Faction Across the Stars: The Wedding of Alicio Organa and Amani Serys (GA, NJO, Friends)

"What's a Shi'ido wedding usually look like?"

"Depends on the tradition," Inanna replied, relishing the kiss. "Each clan has their own, but it usually involves a lot of drinking and dancing. It's also a lot less... quiet than this." Shi'ido parties in general could get pretty rowdy. They did live on a jungle planet, after all, and celebrations were a chance to make as much noise as possible to deter any predators from intruding on the festivities.

"Why, do you want a Shi'ido wedding?"

Thelma smiled, her head already full of ideas for dresses and gowns. Her reverie was interrupted as Maeve and Silas seemed to have a minor disagreement. She implied that he was on his way to becoming an alcoholic, which of course made Silas grow defensive. Thelma was admittedly uncomfortable with the topic of addiction - she'd had a hard enough time controlling her species' unusual diet - but she tried to smooth things over. "I'll make sure he doesn't drink too much tonight," she said, wrapping an arm around Silas' waist.

The gesture of support rapidly became a means to hide, however, as their little quartet swelled in number. It began with the arrival of a red-haired woman, who introduced herself as Alora. She seemed friendly enough; Thelma even thought she recognized her. "You work in the Halls of Healing, right?" she asked.

Then the bride and groom came over, and Thelma shrank against Silas' side. She wasn't one to hold a grudge, especially now that she had a master of her own, but there was a lingering awkwardness between her and Amani ever since their last meeting. No doubt Amani was still suspicious of her, wanting to know why Thelma had behaved so strangely.

Finally, they were joined by a man whom Maeve greeted with familiarity, at which point Thelma lost what little grasp she had of the conversation. She sipped her drink, staying quiet, letting everyone else talk.

"But you're right. Alcoholics make terrible Jedi. Keep chasing your way to the bottom of a glass, and I suspect Master Noble would chase you right out of the temple. Or off a cliff. I wouldn't know."

"I wouldn't go that far," Jasper shrugged. "Valery would certainly have some choice words, but she doesn't run people out."

Maeve admittedly hadn't met her. Perhaps she really only thought of the position and authority that came with her title. Mastter Noble would lecture, sure, but she didn't abandon people. She was the kind of leader Jasper wished had been there when he was younger. He had went into self exile before her arrival, around when the temple was attacked. Maybe things may have been different if he had stayed a bit longer...

New arrivals changed the subject in his mind, the newly-weds themselves.

"Good to see you all. How's things going over here?"

"Hey, Miss Amani," Jasper waved, but then froze for a moment in confusion, "Er, is it proper to still call you that? I don't know anything about Alderaanian educate."

Miss Amani was what he had called her back when he was a padawan, and she was still his superior given her age, experience, and council status. But now she probably had some really elaborate title or something, right? Jasper knew very little about high society, given his humble Jedi upbringing and his junker-mechanic life style.

"Oh, uh, right," the knight shook his head. He was getting off track. "I got you something. Made it myself... A-admittedly I'm not too skilled with jewelry, but I hope you can find use of it."

Jasper retrieved his gift, an ornate box made from hand-carved ironwood. Within the couple would find a pendant, forged and polished gold twine around a purified kyber crystal, one which Jasper had taken off a Sith while hunting an artifact with Iris Arani Iris Arani in disguise.

"So... any plans after all of this is over?" Jasper asked the two.

There was something ever-so-slightly intimidating about introducing himself to a crowd of Jedi he didn't know.

Arm-in-arm with Amani, Alicio steeled himself before walking into a group of people he'd never met before. It was an odd thing, for a Senator to be shy, but as Amani seemed to know everyone, and everyone seemed to know Amani... for the first time since the wedding started, Alicio felt just a little out of his depth.

"I'm... Alicio," he said after a moment, fighting through the awkward tendency to stay silent. "I hope you're all enjoying yourselves."

