Forever a Student(SJO/Jedi)

Valae spotted Jerit approaching, and she offered him a warm smile as he took a seat next to her. It was nice to see him again, the last time had been during battle on Ord Radama. She was glad to see that he had pulled through.

"Thank you," She grinned, "It'll take some time to get used to."

During her own years as a padawan, the rank of master seemed so far in the distance -- she wasn't sure if she would make it there. And now, it almost felt strange. But she supposed that things wouldn't be that different, more responsibilities, but she would continue to learn and practice just the same.

"Before you know it, you'll be a master, too." She nodded, "How have you been?"

Her attention was drawn towards the Grandmaster for a moment, and Valae offered a quick wave. While she hadn't planned on jumping into a practice session, maybe it wouldn't hurt to brush up. But for the moment, she was content to watch.

"Be over there in a bit!" She called back to Arisa.

She watched with a quiet smile as new arrivals made their way over to the training area.

Dagos came out of his meditative state and found the courtyard that had been just moments ago sparsely populated was now teeming with people including his friend Yurioc, recently promoted master Kitra and the grand master herself.

Arisa called Yurioc and another padawaan over to join her. She also extended an invitation to the group at large but Dagos held back feeling he would only be in the way of the Grand master and her apprentice.

As she approached closer she sensed that [member="James Mathison"] noticed her, "sure". It was a quick response, she wasn't one for conversation with a a large group of people she did not know unless she was required to elaborate on a subject. Coming to his side she observed the Jedi as they practiced Kata's, mediation as well as light saber combat stances. She had never really bared witness to such a large number of light side force users all in one place, being around Sith and dark presences for the past month the large amount of light emitted form the Jedi seemed..... alien to her, as such she hesitated to accept it embrace shunning it for the time being.

Looking around she too noted the mandolorian ([member="Viathae Qarmast"]) approaching the group in her iconic armor, a Jedi mando seemed to be a strange thing to her, though knowing not all of them to be extremist, honor, warrior type, one that embrace Jedi teaching, even a fighting centered order like the SJO seemed weird. Perhaps they was an outcast like the other's she had met on her travels, though instead of becoming a mercenary or bounty hunter, actually put their skills to use in keeping peace.

Looking further around she observed [member="Alana Vettry"] and her form 3 stance while [member="Arisa Yune"] instructed her, being one to prefer Ataru and its aggressive form of fighting, she didn't really know if her stance was good, but judging from [member="James Mathison"] look italright. As more Jedi came to the group or finished their meditation she felt even more out of place, perhaps coming her wasn't the most logical idea, still it was better then the time she visited Korriban.

James looked around to the area that filled with training Jedi all around them. He looked down to the young woman beside him and thought, kark it.

"Care to spare? I could use the exercise. Be gentle, I'm old and rusty." A drop of humor in his voice to loosen the mood the Apprentice held.

He moved to an open area with a sizable clearing of others for safety. He removed his outer robes to reveal a sleeveless shirt and combat pants. He tossed the robes onto a bench and laid his sabers in the robes. Moving to his position, he slid his right foot back, brought both hands up in a boxing stance. Start off simple then move to other techniques, that's how James liked his combat.

"Let's see what you got Apprentice. By the way, my name is James, what is yours?"

Natesh was quite interested in the fight that was about to ensue. Then, the grandmaster joined them. After hearing her requests, he thought about it for a bit. He decided that he could always practice the basics, and should. So, he answered, "I'd like to join in on the practice, master. Any pointers on, well anything, would be greatly appreciated." He went over to Master Yune and bowed respectfully. With this, Natesh drew his blue lightsaber, but before activating it, he lowered the power. Once it was down to practice mode, he watched as the hot blue energy shot out. He lowered himself into a simple Ataru stance without moving yet. Ataru was definitely his preferred form considering his size and maneuverability. He wanted to see if he could improve on the starting stance, even though Ataru users don't stay still long.

When [member="James Mathison"] asked to spare she was a bit relived, standing around awkwardly not doing anything felt strange, "I guess, extra practice is always good". She still kept the dry mood, she noted the mans attempt at humor, but offering a fake smile would have just made her look like an idiot. They made their way over to the free space, once they stopped she un-cliped her belt which held her light saber, blaster and other equipment. She waved her arms around a bit, giving a slight warm up and observing the area and how much room they had to spar in, it would do fine.

As James got into his fighting stance she observed him, trying the gauge the mans strengths and weaknesses, but was drawn out for the moment by his question, "My names Sky'ito, its nice to meet you James", She entered her own stance keeping a slightly lower profile retaining good balance, putting her right hand in a slightly opened fist at a 45 degree angle to her face with her left hand the same just in front my a few center meters. her fighting style focused on parrying with the hands and grapples with a combination of swift kicks to pressure points on the legs to bring an opponent down.

