An Amalgam of Parts (Remnant Dominion of Kad V)

Rell was out of her element here. She usually tried to avoid being directly in the battlefield. her preferred place was on the edges of it, picking off targets as needed. But this was hardly a typical situation, and as such, she was more then happy to allow those more experienced then her in this sort of situation take the lead. She nodded and put her sniper on her back. She wasn't going to be able to fire it accurately here. She pulled out her backup blaster.

"Lead on!" She yelled.

She hadn't.

Alva stared up at the vent up ahead the howl's echo had come from. Whatever had made the noise was not as close by as she had once assumed it was. Its position was unknown, what sort of beast it was also was unknown, its threat level, who was in the most danger. . . all unknown. It made the second princess of Crina scowl beneath her helmet as she clenched her fists hating this little story out of some horror novelists science fiction. It would be truly terrifying if her name was Ripley one could suppose, but seeing as this wasn't the Nostromo there was a low chance of that. All jokes aside, Alva continued leading her unit forward through the station's corridors, wondering of where the creature making the horrendous noises was lurking, or if it was even alone.

"This is Lt. Colonel Calvarona to all units aboard the station. If you can hear this communication please be cautious, there appears to be something inhuman on this derelict and it may be dangerous." Sighing, Alva hoped the station's defenses themselves would take care of the threat before any harm came to those who had wandered into this lair. After all, they had certainly done a fine enough job of slowing down her group immensely and even succeeding in sending two of her soldiers back to the hanger after taking a shot and needing to be supported back to safety.

However, once her group came out of the corridor into a much more open room that had a damaged door barely standing the young Crinan woman couldn't help but take back her complaints. The room was a mess, there were a few dead bodies strewn about the area, several torn in pieces, none at all pleasant to look at, but all the same she was smiling. It was the main lab after all, the objective they were truly searching for. With this they could maybe get an idea of what was going on out here, the reason they had sent their lost ship for in the first place. Some of the consoles even seemed intact. It likely would be difficult to have their technician slice in to get the data, it would have been easier if a scientist or researcher was around who could answer their questions or be coerced into giving them access, but it was a start. "Keep formation and check the area. Look for survivors and get someone opening up those terminals, whatever it was going on here or whatever data the have, we want it."

RC's commlink crackled and he paused, holding up a fist. The squadron stopped dead, taking a defensive position in the hall all weapons pointed outwards.

"I copy that ma'am. This RC 212, Stormcommando Detachment. What's your location?"

The best defense was a solid offence and RC knew that they all had a better chance if they fought side by side, despite stormcommandos classified status. Still it couldn't hurt.

Max awoke to the sounds of distant blaster fire and a distinct smell of burning ozone. His head swam as he shifted slightly and a sharp pain shot itself up his leg.

"Fantastic." The tech mumbled as he moved painfully to sit upright in his seat. As his vision settled he realized that the gunship himself and his team had been traveling in was split into at least two pieces, with him only knowing where one was. Electric arcs flickered from now exposed wires and a taste of iron accompanied the stench of blood. A quick look around confirmed the officer's fear.

"Sound off." Max raggedly spoke over the squad coms.

Frack. After a moment of fear, a quick scan of the team's life signs confirmed it further.

Max clenched his fist and slammed it into the durasteel siding before giving out a pained shout.

He undid his safety belt as he fought the urge to break down. The memory of his techs was almost enough to cause him to break into sobs.

No.

Move.

The tech pulled himself up and began searching through one of his dead soldier's medical kits as quickly as he could, the sense of urgency lent him a focus to ignore the horrifying reality around him and some adrenaline to do what needed to be done.

"Activate the beacon."

The mumble came through as Max tied a makeshift splint to his armored leg.

He did.

"Arm yourself." Came another mumble as the beacon shown a small blinking blue light and a growl could be heard somewhere outside the vessel. A spike of fear sent Max climbing further up the wreckage toward the cockpit. It only looked about ten feet away but the climb felt infinitely long as the man struggled against gravity and his own injuries. Whatever thoughts he had of rescue vanished as he lost himself in the task of climbing, the sound of a sickening wet munch hard on his heels.