A man, perhaps the only other non-Jedi in the conglomerate of people, offered a traditional congratulations. Alicio nodded gracefully, feeling a bit more welcome. "Thank you. No one can know the future, but... I have high hopes it just might be." He smiled down to Amani.

"Er, is it proper to still call you that? I don't know anything about Alderaanian educate."

Alicio smiled, sneaking a side-eye at his wife. "Well, technically, Amani would be a 'Your Excellency', now." He smirked playfully. "Genuflection and kissing of boots optional."

The Jedi passed Amani a small box, and Alicio waited for Amani to open it, falling back a step to let her have her moment, and answer her friends' questions.

Archie seemed to understand it had been given a name, before it jumped away, apparently satisfied with the title. Alicio watched it for a moment, deeply curious of the creature, before returning his attention to Amani.

After their boisterous hug, Alicio looked down at the Mirialan, care in his expression. "Slow is good," he said, nodding. So far, going slow had done them well. Amani kissed him then, and Alicio found a subtle little smile, pressing his forehead to hers, to stare into those eyes he loved so much.

"You'll always have my vote, love."

Alora's smile widened as the blonde woman, Maeve Linahan Maeve Linahan , welcomed her into the group.

And she nodded to Thelma Goth Thelma Goth , "that's right. I'm still rather new, but getting used to things." She almost added something like 'hope to see you around the Halls,' but it was generally not a good thing when she saw fellow Jedi there -- injured. If she popped in for a visit, though, Alora would certainly be fine with that. She noted that Thelma seemed to shrink away into Silas' side.

But it wasn't long until they were joined by another wedding guest. When Alora turned, she found herself looking skyward to see Alexander Hayes Alexander Hayes . "Alora. Nice to meet you," she said, keeping her introduction short because the bride and groom were approaching.

She couldn't help but beam at Amani Serys Amani Serys . The chief healer did look radiant, and her happiness was easy to sense. Alora hadn't met Senator Alicio Organa Alicio Organa yet, but she offered him a polite nod.

"You look beautiful!" she said. "Congratulations to you both. I'm so happy for you!"

"Sounds up my alley," Cato smirked and shrugged, "Well, I'm pretty sure a Bonadan wedding is little more than joylessly signing a marriage contract. And I'm not sure I even wanna know what a Nar Shaddaa wedding is."

Another shrug, "We could probably at least have the wedding in Maranatha, hm? Alderaan's a bit more scenic than home," A place which they were eager to fully move out of anyway. Being the venue for their wedding was not the sendoff Narsh deserved. "Unless you had somewhere more unique in mind?"

Serena, discontent with not being the center of attention for more than ten seconds, reached up and tried to feed her father a bit of her leftover cupcake. Which more accurately amount to smushing a wad of it onto his cheek. She laughed gleefully, earning the same response from him as he wiped the mess off and kissed her forehead.

"Well, I'm pretty sure a Bonadan wedding is little more than joylessly signing a marriage contract. And I'm not sure I even wanna know what a Nar Shaddaa wedding is."

"Probably usually involves shotguns, or a dinky chapel reeking of booze with an officiant dressed like Alvis Preston," she joked. "No kidding, it's Alderaan. Will probably be expensive as hell, but you don't have to worry about that now that you're a rich man." So nice of Inanna to leave everything to Cato upon her death.

"Unless you had somewhere more unique in mind?"

"Not really, no. Maranatha is the ideal choice. Provided we can bring your mother along, if she's willing to come." Briefly distracted as she watched Amani and Alicio heading to the bar, Inanna turned back toward Cato to find him covered in cake. Her laughter joined Serena's. "Hey, don't I get to have some too?" she asked, leaning down to blow a raspberry against Serena's neck. She was rewarded with a smear of cake and frosting across her nose by a giggling Serena. "Thank you!"

"Lovely." Noting Cora's approach, he wrapped up the current conversation. "I look forward to seeing what you have in mind." Cadence would twist his schedule around, if necessary. Naturally, he need not bother with such rote work.

