FACTION WAR

Faction War allows Major Factions to claim territory on the map and challenge other Major Factions.

Flashpoints

FLASHPOINT RULES
  • Flashpoints may take place quarterly per real calendar year, and intend to raise the tension of the Map game for the period of one real calendar month.
  • 'Themes' may be announced and applied to Flashpoints that alter this ruleset. Please see that month's Flashpoint announcement for more detail.
FLASHPOINT DURATION
  • A Flashpoint event begins on the first of the month that is announced by the SWRP: Chaos Staff Team at 12:00 AM EST and lasts for the entirety of that month.
FLASHPOINT EFFECTS

Flashpoint effects may modify other rulesets.
  • Mandate strengths/weaknesses do not apply during Flashpoint Events.

FLASHPOINT EXAMPLES

The following examples are posted to give you an idea of what you might expect in a Flashpoint.
  • Dominion Effort Victory Conditions now equate to 30 posts, instead of the usual 50.
  • Major Factions may complete up to six Dominions during the month of the Flashpoint.
  • New map mechanics, like increased Invasions or even new ideas such as Campaigns.
  • New forum mechanics may be introduced temporarily for that month.
Etc, etc.

FLASHPOINT END
  • A Flashpoint Event ends at 12:00 AM EST on the first day of the following month.
  • All incomplete Dominions must follow standard Dominion Rules.

Dominions

DOMINIONS

Dominions allow Major Factions to claim entire hexes without direct competition from other factions.
  • At any point, a Major Faction may acquire an adjacent SWRP Chaos Map hex by completing a Dominion thread, posting to the Map Update thread, and receiving Staff approval.
  • A Dominion counts as a Player Vs Environment (PvE) thread.
  • A Dominion thread’s title must include the name or acronym of the Major Faction, and the name of a planet visible in the hex.
  • A Dominion may only be started on a hex adjacent to the Major Faction’s influence cloud.
  • A hex lost as the result of an Invasion may not have a Dominion thread started on it by the defeated faction for 30 days after the announcement of the Invasion result.
  • Dominions submitted to the Map Update thread considered to be low effort will induce penalties by the SWRP Staff Team on the submitting Major Faction.
INVOLVING OTHER FACTIONS
  • Other Major or Minor Factions may not interfere with a Dominion thread. They may participate as In-Character aid or opposition with the approval of the Faction Admins/Owner of the Major Faction undertaking the Dominion

VICTORY CONDITIONS

Once a Major Faction has posted a completed Dominion thread to the Map Update thread, an Admin will assign a Moderator to judge whether the thread meets the following criteria. The Moderator will sign the ‘Approval’ field in the Map Update template, or will contact the submitter if further work is needed.

  • STORY - Does the Dominion thread have a story (or group of stories) that makes sense and that comes to a reasonable conclusion?
  • REPRESENTATION - How well is the Faction represented in the Dominion thread? For example, if two members post the bulk of the thread back-to-back, the Dominion is unlikely to be approved without more work from other Faction members.
  • EFFORT - How much effort has the Faction put into the thread?

Junction

JUNCTIONS

Junction threads allow two or more Major Factions participating to gain a hex.

  • At any point, two or more Major Factions may acquire an adjacent SWRP Chaos Map hex each by completing a Junction thread, posting to the Map Update thread, and receiving Staff approval. These factions need not be adjacent on the map to create a Junction.
  • A Junction counts as a Player Vs Environment (PvE) thread.
  • A Junction thread’s title must include the name(s) or acronym(s) of the Major Factions involved as well as the hexes chosen.
  • Hexes chosen to be gained by completed Junction threads must be adjacent to the respective Major Faction(s)' influence cloud.
  • A hex lost as the result of an Invasion may not be gained by a Junction thread for 30 days after the announcement of the Invasion result.

VICTORY CONDITIONS

Once a Major Faction has posted a completed Junction thread to the Map Update thread, an Admin will assign an RPJ to judge whether the thread meets the following criteria. The RPJ will sign the ‘Approval’ field in the Map Update template, or will contact the submitter if further work is needed.

  • STORY - Does the Junction thread have a story (or group of stories) that makes sense and that comes to a reasonable conclusion?
  • REPRESENTATION - How well is the Faction represented in the Junction thread? Factions may be denied hexes for poor performance.
  • EFFORT - How much effort has the Faction put into the thread? As a general guideline, 30 average posts per faction is an acceptable effort. A lower number of posts may be acceptable if clear effort has resulted in solid stories that reach a natural conclusion. Spammed posts with minimal effort will count against the Faction.

Each faction must post their own application in the Map Update thread upon conclusion of their monthly Junction thread, ie one Junction thread can have two or more posts in the Map Update thread.

Populate

POPULATE

Populate threads are cultural expansion threads that represent the indirect growth of a Major Faction and allow Major Factions to claim entire hexes by highlighting or providing additional content to momentous occasions.

