Avalore Eden
If there be light...
Coruscant - Jedi Temple - Laboratory 6 - 3AM
"He came from down there," a tiny hand of a tiny young girl pointed down a very large and ominous hallway.
This was not a part of the Temple that Avalore had ever visited, but when her young orphan Padawan friend, Ysan, came to her in the middle of the night with a very urgent matter, well...
...one thing lead to another. Avalore rolled her eyes with a sigh, looking down to the scrawny womprat pup in her arms that had been placed there nearly an hour before by Ysan. It was friendly enough and clearly domesticated, but young and also clearly not where it should be. How the girl came across it?
"I found him in this hallway," Ysan insisted.
"What would a womprat be doing in the Science wing of the temple, Ysan?"
"Maybe one of the Masters keeps him as a pet?" she returned, looking up and hopeful.
Avalore highly doubted that. Womprat and science wing didn't often to hand in hand with the word "pet." Experiment subject was more likely.
"A womprat is not a pet, Ysan. Come on, let's put him back where he belongs," she tugged at the young girl and lead off down the hall, a curious arrangement of seven-month-pregnant Healer, 12 year old Padawan, and juvenile womprat. They searched the many chambers and laboratories before they came upon a door marked "Laboratory 6."
Avalore stood on her tiptoes and peered in through the glass panes at the top. It was dark in the lab and she was very tired, but she thought she saw the glint of metal cages.
"Let's look in here, I think this is it," Avalore pressed her hand onto the security pad and watched, ever hopeful that her status as an Upper Class Healer-in-training would continue to grant her access to odd places in the Temple. After a moment a green light flashed and the doors hissed open.
The womprat in her arms shifted and squirmed rather suddenly and she struggled to keep hold of it.
"Ysan find the light switch - hold still you - it's probably on that control panel over there!"
"Okay," Ysan stepped passed her and she saw her figure move towards the panel where she stood over it for several moments looking pensive. Ysan reached up, hand hovering over the many controls, and plopped her finger down.
A loud clicking sound resulted. Avalore sensed movement.
"Try again."
"Maybe this one," Ysan tried another.
CLICK.
Avalore could have sworn she felt something brush past her leg. She wiggled around, trying to maintain hold of the squirming rodent.
"This one?" Ysan persisted.
CLICK CLACK CLICK CLACK CLACK.
"Oh, this one!"
The lights came on to reveal a lab full of open cages and escaping womprats.
Avalore's jaw dropped, "Oh.... no."
