OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Kal of Masque
  • Affiliation: Kal of Masque
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
    • Flawed Chronoscopes are Open-Market.
  • Model: Chronoscope
  • Modularity: Everything but the lens can be replaced. Lenses come in different sizes/colours.
  • Production: Semi-Unique | Limited (Flawed Chronoscopes)
  • Material: Astracite Lens
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Chronoscopes are able to watch the past, but unlike the obscure technique known as Flow-Walking they cannot affect it. As such, they are far safer to use. No one has ever accidentally prevented their own birth while observing the past. Chronoscopes may struggle to display the past of places/objects that have been heavily altered in some way - carefully preserved ruins are ideal for looking far back. Chronoscopes are only able to provide visual information on their own, but Force Users may be able to gain other sensations with skilful use.
    • Some Chronoscopes have analogue or digital controls while others can only be used by Force Users.
Flawed Chronoscopes are made from lenses that fail to meet the rigorous standards of their creator. They still retain the properties noted in this submission, but 'Muddled Past' becomes a much greater problem - the worst of them struggle to look back more than a few hours.
STRENGTHS
  • Historian's Delight: Chronoscopes can peel back the veil of time, viewing events after they have occurred.
WEAKNESSES
  • Wingless Butterfly: Chronoscopes in no way shape or form affect the past. No butterfly effect, no problem.
  • Muddled Past: Chronoscopes struggle to display the past of places/objects that have been heavily altered.
DESCRIPTION
The secrets of the past had always fascinated the Shadow known as Kal. History books and artefacts were studied with equal fervour, the shades of the long-since dead were extensively interviewed, and yet his curiosity was never sated. So much remained lost to history.

Not one to give up easily, he set about finding a solution. A solution derived from the Force, for the great cosmic network that connected all that was, is, and will be surely retained a perfect snapshot of events that had already occurred. Alas, if such a thing exists, Kal fid did not find it. A workaround of sorts was found, however. A carefully cut and alchemically altered lens formed from the Force-reactive crystal known as Astracite.

If made just right, such lenses could be used to observe the distant past, temporarily satisfying their creator's insatiable curiosity and filling in some of history's blank pages. Even slight flaws compromise this function, but these flawed chronoscopes have their use in forensics and the like.