  • At any point, a Major Faction may acquire an adjacent SWRP Chaos Map hex by completing a Populate thread, posting to the Map Update thread, and receiving Staff approval.
  • Populate threads are classified as Player Vs Environment (PvE) threads.
  • A Populate thread’s title must include the name or acronym of the Major Faction, and the name of a planet visible in the hex.
  • A Populate thread must include links to a minimum of two or more referenced non-Invasion, non-Rebellion threads in the first post of the thread.
  • A Populate thread may only be started on a hex adjacent to the Major Faction’s influence cloud.
  • A hex lost as the result of an Invasion may not have a Populate thread started on it by the defeated faction for 30 days after the announcement of the Invasion result.

VICTORY CONDITIONS

Once a Major Faction has posted a completed Populate thread to the Map Update thread, an Admin will assign an RPJ to judge whether the thread meets the following criteria. The RPJ will sign the ‘Approval’ field in the Map Update template, or will contact the submitter if further work is needed.

  • STORY - Does the Populate thread have a story (or group of stories), highlight another thread's story, or provide additional content that makes sense and that comes to a reasonable conclusion?
  • REPRESENTATION - How well is the Faction represented in the Populate thread? For example, if two members post the bulk of the thread back-to-back, the Populate thread is unlikely to be approved without more work from other Faction members.
  • EFFORT - How much effort has the Faction put into the thread? As a general guideline, 30 minimum posts is an acceptable effort. A lower number of posts may be acceptable if clear effort has resulted in solid stories that reach a natural conclusion. Spammed posts with minimal effort will count against the Faction.

Invasion

INVASION

At any point, a Major Faction may “invade” another Major Faction's occupied hex. This involves one Major Faction's members fighting for control of the hex(es) against another Major Faction's members. New Major Factions may not be invaded for the first 30 days after their application is approved unless they initiate an Invasion first.

  • Label your faction's name, the hex, and the opposing faction in the topic title.
  • A Major Faction may only start one Invasion at a time.
  • A Major Faction must give one week's notice of their intention to Invade a hex in a Declaration thread in the Roleplay Discussion forum. When this thread is created please tag an Admin so they are aware of the Invasion.
  • Hexes invaded further than two hexes away from a Major Faction's border will not increase a Major Faction's Influence Cloud.
  • Starting on the day of the Invasion Declaration OOC thread, Major Factions may not claim nor Dominion a hex bordering any hexes of an Invasion until a Victory Declaration is provided and the Invasion has been added to the Map Update Request thread. This period of time may not be longer than one week prior to the Invasion roleplay.
  • Hexes gained in this manner will be given in accordance to the shortest path available, but Major Factions may annotate a hex from which the Invasion starts it's path.
  • Hexes rewarded in this manner must be empty or belonging to the target hex's Major Faction Influence Cloud.

Stampeding is prohibited. Stampeding is when several members of a Major Faction post repetitively without waiting for a response from the opposition.
Stalling is prohibited. Stalling is where a defending faction deliberately seeks to under perform.
There is a moratorium on Invasion and Annihilation threads between the 1st of December and the 8th of January. Invasions and Annihilations must be submitted for judging prior to December 1st, and may not begin before the 8th of January.

REQUESTING AID

1. All Major Factions in an Invasion thread may request assistance from Factions not involved in the thread.

2. Allies must be accepted by the Major Faction they are assisting.

VICTORY DECLARATION

1. The thread must have a minimum total of 100 posts between both factions.

2. Both factions must have a minimum of 5 faction members per side. If either faction cannot meet this requirement within 72 hours of the beginning of the invasion, that faction forfeits.

3. Invasions typically run for two weeks.

4. At any time, Faction Owners may request an Administrator to review an Invasion for the purpose of forcing an early concession due to inactivity from any offending or defending Factions. If the claim is found valid, the Administrator may initiate an early Judgement deliberation.

5.
At no point during the Invasion may a Faction Owner be requested to submit or voluntarily submit a summary of the Invasion for the purposes of the SWRP Administrator Team's review.

Once an Invasion nears it's completion, contact an Administrator. If either faction does not concede, site Administrators will decide the victor.

VICTORY JUDGEMENT

Once an Invasion has reached its conclusion, the thread will be judged by a panel of Site Administrators.

This is a review and judgement on the entire thread, including the faction stories, individual plots and cooperation between groups. An emphasis in this judgement is on teamwork, good writing and collaboration. The results of individual battles and duels are less important than the means used to get there.

Once this judgement has been decided it will be announced by one of the Administrators.

Annihilation

ANNIHILATION

A Major Faction may “annihilate” a planet or location represented on the SWRP Chaos Galactic Map. This involves one Major Faction's members fighting to destroy a planet or map location. New Major Factions may not launch Annihilation threads for the first 30 days after their application is approved, nor may a planet or hex that Major Faction controls be the target of an Annihilation during this time.

