STANDARD FEATURES
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • Armour-plating and hull: For such a small ship, the armour plating is surprisingly thick, adding to the ship's passive defenses. In addition it has a phrik-reinforced spearhead for ramming through the hulls of other spaceships.
  • Defensive support systems: Molecular shielding, Diatium Capacitance Array, AR-0B Damage Reduction Armour Component, Short Range Missile Deactivation Transmitters.
  • Docking Anchor: Upon piercing the hull of an enemy vessel, the Ebon Shard may choose to lock itself in place for more aggressive boarding action. This action is done by the so-called Docking Anchor.
  • Mine-bay: At its rear, beneath the thrusters, the Ebon Shard is equipped to lay mines. This feature is present to strengthen the ship's capabilities as an ambusher.

STRENGTHS
  • Piercing: The Ebon Shard is designed for a very specific purpose; it uses its superior speed and defenses to pierce the enemy vessel like a syringe. When it does so, the Ebon Shard may choose to lock itself in place for aggressive boarding action.
  • Fast and Nimble: A lot of energy and engineering went into designing the Ebon Shard's thrusters and navigation, making it incredibly fast and nimble. Not only does this make the ship a delight to fly, it also lends to its defensive and offensive capabilities.
  • Powerful shields: The Ebon Shard is made with layers of defence, from the hull to the layered shielding, to the systems that siphon and recycle the energy of enemy weapons, this ship is a tough nut to crack.
WEAKNESSES
  • Weak at a distance: Having sacrificed its long ranged guns for defensive capabilities and speed, the Ebon Shard is weak at a distance. The ship will need to close the distance before it can use its ramming attack.
  • Small Fighter Space: Housing only two hangars of fighters and no single craft hangar leaves the Ebon Shard lacking in the department of fighter support. This can be an issue when facing many small crafts, like fighters and bombers.
  • Mutually Assured Destruction: When docked to another ship, the captain of the Ebon Shard runs the risk of blowing up herself and her enemy should one ship detonate. Boarding action is a gamble, and committing to it entirely is what some would consider insanity.
DESCRIPTION
The Sith Empire fell, but its materials did not crumble overnight. Nor did its designs or many of its most zealous warriors simply surrender or cease to be. While some decided to hold out with warlord states of their own, others did what many civilised beings do when society crumbles around them: Crime. When Joycelyn Zambrano, the last Empress, found herself fallen from imperial might, she took to a type of crime she had spent years hunting across the tingel arm; the Sith turned pirate.

The lifestyle of piracy could not sustain the large ships that her former armada adored, nor were the lumbering creations suited for ambushes. So, Joycelyn and a few ship-builders went through the designs of the Sith-Imperial armada and pillaged ship graveyards until they had what they needed to build something new. They took inspiration from a mostly redacted document concerning the Xiphos-class Super Star Dreadnaught. First they scaled it down to a smaller and more manageable size, then they added the docking anchor feature to allow for more aggressive boarding actions. This suited Joycelyn Zambrano well as she preferred ground combat.

Unlike its predecessor, the Xiphos, the Ebon Shard features some ranged weapons. This includes missiles, and laser cannons. It also features two hangars, one on either side houseone squadron of combat craft and one squadron of support craft. The rear of the Ebon Shard also features a mine-laying bay, which allows it to employ a greater range of ambushing tactics such as the Hapan Snare. However, like the Xiphos, the reinforced and tapered hull of the Ebon Shard is made to ram enemy vessels without sustaining considerable damage to their own hull, allowing it to pierce or even feasibly slice.

Featuring powerful engines and modular steering thrusters for rapid turns, the Ebon Shard is a very fast and nimble ship in lesser than light speeds. This aids the ship’s defensive capabilities by avoiding fire, and is crucial to its ramming attack. A typical tactic would be to ambush ships coming out of hyperspace by closing the distance and ramming them. The ship would then lock in place while the raiding party boards through the pierced hull. Meanwhile, the fighter contingent will try to keep the Ebon Shard clear of small crafts.

The Ebon Shard features plentiful cargo space and living quarters to support extended stays in the void. While much of the ship is made in the Sith-Imperial design, the living quarters are made after Vahla specifications. The Vahla are a people of perpetual travel, who live on board their vessels and drift through space. As such, their vessels feature comfortable living quarters, while making good use of what limited space they have. While life on board a pirate ship is never a luxury, the Ebon Shard can offer some comfort without sacrificing too much of its interior space.