Something was feasting on the dead.

Rell had joined up with the main task force, thanks to the escort one of the troopers had sent over. She was grateful for the assistance, but there was no time to thank them in person. She pulled back out her rifle and stood in the back of the group, firing. Round after round flew across the battlefield as she fired on the things attacking them. But the shots only sometimes caused them to fall, and even then, there was no guarantee that they would remain down. The things were proving most difficult to kill. Then she heard a sound going off from her pocket. She risked taking a moment to pull out the datapad out and see what it was. She saw that it had just detected a beacon going off nearby. From what she could see, it was going off from inside the ship. A survivor. She reached for her comms again.

"Ground team, I have a distress beacon going off inside the ship. Someone in there is still breathing for the moment. Transmitting location now." She pressed a few buttons to send the location before picking back up the rifle and resuming fire.

~"This LT Strain to Air support, support by fire left of my position, marking with Infra-red strobe!"~

I checked my scopes and located the infra red strobe. “Delta Two it appears we have a marked area of suppression, prepare another concussion missile and lay down a field of fire!” I rotated by 63 degrees on the axis. The heavy winds howled against the back wash of the sentinel’s screaming ion engines as the Cradle struggled to remain stable.

Roger that Delta One, bringin the noise!”

A burst of laser fire from the shuttles blaster cannons laid down a thorughgly heavy field of fire. The xenos beasts reacted in supreme coordination and pulled back away from the wall of laser fire. Delta two manually lined up the shot so the area of effect would engulf four of the beasts. The missile launched, its fuel ignition joined the cacophony of the battle that now raged bellow.
The beasts did not appear to react the same as they did to the laser fire. In fact Delta Two’s shots obliterated the intended targets. I gave a wicked grin as the fight seemed to be in our favor at the moment. More comms traffic sputtered over the radio.

~"Ground team, I have a distress beacon going off inside the ship. Someone in there is still breathing for the moment. Transmitting location now."~

Roger that, we have the beacon, all ground teams we have survivors! Extract them ASAP, I say again Extract them ASAP. We don’t know how many more of these creatures are out there nor do we have any intelligence on what else is out there! Ground teams I need a secure landing zone here unless you bucket heads want to stay on this muck hole!”

((OOC: Alright lets get those survivors out of the ship, dust off and call the ground operations a victory for now. Caaithiel is MIA at the moment and that is dependent on the writer to come back and see about finishing off that aspect. For now though we don’t know what happened with her and with this storm going on we’ll need to pull back! Perhaps a story for a later date will involve Caaithiel))

Max slowly and painfully hauled himself into the cockpit where the gunship's two dead pilots sat, frozen in their last moment. Their expression were blank and their eyes were wide. One had been impaled by a piece of debris that had shattered the entire left side of his flight helmet slightly above the eye. The second had her neck slouched at an unnatural angle. Max fought a growing sense of revulsion and fear as he carefully positioned himself as far from the broken in door as he could.

He unholstered the first pilot's blaster pistol as he hit the ship's general coms, which he prayed were still functioning. He spoke relatively quietly as the thing below continued it's feast.

"This is Captain Vinticus, ship down, beacon on. There's something hostile alive here. Help."

"I copy that ma'am. This RC 212, Stormcommando Detachment. What's your location?"

Alva blinked for a moment as life sprung to the inter-squad communications. At least someone else was still there. Taking a moment away from contributing to the searching of the area, Alva opened up the frequency to respond to the soldier on the line. "I currently have my unit holding position in what looks to be the main research facility. It has branching rooms and a central office and testing chamber my troops are combing over for loose data and potential survivors. . . . there appears to be something dangerous on this station aside from the automated defenses and hostile survivors if there are any. We heard a bestial howl before but it came through the vents so we don't know where the sound carried over from. Keep on your toes if you're heading this way down a different path than our group took. Watch for any terminals, server rooms, or databanks in passing as well. We're here to collect as much data as we can after all."

