SUMMARY
BB-4001A was a chore bot constructed by Archangel Research at its Denon facility in response to an order from an elder care facility located on the health resort world of Elshandru Pica. This BB unit was one of three in the original order, all with baseline human simulacrums that did not vary from the stock Archangel catalog. For twenty years, this BB unit fulfilled its original function -- providing interaction with the patients while tending to the maintenance and upkeep of the facility. However, the Bryn'adul aggression in the Outer Rim drove many away from the world once popular for its supposed health benefits, leading to the elder care facility declaring bankruptcy. This BB unit, along with its siblings, were auctioned off to cover the facility's debts.
BB-4001A wound up in the possession of a parts dealer, who first used the droid to break down other droids for parts and equipment to be sold or recycled to meet market demand. This continued until 866 ABY, when the BB unit was stripped for parts.
The partially disassembled chassis was dumped on Sevarcos, where it wasted away under the sun, spice, and sand until it was discovered almost a decade later by salvagers scouting the desert for junk. Traded across several hands, the skeletal remains of the human replica droid eventually wound up in the possession of an elderly tinkerer named Bartam Kale, who served as a handyman and servant to one of Sevarcos' resident Spice Lords. Kale began to work on the doll-like droid as a hobby, cobbling it back together using a mismatch of recycled components from the available junk. As he didn't have enough of a single tone of synthflesh, Kale stitched together a covering from several pieces which led to the BB unit's patchwork appearance.
Kale managed to reassemble the processor cores and reconnect the power supply, but was unsuccessful in activating the Archangel droid despite repeated efforts. The doll-like droid sat in one corner of the old man's workshop, gathering spice dust and almost forgotten until the Spice Lord commissioned a unique repair from the tinkerer. A lightsaber that, similar to the condition of the droid, appeared to be in functional order but would not activate. Finding himself similarly frustrated, Kale had the idea to try inserting the heart of the lightsaber into the body of the droid. To his surprise, the BB unit activated.
Not just activated, but awakened. The BB unit found itself connected to the world around it, and the people around it, in mysterious ways that defied either logic or function.
