TRAITS & FLAWS

  • Prodigal Intellect: Zelannia is extraordinarily intelligent and driven to excel, which has allowed her to earn a downright astonishing set of credentials, despite her relative youth. Even when her training falls short she can usually improvise a solution with an acceptable fatality rate.
  • Defunct Asset: Zelannia has the training - and paranoia - of someone raised for the life of a spy. The conviction has faded, however.
  • Listener Syndrome: Zelannia has developed a rare condition involving uncontrollable Force Empathy. Instead of making her care about her fellow sentients, it has further lowered her opinion of 'the dim-witted apes' and made her shun crowds like the plague.
CONNECTIONS
  • Was I supposed to be making friends?
POSSESSIONS
  • A basement apartment whose guest room and living room have been converted into a laboratory-cum-workshop.
  • A collection of mementos from former subjects; partially composed of illegally-retained body parts, including a still-beating heart.
  • A trio of exotic snakes that are both venomous and poisonous, 'but make for great company due to their unfeeling nature'.
  • A Hutt Cartel Kidnap Jabber and a PIKI Ionised Stun Pistol. She's more likely to be carrying the former when going about her business.
  • A handful of fraudulent IDs; humanoid women from ~1.65 to 1.75 metres in height with a slim build. Shapeshifting is useful.
BIOGRAPHY
Zelannia Arcrin has lived a complicated life. Her youth was marked by near-impossible expectations and constant pressure to improve, from tutors in kindergarten to her stay in a Coruscanti academy that catered primarily to the offspring of Arkanian expats. Expats who expected nothing short of perfection from their young.

Unlike most overly demanding parents, Zel's had a cause - once she was old enough to lie and be believed, she was told the truth. They were deep-cover operatives loyal to the Sith and so would she be. She would continue to excel and climb the social ladder until she became useful to their masters. The head of a research bureau, perhaps, or even the Chancellor's personal physician.

She bought into it, of course. She had been raised to make connections, not friends, and desperately craved purpose.

After surging through the education system at a speed that alienated her from the ignorant apes, she earned a medical degree before she was old enough to legally practice medicine. Instead of slowing down, she began studying bioengineering at a prestigious Arkanian institution. While there, she began to think about her life and her purpose and eventually came to a realisation.

There was likely no grand design. No puppetmaster standing by to facilitate her destiny. The Sith Empire she supposedly served had crumbled years prior and while the Sith themselves remained, the ones responsible for her parents' assignment likely died with the Empire. In the end, the beings she had been raised to revere had died like anyone else. Frightened. Alone.

Suddenly, her future seemed much more uncertain. For the first time in years, she didn't know what to do.

This uncertainty eventually lead her to seek out a certain treatment. Perhaps by usurping the power of the beings she had once worshipped, she would find a new purpose. In her case, the treatment worked as intended, though not without symptoms. Suddenly she could feel the Force, could experience an entirely new aspect of reality - but she could also feel the cloying thoughts and feelings of her lessers. Their fear, lust, anxiety, and anger. Their imbecilic guesswork and half-assed attempts at being clever.

It was distracting, appalling, suffocating. If nothing else, she had a clear goal - to learn how to tune out the voices.
TL;DR: Spy parents, ridiculously high expectations. Childhood prodigy - great grades, no friends. Early medical degree followed by bioengineering studies and the realisation that her/her parents' life purpose was a lie. Became Force Sensitive after an esoteric treatment, but now she hears the thoughts and feelings of the idiots that surround her - even when they don't vocalise them. It's kind of gross how dumb they are.
