Rebreather
- Ironhide Alignment: The armor works with the wearer’s use of the Force without interference. Movement and control remain clear while active, allowing the wearer to act without fighting the suit.
- Packforged Deployment: The armor deploys from the gauntlet in a controlled spread, forming around the body when needed rather than existing as constant bulk. Mobility is preserved until the wearer commits.
- Fangguard Shielding: The nanites can form a solid forearm shield capable of catching or redirecting incoming fire and close-range strikes during critical moments.
- Ironbound Hold: Once deployed, the armor remains active and stable through the duration of the engagement, supporting sustained combat without reliance on cycling systems.
- Packbreaker Integration: The system supports localized counter-field functions, allowing the wearer to continue operating in hostile environments where nullification effects are active.
- Shapebound Adaptation: The nanite structure shifts and re-seats with the wearer, maintaining coverage whether fighting as man or wolf without restricting movement or tearing under transition.
- Locked Fang State: Once deployed, the armor remains active until the engagement concludes. It is not designed for mid-fight retraction or redeployment.
- Ironhand Dependency: Deployment, shielding, and counter-field systems are routed through the gauntlet. Damage to this component reduces or disables the armor’s overall function.
- Hunt Focus Demand: Counter-field systems require deliberate use. Poor timing or rushed activation can reduce effectiveness or leave the system temporarily offline.
- Forge Cycle Limits: Integrated disruption systems have finite operational cycles and require reset or maintenance after extended use, limiting their reliability in prolonged engagements.
- Crushing Pack Pressure: The armor is built for direct confrontation, not prolonged exposure to heavy, continuous fire or layered area denial. Under sustained pressure, cohesion degrades, forcing reliance on movement and aggression rather than endurance.
Gerwald did not decide all at once that he needed a new set of armor. The need showed up in small ways during recent fights. There were moments where the suit did not follow him as quickly as it should have, and the delay was slight enough that no one else would have noticed it. It was enough that he felt it, and once he did, it stayed with him.
It had not always been like that. The first time Voph gave him armor that shifted with him changed how he fought. There had been very little said at the time, but the difference had been clear. The armor moved when he moved, and it did not force him to think about it. He had accepted that without question and had never needed to revisit it.
The second set came later, after he had taken command. It had been given in the same way, without explanation or ceremony, but it carried a different weight. By then, the expectation was understood. It was not about making him stronger. It was about making sure he stayed where he was needed when things turned.
That armor had held for a long time. It still did what it was built to do, but it no longer kept pace with him the way it once had. Gerwald did not see that as failure. He saw it as something that needed to be addressed.
He began building again with the same foundation. There was no reason to discard what already worked. The structure remained intact, but the way it responded had to change. He worked on it until the system followed him in motion rather than waiting for him to settle. The difference was not in strength or durability. It was in timing.
The process took time. Early tests showed where the armor resisted or lagged, and each of those points had to be corrected. He made the adjustments and ran the tests again until the resistance was gone. There was nothing complicated about that part. It required attention and repetition until the outcome matched what he expected.
He knew when it was right. The armor moved with him without hesitation, and there was nothing left that required correction. He sealed it and stepped back once the work was done.
This was not a replacement for what he had worn before. It was the next step in the same progression that had started when Voph first gave him armor that did not get in his way. Gerwald did not name this one, and he did not feel the need to. The next time he stepped into a fight would tell him everything he needed to know.
