Approved Species Zorren

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Personal reason: I wanted Vulpesen to be something other than a human and I always enjoyed the idea of changing through some sort of trial(through a series of threads he’ll hopefully go through the change).
  • Not so personal reason: Star wars has Cathar, Felecatians, and togorians. I’d like to see a canine species that doesn’t look like it crawled out from someone’s hind end, or requires the blood of another force user to survive.

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Zorren
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Origins: Veadune
  • Average Lifespan: 5,000
  • Estimated Population: Inter-Planetary
  • Description: Evolved as galactic guard dogs, the pointy eared Zorrens may appear indistinguishable from humans before their trials, but their instinct to protect has driven them to fight against evil within the galaxy throughout their history. Those that have been trialed may be noticed through their glowing eyes, clawed fingers, and tails(given enough blood purity), as well as a few other racial markers.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type 1
  • Average Height of Adults: 1.7 Meters
  • Average Length of Adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Human Range of Skin Colors
  • Hair color: Human Range (their tails may consist of a canine range of colors)
  • Distinctions: At some time in their lives, Zorrens are sent through a conditioning period known as the trial. A month-long journey through any harsh environment will eventually start to change their body as it naturally adapts. The stress brought on by such conditions releases hormones and chemicals which speeds certain bodily functions and changes others. These changes include their nails growing into hard talons that while extended beyond the human hand are not clumsily so, ears growing a small point, hardening of their new talons to be able to cut through materials such as hard woods, canine fangs, joints on their ears to move them independently, slight changes in bone structure to allow for running on all limbs in a comfortable manner (though they remain mostly bipedal), changes in vocal cords that cause their words to come out as more of a growl, making their natural language of Veran easier to speak, and enhanced senses. After the Trial, a Zorren’s life span also changes, causing them to age at a fraction of the rate of a normal human being while their metabolism speeds up to sustain this. A full-fledged Zorren might eat twice as much as a normal human on an active day. One of the largest marks of a Zorren can also be found in their bright golden eyes.[/SIZE]
  • High Zorrens: Much like the normal Zorrens, their body structure is the same as a human up until their trial. However, the pureblood of a high Zorren causes a special difference in that they receive a canine tail once they complete their transformation. While this can be a status symbol to different groups, it is often ignored and simply seen for what it is… a tail. For a Zorren to receive a tail after trials, they must be at least ¾ Zorren.
  • Races:Zorren, High Zorren
  • Force Sensitivity: High
Strengths:
  • Dexterous and agile
  • Increased Strength (Due to an increase in muscle density, the Zorrens can lift about one extra pound for every three.)
  • Full-fledged Zorrens are adapted to living in the wild.
  • Sensitive Hearing and Smell
  • Natural Weaponry with canine fangs and sharp claws
Weaknesses:
  • High Metabolism may require that they eat more to avoid starvation
  • Sensitive Hearing and smell can be overwhelmed by noxious fumes or loud noises
  • The instinct to protect others gets Zorrens into enough trouble that they rarely make it the full 5,000 years.
  • Species wide Trauma (until recently, Zorrens were nearly extinct in the galaxy. While they have recovered, it is not something the race will forget any time soon.)
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivore | Certain foods such as chocolate can prove to be mildly toxic to Zorren, giving them stomach aches and food poisoning.
  • Communication: Vocal. Generally they use words, though at long distances they will howl to each other.
  • Technology level: Standard
  • Religion/Beliefs: The Zorrens hold two separate but heavily mingled religions, one regarding the force, and another separate from it.
    • Zorrens capable of using the force (called Wilders) believe in the Spirit of the Wilds, a natural entity that seeks balance between the elements and harmony between beings and nature.
    • Beyond the force, Zorrens also believe in a trio of Gods named Varos, Wulren, and Rerreno. While this religion is seen as a folk tale in more modern areas of the planet, the rural areas are not short on true believers in the brothers three.
    • The three gods: While different regions of Veradune might extend the pantheon to include different gods and goddesses, the bulk of the Veran belief system and virtually all religious groups center around the three main gods, Varos, Wulren, and Rerreno. Each of these three embody some part of the Veran belief system and have their own legends associated with them.
    • Varos: Often the most prominent of the Veran gods, Varos is said to have joined with the spirit of shadows and through their union, the Zorren people were born. As the Zorren people see Varos as their godly father, they paid homage to him by Naming the planet after him. This was however disputed by Wulren who was beaten in a competition by the Fox, thereby solidifying the name of the Zorren home world. Varos is seen as a God of Freedom due to his lack of belief in following conventions. He is also seen as the god of trickery, shadows, and the common man as well as travelers, thieves, and scouts. He is often called ‘The Silent Protector.’
    • Wulren: Often seen as the opposing force to Varos and his main competition for power among the gods, Wulren the Wolf stands for strength, unity, honor. He is a soldier’s god and is often prayed to before large battles or fights. While he does have an animosity towards Varos, he is still said to show respect to the fox, acknowledging that power can be found in the fox’s unconventional ways. This respect is also fostered from the Wolf’s belief in Unity.