Ending her side of the channel Crina's second princess turned back to watch her Crinan/Imperial unit check overturned desks and carefully move about checking every body they could find for any signs of life. Others were cautiously staying on watch keeping a lookout for anything in the branching research areas that might be hiding a quiet threat. However, what Alva found most important was that her squads technicians were already moving to the terminals, both personal on the desk and floor as well as those tied to the station itself connected to the equipment in the facility. Hopefully they would be getting something important from this trip.

[member="RC 212 "] [member="TK-4261 Strain"] [member="Mason Deschart"] [member="Kara Runo"] [member="Killian Holmes"] [member="Waahr"] [member="Utena Calvarona"] [member="Sala'dine"] [member="Ayumi Pallopides"] [member="Sai Fel"] [member="Ikki Ike"] [member="Alister Krandor"] [member="Caius Flavian"] [member="Caaithiel Deschart"] [member="Serco Savar"] [member="Davin"] [member="Agatha Nester"] [member="Zacess"] [member="Garen Ruca"] [member="Ater Notechis"] [member="Bottlecap"] [member="Awn'rell'reemma"] [member="Maximilian Vinticus"]

Everything appeared to be tense and quiet for a while as the unit under Alva's command swept the research areas looking for anything useful, or anyone alive. However, they didn't seem to be finding much. A few minutes were spent before an all clear signal rang around the group. No one was alive, all the researchers that had been in the area were dead, their corpses mauled and mutilated by something . . . . rather beastly. It showed in the bearing of the soldiers, both Crinan and Imperial, they were nervous about whatever it was on this station that had killed these people. Something they hadn't run into yet, but perhaps the same thing they had heard howling earlier. Maybe there was more than one, maybe it was killing other survivors, or other squads, while they were busy here. No one knew anything really, and that was what was the most terrifying of all.

At least the voice of the technicians engaged in slicing into the terminals and consoles around the lab eased everyone's troubles a little, though Alva made sure to check to make sure the lookouts she posted weren't getting distracted by the updates being spoken aloud. Still, it was useful for everyone's nerves to be settled. So far they were having little complications. Oh there were certainly protocols and firewalls in their way, good ones for secret research, but at the same time they didn't have active enemies trying to lock them out of the systems, and this place's location alone was a security in itself, it wasn't like they were in the Jedi Temple or the Naval HQ of a government faction. They were making progress, and whatever secrets were indeed held within the computers would soon be available to them.

Rell knew that she could waste no time securing the survivors, not knowing their current condition. She ran over to a squad of troopers and spoke quickly to the one in charge of the squad.

"I need a squad to help secure the survivors, you're with me! Let the rest provide the covering fire!"

The trooper briskly saluted to her.

"Yes, sir!"

Rell lead her newly recruited squad into the ship. The dark halls provided a suitably dark atmosphere for the situation as the troopers moved forward, guns up and at the ready. Rell guided them in the direction of the signal. They rounded a corner, and suddenly one of the beasts leaped onto a troopers face.

"Contact!"

The trooper fell to the ground as the beast stuck at his helmet, trying to break through.

"Get it off me!" He yelled, panicking as the rest aimed their rifles quickly at the thing.

"Fire!" Rell yelled, wanting to kill the thing quickly before the trooper was killed. The troops fired on the thing, their combined firepower taking it down before it could reach another. But the trooper that had been attacked had been killed.

"We'll have to leave the body. No way we're gonna be able to transport both him and the injured survivors."

The troopers, unhappy with this but understanding why, nodded. Rell looked back at her holopad.

"Signals comming from that room." She said, pointing at a bunkroom. She walked over to the door. "Sealed. Blast. And no power to open it.

"Sir, we have demolitions. More then enough to down the door."

"Controlled explosion, if you will. We don't need to kill who we are here to save." Rell banged loudly on the door. "If anyone in there is still alive, you need to move away from the door now! It's coming down, and coming down hard!" She turned to the rest of the troopers. "Cover us, the explosion may attract more."

