Chaos echoed through the stone and wood home.
Specifically, the kitchen.
The family was gathering to meet Balun’s student, an idea brought up by his father in some meeting with his brother some time ago. Makai didn’t know the details, just that his home had been chosen as the meeting point. The half-Galan was more surprised this was actually occurring and this student was real. He and Persephone originally thought Balun had made up the entire student story.
Still could have. Maybe he bribed some poor unexpecting kid to come along.
The whistle of the tea kettle brought him out of those thoughts. His wife, now pregnant with their second, was going through the same nausea as before. Pouring hot water into a large thermos and adding tea bags, he passed the task of delivery off to Persephone. Home from university, the teenager inspected the thermos before disappearing, as if he did it wrong.
Gaze flicked to the kitchen island. He had put his father and both kids to work assisting with meal prep. All three were well used to the routine.
“Papa, does this mean I have to go to my teacher’s house for dinner?”
Chuckling, Makai shook his head.
“No. This is different, how Jedi do things. Although we could have your teacher over, it may be seen as favoritism.”
“Oh. Good.” Little tongue stuck out as Phoebe went back to her task of cutting vegetables with her child-safe knife, content in the answer.
