respond.

"You irreverence is shocking, Mister 'Kain', unbidden though it may be. However, you make a fair point, so I shall scurry this along. I sense that the less time you and I spend in each other's presence, the better off we will both be," Vinis looked down to the console arrayed before him, activating it with a few deft button presses and swipes. The inactive hologram projector on desk whined for a moment before it allowed a hologram jump into life.

It was a sized-down version of the Ulterior Motive, made transparent so as to reveal its multitudinous hallways and access tunnels. Near the rear of the ship, in what seemed to be a series of storage rooms, was a single red dot. It sat at the end of a long hallway, said hallway serving as the only visible way in or out.

"Our mutual employer's package is located here, to the aft of my ship. It is protected by a dozen of my best men, a series of auto-turrets, and covered by a full suite of security cameras and sensors. A direct assault would be feasibly impossible, so I can only suspect that any potential sneak-thieves will not try their hand at such an audacious plan. A tram system connects the storage area and the main through-way of the ship. It is only reactivated on shift changes, which happen on an interval of eight hours," Vinis droned, taking great relief in the act of planning and reciting said plan. Loath though he might this strange Bounty Hunter, Vinis could always find serenity in such repetitive tasks. The projector shifted now, the dot revealing the package vanishing in place of a pair in rooms at the far end of the tram hallway, "Located here and here, at the far ends of the hallway, are an additional ten men, two squads of five each, ready to move and assist the primary defence team at a moment's notice. My 'plan', as you so aptly put it, is to keep this entire section locked down until our impending arrival at Commenor. From there, we turn the package over to our employer's people and go our separate ways."

Vinis finished his spiel and raised his gaze to the Bounty Hunter seated before him. To be completely transparent, Vinis did not expect anyone to be foolhardy enough to attack his ship, not especially with the nearly two-hundred armed personnel scattered across its many decks as well as its in-built security systems. It was troubling as well as insulting that his employer felt it necessary to throw some vagabond his way, but Vinis had bills to pay just the same as everyone else in the galaxy.

"I cannot fathom why our employer saw it necessary to send you, Mister Kain, but out of respect towards him... or her, I shall allow it... That, and the fairly large paycheck I get in return. A room has been set aside for the remainder of your... 'stay' aboard the Ulterior Motive. You may remain there or travel the ship, frankly, I do not care. Just refrain from making your presence known on my bridge, and I'm certain we shall both survive this trying ordeal. Are there any pressing questions, Mister Kain?"

"Well, I am not here to make friends, so why pretend to be friends?"

A simple reply from Kain. He went silent as the Gentleman started explaining his Plan. As he was explaining and showing with the help of his hologram what everything was about, Kain tapped on his comlink on the right arm. He downloaded the files, in order to look at them later on. It was necessary since he wanted to know, every entry points possible.

"Imma quickly grab that info, if that's ok. I have to review the plans of the ship, in order to see what I can do to help"

He kept looking at the hologram listening to the old man, but one thing was questionable. With so many mercenaries and Soldiers standing there, why hiring a Bounty Hunter for extra help? It seemed like that was enough, but hey, a good Bounty Hunter never asks questions, especially Kain does not. So he just ignored that fact and kept listening. When Vinis was done explaining and looked at Kain, he had no questions so far, seemed pretty simple and easy for him.

"Nope"
he simply replied and stood up.

"Don't worry I won't be making my presence known, except you guys keep some sexy Twi'ileks here, but I don't think so. I will be in my room, preparing and building some gear for when shit goes down, what always happens"

He turned around in direction of the Exit and walked to the door, where he stopped for a second and turned his head.

"I hope y'all don't mind me blowing Attackers up, that's my specialty" he added and put on his helmet. With a simple military salute he exited the room and went straight to his room, Vinis kindly offered him. There he sat down and started working on grenades, as well as tripping mines and EMP-grenades cause you never know if some Bounty Droids will be coming.

"Finally....." Deryn said as he slipped into his armor and out of the one of the mercenaries' armored garb. The room around him in the cargo bay was painted red and the bodies laid strewn all about it. The fight was roughly a few seconds long, not a single blaster was shot, not after he grappled them all out of their hands with his musclecords. It felt uncomfortable being in that armor for so long, he wasn't used to being inside anything except his own. He felt too light in there and there was overall too much exposure. It smelled too and Deryn has a particularly strong nose.

"I'm in." He said to his partner, Ar'tal Ktruok Ar'tal Ktruok , as he pulled out his weapons from the plasteel cargo crate he smuggled them in along with his armor while he was disguised as one of the hired mercenaries whom he had killed off-ship. Slipping on his Flamethrower, he readied himself for a battle towards the rearmost storage bay, which was luckily just a few rooms down his current location, though far more well-guarded. Though, he didn't particularly worry about having to fight through them. What he was worried about was the fight back. He was planning a get-away on one of mercenaries' ships but he needed something to distract the artillery from destroying them as they fly away.

"Bombs ready yet?" He'll steal the package, his partner will disable the ship. Easy steps but easier said than done.