    • Rerreno: The mediator between Wulren and Varos, Rerreno is the coyote god of Diplomats. While Varos’ trickery happens behind the scenes, Rereno instead prefers to conduct negotiations face to face. His relation between the other two gods is seen as generally the best as Varos enjoys his reluctance to enter straight combat while Wulren enjoys the idea of meeting one’s foe face to face, even if blows are not exchanged.
  • A militaristic society, Zorrens are quick to sign up for wars in the outside galaxy. Praising the virtues of Life, Freedom, and Unity, Zorrens are often found in militaries that combat tyranny and oppression within the Galaxy. This has led to their population being kept in check as their long life span is offset by frequency of their professions leading to death by non-natural causes.
  • Eating: Almost all Zorren owned food establishments from Cafes to Taverns feature a banquet style interior with long tables spanning the majority of the establishment’s length. Rather than sitting in their own private groups, Zorrens will usually seek out others to share their meal with. Those who are feeling gregarious or talkative usually sit in the center of large tables while more reserved guests sit closer to the ends. Eateries on Veradune, especially in their center most places are often rowdy and sometimes violent with a common saying being that no Veran Tavern is complete without a medical station. While there are a few places to eat with a single partner with separate tables, these places are rare and seen as incredibly intimate. In the outside galaxy Zorrens often find it difficult to not show up at a random table of guests in diners and restaurants, often needing to remind themselves that for most species, eating is a semi-private affair.
  • Fighting styles: As with many groups who developed as warriors on their own planet, the Zorrens have developed a set of fighting styles and martial arts, each one developed in response to some ideology or realization. Each of these main styles were named after the three main gods. These Gods are found in the prefix of the form’s name. The form’s suffix comes in either the form of tryx or syn. These suffixes denote the form’s lethality with tryx(meaning claw) being the non-lethal form while syn(meaning tooth) is the more lethal form.
    • Varotryx and Varosyn: Named after the Fox god Varos, these styles revolve around trickery and attacking an opponent’s weak points. In this form, Zorrens often use their claws and fangs in combat to do the most damage possible without any major use of power. Strikes are made with claws pointed at weak points such as the neck, eyes, stomach, or joints. This form may also require some skill in acrobatics and flexibility as practitioners are often required to dance around their opponent until they can place their opponent in a wrist lock to disable them.
    • Wulretryx and Wulresyn: Named after the wolf god Wulren, these forms rise from the power of a zorren’s body and rely on powerful strikes, either with a closed fist in the form of wulretryx, or with extended claws in the form of wulresyn. Practitioners are often not afraid to move in close to the opponent and wrestle them to the ground where various locks and throws are used to subdue the foe. Alternatively, and particularly in the syn form, practitioners have been known to bludgeon their enemies with heavy blows.
    • Rerrotryx and Rerrosyn: Named after the coyote god Rerreno, these forms are seen as the least dangerous due to their lack of impact tactics. A form of wrestling, the Rerro forms use grabbling and body control to subdue opponents. In its lethal form, there is little change, though practitioners do add tactics to snap the neck or choke off blood to quickly neutralize enemies. This form often utilizes the extra joint in a Zorrens hips as it grants more flexibility for wrestling on the ground.
  • Clothing: A large part of the Zorren culture is the belief that one should always be ready for combat. While the zorren people often rely on their fangs and claws, they realize that not all inhabitants of their planet can utilize such natural weaponry. This has caused an adaptation in Veran item creation in which almost all forms of Jewelry or decoration are in some way capable of being weaponized, whether it be a spiked hairpin or a ring with a hidden blade. These hidden weapons are often incorporated into sub-forms of the main Zorren Martial art forms. Clothing in Veran society is often made with practicality in mind, often being loose fitting to enable freedom of movement.
  • Force Traditions: Being that Veradune is a place of wild nature and deadly wildlife, the force users of Veradune often use the title of Wilder, their powers stemming from the wild and savage nature of the living force. Most force abilities used on Veradune are based in nature, bending animals and plants to their will. There are also legends of those strong enough in the force, changing their bodies in ways inspired by the animals that they’ve seen. Strong in the ways of altering the environment, and sensing the life around them, Veran wilders are rarely trained in ways of altering the mind, though it is not unheard of.
  • General behavior: Despite a more human form, the behavior of the Zorrens as said earlier, comes from a seemingly canine root. Seeing themselves as the guard dogs of the galaxy, Zorrens will also leap to the defense of anyone they see as being wronged. With a strict moral compass revolving around Life, freedom, and Unity, the Zorrens find it instinctual to move to another being’s aid, even at their own expense. As for their mannerisms around others, the Canine side of the Zorrens generally shows itself when they get excited. Showing a fiery temper when roused, the Zorrens often possess a sharp tongue in arguments When the excitement is of a more merry nature, their words tend to come out with a yippish tone and the High Zorrens will even wag their tails at signs of joy. When calm, the Zorrens are capable of blending in with general society.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
150,000 BBY: The Zorren tribes are first assembled and eventually start to claim their territories.

