A Healing Retreat

Arkas - A few months before Outbreak
Amongst their time together; that didn't consist of occupying one bed or another, Maiev had gotten to know Elpsis a lot more. She had learned of the various people in the empath's life, such as the few aunts she had. One in particular became a noted topic, from previous passing comments that had revealed 'Auntie Sio' to the witch. It had been during a time when Maiev was showing Elpsis how she 'healed'. As while the witch wasn't specifically trained as a healer, she had some talent for it which was bolstered by the various tonics and remedies she could create through alchemy.

It had led to Elpsis asking if Maiev could do her a favour. Apparently Siobhan Kerrigan was injured, supposedly a build up from the various traumas she had been dealt over the years. That now reached a point where it had forced the Kerrigan matriarch into recovery and kept away from anything active.

Maiev had accepted, and had been given the coordinates of where to find her after Elpsis had informed her aunt about the eventual arrival.

That was what brought the sizable freighter soaring down through Arkas' atmosphere and along towards the private island that Siobhan owned.

"I can see why someone who want to stay here for an extended period of time, the planet is gorgeous." Maiev was in the cockpit, looking out through the viewport as they flew over the expansive ocean and various islands dotted around. "We heading to the right one, Iggy?" She turned to look at the droid that was currently piloting the ship.

"I am following the coordinates as provided by Miss Elpsis, we also have clearance to land but you'll either be greeted upon departure or at the doors. There's apparently quite a bit of security around the island."

Maiev nodded and retreated from the cockpit to get ready. She was dressed in one of her usual outfits, devoid of any jewelry aside from the small emerald crystal that hung around her neck. She returned to packing some supplies into her satchel, a mix of pre-mixed concoctions and various ingredients to make more. It had been a while since Maiev had been asked to examine and help a specific individual. There was no doubt going to be a process of working out what was going to work best, and for that she needed to be prepared to have as many different ingredients as possible.

Once Iggy finally landed the ship, Maiev moved to the ramp and then departed from the vessel.

Sandy white beaches, palm trees, a clear, cerulean sky and a warm blue ocean - the private island was the perfect sanctuary. Siobhan had laid claim to it many years ago, after Firemane had liberated Arkas from the oppressive, chaotic rule of corsairs, replacing it with enlightened corporate despotism.

The locals, whose numbers had swelled due to the influx of refugees and exiles from across the stars, understood on which side their bread was buttered. They knew that their somewhat eccentric benefactor valued her privavy, and so she tended to be undisturbed whenever she retired to her personal island.

Discreetly, a shield generator and anti-aircraft batteries had been installed. Maiev's transport was cleared for landing, after her droid pilot transmitted the appropriate clearance code. The transport blew up a cloud of dust and sand when it touched down upon the ground. A space had been cleared to allow ships to land, though the place got little traffic.

When the Dathomiri witch emerged from her vessel, she would find that a small welcoming committee awaited her. It was composed of members of the Lady Kerrigan's personal guard detachment. Some were Qadiri, a race of nimble, bronze skinned elves native to Tygara. Others were Dahomians, tough, dark skinned humans who filled the ranks of many of Firemane's elite troops.

A mocha coloured warrior woman stepped forward to greet the Lady's guest. She was six feet tall, with the imposing build of wrestler. Her hair was short and she wore Firemane fatigues, which incidentally looked rather good on her, showing off her muscles. "Ms Maiev, welcome to Corcyra," she said in a professional, slightly accented tone. Keen, brown eyes studied the witch, scrutinising her. "I'm Sergeant Simoom, head of security. The Lady Mistress is expecting you."

Corcyra, and Arkas in general, were paradises. Little nestled pockets of peace away from the chaos and danger of the galaxy.
Of course, when the option came up for Firemane to acquire the island, they took it. To a company as large and powerful as Firemane it was a choice which didn’t need any hesitation.
Since then a beautiful new-age villa had been constructed on the island, and the installation of shield generator and defence guns ensured that the inhabitants remained undisturbed.