"Ah, Corazona. Lovely as always." Her backhanded compliment earned a genuine smile from him. "What can I say, I enjoy doing my own thing. Nothing quite like treading one's own path, no?" The words were harmless enough, but he hoped she would catch the teasing undertones and the gleam in his eyes.

Had he known the truth of her familial situation, teasing would have been the last thing on his mind.

"A pleasure, Aiden," He said, nodding casually in the Jedi's direction - and fluidly switching to shorter, less formal sentences. He had yet to meet a Jedi concerned with the intricacies of courtly decorum - except Cora, of course.

"He's right," Amani told hold of her gown and curtsied in a royal manner, "I expect no less than a deep bow any time I enter a room," She grinned playfully, "But no, I wouldn't expect you to treat me any differently now," Maybe the more traditional types would disagree, but she wasn't exactly traditional Alderaanian nobility. Lording a title over everyone else wasn't something this Countess intended to enforce, certainly not on her friends and peers.

Alex, Maeve, and Alora offered their well wishes, and Amani dipped her head in appreciation, "Thank you all, really. It's been wonderful. I hope you're all enjoying yourselves?" Given they were gathered around the bar, she assumed that might be the case. Thelma was noticed, and if the padawan happened glance her way, Amani would give her a pleasant, if somewhat subdued smile. She couldn't blame Thelma if she was perhaps a bit upset about being recommended for a role other than healer, but given that her efforts with the power literally seemed to sap the girl's life away, it was the only logical decision Amani could make with the information given. At least she was here, if not necssarily for Amani's sake.

Jasper spoke up again, reminded of the gift he had been holding. The bride opened it up, revealing the purified crystal inside. She smiled, "It's lovely, Jasper, thank you. Did you purify this?" At his own question, her grin widened, and she tugged on Alicio's arm, "Wellll after this we'll be off to our honeymoon. For which we have yet to decide on a destination," She turned to her husband, "I'm thinking somewhere with a beach. Lake or ocean, doesn't matter to me."

"You'll always have my vote, love."

"I know," Amani hummed, touching her forehead to his. Today had been even more perfect than she could have imagined. The ceremony and the reception both had brought a measure of joy she was quite certain she had never felt before, and would never forget any time soon. The best day of her life. And going forward, she'd be spending the rest of that life with Alicio by her side.

"What's next for us?" She glanced around at the partygoers, nodding in the direction of the first senator she recognized, Desric Terassi Desric Terassi , and those around him, "Care to go talk with some folks more your speed?" Of course, some of those folks were still Jedi. But close enough.

Inanna Harth Inanna Harth - Open

Cato snorted, "Then maybe it's a bit more my speed than I thought," Alas, they had far better options available to them. And as Inanna iterated, money technically wasn't an issue for them, "At least something's going right for us."

Despite the dire straits they found themselves in as of late, they had managed to turn some of it around in their favor. And they were still together, as a family. That was all Cato needed, "We ought to check up on her soon, my mom," The train of thought Brough him around to something else he was curious about, "What's the deal with your family in all of this? Have you told them?" If the wedding was going to be at Maranatha, he assumed they would have to be made aware if they weren't already.

Pretty soon all three of them had a bit of cake smeared on their faces, thanks to Serena. Cato grabbed some napkins as his laughing trailed off, bopping Inanna's nose as he wiped it off, before doing the same to his cheek. Serena was more resistant, squirming as he tried to make her mouth less of a mess.

"Well, technically, Amani would be a 'Your Excellency', now." He smirked playfully. "Genuflection and kissing of boots optional."

The remark got a smirk out of Jasper. Alicio had a sense of humor. That wasn't always the case with politicians. They always seemed so stiff and professional.

"It's lovely, Jasper, thank you. Did you purify this?"

