Codex Q&A

If you are wanting to create a city, not a big one or anything, and you want it to have a spaceport, do you need a separate location submission for the spaceport? It's not really going to be used for anything aside from giving people a reason to fly to the city.

[member="Asteria Starcatcher"] you can do both at the same time but it is generally recommended to do the planet first and then the species. As changes to the planet can alter the species history

So I was thinking of making a species based on the Atlantians from DC comics, because I love Aquaman and YES I LIKE AQUAMAN! but I went into the approved species and saw someone already basically did mer people. However when I was browing through others I saw that some of the species were basically the same. I swear I saw like three different types of space elves lol. Anyways I wanted to know if it really matters or if it's just some sort of oversight? Or maybe it's just me, idk. I only browed really so I might have missed something.

No you are not mistaken there really are several types of space elves. The galaxy is obsessed with space elves, eventually we will all be space elves.

That being said, when it comes to making a species make what you would like to make and however you wish to. THe codex judges will see to it and balance it out for fun on the board. Try to make them more detailed then the ones that are in the approved section if you can.

My space elves (the Eldorai) are the best space elves. Totally objective.

Basically, only create a species if you think you can make an interesting twist on the concept. There's no point making something if it's just a cookie-cutter clone, but if you can do something unique with the concept, go ahead!

The CJs will tell you if it's too similar.

[member="Valiens Nantaris"] Yeah I understand. Idk now. I mean, at this point, I might as well just use the Altanitan picture but say it's a human. I mean they basically look like them anyway lol.

Regarding the upcoming event, if I make a planet in Vong space would I be allowed to make and use a character from that planet in the meanwhile, or should I wait for the event to fire off and whatnot before bringing the character into play.

[member="Felix Dunst"] if you make a planet in the vong galaxy you would need to make a character sub for said species. Explaining how they survived as a species the genocide the Vong did across their own galaxy before starting the long and dangerous journey to our own.

That would be a given, of course. I plan on submitting as much as possible in regards to this whole thing, both to give it sufficient fluff to feel like a serious work instead of a one-time off thing never to be mentioned again, as well as to try and earn myself some leeway when it comes to the judging process if my work is good enough.

While on this particular topic, is there any preferred order in which to submit everything (Planet, Race, Fauna, Wildlife, Technology, etc) so that I can work on it in batches and release as it is finished, or would it be preferable that I hold out on it and release everything at once? If the latter, would it be alright for me to put what I have finished in blogs and ask for a quick glance from the judges / specialists in each respective department to make sure everything is in order?

Best way is planet - species - technology. As the judging process might see changes to the planet that could alter the species and technology. An example would be a world you want to have a restricted material on, you make technology and species culture based around that material (say somehow beskar appeared) if the judge or admin wishes the material removed then you have to go back through and do larger rewrites or have your submission on hold while judges consult each other.

However this is my process and opinion and does not reflect the entire codex staff

So, I currently have command of, as one of the members of the high commands of the Shadow Dynasty (Shadow Empire reincarnate), the planet of Belkadan. There isn't much information on that page about it, other than its toxic atmosphere as well as some historical background and current (or perhaps previous?) Vong population.

I want to flesh out the world more than that, so. How do I do so? Would I submit a new Planetary Submission and modify it along the way, as the planet is "built" or do I just create a post somewhere in the forums about the world, describing and such?

Soo.. I looked at my species page(Zorren), and the edits I placed in it... were less than pretty to put it mildly. Would it be possible for me to do a wording and aesthetic overhaul then submit that new thing to the judges for them to replace the current submission. Of course, this would be done without changing the things in the submission. I just want it to look better than it does.

I'm the type of person who goes to moderators for anything. Just to be safe I pre-check before pre-checking before actually submitting xD

Is it possible for judges to actually help create designs for planets and species and stuff like looking over concepts and rough drafts of submissions before the submissions actually being posted? I have several categories for an upcoming planet, species, etc. that I'm working on and I don't want to trip over one thing and get the entire operation messed up, lol!

Thank you!
~ Elvira.

You can ask for advice, but it doesn't count as gospel when it comes to be judged. The CJ giving advice cannot be the one to judge your planet either.

So yes, you can get advice and help, but it doesn't mean it'll be automatically accepted.