"Yes, sir!" The demo man, eager to be out of the ship, quickly set up the bombs and gave a thumbs up to Rell.

"Ok, explosives are set, get back!" She yelled both at the troopers and the other room.

"3....2....1...Breach!" She yelled as the explosives went off and blew the door down.

Ikki kept moving, she had been on the ground and working to clear the way for the third princess as the little maid stood there for a bit smiling a little at the other people who went past her. Their guns making more noise then her wires and she clasped her hands together going into a room as she stood there for a moment. "Thank you for surrendering." The small group of soldiers left standing among the parts of his comrades was more then enough for her as he starred at her. She bowed her head with her small frame enfolding to provide less of a target to others who might be coming around.

I really was not a fan of ground operations or hell just participating in the affairs of infantry. I admired the storm troopers and their rigorous dedication to the cause. I preferred the bridge of a star ship than trekking around in the armor of a storm trooper. Still my duty called for me to take up the charge. I could not stand by and order the brave men and women to board an enemy vessel without me being there myself. A flight of sentinel class assault shuttles had launched from The Resolute Dreamer.

My helmet was firmly fitted and the compression seals clasped firmly. I stood in the center aisle holding onto a hand rail above my head. The station had no automated defenses that we knew of so the flight was relatively calm. My gaze moved slowly over the storm troopers in the platoon. Several male and females of different species broke up the pattern of human storm troopers. There was nothing wrong with it in my eyes. They had chosen to give their lives over to a greater cause for that my usual contempt for the xenos faltered under the weight of such dedication and honor.

Zero Gravity Marines, every one of these storm troopers were well versed in fighting in the environment of weightlessness. Capable of performing boarding actions like no other force in the galaxy save the mandalorians. My heart swelled with pride. My own armor fitted specifically for naval actions was painted in the dull grey of the naval officer uniform. Distinguishing me from the rest of the troops.
Our shuttle had reached the station. The platoon’s lieutenant began to brief us, the storm trooper held up a handheld holoprojector and displayed the station. “Right boys and girls, we will be breaking through an access maintenance hatch located here near what appears to be the living quarters of the ship. Our lost contact with the boarding parties places a storm commando unit here along with the princesses located here and here. Our objective is to enter through this area and move to the station control center here. The other platoons will be breaking in at several other points to find and support the boarding teams already on board. Commander any input” nearly forty pair of eyes turned to me. I took a breath.

Remember this station was identified as a civilian station that means if we find anyone on board who is not imperial we are to take into custody. That is all
Thank you Sir! Right! Now you Void Divers lets kick off into hell!” The Lt. raised his pistol in the air.
I pulled my vibroblade from the sheath and held it up! “For the Imperial Crown, for the Empire!”
FOR THE EMPIRE!”

The shuttle magnetically locked onto the stations outer surface. The boarding ramp opened up. We were already in a decompressed cabin so the silence of space was the only thing to fill our ears. I activated the mag boots and began the slow space walk out onto the stations surface. I looked up to the stars of the galaxy above. It was absolutely beautiful. Without a sound we trekked over to the hatch. Basic slicing skills were required part of the training a Zero G Marine received. A moment passed and the hatch was ours.
I took one last look at the space around us. I could see the planet looming nearby a beautiful storm the size of a continent seemed to be taking up most of the atmosphere. I could only wonder how the ground operations were going. I glanced to the fleet sitting in orbit around the station. Now came the weird part. I had only done this a few times during decompression drills on board ships but going from absolutel space to a gravity plane was still a gut wrenching experience. A xenos trooper maneuvered herself elegantly to enter the hatch side ways. I watched as she passed through the hatch and then fell to the side. It didn’t even phase her, her blaster was still up and at the ready. It was my turn and I followed her example. I slipped through the hatch and gravity took hold dropping me onto the hard surface of the station. We were in.

