SPECIAL FEATURES

 • Can deploy an energy shield capable of blocking physical and energy attacks.

 • Able to launch a shield as a weapon to attack enemies at a medium range.
Strengths:

 • Like many shielding devices, the Ancile Shield is able to produce a shield like a buckler on the back of someone's arm, able to block any attack which comes its way be it a physical attack, or an energy attack. The shield can be used to block attacks or strike against someone else at medium range much like a physical shield.

 • Wham!!: The shield can be launched from the gauntlet it is built into, acting as a physical projectile, impacting an opponent with significant force, a useful surprise.

 • Fast charging: The capacitor is designed to charge quickly. Just slot it in and it’s ready to go in 30 seconds.
Weaknesses:

 • Limited power: In order to facilitate the ability of the shield to be launched from the gauntlet all its power is run through a capacitor. The capacitor can only hold so much charge at any one time, meaning the shield is easily overwhelmed when hit with a large enough force. If the shield is launched, the capacitor will retain enough power to maintain the shield for long enough to strike its target, or block an attack before it runs out of power.

 • Key part: The Capacitor disk is a key part of the shield, all its energy running through the device. This allows the shield to be launched at a moment’s notice, but on the other hand, it gives the shield only a limited capacity before it fails. The Capacitor can charge quickly, but it is unable to sustain itself against a sustained barrage like some other shields can. While the shield is active the capacitor is unable to receive a charge from the power supply, forcing the shield to rely onto on the power stored up to work. When the shield is deactivated though the capacitor can charge. This limited power access to the shield prevents it from being as capable a defender as a pure shield, and prevents it from lasting for too long once it's thrown.

 • Power source: Like anything, a power source is needed for the shield to operate. It can be used as a gauntlet for everyday use or built into an armour system. The more powerful the power source backing it, the longer the shield can keep recharging before it runs out of power.
DESCRIPTION

Shields, everyone uses them, they’re what keeps us alive when the world around us is raining blasters and hailfire. Most people use their shields as a purely defensive tool, something that they can use to block attacks made against their person. The engineers at Locke and Key Mechanics had another thought though, why did it have to be purely defensive. Why not give the shield an offensive component, a way to make them more versatile, more useful in any situation you might find yourself in.

To this end, they placed the shield emitter atop a deployable capacitor, a set up that allowed the generated shield to be flung at enemies, a means to surprise them. The shield can provide a nasty physical blow, a surprise to someone who isn’t expecting the energy construct to come flying at them. Unlike a light shield, the energy of the Amcille shield is strictly bound within its magnetic containment, providing not a cutting force but a concussive blow on impact.

However, the power of the shield is limited by the capacitor that it needs to use, meaning that it can not match the sustainability of a shield tied into a stronger power source. On the other hand, with a flick of your arm you can send it flying, striking an opponent from far away, or if needed blocking an attack you couldn’t quite reach.

Does it block lightsabers?

Also, when fired from the gauntlet - is this supposed to be like an energy disc, mass sustained in an electromagnetic field similar to that of lightsaber or what? When it hits a target, is the effect that of a blaster or something else.

Could you clarify these points first and then we can move on with the review.

Thank you.

When being used as a shield the Ancile is designed to block energy or physical projectiles, just like any energy shield. I've put a capacitor on the system to keep the shield from being able to block too much. Sustained fire or lightsaber strikes will draw down the energy in the capacitor. The best way to think of it is like Reinhardt's shield from Overwatch, it has so much power, and can't regain more until the shield is shut off.

In regards to the projectile, it is meant to be an energy construct within a magnetic field, similar as you say to a lightsaber, but without the cutting power of the blade. It's a blunt object, meant to be the same as if you'd thrown a shield. The effect when hitting a target is just a physical strike as if you were being hit by a physical object. It has no power to cut, no power to burn like a blaster bolt, it'll just transfer the force of its momentum into whatever it hits. Basically, if I'd picked up a chair and thrown it, but loaded onto your forearm for easy throwing.
