Suggestion Galactic Reapers Mandate

I've been thinking about possible ways to increase map tension and also facilitate the organic development of impactful events and I've come up with an idea for a mandate, which I think could help things a bit.

Galactic Reapers
Strengths:

  • Faction gains 2 additional hexes for each completed dominion
  • Faction gains two free SSDs upon selecting this mandate
  • Faction can initiate simultaneous invasions against multiple factions
Weaknesses:
  • Three months after this mandate is selected, the faction goes minor
  • Once selected, this mandate can not be changed
This mandate represents the "galactic threat" type of factions, the kind of factions which emerge very suddenly and violently upon the galactic scene and expand extremely quickly like a sudden tidal wave (think Yuuzhan Vong), burning every world in their path. The downside is that they burn out just as fast, overextending themselves and eventually fall apart, either through the efforts of the rest of the galaxy, or because of infighting, overstretched supply lines, or a variety of other factors.

Such a mandate would increase the tension on the map by allowing the creation of major factions which emerge onto the galactic scene spontaneously and expand extremely aggressively, thus posing a signifficant threat to the other factions on the map. With their ability to gain territory very rapidly and launch as many invasions as they like, these factions represent an existential threat that is there to shake things up and potentially cause massive and dramatic changes upon the galaxy.

Meanwhile, the other factions on the map have to resist this onslaught and endure out the siege, until the threat is either dealt with, or burns itself out on its own.

What do you guys think?

Kainan Wolfe Kainan Wolfe The idea is interesting, but absolutely no from me on not being able to change the mandate. Three months is a long time to do stories, and a lot of things can drastically change both IC and OOC for all of those involved. Also if they're going back minor after those three months, why would they even do doms?

Scherezade deWinter Scherezade deWinter The idea is that the factions with this mandate would gain a lot of strengths, making them extremely powerful, but at a very steep price. This isn't a mandate meant for factions that want to build a long-term presence on the map, its for factions who want to shake things up on the map in a dramatic way. The emergence of a faction with this mandate would, in essence, be a mini-event in and of itself, due to their ability to expand so quickly and invade as many factions as they like. The existing factions on the map would suddenly face a siege from the Reapers and would probably have to work together in order to survive, or risk losing large chunks of their territory.

Kainan Wolfe Kainan Wolfe I like this idea a lot, and I mean a lot. SSDs are not used enough in battles, and this gives a faction a reason to use one of their most powerful assets. The idea that this faction gets a lot at once, only to lose it all in the end so that they can powerhouse the map to help keep it fresh is an idea I support. This is something I would love to do. This is the faction that could use a superweapon, because in the end it's going to get removed, just like them and therefore this faction is encouraged to go all out, to shake it up.

Edit: I would use this mandate if it were used. If anything I say give this mandate a test run.

This would not be a solution...rather an addition if anything. ICly the idea is great and very chaotic but it doesnt take in consideration the OOC aspect of Faction politics. No one is gonna be a "Galactic threat" if the opposing factions dont agree to see them as that. Its something no one can really change too. Im for this suggested mandate to pass if it was considered to be added though.

The Red of Sinner The Red of Sinner - your right its going to take alot more than a single mandate to bring a so called "solution" to the current state of things. Although I support it I also see Ellie Mors Ellie Mors 's point too. This mandate has the potential to be very vexing. Much like how rebellions were used back in the day when it was first implemented.

I understand what your saying, and I dont disagree with you at all on this, but this mandate would be optional as well as the using that specific strength that comes with that mandate. Not only that, I would like to think that a faction deciding to take this mandate understands what it is this mandate was specifically designed for.
But I mean....there are multiple invasions going on anyways involving the same factions. So it's not like this isnt something that isnt already done to an extent.

The issue is minors can’t field SSD’s one. So the work that goes into making an SSD... let alone 2... just het archived in 3 months time or less doesn‘t seem worth the investment of time.

I also have a direct problem with here are 2 free SSD’s.

This just seems like one of those ideas thats DOA from the start.