She started to inch slightly closer to Jame's awaiting his move, as well as trying to find a point from which to attack from.

James shook his shoulders out a moment and began a slight bob, his body rocking side to side. He ,almost, danced towards Sky'ito, her stance seemed like a defensive one. So to gauge her response, James snapped a quick jab at range with his left hand. This would register her response and make inferences about her technique.

A quick sidestep fainted retreat, but was followed up by a low hook to Sky's right ribs. He right hand shooting up in guard to protect his face from any counter attempt.

He was merely getting her moving. Seeing how she'd react, testing her instinct. If either punch landed, it would be hard, but hardly damaging, even to a teenager.

She kept eyes trained on [member="James Mathison"] while the distance between the two close, the boxing like style stance that was shown earlier made her expectant of a punch once in range. This turned out to be right as a fast-left jab was thrown towards her center, quickly with not much effort she used the left hand to glace the blow further to the left, followed with using the right hand to fully push the punch away from her body.

She backed off a bit from the momentum of the punch, this gave a good amount of time to see the incoming jab aimed at the ribs, as the fist got closer she brought the elbow of her left arm down in an attempt to hit the mans writs as a means to intercept the punch mid swing, as well as bring her right hand down to try and palm it away. In addition to this she made sure to keep good balance so if the blow did connect she could ride the momemtm back without being pushed over.

During the entire spar she kept a level head and calm emotion, not wanting to slip up due to it only being 'practice' but also out of not wanting to give James the pleasure of amusing her.

In an attempt as to not be stuff herself away in her room, Raven was about and about Voss in search of something- anything to do. Still not having explored much, she didn't know her way around all too well, often taking wrong turns into dead end hallways or areas in which she hasn't any business being in. This place was much more relaxed as compared to her home, and she had had plenty of time to sleep, study, read, or otherwise. But as her boredom eventually sat in, her wandering mind had eventually led her to the courtyard.

The first thing that she was, of course, were the two who were sparring in the center. She watched for some moments, then looked to her hands. Hand to hand combat was not exactly her strongest suit. Oftentimes, she ran instead of engaging in physical altercation with people. That, or used the force to push attackers away from her. Her eyes went back up to the sparring duo, and she stood where she was, watching silently as she did most things.

She was quick, able to deflect his attacks easily. His eyes keying in on her movements. She kept a low center of gravity, stable and effective against straight on attacks. James would switch styles, to keep her guessing. As Sky trusted his left hook into the ground, he opened his palm and planted his hand on the ground. Pushing off with his feet, like a breakdancer, he brought his right foot up and over towards her head. Keeping his left leg back for balance.

A style known as capoeira, a rhythmic martial art that resembled a dance. It was fluid and unpredictable to most. James reeled back down and planted his right hand, spinning on it as an axis, kicking his feet out in a whirlwind type of attack.

It should serve to gauge her ability to adapt quickly to new opponents.

The change in James fighting style was fluent and quick, she did not expect the man to try that sort of acrobatic moves due to his more muscular appearance. Even though being slightly caught off guard that attack would not work on her, sparing with her much more gymnastic brother who often incorporated similar move she had a reasonable counter for the kick.

She leaned back slightly, allowing the the left to just pass her face bringing the left hand into contact with the foot managing to grab hold. Using the momentum of the swing she allowed her own body to spin around, bringing her left leg up, gaining momentum due to the angular velocity similar to a whip.

Putting some of her own force behind the kick she aimed at James back, specifically tiring to hit just under his right rib cage, such a blow would knock the wind out of him, but not do much damage. There was no grantee the move would work seeing at his was a much larger opponent then her brother, but still it allowed for a good test. If the move failed it was good to know so as to not try it again anytime soon.

James felt Sky grab his foot during his spin attack and use his momentum to propel herself into a counter kick aimed for his back. He contorted his torso upon his hand and as the kick would have made contact with his ribcage, he curled his midsection and caught the leg with his free hand. Tucking into Sky's leg, he rolled both hands into an ankle lock and twisted to pull her to the ground.

A grapple technique that was meant to put pressure on the tendons of the ankle to force a tap out. Applying just the right amount of torque would send splintering pain up the leg, if done so to cause real harm. He twisted just enough to let her know what he was doing.

To hopefully ensure his grip, he wrapped his free leg around the leg he'd grabbed, immobilizing the knee. Hopefully.

The way James contorted is body to gab her leg send a shock down her spin, the guy was not rusty at all, he was a fairly experience grapple fighter, and she had played right into his field of expertise. The feeling of pain running though her ankle was not enough to get a tap out but knowing such a hold could hurt way more meant that victory went to him, this time. She fell to the group but supported her fall, getting out of grapples was not something she was well versed in, being more akin to dealing with direct and indirect attacks.