"Oh, yeah," Jasper nodded, scratching at the bridge of his nose. "A few months back. I've been doing a bit more stuff in the undercity. There's been more Sith activity down there, so I've had a bit of practice purifying."

Admittedly, he wasn't as fast as most people, but the purification of kyber wasn't exactly an easy process. He was willing to give himself a pass on that one.

"The ocean, huh?" the knight frowned. "Wielu has some good beaches... Actually, I don't think I could recommend it. A lot of black market activity. Maybe I'll just let you two decide for yourselves."

That was a good idea.

The K’paur offered the newlyweds a smile before they turned their attention to the others present. Alex briefly paused to introduce himself to Alora, a dash of amusement in his eyes at the fact she had to look up quite a bit to reach his face. He took a sip of his drink, finally returning his attention to the blonde Shadow beside him.

I might look good, but you look lovely Maeve.” He flashed her a grin, before it disappeared behind a sip of his drink. The K’paur meant what he said. It was a nice contrast to see the Shadow out of her armour. Trading silver with something more golden, the wreath atop her head tying it all together.

But he could also tell she felt a bit out of place. This wasn’t her scene, not like the battlefield was. Alex was much the same, having been detached from having a social life for too long. It was a weird feeling to try and socialise when it doesn’t involve holding a rifle, and fighting alongside someone.

And it seemed Maeve had been fighting something herself, something more undercurrent. Or at least, that’s what Alex took from how quickly she had downed the scotch before.

With that said, the K’paur downed the remainder of his and placed the glass down.

He looked over to Maeve again. “Another drink?

Yeah. Just maybe leave Serena on a planet with decent air quality.” Bonadan was yet another polluted ecumenopolis. Not good for little lungs.

"What's the deal with your family in all of this? Have you told them?"

After what happened with Samyaza, not telling them would be a pretty dick move.” Picking up a cupcake for herself, she permitted Cato to bop her nose with the napkin. “Don’t worry, I have my ways. They know…

Turning toward Alicio and Amani, she glanced down at her cupcake, a horrible idea popping into her head. It would be funny, and she could always pass it off as a Shi’ido tradition… but nah. These sweets were too good to waste on throwing them at people, especially since she doubted this crowd could be coaxed into having a food fight.

Instead, she held the cupcake up as if it were a toast, giving them a wink before she started eating.

"I'll make sure he doesn't drink too much tonight."

"Oh, no," said Maeve. "Please, don't let me stop either of you from enjoying the reception. There's nothing wrong celebrating with a few drinks."

As the words left her mouth, she had to wonder if they were meant more for her than for Silas, given how easily she'd downed that last glass of scotch. She had no plans on drinking herself into a stupor, but Maeve had a distinct feeling that she would not be leaving this reception without at least one alcohol-induced migraine.

"I'm... Alicio. I hope you're all enjoying yourselves."

"Alicio," she repeated. "I don't believe we've had the opportunity to meet yet. I'm Maeve. Jedi Knight, and a… friend of Amani's." She wasn't sure if Amani would quite classify her as a 'friend'—rather more of a close acquaintance—but she was merely glad to have been given the honor to attend her wedding, to meet him.

"Treat her well," Maeve said. "Else I will have some very unflattering things to say, and I am an already very unflattering person. Just fair warning." She offered him an innocent smile, as if it was simply a joke, but for all intents and purposes, she had meant every word.

"I might look good, but you look lovely Maeve."

Maeve's attention shifted solely back to Alexander. His words caught her by surprise, and for a few moments, she stared at him, blinking. Once, twice. She hadn't expected the compliment from him and she wasn't exactly sure what to say besides a curt, "Thanks."

For some reason, she felt suddenly conscious of what she wearing. The gold-beaded dress, the wreath of metal leaves and berries tucked in her hair. She'd been called many things in the past: blunt, strong, composed, but never lovely.