As Tegaea sat in one of the many luxurious studies with glorious views of the beach she saw the ship coming in to land. With a frown she laid down her datapad and headed outside, ringing a small bell.
One of her attendants, a pretty Eldorai named Naith, came over. “Yes, Mistress?”
“Whose ship is it which landed just now?”
“I believe it is a Ms Maiev, Mistress.”
“Ah, of course. Excellent. Inform Lady Kerrigan and have Harmony provide any assistance she needs. I will meet our guest.”

And so Maiev would find the tall redhead waiting for her, dressed in a professional business suit.
“Welcome, Maiev! I’m Tegaea Alcori, Siobhan’s wife. Please do come in, you’re expected.”

Even though she was expecting it, the witch was still taken a bit by surprise when the welcoming committee was just there already. Each and every one of them staring at Maiev, making her admittedly somewhat nervous.

Then Sergeant Simoom made herself known, stepping forwards and greeting her. She was imposing...to say the least. Maiev looked up and bit back a retort that immediately wanted to sprung to the tip of her tongue.

Kalax on the other hand, had no issues with that.

<You think she could go toe to toe with a rancor?>

Maiev wanted to slap the spirit around the head with that comment, but instead pushed the desire aside.

"Thank you for the welcome, Sergeant Simoom." She gave a small nod to the towering woman, before gazing around at the others that had been gathered to greet her. "I take it you're here to escort me into the building?" Then a brief thought occurred, and Maiev pulled her satchel off from her shoulder. "I also presume you'd want to have a check on the contents?"

A sharp nod was the response she got, before the Dahomian took the bag and began to carefully examine the contents. Maiev chimed in, explaining what each thing was but she got the impression Simoom wasn't too interested beyond ensuring none of them were dangerous. Which they weren't, and in general the witch didn't look it either, as she had left her blades back on the ship.

With that done, the satchel was handed back to Maiev and she was led further into Corcyra. Eventually they stopped upon being greeted by Tegaea.

"Thank you, Ms Alcori." She offered the woman a smile. "And thank you for allowing me to come." After all, she knew if neither woman wanted her here then she never would've been able to land.

She walked forwards, and stepped inside finally.

"I must say, you've picked a gorgeous place to settle."

"Correct. Standard security protocol," Simoom responded in a crisp, businesslike tone. Fortunately, Maiev handed over the satchel without prompting, so the Firemane Sergeant proceeded to meticulously inspect its contents. The various potions and ingredients made her frowned slightly.

She was more than a little reminded of the concoctions cooked up by witch doctors on Dahomey. Back home, practicioners were known as Sangomas. Some were true healers, but others quacks who exploited local superstitions and lack of advanced medical technology. She gave some of the herbs a more thorough look and briefly opened one of the vials, whereupon a vile scent invaded her nostrils.

The witch chimed in to explain the contents of her package, though Simoom did not look too interested in the details, beyond her security concerns. Having assured herself that the darkhaired witch doctor was not about to poison her boss, she put her toys back in the satchel and returned it to her.

"Thank you for your cooperation. Everything's in order. Please come with me," she told Maiev. As she turned, she glanced towards one of her minions. "Make sure Ms Maiev's ship is refuelled." Having passed on her instructions, she led the Dathomiri towards the luxurious villa, where they encountered Tegaea. Upon seeing her mistress, Simoom inclined her head slightly in a gesture of respect. "Ma'am."

Naith ended up finding Siobhan in the pool of the villa. Given her disabilities, the Lady had stuck to the shallow waters. Presently, she was unable to really move her legs. This frustrated her deeply, but she found resting in the warm waters to be relaxing and was able to perform some basic exercises.

"Lady Mistress, a Ms. Maiev has arrived. Lady Alcori has gone out to greet her," Naith reported, after curtseying obediently. Despite - or perhaps because - being born in the gutter, Siobhan was fond of some rather archaic social customs. It was probably only a matter of time before she introduced the kowtow.

It took Siobhan a moment to react. The Eldorai had the impression the Lady might be dozing, but she did not prod her. "Maiev? Right. Elpsis' girl." Siobhan had stopped trying to keep track of the young empath's love life. "Get me out of here. I'll join them."