After a few minutes of getting ourselves onto through several more hatches our platoon broke into squads. With precision and discipline unmatched the storm troopers cleared room to room as we made our way through the living quarters. “We’ve got bodies.” We came across what looked like a massacre. Dozens of body parts strewn about. Claw marks against the walls and bulkheads. “Stay wary” the Lt. spoke.
I keyed my communications vox and spoke “This is Lt. Commander Caius Flavian I’ve arrived on board with an additional support. We have encountered what appears to be a slaughter, multiple dismembered bodies, be advised this does not appear to be the result of blaster fire or melee weaponry and is beast like in nature. Will any other boarding parties please respond?"

Close your eyes, kids. This one is going to get a little rough.

Bottlecap and his three mates were continuing through the jungle of Kad V, progressing slowly but honestly. They would pause for about ten seconds every ten minutes to launch a flare above the treetops, signifying that, yes, they were still alive and on the move for the downed craft.

Not fifty meters from the crash site, the unmistakable pop of a detonator followed by the whistles of blaster fire erupted. The four Marines began to hasten themselves and relaxed their attention to what lay behind them. It was time for a firefight, apparently. Guns at the ready--for they were never unready--the squad of troopers brushed through the vines and quashed the greenery that lay underneath their feet with little regard for the volume of their steps. They needed to help whoever was around the ship.

As the soldiers came to the razed ground where the lost starcraft had plowed into the earth, a sniggering little bird swooped down in front of the men before jetting into the sky, obviously alarmed by them--or maybe by the horrid creature with three arms and no head that snatched at one of his mats. "Natives! Blast them!" Rasmus ordered, dogmatically and plastic-ly Imperial by nature. The bizarre, scraggly creature began to excrete some sort of acid at its prey, eating into the man's shin guards. Another arm grabbed at the Marine's shoulder.

Bottlecap never sets for stun. Marines never set for stun. They just incinerate little heaps of vile nature and hail the Empire. As the torrent of blaster fire emitted from their weapons and caught the main segment of this filthy being, flames ignited from the insides and expanded as organs flared and then ruptured.

Holy frak, that is disgusting. This is why people need Empires.

Unconcerned and not really aware with whatever was happening on the groundside operation, Alva kept her attention on the progress of her unit with the task of slicing into the consoles within the research compartment. However, when a communication came through from Lieutenant Commander Flavian, she found herself rather interested since she had thought her fellow officer was sticking on board the ships. She hadn't thought he was the type to get himself involved in a combat situation boot side personally. At least, she wasn't quite sure if he was equipped for it, but then again she knew very little about him outside of all the meetings for project developments and organizational planning.

"This is Alva Calvarona. Surprised to hear you come check up on me Lieutenant Commander. My unit is doing fine here. We've reached the research labs and are currently hacking our way into their security terminals to uncover whatever secrets they've been hiding up here. We had two casualties getting here, but just wounded who returned to our shuttles. We had a close encounter with that beast you're speaking of I think. We heard screams earlier and a howl later on, and I'm looking at a lot of corpses that got messed up by whatever it was. Or whatever they were maybe even. I know a few other squads were deployed but no status reports have been sent in. Ladies Fel and Pallopides are together in a unit as well you'll want to check in with them. I'll give you an update on my own status when we get somewhere." Which probably wouldn't be long. Because as she spoke it seemed like the technicians were getting through the basic firewalls. They'd likely have the unprotected files soon, and anything encrypted would follow soon after.

Max gave a sigh of relief when he heard the sound of other Imperials below. They announced their intentions and he heard the strange creature give a violent growl. Max braced himself against the body of one of the pilots only a moment before the explosive blew open a hole and rocked the entirety of the wreckage. Blaster bolts could be heard thundering below as the troopers took out the thing.

"UP HERE!" Max managed to shout after the firing had ceased.

Rell moved into the room while the rest of the troopers stood outside to guard the area. She took one look at the man and looked back over to the group.

"I need a medic over here!"

She looked back at the man and spoke as the medic started field treatment

"Ok, we're going to do what we can for you, but we're in sort of a tight spot here. You've seen the natives, no doubt. Can you move? And do you know if anyone else is alive on this ship?"