Letting out a sight of defeat she conceded the match "you win", there wasn't really much to dwell on, just simply, more practice was needed, being a more balanced fighter no specific area was her playing field, that was a weakness other often exploited. Weather James did it on purpose or out of reaction was unknown, all that she could grasp was the man had a lot of practice and practical application in said fighting style. Staying still she waited for him to release her foot and perhaps start another bout, or maybe a session of medication was in order.

James looked to Sky, she gave in. The ankle lock worked, he rolled out of it and popped up to his feet. Turning towards the apprentice, he offered his hand to aid Sky to her feet. A smirk scrolled across his face, it wasn't a gloat but merely a "yay" smile.

"Well done Sky. You're a quick thinker. Able to adapt well and quickly. The key to any situation is to be able to adapt as quickly as possible. You have skill. Now, wanna try again or, shall we move on to something more advanced?"

James was indeed proud of her ability to hold up to him until the ankle lock. Grappling can be a game changer for most fights, being able to pin and control an opponent was a huge benefit in a fight.

Wiping the sweat off his brow, he took a deep breath, staring around to the others training. It felt good to be a part of something again.

Upon feeling James letting of the ankle grip she rolled over looking up, his face was plastered with a victorious smile which she could only cock an eyebrow at he offered a helping hand which she promptly took, easily being pulled up by the obviously stronger man. At being addressed as simply 'sky' her facial expression turn into a slight frown, sure her name wasn't the most convenient to pounce in galactic basic but shortlisting it to a name only used by close friends and family was not okay.

Doing so also ruined the meaning behind it, though she did not expect the man to already understand that, "I'd appreciate it if you didn't shorten my name for your own convince". She shock a bit of dust off her suit before pondering James question, "Another match would nice, though what did you mean by 'more advanced", was he talking about light-saber ad force practice or some other form of training.

James bowed his head in apology, "Forgive me, Apprentice Yumi. I did not mean to offend you."

James folded his hands, closed his eyes and before her eyes, Yumi would see James split into a dozen clones of himself.

Each speaking in random succession, the James clones replied, "This is what I mean by more advanced. Facing multiple opponents, that is the next step. Let's see how you can handle yourself."

All of the clones took a different stance. Between them all, his signature would be evenly divided, so as to mask which was the real one.

"Find the real me, and you win."

Viathae Qarmast

Mandalorian Exile Jedi of Clan Qarmast
It seems the two neutrals force users had noticed her and gave her looks. She was a Mandalorian, yes, but she was not like the other Mandalorians. Infact, she might be possibly the only Jedi that is a Mandalorian as well, at least in the courtyard. She glanced at the neutrals training. Now this was interesting. Some of these moves she had never seen... so it was a rather new, educational sight to her. She then caught her eye on [member="Raven Sorenova"], never seeing her before. She approached the young padawan who just was seemingly standing there. Maybe this could be her first chance of trying to pass down her knowledge to someone atleast? She never really trained anyone before, so this would be a learning experience for her.

"You there. I can help you with your training. Come, train with me. I could always use someone to help better my own understanding of others, in addition to teaching you what I know." she said. "Don't be afraid though, I won't go so rough on you. But I will expect you to act with honour and dignity. It is the Mandalorian way after all. Just as it is the Jedi way."

"It's okay you couldn't have known" In response she put her hands together and gave a slight bow of her own, apologizing his strength in combat, perhaps this man could become her teacher.

When James split into several version on himself it came as a bit of a shock, such a technique she had only read about once was noting short of inspiring, still she kept her cool, not hinting to any emotions. All of the clones looked the same and act the same, with only the stances different, she lowered herself into the defection/counter style used before scanning each opponent.

Not knowing anything about James trying to find the real one would be hard, "stay defensive don't attack, watch out for grapples, that might indicated the real one". Edging a bit closer she prepared for another onslaught of attack, she would probably lose, but would give him a run for his money.

As the clones circled Yumi, the firs to act would come from directly behind, jumping into the air and coming down with a heel slam aimed for her center.

As the James' closed the gap, the Real James was watching, seeing how she'd counter such an attack.

"Don't forget to breath. Never let your opponent see your moves coming. Be unexpected." The voice coming from everywhere and nowhere.

Twelve on one wasn't much of a fair fight, but James had been part of a gang attack a few times and wanted Yumi to be prepared.

An attack from behind was probably the most expected of all, being surrounded meant an attack from the blind spot had the best chance of hitting, upon feeling a tingle in the force she side stepped the leg swing, spinning around with a hand chop aimed at the neck of one of the James clones. Most fight that were 1 against more she had been equipped with her saber staff, as it was good for dealing with multiple opponent, in this case things were very different. Hearing James words of advice she kept a steady breath, the last part was unnecessary, though not unwelcome, any alive during this bout would be appropriated. As her hand went for its blow she kept an eye out of any other clones that tried to make a move.
