Navigating Emotions
Cerys,
I understand your frustrations.
However, ignoring an issue in the hope that it will be forgotten can be damaging to your relationships with your peers. Learning to navigate the throes of difficult dialogue and understanding the emotions within ourselves and others is a vital skill that Jedi use every day.
It's not particularly comfortable for me either to be in this position, but I figure that perhaps it's best you endure such learning with me, rather than struggle elsewhere when empathy and diplomacy are duly required.
Your skills as a Jedi are very impressive, and by most rites, I don't look at you as a Padawan Learner. It seems wrong in the sense of our age, and our being in the same league as most areas. You've even become better with the saber since we last shared a sparring session. Yet as you know, there is more to being a Jedi than using the Force, and fighting for the sake of others. Diplomatic relations, understanding the people we serve and seeking to bring some assistance to their lives.
Let me ask you this: "Why do you so willingly risk your life for other people?"
I don't want the cliché answers, the scripted nonsense you're taught in class. Why does it matter to you? Do you do it because it's what you've been trained to do, or do you do it because you care for others? If so, compassion is the emotion that comes to mind. One that some might have once, long ago, suggested to be dangerous for the Jedi, but emotion can also fuel our commitments- passion that drives us into certain-death situations for the sake of those at risk.
I want you to think on this: Emotion is not the danger; it is a lack of self-awareness and discipline that can cloud our judgement. Jedi or not, we remain sentient, and thus we still feel. We simply learn how to prioritise and place others before ourselves when required.