"I'm sure Elpsis would not mind sharing, Your Worship," Harmony opined cheekily. The very pretty, busty Dahomian had been keeping Siobhan company after giving her a back rub. With the help of the two attendants, Siobhan was removed from the pool. After she'd been dried herself off, tidied her unruly firemane and, with some help, slipped into a nice scarlet dress, she was put into her hover chair.

Tegaea nodded approvingly at Simoom's efficient and thorough process.
"Sergeant," she replied. "Good work, I'll take it from here."

To Maiev she could now turn her full attention.
"It's no problem. Elpsis speaks highly of you, so I was happy to have you come here. My wife as you may know has had some medical issues recently and whilst science has provided some remedy we wanted the opinion of an independent with access to...other skills."
The last words were a big more vague since she was not a Force user herself, and much of it seemed more like magic than any logically discernable process. Still, if it helped she'd try anything.

"Arkas is a beautiful planet. As soon as we helped the natives get rid of the pirates and corsairs I knew we had found something special. This villa was constructed to take advantage of the climate and terrain of this island whilst also being secure and private. We finished it not long ago and I'm very pleased with the result."

She spoke as she led Maiev through the villa until she came to a sunroom overlooking the beach and inlet they were set on. There, Siobhan would be waiting for them.
Tegaea crossed and gave her wife a kiss. Turned to Naith. "Some drinks would be nice. The usual for me. Anything for you, love? How about you, Maiev? After that you may return to your duties. Harmony will stay with us."

As they walked through the villa, Maiev looked around taking in the beautiful sights. Though she was still listening attentively, and caught Tegaea's comment about 'other skills'. It made the witch pause, wondering what the woman was alluding too, until Kalax chimed in.

<She's not sensitive to the Force.>

The revelation pushed Maiev to see for herself, casually reaching out and finding nothing when 'looking' at Alcori. Nor was there any sign of her blocking it from being sensed, she was well and truly without the Force.

How interesting...

Especially given the snippet of stories Elpsis had told her about her aunt.

Soon, they reached the sunroom where Sio; and Harmony were waiting for them. Maiev immediately looked towards the two, specifically at Siobhan and taking in her state of health. The necessity for the hoverchair made it apparent just how extensive, and the specific area of issue. And for someone like Kerrigan? Being immobile must be hell after so many years of being active.

"Ms Kerrigan." The witch greeted, polite as ever with a small smile and a bow of the head. She turned to look at Tegaea, then to Naith as she waited for the witch's answer. "Oh, I'll have something that's native to Arkas?" After all, this was a new planet for Maiev and she always liked tasting the local food and drink on the first visit.

Siobhan's condition had improved a bit since departing hospital. Continuous exposure to the sun had given her pale skin a healthy tan. However, her body was still frail and she looked the part. While she was able to move her lips and communicate, one side of her face appeared rather rigid. On bad days, her right arm gave up the ghost. Furthermore, she was completely immobile - and that was hell to her.

Ironically, she would have been far less upset if her disabilities had been result of injuries sustained in combat. Those were the norm for her. However, she had not been injured while fighting gallantly. Instead, her body had betrayed her by succumbing to a disease. It was insulting.

She returned Tegaea's kiss. "Hey there, love," she said softly. "Some Atrisian green tea for me." It tended to help her relax. The Lady's curious, but wary brown fell upon her guest. Even though her own power was diminished, Siobhan could sense the darkhaired beauty's Force aura. It was not that of a master, but potent. There was something...odd about it. But it was too elusive for Siobhan to put her finger on it.

However, she approved of Maiev's dress. It was simple, yet elegant, offering an enticing view while leaving a lot to unwrap. The Lady had strong opinions about what constituted good fashion. "Ms. Maiev," her tone was polite, but wary. She spoke rather slowly. "So you're Elpsis' friend? I understand you became acquainted with her on one of her...quests?"

“There is a plant here on Arkas we have been doing much study of called Najim which is mildly narcotic. It was why this planet was so infested with pirates and cartels for so long. I’d not suggest drinking it though, so how about a Sapphire Leaf for Ms Maiev?” she told Naith.

