It was supposed to be a typical run.
Easy peasy blue milk run with supplies along the border worlds. Especially down the Hyperlanes. Nothing major. He wasn't even hauling anything he figured was worth much. Then again. Medical supplies and nutrient goods were always a hot commodity it seemed when you operated outside the Law. Probably what had made his ship especially appealing.
His drop from Hyperspace greeted by a small gathering of vessels that had given him little more than the politeness of a message to power down and surrender before they tore up his hull.
Making sure to take a good look at each vessel before following their instructions.
Taking a good deal of self control in the entire time they had him at gun point to not start a fight with the nearest in arms reach. Instead letting them pilfer through the store rooms and every nook, cranny, or hollow they believed held storage space in the ship. Once they were satisfied that they'd gotten what they'd wanted transfered over, they had attempted to seize the ship after sizing it up.
The speed he'd grabbed his pistol from the pilots seat catching the first off guard that had spun around to shoot him. Almost a painful thing for Eli really. He'd been a friendly sort.
But not friendly enough as Eli held the rodians body close to him as a shield against the next few Blaster shots. The thugs retreating across the boarding tube when it was clear their human captive was more tenacious than presented. Appearing to grow larger than originally sized up as the firefight went on. Hounding them back as the docking tube retracted and nearly ripped the side free from its mount.
The startup for the reactor was too slow as their vessel rounded and got clear. Letting loose with enough weapons to leave him with a third of his engines, and gaping holes in the hull as the cabin door sealed.
Enough power flowing to get off a distress signal with his coordinates as three vessels tried to wear down his shields. The nose of the Long Haul pressed towards the planet below before the single engine flared to life. The others sparking and glowing red hot as warnings blared in the cabin. A silent prayer to the stars to get him to ground at the very least as the whole vessel began to shake and shudder at atmospheric entry.
The attacking ships peeling away as it became more clear that the Long Haul wasn't making it out of the steep dive.
His elbows popped and groaned as he tried pulling back the controls, angling the belly against the trees that seemed all too eager to welcome him. A section of the hull pulled itself free. Along with an engine assembly as the air made the sealed door vibrate and howl. The myriad of trees and dark space beneath them filling his view as he tensed before the ship disappeared beneath the canopy.
He didn't know how long it had been.
Waking to find heat covering his face. Blinking only to wince at the sharp sting the swamped his right side. A hand dabbing gently before finding crimson there. A deep breath in as he tried to orient himself. His legs like jello after a hard day on the freight docks. Trying to straighten up and finding that staying hunched over brought less pain. Had he landed? Or did someone throw him out the airlock?
"Ho-chit." His bearings slow to return as he stumbled across a seat, the dancing orange and yellow lights slowly forming into something familiar.
The controls of the ship scorched and burning now as the remaining engines either burned with uncontrolled fuel or simply from heat. Portions of the hull ripped back as though a great beast had been searching for its last morsels. The sound of the jungle around the ship silent as he fumbled around, the door still sealed tight to the exit.