  • Label your faction's name, the hex or planet, and the opposing faction (if there is one) in the topic title.
  • A Major Faction may only start one Annihilation every 4 calendar months.
  • A Major Faction must give 7 days notice of their intention to Annihilate a planet.
  • Superweapons may be used without Admin approval in this thread. Superweapons used in successful Annihilation threads do not need to be destroyed and may be used in subsequent Annihilation threads.
  • Custom planets require the permission of the custom planet's creator to be targets of Annihilation threads.
  • Stampeding is not allowed.

Stampeding is when several members of a Major Faction post repetitively without waiting for a proper response from the opposition.
Stalling is also prohibited. Stalling is where any opposition deliberately seeks to under perform in order to shift the lion share of the work on the Annihilator. Annihilations can be intense, but they are also ultimately a collaborative experience. Treat them as such.
There is a moratorium on Invasion and Annihilation threads between the 1st of December and the 8th of January. Invasions and Annihilations must be submitted for judging prior to December 1st, and may not begin before the 8th of January.

REQUESTING AID

1. Any number of factions and/or people may join this thread.

VICTORY DECLARATION

1. The thread must have a minimum total of 400 posts between all factions.

2. The attacking faction must have a minimum of 10 faction members supporting their side. If this faction cannot meet this requirement within 72 hours of the beginning of the Annihilation, that faction forfeits and the Annihilation is void.

3. The attacking faction may determine the length of the thread if there is no defending faction; otherwise, all parties must agree.

4. At any time, Faction Owners may request an Administrator to review an Annihilation for the purpose of forcing an early concession due to inactivity from any offending or defending Factions so long as all other Victory Conditions are met. If the claim is found valid, the Administrator may initiate an early Judgement deliberation with the presiding Roleplay Judges. If this method of Victory Declaration is found unsubstantiated, it may be provided to the presiding Roleplay Judges’ for consideration in their Judgement upon the natural conclusion of the Annihilation.

Once an Annihilation nears its completion, contact any Administrator(s) and they will inform the Role-play Judges. If neither faction concedes, the Roleplay Judges will decide the victor.

ANNIHILATION VICTORY

1. The victorious Major Faction may choose a single planet or location to destroy, and that planet or location will be removed from the SWRP Galactic Map.

2. Influence Cloud in the targeted hex is removed.

VICTORY CONDITIONS

The following will not be considered when judging an Annihilation.

  • Person vs Person Duels. The amount of duels won or lost in an Annihilation does not contribute to either faction’s victory.
  • Objectives. The amount of objectives won or lost in an Annihilation does not contribute to either faction’s victory.
  • Non-Player Characters. The actions of NPCs involved from either side in an Annihilation does not contribute to either faction’s victory.
The following will be considered when judging an Annihilation:
  • Participation. An Annihilation is a story of conflict between multiple factions, and the participation of all factions will contribute to their chances for victory. This is does not include the total contribution of posts from one faction as compared to another, nor the total amount of individual writers from one faction as compared to another. This does include, but is not limited to, the level of consistent activity of both factions throughout the course of the thread, the interaction between members of both factions with the opposition from the start of the Annihilation to the end, the steady responses between writing partners made in a reasonable frame of time, and the amount of cooperation and teamwork between members of each faction to achieve their goals.

  • Tension. Throughout Annihilations there will always be conflicts, large or small. This can be something as small as a Padawan and an Acolyte dueling and how their conflict plays out, or as large as the interaction of two massive fleets in orbit. These moments, as well as how members of both parties respond to and shape them, can contribute to a faction's chances for victory. This is not determined by the literal outcome of these moments. They will be decided by how unique these moments are, how fair and appropriate the moments that lead up to these interactions are, as well as how each individual and group handles these moments and either recovers or takes advantage of them in a fair and appropriate manner.

  • Story. At the heart of an Annihilation lies the stories woven by writers from the first post until its last, whether it is through a violent conflict, a peaceful diplomatic resolution, or anything that lies between. Actions made by individuals, groups, and the factions as a whole make up the fabric of this story and will contribute to each faction's chances for victory. This will not be determined by a summation of duels, objective wins, and general tallying of scores. This will be determined by subjects such as, but is not limited to, whether the actions of individuals and groups make sense in their given context, the expansion of a given location's lore and history, the general flow of the overarching story as it unfolds and is influenced by the actions of each faction, how engaging each individual and group's storyline is, and the impact felt by the gains and the losses of both factions - as well as the fair and balanced actions made by individuals of each faction.

  • Drama. While the focus of an Annihilation will always be the actions of each character and faction in-character, the interaction and the general behavior of writers of each faction out-of-character also create an impact on the flow of an Annihilation. The goal for every Annihilation is for members of both parties to have fun and enjoy their experience, and to create a fun and interesting story comprised of the actions of each character as individuals and participating factions as a whole; however, this can be derailed by behavior that is not conducive for such an ideal environment. It is our goal for this to always end as a tie, with both parties never showing examples of inappropriate and negative behavior, but any negative behavior instigated by either side, visibly, can negatively impact that faction's chances for victory in an Annihilation.