The girl departed swiftly, leaving Tegaea to survey the other two. It was curious; she had expected Siobhan had met Maiev before, but since she had not things seemed a little…uncertain between them.

“Yes, I’ve heard from Elpsis about you a fair bit,” Tegaea said politely.

Naith soon returned with the drinks. The green tea for Siobhan, and a cup of caf for Tegaea. What was offered to Maiev was a light shimmering blue liquid in a mug, nearly as azure as the distant sea. It was warm. When drunk it’d taste similar to normal tea but slightly spicy.

“It’s a native plant we’ve just discovered in some of the deep jungles. It’s not remarkable apart from the colour it imparts to the water it is boiled in. Thankfully it doesn’t leave a stain on clothes.”

That done she sat back and sipped her drink, waiting for Maiev and Siobhan to get to the reason the witch was here.

Maiev smiled as she took her seat, immediately reminded of the 'quest' she had met Elpsis on.

"That's right, we crossed paths on Felucia. Ended up teaming up to crush a little Sith cult that had settled itself there." She didn't go into too much detail, figuring the empath had already informed Sio of what exactly went down on the planet.

The witch turned to look at Tegaea, as the woman described a plant that was apparently unique on Arkas. Finding new flora was another habit of Maiev's, one she always maintained when visiting a new planet. She had little interest in narcotics, and it only really extended to a point where she merely wanted to discover the components and find other uses for them.

She made a mental not to go and harvest some, permitting she had the time to. If not, then a return trip would be in order at a later date.

Eventually Naith had returned, drinks in hand and diligently moved to each of them with their respective cup. Maiev gave the Eldorai a quick 'thank you' before settling into her seat, taking a sip of her tea.

It was actually quite good.

<Tea is always good.>

A silence fell over the small group, signalling it was probably time to get things underway. Maiev turned to look at Siobhan.

"Elpsis asked if I could help you with tending to your various injuries, although she didn't go into great detail."

"Yes, she said as much. A good crushing is what all Sith deserve. Pity it's never possible to wipe them all out once and for all. They always linger like cockroaches," her tone was laced with a strong note of contempt and revulsion. She'd thrashed many a Sith Lord back in the day, though she was unable to remember some of these events. She'd also endured her share of defeats.

Naith returned, drinks in hand. For her part, Siobhan thanked the pretty Eldorai and took a sip from her tea. Atrisian green tea helped soothe her nerves a bit. Silence descended upon the group. Siobhan regarded Maiev as the witch spoke up when things started to get moving again.

"I have been suffering from some rather severe health issues recently," she said ambiguously, deliberately avoiding the word stroke. Perhaps she was simply wary of the newcomer, or she hated admitting that her body had failed her in such a manner. To her, it was an insulting sign of weakness. She had not given her body permission to be ill. "Presently, I am effectively immobilised. Elpsis said you have some skill in Force healing and alternate medicine."

“Sith; like Imperials, pirates and preachy Jedi, never seem to go extinct,” Tegaea commented wryly.

She listened to the discussion. She knew very much that Siobhan had trouble understanding how she could be ill if she didn’t want to be. If her mind could move mountains why couldn’t it purge the sickness? Sadly, mind over matter only went so far.

She did not add anything at this point. She knew little about Force healing or alternative medicines, but she would say something when the moment came.

The witch felt herself nodding, agreeing with what Sio had to say about the Sith. For the longest time, Maiev had felt the same disgust for them. Especially after seeing what they did to the nature around them, twisting it into something horrendous.

"Agreed, they're a disease to the galaxy and unfortunately have been around long enough that they just can't stay dead."

Kalax had enlightened her to that fact. It didn't matter if you wiped all the Sith out, the idea and concept of their order was cemented across the galaxy. One day another would rise, and that one would inevitably grow to one hundred again.

"I personally despise their alchemists, and their experiments." Maiev took a sip of her drink, calming the anger that was steadily brewing beneath the surface.

