As technology and warfare in the galaxy progressed technology also had to move along with it or be left behind. For the engineers at Locke and Key their focus was on communications devices. More and more people were switching from standard communications devices to alternate forms of communication, many people looking at biological components to create communications links that normal forms of ECM would be unable to block. Faced with this twist in the galactic landscape Locke and Key Mechanics wanted to find a way to deal with the new forms of communication. ​

In order to do this, they had to look into the history records till they found a Nihil smokestone, a mineral which had the ability to act as a mental transmitter and receiver. Locke and key mechanics took the crystal, treating it much an old-fashioned crystal radio. The crystal frequency unit is able to adjust the frequency of the Nihil smokestone, allowing it to act as a receiver and transmitter for telepathic networks. The system is unable to match the long-range telepathic communications of some biological telepathic communications providers such as the Vilips of the Vong, however within a shorter area, analogous to other battlefield-level communications systems.​

The devices were able to sense and detect telepathic communications as well as transmit messages, the engineers at Locke and Key knew that many people who were using telepathic networks were doing so with the express goal of bypassing the electronics warfare that saturated a battlefield, and so they decided to take their newest invention and use it to tap into those networks. The frequency modulator is connected to an electronics system similar to a set of droid brains designed to control the modulation of the Nihil smokestone and parse the information which was received from it. The secondary benefit of this system is that it can transmit, allowing it to slice into a system via any vulnerabilities in the telepathic network. ​

A side effect of this set is that if the system is slotted into a comms system then the droid brains would be able to parse the information from the system into and out of the telepathic networks, allowing a normal comm to connect to those telepathic networks. Another side effect of the system is [SIZE=9pt]its[/SIZE] ability to connect to the communications of telepathic species. The system is designed to primarily be a form of long-term communication unless that is that you take the time to tune it to an individual beforehand. In the case of a short telepathic communication between two individuals, you would have to be very lucky to be on the frequency to receive it, but if it's a longer communication the smokestone could tune in to catch it.​

Great submission, and I see Shuk mentioned I noticed your pre-Factory sub in his.
However I have some questions, the entire description sounds like telepathic communication is a technology thing, and not natural one. S

• I and those with whom I play (not just on Chaos), when we are playing characters with telepathy (with Force or non-Force based telepathic abilities), they are able to rule out the or receive the connection if this someone is trying to connect to their mind. This is why most of the people who has telepathy build mental shields to protect their mind.
• So... peoples who are not using such network what you mention, just speaking each other and they keep a bridge between each other... they can sense if this technology try to break into their communication and their mind and try to attack their mental shields?
• And they are able to protect themselves or rule out this communication?
• And if I understand correctly what I call bridge, that is what you call network?
• Or this is not able to join those conversations which ones happening only two people, just to those which ones are larger scale?

Telepathic communication is a natural means of communication, this technology is meant to allow people to use it technologically as well, for those who don't have the ability to use telepathy naturally, or to allow tech systems to communicate with one another via a different medium.

In that way, it is just like any other form of telepathy. And as always on chaos, that means that the defender decides what works, and how far. So if someone tried to break into a telepathic link between yourself and another writer then it is up to you if they are successful or not, just as if you were to try to break into a telepathic network created by the Harmonia it is up to the users if you are successful or not.

Just as a force user can use telepathy to try to intercept your communications, even if not a part of the link so can this tech. In most ways it's similar to a telepath in how it would interact with established connections, and the same rules apply.

Thank you for the explanation. Then I have one more question. Is this also able to connect to the communication that happens through the Force, or to only non-Forced base telepathy, which is really between two (or more) minds without Force and space magic?

I'm not sure there's a difference, telepathy is the ability to read thoughts and communicate, whether it's source is the force or a native power the basis of it remains the same and therefore the basis of the telepathy is less critical to this tech than the fact that it exists.

I'm basing this off this passage from the Wookie article on Telepathy:

"Some species, such as the Iktotchi, the Anzati, the Hortek, the Quermians, Zeltrons, Umbarans, and the Draethos, had evolved a natural telepathic ability, common even to those of their number who could not touch the Force. When trained as Jedi, their natural talents were often magnified a thousandfold or more."

This shows that the same connection existed whether it was based on the force, or native abilities since the Jedi's training enhanced the already existing natural ability. Mind-to-mind-to-mind communication is the same, regardless of where it came from.