130,000 BBY: The Zorren Tribes unite, forming a planetary identity rather than regional.

20,000 BBY: Zorrens start to branch out into the galaxy, becoming active in protecting others as guardians and mercenaries.

10,000 BBY: The Veran people have their first encounter with the GenoHaradan, beginning a long feud between philosophies of protection versus assassination as a way to change the galaxy.

2,000 BBY: Republic Jedi find Veradune and the planet joins the Republic with both sides sending force users to learn about the different philosophies.

1,500 BBY: The feud with the GenoHaradan grows stronger and leads to the beginning of the silent wars, a time in which the Verans, now acting through an organization known as the Tenevi Order, and the GenoHaradan fight relentlessly for control over areas of the galaxy. Despite the raging conflict, both sides keep the understanding that their conflict can not spill into the larger factions of the galaxy. The resulting innovations from the Tenevi war effort place Veradune into a golden age which lasts well over a thousand years.

1,000 BBY: The Tenevi have pushed the GenoHaradan out of their area of the galaxy, creating the first influence clouds in the conflict

990 BBY: Both sides decide to stop their fighting, deciding on defined borders.

19 BBY-5 ABY: The Jedi purge begins and after finding information on the group Tenevi Order, the Empire attacks the Veradune government, believing its force sect to be too similar to that of the jedi. Unable to withstand the might of the empire, the Tenevi Order sends out multiple missions to destroy any trace of Veradune in the empire’s system, effectively disappearing from the galactic stage without a trace.

5-136 ABY: The Residents of Veradune continue to trust the judgment of the Tenevi Order, continuing to fight from the shadows as they rebuild their planet.

400 ABY: The Tenevi Order, now a defacto body of government for Veradune, attempts to help rebuild the Galaxy as well as it can

425 ABY: Citizens of Veradune attempt to develop a cure to the Gulagh plague but are killed when they try to administer it to the galaxy. The Zorrens are particularly susceptible to the plague and their numbers drop drastically.

Four hundred years of darkness: Zorrens due to their weakness to the plague, enter a period of weakness in which many of the Tenevi’s domestic enemies rise to power. In one well-timed and well-planned coup the Tenevi leaders are deposed, killed, exiled, or run-off with death warrants.

450 ABY The Zorrens lose their planet in a civil War started by the immigrated species of their planet which have been led by a skilled group of terrorists. After a well planned coup, the Tenevi Order is destroyed and within days, the Zorrens go from the norm of their planet to outcasts who are run out of their home.

837 ABY: Vulpesen Torrevaso and Alexandra Lianne Feanor, having followed a vision and what scraps of information there were to find, set off to rediscover Veradune.. After a fight to end the Bandit Coalition, the plane began to rebuild from its revolution.

838 ABY: Still decimated by the plague and the bandit coalition, the Veran Government now headed by Vulpesen Torrevaso seeks to rebuild its numbers. Avenues of revival include cloning and search operations to find any zorrens hidden in the galaxy.

843 ABY: The Miracle Initiative is enacted by Vulpesen and his allies. Using a host of powerful force artifacts borrowed from Jedi Master Matsu Ike Matsu Ike , and a concerted effort from members of the Dark Hand, Vulpesen used his personal connection to the netherworld to enter in and bring back the Zorrens lost to the purge.

845 ABY-Present: The Zorren Population has grown tremendously after Vulpesen’s efforts in the “Miracle initiative”, returning the race to prominence within the Galaxy. Due to the nature of the population boom, old knowledge is quickly recovered, bringing the Veradune back up to Galactic Standard Technology. While the Tenevi Order was once the leading government on Veradune, Vulpesen created a new governmental system, taking the name and resources of the fallen faction, the Vitae Alliance.

I really like this. Just a few clarifications and you're good to go. :)

This isin't to much of a big deal, but it's worth mentioning. Just how strong? Are we talking bodybuilder strong? Wookiee strong? Gorax strong?

Five thousand year lifespan... hmm. Alright...

You say high zorrens are of 'pureblood nature'. Does that mean that zorrens breed with humans or other species? So they can sucesfully breed with humans? I think that may be worth mentioning.

I'd like a little more on history, if you would.

Just those minor things, and you're good to go as far as I'm concerned. :)

Ok then. Sub updated. A few clarifications and clean ups on the biology, but nothing really changed. Added to the culture and history. And I fixed the sub's broken formatting.

Srina Talon Srina Talon All done here. Thanks for opening it back up for me!