She frowned slightly at Siobhan's explanation. It wasn't really much to go on, devoid of any specific details of what exactly was afflicting the, Kerrigan Matriarch. She took note of the ambiguous tone, and wondered if there was reason why. The witch glanced over at Tegaea for a moment, wondering if she should ask the woman instead - if Sio wasn't going to.

However the topic shifted more towards her, and Maiev nodded softly as she placed her cup down for the moment.

"That's correct, while I haven't been specifically trained in Healing, I do have a decent level of skill." Of course that differed to the rest of the galaxy, given Dathomirian magic wasn't quite the same as simply using the Force. She went to continue speaking, but paused to think on it.

<You sure you want to talk about that so soon?>

It's gonna come up eventually, might as well lay it out now.

Maiev looked at both Sio and Tegaea before she spoke up again.

"Are you familiar with Dathomirian Magic?"

"We'd be better if all those groups were swallowed black hole and never popped up again," Siobhan spoke cynically, glancing briefly towards Tegs. These days, she saw little reason to hold back the scorn she felt for most Jedi. The Galaxy would be better off without this sanctimonious cult. Alas, like their Sith counterparts and latter-day Imperial Remnants, they staunchly refused to go the way of the Dodo for good.

Slowly, Siobhan sipped her tea. There was a content look on her face as she savoured the warmth inside her chest. At Maiev's query, a frown creased the Lady's features. "On a thereotical level. I understand it's an alternate way to draw upon the Force through use of incantations, rituals and such." Traditionalist practitioners of Dathomiri magic insisted they cast spells rather than make use of the Force or attributed its effects to the Spirits, but her view was staunchly secular.

"The Clan Mother of the Singing Mountain Clan aided in my recovery after I was spaced. I understand there's two schools - as seems awfully common any time the Force gets involved, but I digress. The Witches and the Nightsisters. You don't seem like a Nightsister though. Wrong aura. Too attractive." They tended to have creepy, ruptured blood vessel around their eyes. But there was something else about the Dathomiri that Siobhan could not put her finger on. You oppose Sith and their works. That is good, she thought. But there's something...odd about you. Her outward expression remained unchanged. Her tone was seemingly casual.

Tegaea Alcori

Tegaea did not know Dathomiri magic from Dravid Bronzefield’s magical show currently playing on the Ashira’s Light. Siobhan’s explanation made sense, probably. Different type of Force use.
The Eldorai had their own methods of using the Force, as did all the other natives they had encountered but they all called it a different thing.

Though she could not participate on a Force user level, she could observe proceedings from the corner. There must have been a reason why Siobhan wanted her here, and now she think she understood.

Siobhan was anxious. She was also being extremely evasive. So far she had only outlined a very vague description of her conditions, not going ahead and just saying that she had a stroke or anything similar. Was she concerned about Maiev or have doubts about her healing skills?

She decided to ask the question. As a novice to this discussion her asking certain questions would not come across as anything other than curiosity, but they might help Siobhan.

"So...this Dathomiri Magic, does it heal like Jedi can? We've known a few Jedi healers in our time together, and they've been skilled. Is that how yours works too?"

"You are correct." Maiev took a sip of her tea, attention fixed to Sio as the woman had spoken. "Although, the Clans do differ on that topic. From either it's magic; not the Force, no it actually is the Force, to it being all facets of it." The witch was very much of the latter, thanks to Kalax's teachings over the years. She saw the Force as a whole, not segmented into 'good' and 'bad' as the galaxy in general has done for eons.

Maiev raised an eyebrow, surprised to hear that Sio had been spaced and survived it. That, and it also reminded the witch of a time when she first learned about space and what it was to be flying in a ship.

Of course, all the bad things about it; such as being spaced, were the things that had stuck to her the most. She remembered being terrified initially, thinking the ship was going to fall apart around her.

She could hear Kalax chuckling at that thought. Those years had certainly been something.

"True, there are only two schools to Dathomirian Magic, if we're talking more broadly anyway." She let out a chuckle, and a small grin in response to Sio's compliment. "The Nightsisters were after all just another sect eons ago, only splintering off to focus on the darker arts." Again, it had been down to a divide between what was good and bad. It was just simple nature, no matter the species or race.