Maeve cleared her throat. "Another drink sounds like a great idea," she answered, even if it wasn't. Signaling the bartender, she ordered a brandy, something with a little less alcohol content than scotch or whiskey. Her mind was resilient, although her liver was a different story. She might've never tested the limits of her tolerance, but she'd never been much of a drinker to begin with.

"You know, I half-thought you would be in a trench somewhere in the Outer Rim fighting Sith, not here," she told Alex. "Who dragged you here? Master Noble?"

Alicio returned Alora's compliment with a nod and a smile. Though he mostly left Amani to field the compliments and well-wishes. These were her people, after all. It wouldn't be right for him to step in her way.

Though one Jedi was more than comfortable with jokingly confronting him. Alicio looked down at Maeve with an amused glimmer in his eye.

"Treat her well. Else I will have some very unflattering things to say, and I am an already very unflattering person. Just fair warning."

"Consider me warned," he said, his mouth pulling back into an easy smirk. There wasn't a doubt in the Alderaanian's mind- he would always treat Amani well. Till the day he died.

Talk of a honeymoon shocked him back to the conversation at large. Alicio faked an annoyed huff. "Well, as a matter of fact, I have been thinking about it." He turned to Jasper, shrugging his shoulders. "I was thinking Naboo. Maybe we find a nice, rustic cabin. A small pond out back. Somewhere quiet. Where we can just... be away, for a while."

Something made Alicio turn his head then, and he spotted Cato Harth Cato Harth , little Serena, and a blue-skinned woman he'd never seen. It took the Count a moment to realize the unfamiliar woman had toasted and winked at them, and a moment longer to realize what that meant. A smile, shining like the sun, broke across his face, as he simply nodded back at Inanna Harth Inanna Harth .

Alicio-Divider.png

"Care to go talk with some folks more your speed?"

"I suppose," the Count conceded, already beginning to take steps towards the small group. He'd been avoiding thinking about politics all day, but he could never truly escape them. Not if he wanted to make a real difference. Besides, these senators had come all this way to wish him and Amani well, despite political affiliations. That had to count for something.

The Count stepped confidently up to the mixed company of Jedi and bureaucrats, the kindest of smiles on his usually serious face. "Thank you all for coming," he said, smiling apologetically to the senators. "Senator Terassi. Senator Vexx. I realize how busy our schedules have been recently, so... thank you both for coming so far afield. Really." Even if their attendance was just for political clout, it did mean a lot to him. Even Dominique received nothing but a warm welcome from the Count.

He then widened the talk to include Cora and Aiden, as well. "I hope you're all enjoying yourselves. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask."

Cato snorted, "That it would be," They deserved to know she was still alive. That another member of their family hadn't been tragically lost. Besides, it would be kinda weird if he showed up one day wanting to have a wedding at his "ex"-fiancée's home with some lady he presumably just met.

As soon as Serena's face was clean, she undid all the work by smushing the last bit of cupcake in her mouth. Cato just shook his head, before noticing Inanna's suspicious glance at her own cupcake. He shot her a quizzical expression, but whatever she was plotting turned into a mere nod and a toast. He grabbed one of his own and did the same, giving Alicio Organa Alicio Organa a knowing look, before returning to his family.

"You wanna do any mingling? Dancing? Just sit around and enjoy the peace and quiet a while longer?"

Inanna Harth Inanna Harth - Open

"You wanna do any mingling? Dancing? Just sit around and enjoy the peace and quiet a while longer?"

"If we dance, baby has to come with us," Inanna pointed out. "Can't just leave her here by herself. Which I don't mind, so long as she doesn't, uh, what's the funny word you like to use? 'Yartz' on either of us?"

Serena clapped her cake-smeared hands.

"As for mingling..." Inanna murmured, glancing around as she ate her cupcake. She hadn't really been paying much attention to the other people milling about. They were all strangers to her, and not really her crowd. "Looks like nearly everyone is either a Senator or a Jedi... I'd prefer to avoid the former. The latter is all right, but better when drunk. I assume you don't know any of these people, apart from the blond with the manbun who you sorta recognized last time?" She pointed to Jasper Kai'el Jasper Kai'el , then looked at Cato, biting her lip. "Or we could always leave early..."