Ayumi was there, her squad being careful and slinking around as they worked to gather data, find whatever they could then disappear before the enemy got to them. Her eyes flicking back and forth as she gave a nod of her head and spoke. "Alva we have some data and information sending it to you and the ship."

Alva was soon tapping her foot impatiently as she awaited the technicians at the terminal to respond with the news they had completed their work. Instead she was rewarded with silence as she stood about after replying to the Lieutenant Commander's query. At least until a new communication made its way to her, this time from the Lady Ayumi Pallopides. Last she checked both she and Lady Sai Fel had been traveling toegther aboard the station under Imperial Escort, including crack storm commandos. They had taken a different corridor from the hanger than her own unit. "Lady Pallopides where is your unit at? Right now mine is in the central research labs it seems. If you have a clear shot try and steer towards the personnel compartments where the living quarters are it. They might have their personal notes there. We haven't encountered any survivors on our end, but we did hear rather monstrous howls earlier. There may be a creature aboard that is to be considered dangerous. Have you run into anything like that?"

A call from the technicians caught the second princess's attention. Moving to their side at the consoles Alva stared at what they were pointing at. They had fully downloaded the data on all the files. Unprotected and encrypted alike. They were now making a copy, which would take much less time. Then they would begin to try their hand at breaking the encryption on the copy and see if they could manage unlocking their secrets before they departed without risking the originals.

Hostiles: 2 or more Kadian Dalek Beasts

Our platoon began to fan out. The Lieutenant kept everyone moving closely. I stayed behind the female trooper keeping my carbine and vibroblade close at hand. “Roger that Princess, glad to hear. We were unable to raise you on the comms it seems there is something jamming communications from the ships to us. We are moving to secure the communications array. We’ll link up with them as soon as possible. I hope that” My communication was cut short as a viscous scream was heard from above us. We had made our way into a hall way. The vent above us rattled and broke. Two small horrifying beasts fell on top of me and the female trooper. I let loose a yelp as the creature’s tentacle mass engulfed me. I [SIZE=11.8181819915771px]thrust[/SIZE] the blade right up into the beast's belly.

The crack of laser fire erupted in the hall way. I struggled to get the creature off of me but the beast reared its head up. Acid dripped onto my chest plate. Each drop sizzled onto the plastoid wafting a burnt scent into the air. I pushed my carbine into the creature’s legs and squeezed the trigger. It howled in pain. Using my knee I pushed against its weight up and swung my vibroblade across its face slashing it.

The comms went wild as it appeared there were several more of these beasts. The creature got of me as it tried to recover from the wound. I glanced at point trooper to see she fared better then me. She had stabbed the other monstrosity with a combat dagger straight into an organ sack. The beast slumped to the ground. Her armor was badly damaged. She looked up to and me and yelled “SIR LOOK OUT!” as she tried to raise her carbine to aim.

I managed to just turn my head to the side to see what she was looking at and acidic saliva splashed across the back of my helmet. The trooper who was behind me was now a bloody pulp. Another creature was stood erect on top the slain warrior.

Location: Holding pattern just above crash site
Objective: Provide covering fire for ground forces; Evacuate survivors and troops
Hostiles: Unknown number of Kadian Dalek Beasts

This is not good Delta One we are out of missiles!” Delta Two shouted as we launched the last missile into another pack of the monsters. The troopers below seemed to be tightening the defensive line.
All ground units prepare for dust off here in two minutes” I stated calmly through the commlink. We could not maintain this position for much longer. I began to lower the Cradle down further to the ground. I hit the switch to lower the ramp.
Holy Frak Delta One… Kara this too close even for you!”
We are dropship pilots today Delta Two! So hold on tight Frank we are going to make this hot and dirty
A grin split across my face as he began to unleash an endless stream of laser fire just over the heads of the troopers. I put us right behind the defense line that had formed.
Outside a few of the storm troopers ran up to the ramp. One them carried an E-Web and mounted it on the bottom ramp and began to provide covering fire. A medical droid came jogging down the ramp and made its way toward the crash site.