"But my point being, is that you'll be hard pressed to find a major clan that doesn't have some divergences in how they teach, compared to everyone else."

Another sip of her tea, and Maiev turned to look at Tegaea. She mulled the question in her mind for a moment, before speaking.

"In the sense that it uses the Force, yes. But the intent is different. The Jedi use peace and serenity when healing, whereas for the Sith it's near impossible without harming the one being tended to." Maiev paused, thinking over her words. She wasn't like Kalax, who could lecture away for hours on end. "Dathomirian Magic can tap into the spirits to heal, should the situation require it. There have been examples in our history, were one's spirit has a been 'broken' or 'cursed' and it's only been through our magic that it was healed." She turned to look at Sio again. "Of course, this isn't the issue in your case as your injuries seem to be more physical than spiritual. But for the most part, we combine the Force with items such as tonics and balms to assist in the process."

Maiev finally finished her tea, placing the cup down and looking between the two women. She would've asked for a refill, but the witch presumed she wasn't going to have time to soon.

"So to start with, do you have any specific allergies Ms. Kerrigan? And I will need to know what exactly is ailing you, so I know what to specifically focus on." At first she looked at Sio, although she did glance Tegaea's way too. Something told her she was going to need her help to get the information from the redhead.

"I see. Perhaps I should visit Dathomir some time," Siobhan muttered to herself in response. "It's one of the cultures in the galaxy that adheres to proper gender roles." She was quite militant when it came to gender warfare. She finished her tea and put the ceramic cup down. Though far from the most comfortable position, she was sitting straight inside her hoverchair.

"I'm allergic to Asphodel Root and I react poorly to Morphine." She looked towards Tegaea, then back to Maiev. She felt mildly uncomfortable. "I believe I've already outlined the nature of my ailments. I don't want to cause offence, but I'd say they're quite easy to spot with the naked eye. I had a rather irritating episode and now I require a hoverchair to move."

There was silence. Tegaea shifted slightly. Was that it? Was her wife going to sit there and not even tell the healer the full story?
"Sio..." she said softly, giving her wife a 'stop being so damn stubborn' look.
Finally, she decided that since her wife was being so uncooperative, she looked to Maiev. "She had a stroke, and as you can tell it is a source of considerable annoyance to her. If we want your help though we need to be up front with everything which is wrong."

She produced, but did not hand over a datapad to Maiev. It had the medical records and charts which Doctor Osway had compiled.
She needed Siobhan to give her the OK before she handed that over, but she did want to spur her decision.

While externally Maiev's expression remained mostly neutral, internally she winced slightly at Sio's reaction. It was clear at least to some degree, that the redhead was uncomfortable with the subject matter. The witch didn't see the stubborness in her words, which only worsened the small measure of guilt that welled up.

Certainly an impression to make while sitting in said person's home.

<Ease your mind Maiev.>

Instead she decided to distract herself, and as the silence fell Maiev occupied it by looking through her satchel. She propped it up onto her lap, flipping the latches and straps open. With Sio's allergies noted in her mind, the witch went through a mental checklist.

She already knew none of her remedies had any morphine in it, but she had to double check if there was any Asphodel Root included. It helped keep her distracted until Tegaea spoke up. Maiev looked up and over, seeing the datapad in the woman's hand. She put two and two together, figuring it was Sio's medical records.

Maiev looked over at the woman in question.

"I do apologize Ms. Kerrigan, I did not mean to cause you discomfort. But...I do need to know."

Siobha glared at her wife. A feeling of intense irritation rolled off her in waves. Furthermore, she felt as if she was being treated like a child. Then she sighed slightly and gave Tegs a curt, resigned nod. There would be words after this though. In a way, she felt a bit cornered.

"Alright, fine," she said moodily. "It is not a topic I like to discuss. It is extremely humiliating. My body should do as it's told not succumb to something as ridiculous as a disease," she almost spat the word, as if was something vile on her tongue. "I do not remember the precise details. Apparently I collapsed, and when I woke up in a hospital room I was informed that I had a stroke. And that my memory had regressed."