Amani weighed the kyber in her palm while Jasper spoke, and nodded in approval, "Glad someone's keeping a look out down there. If you ever need any backup, let me know," She winked. Sith activity was never a good thing anywhere, least of all the Alliance capital. But they could at least be there to make sure such efforts were never left unchecked.

Maeve's half-joking warning got a smirk from the bride, "He knows better than to mess with two Jedi," Of course, Alicio had been nothing but wonderful to Amani, but knowing a friend would have her back regardless was a warm feeling. She then watched out of the corner of her eye as Alex offered another round of drinks to Maeve, and smiled privately at the development before returning to their conversation with Jasper. Mention of Naboo made her eyes light up, "You know just what to say," She had always wanted to visit. What better chance than their honeymoon?

Alicio's shifting gaze brought Amani's attention to a couple further off. She recognized Cato, who had been a fellow Silver once (and as a matter of fact, helped clear her name during her operations within the Sith Empire), but despite some interlap in their mutual friends, the two never really interacted one-on-one much. Weird.

She regarded him with a nod, but was more curious about the woman and the baby he was with. After a bit of thought, Amani inevitably came to the same realization as Alicio. She blinked, and whispered, "Inanna has a kid?"

Amani could sense some of the Count's hesitancy. But ultimately today was for celebration. The gathered politicians may not always see eye to eye, but they could still appreciate the effort taken to show up and offer a bit of congratulations in spite of that. She tagged along, letting him take the lead as they stepped up to the assembled group. "Desric, Aiden," She nodded to the two men she was already acquainted with. Amani recognized the other padawan as one of Valery's, though the two of them had yet to meet in any official capacity, "Cora, right? It's nice to finally meet you," The final woman she recognized only from publicized assembly debates, "You as well, Senator Vexx."

Dominique smiled and regarded Desric Terassi Desric Terassi as he commented on the quality of independence. There'd be no disagreement, but she hoped neither believed independence (or "freedom" as Darkwire would crow) by itself was enough. Risks and blazing new trails to greater fortunes were where the real excitement was. Independence was merely a byproduct -- a necessity. One would never achieve their true greatness cowering in the shadows of others, shielded by their endless, enveloping, and smothering over protectiveness.

Something she had to remind herself of late due to unfortunate events. Well, things were back on track again.

Before the group knew it, the Couple of the Day began to glide toward them. Dominique's smile grew. "Think nothing of it, Mister Organa. Times like these make life worth living, don't they? One should always make time to attend." There had been a brief war over which salutation to use, but ultimately Dominique chose not to use 'Senator.' Today wasn't about the Senate.

Would she have tolerated him being so... familiar? Most likely. Perhaps. Not something she'd dwell on.

Vexx's golden eyes shone in the light as Amani also bid her welcome to the group. "Congratulations are in order. Were I as monstrous as my reputation, I would have fled from the radiance that surrounds you both. I offer you the greatest success and happiness from all of Denon for you both."

Cato smirked, and shrugged, "Well we could always burp her first. Might reduce the chance," He looked at Serena, who was giving him some indiscernible bug-eyed stare, "She's probably past the constant yartzing phase, right? Almost? Maybe?" As if he knew. She was nearing a year old now, so he could only hope. He almost found himself disappointed that the first year was already coming to a close. But watching her grow up was a reward all its own.

Inanna gave her analysis of the gathered patrons, ending with a bite of her lip and a suggestion to take their leave early. Cato's smirk widened, but also shrugged again, "Up to you, babe. I'm sure we can find some fun here, but I ain't gonna make you stay," Despite the fact that half the guests were Jedi, neither he nor Inanna really fit in with the crowd. Serena seemed to be enjoying herself at least, confirming as much with a gleeful screech.
